The Dan Rather journalism seal of approval
Dan Rather endorses the NYTimes–because he knows “responsible,” “outstanding” journalists when he seems ‘em. Trust him.

DannyBoy knows whereof he speaks.
- about as far as I can throw the Golden Gate Bridge.
Gunga Dan wanted to be the most trusted man in America, following in the hallowed footsteps of Uncle Walter(who was not to be trusted in his own right), sort of like the Pied Piper.
He was a good umpire, who “calls ‘em like he sees ‘em.” Problem is, he could never see ‘em.
Now he’s on the same high lofty plain as Ted “Windbag” Kennedy and John F’n Kerry.
Trust him! *snort*
“Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your
life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they
will steal your HONOR. That awful power, the public opinion
of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant,
self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and
shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the
poorhouse.” –Mark Twain.
It’s a sad day when you’ve got Dan Rather coming off your bench. Stephen Glass and Franklin Foer should be ringing in here any minute with their take on ethics and ‘journalism’.
When will he just go away?
Mark Twain
He was not off by much was he now!
“Try not to help us Dan.” NYTimes
Of all the people to come out and endorse thes idiots, he’s the last one I would have figured.
What does he mean “they’ll be in heap of trouble if the story is not true”. What story – McCain met with a lobbyist. The NYT story didn’t have any other facts – some other innuendo, but no facts. Rather just suffers from Republican Derangement Syndrome.
“Birds of a feather flock together.”
One of the few truths in life that have stood the test of time, in my opnion.
Danny boy should know. Interesting though that Rather would hold the NYT accountable since he’s still pretty sure his faux journalistic performance was unfairly punished.
Must be, accountable for thee but not for me.
Poor, deluded man. He’s a shining example of what can happen when a personal agenda gets the upper hand.
Further proof that Dan Rathers days as a serious journalist have long since passed.
Yep, I think Dan is right “on the record, it deserves to be said these are very responsible journalists.” and we all know Dan created the record. I think he is an in credible idot.
Dan Rather, attempting to indonctrinate the American mind for 58 years.
Courage.
In a nutshell:
Dan Rather -> New York Times
as
Iceberg -> Titanic
Concerning the NYT, how about…
“The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers”
-Thomas Jefferson
and
“People everywhere confuse what they read in newspapers with news. ”
-A. J. Liebling
Concerning Dan Rather, how about….
“In the case of news, we should always wait for the sacrament of confirmation”
-Voltaire
and
“The one function that TV news performs very well is that when there is no news we give it to you with the same emphasis as if there were.”
-David Brinkley
The Dan Rather Seal of Approval. Well that’s it, folks. The story is as solid as they come.
/sarcasm off
Just who does Dan Rather think he is? What moron would take him seriously, after the fabrications that he pushed? Geez!
Move along, now. Nothing to see here but liberals covering for liberals.
Certainly, if Rather’s conduct is to be the baseline for setting a standard of journalistic integrity, then what the NYT did was not so bad. They did not use fabricated evidence, ignore expert opinions that the materials they were relying upon were poor forgeries, nor eventually admit the fabrication of the base materials and continue to claim that the entire incident was true.
Dan Rather is the epitome of an individual employing the psychological defense mechanisms of rationalization and self delusion. Defense mechanisms, by the way, we frequently see used by those accused of murder and other serious felonies.
Foer and TNR were behind the push to go ahead and get the NYT to run the piece on McCain. I’m pretty sure he thinks it is a solid piece of “journalism”, as solid as they come from TNR anyhow.
We haven’t seen all the fallout yet, Jim. There may be much more light to be shed on what these “journalists” did or did not know.
One word comes to mind: Arrogance
And many times it doesn’t, as in the “Obamaesque” free ride the Clintons received from the MSM building up to the 1992 Presidential Election.
The only thing more embarrassing than round-table journalists inventing past events are round-table journalists pretending that some past events never happened.
The New York Times: Fake, But Accurate.
Dan Rather endorsing the veracity of the NYTimes is a little like Hitler endorsing your invasion of Poland.
I didn’t know that Dan Rather was still around. I guess all you have to do these days is just mention “Republican” and “scandal” and he’ll come a-runnin’!
I literally just laughed out loud.
Hammer meet nail.
Any newspaper that agrees with your political agenda is a responsible and responsible paper with great journalists. Trouble is, NYT has no reporters/journalists. They’re all commentators and who write news editorials masked as journalism.
Dan Rather is the same “journalist” who attended a Democratic Party fundraiser in Texas while he was CBS anchor. Rather is the same “journalist” who went on the air breathless and delirious when the Florida Supreme Court overturned Judge Sauls and virtually ordered the election of Al Gore. But after showing his happiness at what the Florida Supreme Court had done, Rather asked rhetorically: “What will the Republican US Supreme Court do?”. Rather was sliming the members of the US Supreme Court who were nominated by Republican presidents. In the Rather gospel, no judge appointed by a Republican president is anything other than a hack who will do the bidding of Republican presidential candidates. Of course, Rather never used the expression “The Democrat Florida Supreme Court” although all of the members of that court were Democrat appointees (Jeb Bush even allowed a Chiles nominee to sale through on Jeb’s watch) and Rather did not mention that many of the Florida Supreme Court justices had been active in Florida Democratic Party politics. I am always one step ahead of Rather. He thinks his past is forgotten but it is not.
Today Maxim Magazine apologized (at least half-heartedly) for reviewing the Black Crowes’ new album without listening to it in its entirety. I’d rate Maxim as having more integrity than Rather (and by reference, the NYT).
Just when I thought the NYT’s reputation could sink any lower, Dan helps them.
What are friends for?
Wasn’t Rather the person who also said he was a fair and impartial journalist?
Wonder what he puts in his cocktails?
What’s the frequency Kenneth?
