San Francisco puts its illegal alien sanctuary status in neon lights

Two years ago, I wrote about a billboard erected in Denver by illegal immigration opponents critical of the city’s open-borders policies:

sanctuarydenver.jpg

The billboard sponsors were trying to shame city officials for flagrantly defying federal immigration laws and endangering residents.

In San Francisco, city officials have no shame. They’re actually launching an illegal alien sanctuary advertising campaign to let the world know that their arms are wide open to lawbreakers:

San Francisco’s “sanctuary” policy for illegal immigrants, which has drawn sharp criticism from conservatives, will be promoted in an advertisement campaign complete with multilanguage brochures and radio and TV public service announcements.

The city-funded outreach campaign is expected to roll out this spring and build on San Francisco’s response to last year’s federal immigration raids, which city officials said scared undocumented immigrants into not accessing city services, reporting crimes or sending children to school.

City officials Wednesday were not able to provide The Examiner with a cost breakdown for the campaign.

“We have worked with the Board of Supervisors, Department of Public Health, labor and immigrant rights groups to create a city government-wide public awareness campaign so that immigrants know The City won’t target them for using city services,” said Nathan Ballard, Mayor Gavin Newsom’s spokesman.

In 1989, the Board of Supervisors adopted legislation enacting a “sanctuary city” policy, which instructs local law enforcement and city departments not to assist federal authorities in enforcement of federal immigration laws. The policy is backed by Newsom and members of the Board of Supervisors.

After last year’s raids, Newsom publicly reaffirmed The City’s sanctuary policy and directed departments to ensure employees are trained in accordance with it.

Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who is working on the planned outreach campaign to undocumented immigrants, said it will ensure “a lot of deserving people” take advantage of city services. “To me, it’s a logical follow-through.”

The announcements will feature Newsom and other city officials, according to meeting minutes from The City’s Immigrant Rights Commission.

The latest proposal is another action making San Francisco “the most flamboyant city in the country when it comes to working against federal immigration laws,” said Steven Camarota, director of research for the Center of Immigration, a Washington, D.C., think tank favoring tougher enforcement of federal immigration laws.

Instead of cutting off all federal funding to cities like this, OMB or GAO should do a study to determine exactly how much illegal aliens cost per capita, use census data to determine how many “deserving” illegals there are in San Francisco, and add that additional tax assessment to the residents of that city. If they personally have to pay for them, we will soon see how welcome these illegal invaders are. It’s pretty clear to me that the mayor and county supervisors are operating under the “endless supply of federal tax money” philosophy.

“City officials Wednesday were not able to provide The Examiner with a cost breakdown for the campaign.”

Perhaps the Examiner should worry more about the other costs to their city associated with such a decision - like the increased strain an influx of illegal immigrants will bring on SF’s social and legal services budgets - costs which are sure to make the campaign’s expense pale in comparison. For example:

Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who is working on the planned outreach campaign to undocumented immigrants, said it will ensure “a lot of deserving people” take advantage of city services. “To me, it’s a logical follow-through.”

Seriously, they could call it the “Sanctuary Surtax”. Let’s say that the population of San Francisco is 400,000. And let’s assume that there would be 100,000 illegals residing there as well. And let’s assume that studies show that the average illegal costs the taxpayers $20,000 per year in social services. The city of San Francisco would then enact the “Sanctuary Surtax” to add $5,000 to every resident’s tax bill to pay for the freeloaders.

I’m sure that all of the immigration activists would flock to San Francisco, gladly paying that additional $5,000 to show their solidarity.

It might even make up for the other frustrated taxpayers who would be leaving in droves.

I agree…an insurrection. You can be damned sure that if a city were flouting the rule of (federal and constitutional law) in any area that concerned the left (If for example, they were failing to be sweet to gays…), you can be damn sure it would be treated as an insurrection and the CA national guard would be federalized.

But, of course, the left is permitted to ignore — or openly violate — the law.

No, Abe Lincoln is definitely not around. Definitely not in the White House. A wimp is in the White House. A wimp who himself refuses to enforce the laws. Also, all the post offices in my city shall take down the federal “Most Wanted” signs, since it’s not our job to help them. Yeah, they might not ever get caught and more people might die, but that’s not our city’s problem, right?

Problem solved and the illegals will be welcomed with open arms to SF.

UberInfidel67 is absolutely correct. Illegal Aliens are residents so they are included in the Census count.

The next census count will be in 2010 and this count will determine the boundaries for the House of Representatