Boehner to GOP lawmakers: Get off your “dead asses”
Politico reports on the mess that is the House GOP:
House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) challenged Republicans on Tuesday to get off their “dead asses” and start raising money for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
And the Republican leader wasn’t the only lawmaker berating his GOP colleagues to raise more money for the committee’s March 12 fundraising dinner: According to sources in the room, NRCC Chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) also used a closed-door session at the Capitol Hill Club on Tuesday to challenge Republicans to raise more campaign cash.
The normally upbeat Cole told Republicans that if they don’t start raising more money for the committee, they should get used to life in the minority. Blunt told his colleagues that Sen. John McCain’s spot atop the ballot should give Republicans the opening they need to regain their majority.
Except for the fact that the McCain shamnesty is one of the reasons many Republicans stopped giving money to the party and started telling them to bug off.
And corruption crap like this isn’t helping:
The NRCC was starting to turn things around at the end of 2007, closing the year with more cash than debt for the first time since the crippling 2006 election. But 2008 began with a fresh crop of retirements and revelations that a former NRCC bookkeeper allegedly forged an internal audit sent to the committee’s principal lender.
Then last Friday, federal prosecutors indicted Arizona Rep. Rick Renzi on 35 criminal counts that include conspiracy, fraud, money laundering and official extortion stemming from a land swap with a former business partner. Shortly afterward, Boehner called on the Arizona Republican, who had already announced his plans not to seek reelection, to “seriously consider” stepping down early. But Renzi has since issued a statement that he has no plans to resign, putting increased pressure on GOP leaders to force his ouster.
The NRCC outraised the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee by a very narrow margin in January, outpacing its Democratic counterpart for the first time since the Republicans lost power. But the DCCC maintains a sizable fundraising advantage, closing the month with nearly $35.5 million, compared with the NRCC’s $6.4 million.
Word of advice: Blaming commentators isn’t going to inspire folks to open up their pocketbooks, either:
In an effort to keep members more engaged, Blunt challenged lawmakers to take more responsibility for regaining power, then took a shot at the punditry for writing off Republicans this election cycle.

Boehner and crew apparently are conveniently forgetting, to their detriment, the many faxes, emails, letters and calls that came in over the immigration fiasco that said…NO MONEY FOR YOU. I know I still mean it.
I agree with much of his statement. The Republicans do need to get off of their butts and do some work. But, John McShame will turn me off more. They need to get off of their butts and return to their Reagan Conservative roots. When the Democrats srew up, the Republicans should be quick to point it out, instead of joining with the Dems in condemning the people who DO point it out. They need to get off of their butts and go on the offensive, instead of always just reacting to what the Democrats do. They need to get off of their butts and, when they are in the majority, acting like winners. I have to give the Dems credit here. They know how to act like winners. They know how to tell the Repubs to sit down and shut up, because they’re in charge now. The Republicans don’t seem to do that. They just want to get along with the people who don’t like them anyway, and will stab them in the back when given the opportunity.
If the Republicans want more money, how about a Thompson-Hunter ticket? I’d give them money. McCain? No way.
The Republicans have a clear chance to win against two completely unelectable socialists and what do the Republicans do? They pick a socialist to run against them. Great.
Someone stick a fork in me. I am so done.
If the Congressional Republicans really want to do something, they should consider a contract with America that talks to the real needs of the country. Further, they ought to take Mr. McCain to the woodshed and let him know in no uncertain terms that his maverick behavior is hurting not only himself but the party. The RINO approach has done nothing but dissipate the great electoral victories of Reagan and Gingrich, and allowed the socialist workers party, aka, the Democrats to regain the momentum. When the Republicans praise hard work, smaller government, tax cuts and the successes that those things bring, they win. When the Republicans try to be more like Democrats, they lose.
Ignorance is a problem that can be fixed, but stupidity is forever.
DUH statement of the day!
…and forcing McCain on us… bug off!
…and ignoring your base…bug off!
…and putting up with Dem stall tactics…bug off!
Feel free to add.
House Republicans:
1. Failed to adopt Boehner’s pledge to forgo earmarks for one year.
2. Failed to put Jeff Flake (R-AZ, who never met an earmark he liked) on the appropriations committee.
And they still expect us to send them money? People this dumb shouldn’t be serving in Congress.
The Republican Party has only itself to blame for the current state that it’s in. If it had kept its promises to the base we would never have been in this situation. When they started letting money corrupt them (the few who did this and in doing so tarnished the Party) was the day they started being like the opposition.
The Republicans need to draft a new set of ideas and goals that will focus them for the next few years. They need to stop being RINO’s and start actually realizing the hopes of the base. If they cannot do this, they will continue to see their support recede.
I still have no reason to support the RNC. They have done absolutely nothing to promote ‘conservatism’. Now we have a candidate who isn’t but maybe half conservative. Other half is liberal towards liberals. Yuck!!!!!
I have a suggestion…
If the GOP wants money donated…how about they start acting like Republicans
;, instead of acting like Quasi-Liberal, Big Spend, Open Borders, anti-American worker, Puppets of Lobbyist, and turning away from Reagan principles Democrats.
until then, I will laugh all the way to the trash can, on any and all GOP requests for donation I receive.
They cannot be serious?? They think they can spit on a majority of their constituency, and expect to be supported with cash from the same folks they disrespected, and disenfranchised?!? Let them go beg from the barrios!!!
I was watching a news clip wherein Big John was p.o.’d at some talk show host that dissed BO, and Madeline Albright, at one of McCain’s campaign rallies yesterday. The fool (McCain) then makes a statement that he’s mighty mad about not treating those nice democrats with respect, and he just won’t have it!!!
There is zero hope for anyone with any sense at all being elected to the Presidency!!!
When I saw the headline, I thought it would be about Boehner wanting the Stupid Party to start working about reining in the exploding budget and oppressive government leviathan.
Turns out he just wants them to fundraise to retain their power to do more of the crap that’s gotten them into this mess in the first place. Boo. Good luck with that. I gave at the office, losers.
The raison d’etre of the latter day Republican party has been to legally and illegally import cheap labor for business.
A consequence is that all this imported labor and maturing jackpot babies vote Democratic and the Republican party has self destructed, but only after “mission accomplished” in turning the once great nation into a cesspool of inexpensive illegal and chamberpot immigrants.
I will send money to and vote for conservatives.
I will NOT send money to or vote for RINOs.
I’ve had it with the Republican party that gives only lip service to conservative values but by their actions show they really believe in more and bigger government, and more and more spending whether the Constitution allows it or not.
If they are not going to fight to win elections, I’m not going to give them money. I’ll support McCain because he is far, far better than the Hussein Obamas that all Muslims are voting for, but I won’t give money to the RNC because of the Shamnesty debacle.
Also, Republicans don’t seem to know how to be ruthless in elections, like liberals are.
Example: Why does Hussein Obama’s election team get hysterical when anything is mentioned about Hussein Obama’s ties to Islam? Because they know they will lose the race on this issue.
Then wimpy, oh-so-nice Republicans refuse to mention Obama’s middle name to appease Obama. . .and guess who wins? So many Republican politicians would rather be nice then win. It is a form of pride.
That is why I feel that money given to the RNC is money wasted. I would much rather give to Catholic nuns or other truly conservative groups who could really use the money.
I’ll give to Melissa Hart’s campaign, if she would ask me. But since I am no longer a Republican (thank you Mr. McCain and Shamnesty) I wouldn’t give them a single penny anyway. I have a feeling I’m going to need that extra money to pay higher taxes no matter who’s elected.
The Republicans need to draft a new set of
ideas and goalsBALLS that will serve us for the next few years. They need to stop beingRINO’sdead asses and start actually realizing the hopes of the base. If they cannot do this, they will continue to see their support recede.Okay, I couldn’t resist!
Where’s the fence?
I agree with many posts here. Maybe Congress should get off their dead asses and run the country instead of worrying about fund raising.
Also, like some here, maybe they shouldn’t have rammed McCain down our throats if they wanted money from conservatives. If we had a Thompson/Hunter ticket, they’d have more money than they’d know what to do with.
If they want to appoint the candidate, then they can pay for it. Screw em!
I’ll keep supporting individual candidates. When we’ve voted the current bums in Congress out and have a field of legislators that walk the talk and listen to the base, then I’ll give them $.
No fence. No Support of any kind. No backbone. No support.
Conservatives to RNC: We told you so.
I donated to Mitt Romney’s campaign. I donate monthly to NumbresUSA. I donated to Rick Santorum’s last election. I will not donate to Pa.GOP, McCain, or the National GOP. I’ll do what Rush, Michelle, and Laura suggested; donate to grassroots and local conservative’s who share my ideals and outlooks. Who is the head of the national GOP? Someone tell him for me-NO DICE!
Ditto ditto ditto — no money until someone (anyone?) talks the talk and walks the walk.
Meanwhile — instead of whining about $$$, who has the audacity to challenge Ohhhhbama before he takes us back to the 18th century????
And yet the clowns have no idea why they are having problems getting money.
I did not see the GOP leadership getting of their dead asses to stop a good number elected and appointed GOP officials from calling their base “bigots”, “racists” and other less than helpful monikers regarding the issue of illegal immigration. The President calls people who got off their dead assess to do something about border security “vigilantes”, and no one bats an eye. Lindsey Graham calls those of us who got off our asses to object to amnesty bigots and no one raises their voice. After months of GOP officials raking a good part of their base across the coals, no one gets off their ass to issue any kind of an apology.
People are murdered on a daily basis at the hands of illegal aliens, children are killed in Newark and Minnesota, and no one in the GOP can get off their ass to recognize we have a real issue in this country. Children in Chandler Arizona are raped by a serial rapist who is a previously deported illegal alien and no one in the GOP gets off their ass to speak up.
They do need to get off their asses. But if they think people are going to respond to that Herculian effort by showering them with money, they have another thing coming. The most likely response they will receive in getting off their asses will be the receipt of a swift kick in their perviously impervious behinds. And frankly, that is more than they deserve.
See. D.C. is still out-of-touch with reality.
I’m still very unhappy with the MSM handing us McCain as the “conservative” candidate. While I am still trying to convince myself to hold my nose and vote for him in November, I’m just not having much luck resigning myself to pull the lever for him. I know it is either socialism with Obama/Clinton or socialism-lite with McCain and that doesn’t make it any easier.
Okay, Soap. So, tell us what you’re really thinking.
Send’em some more Bush Amero’s.
Maybe they’ll get the idea this time.
Does Boehner want the contributions in dollars or dineros?
i kept getting their mail requesting money and assistance in the ‘grass-roots’ effort to get McPain elected. I kept telling them the same thing: “I give my money to conservatives, not liberals. and until the GOP stops providing liberals for presidential candidates they will not get any of my money. you gave me a moderate Bush, I supported and assisted anyway. now you have gone a step further and given me a liberal. i see no difference in the democrat party and the republican party. you pushed amnesty and are willing to give up our sovereignity, now lose my email address!”
i haven’t heard from them since. they want my money and my more valuable time give me a conservative. otherwise, i am looking for a conservative party to support and assist their candidate. and the taunts of the you are wasting your vote if you don’t vote for one of the ‘two’ parties is getting old, too. i have but one vote, and i will vote my conscience. it is time to take the two party system down!
FWIW, No one in my family (all lifelong Reps) have given one thin dime to any Rep org this year (and we normally give till it hurts). Every fundraising letter we have gotten (especcially those with return envelopes) have been politely returned with a note in black sharpie that says “I have 20 million reasons for not sending you money this year”!
Wake up Republican Party!!!
It is my fervent hope that all the retiring and stepping down on the Republican side is because the liberals amongst them see no hope. This party needs a serious enema to get the deadwood out. We are watching the Texas party melt down right now. Once again the Texas GOP is going to put more of the same non-binding resolutions on the primary ballot, watch them pass with 85% approval, and then ignore the issues during the legislative session. We’ve done it with voter ID, appraisal cap reductions, immigration issues, etc. and with a solid majority that is shrinking, the Texas GOP leadership has not attempted to advance one conservative item and we are growing extremely frustrated. You hear me Rick Perry? David Dewhurst?
Clueless, they obviously have’nt read my emails pointing out why my wallet would not be open to them. I know I’m not the only one that has emailed them on this issue, ignore me I ignore you.
Gabe, that’s about an ignorant comment there. One, he’s not Muslim but even if he is… let’s play the game…
the beloved Jorge Busho says we worship the same god… so what are you complaining about? From his own mouth we voted for the same thing…so get over that erroneous garbage (and it’s why McCain and any Rep will lose because it show blatant hypocrisy within the ranks). Your comment and Jorge Busho can’t both be right. Which is it??
I got a call the other day from the RNC wanting money. I told the guy I was not going to give one more penny to the Republicans until they get their act together and not play nice with the democtats. I am tired of them lying to me just to get my vote. I too voted yes on voter ID photo, deal with illegals, and having a vote to raise taxes in Texas. Just like Califorina, if they all pass big time, judges will overtrun the voters wishes. I doubt the Austin bunch will do anything about it anyway. We can’t discriminate against illegals now can we?
L
I just mailed them 10 Pesos; when they start acting like they want Dollars I might send some.
WE can let those that claim to be Republicans that our monies will go to those families that THEY did not protect…..victims of illegals.
That should send a message.
And get banned? I will not give dakine the satisfaction.
In the movie Charlie Wilsons War he was asked about the voters in his Texas district. He said because of the committes he was on he only had to worry about 6 business men from New York that kept him elected. Our reps could care less about us.My checkbook is in a LOCK BOX.It’s time to let your guy go and vote out all incumbents until they see the light and perform to the voters wishes. We have to start somewhere.
I’ll be sure to send them more “Bush pesos.” I thought I already sent plenty but perhaps more will get the point across about their traitorous conduct.
I am constantly amazed that the national and regional Repulican orgs still don’t seem to hear the roar from the grass roots over the betrayal of conservatism. I stopped sending money over two years ago. From time to time I send some to good guys like Michelle Bachmann up here in Minnesota. It seems futile on a larger scale, but she deserves support.
Excellent idea, where can I get some?
The last group our household will give money to is any political party right now. They took enough from us in taxes last year. I have some of the new McCain pesos I would love to send to tho the RNC. Build the fence, secure the borders, and enforce the immigration laws of this country and I might come around.
I love Boehner and his “straight talk” but the GOP keeps pushing amnesty and I am not supporting it at all. They want to sleep with the open border lobby, well they can suffer the TB and Flea bites.
Still writing in Gingrich. Go to hell McInsane. And take your MS 13 with you.
Every time I get myself to consider holding my nose for McCain something happens to remind me why I shouldn’t.
Even if Hillary or Obama wins, I think the Republicans in office will be more prone to resist them than they would McCain.
I’ll make my decision whether to send money when I know who McCain’s running mate will be. If he chooses well (in my opinion) I’ll send a check. If not, I guess we can fight with B. Hussein or Hillary for a few years.
I’m praying for a strong, conservative running mate and an early retirement from office for McCain.
I recently got a RNC money solicitation, thinly disguised as a “conservative values survey.” I think I’ll just send them a few of those “Bush Pesos”, along with a link to this thread.
Sadly, though, I don’t think they’ll get the message.
America,meet handbasket–you know where you’re going.
Boomer #42 where can I get the ones with McCain’s picture on. I have the one with GW on. I put one in with a slip of paper { amnesty = no money EVER]
As I was just reading over Wm. F. Buckleys’ 1955 credenda for the launch of National Review this sentence jumped out at me as being even more applicable today, especially as it applies to amnesty:
“The most alarming single danger to the American political system lies in the fact that an identifiable team of Fabian operators is bent on controlling both our major political parties(under the sanction of such fatuous and unreasoned slogans as “national unity,” “middle-of-the-road,” “progressivism,” and “bipartisanship.”)”
Good grief. Who needs Kos Kid trolls when we have MM and her cadre?! You can rationalize contributions, but I’m sending them money.
Now, now, Box… Just a question: did Boehner have this expression after the 2006 election or when he chewed out fellow Republicans? Perhaps, this expression is more apt?
I really want to picture the exact moment, you know?
To hell with you pack of defeatist losers. I just contributed at GOP.com. We’ve been asleep at the wheel. Wake up.
Boehner’s straight talk needs to go to the Republican base not the legislators. There is a major disconnect between the legislators and the base - and it is a disconnect that will continue for the foreseeable future without some type of outreach by the legislators that show something more than disdain for their constituents.
They are delusional. McCain is the death of the party.
I received my new voters card in the mail the other day. It reads NPA!!! Woohoo!!! I’m free, I’m free, thank Lord almighty, I’m free! I no longer see Republicans and Demoncraps, but rather Socialists and Conservatives. Too bad there are so few Conservatives in the Republican party… Too many Socialists in both!
Now that’s classic.
He wants them to get off their dead asses to raise $$$? How pathetic. Apparently no one at RNC reads what they don’t want to know: We’re taxpayers and that’s all the $$$ you’ll get from us.
A talk show host revs up a crowd with the truth and McCain apologizes for the things he doesn’t have the guts to say.
Funny how nice he is being to Obama and HIllary but when it came to Romney he got down right nasty. I guess he followed Reagan’s 11th commandment not to pick on your Party Members in the Primary? He’s a Democrat in my eyes.
McCains knee-jerk reaction to Cunningham reminds Republicans why they don’t particularly like him. First, he reacted before thinking - an all too typical demonstration of his explosive temper. Second, he presumed that Cunningham’s comments were racial in nature, and this reflects something about McCain’s own view of racial and religious politics. If you stop and think about this, Romney was hammered for being a Mormon and Huckabee for being an evangelical Christian yet Obama belongs to an Africa-first Christian church and has a family upbringing in a Muslim household. Obama has refused to wear the symbols of America or even salute America. To give him a pass on his background is simply silly and foolish.
Step 1 to any plan to taking back or taking over the party is to cut off the water to the Republican establishment. The Democrats know this — why can’t we follow their example? I mean these Republican elitists are just incredible. Doesn’t it ever occur to them that the solid conservatives are the ones most likely to donate to the Republicans? The people they treat like teched Uncle Jed that they hide in the basement and are embarrassed to discuss? It’s more than just the matter of votes.
Yet our Republican betters never skip a beat.
One fun possibility is for everyone who has given them money (and I confess I did so some years back) — go to a stationary store and get billing form(s), the kind you would present to a client. Fill it out to the best of your ability — don’t pad — and send the bill to the RNC for every penny you gave them. You want that money back. Feel free to itemize. Make it as detailed as possible. If they don’t respond, highly-likely,keep dunning them. Write ever more grim and unhappy letters to accompany the bill(s).
They’re slow, we know, but someone might get a hint, someday. Or just send them pesos.
Excellent idea.
Link?
I contribute to NumbersUSA.
I contributed to (in order) Tancredo, Hunter, Thompson, and Romney.
Then I got a call last week to contribute to the Republican party. I explained that I will NEVER contribute to the party that wasted my taxes and a party whose President and next candidate pushed so hard against the will of its members and the America people for Shamnesty - THREE TIMES in two years.
McCain Pesos here.
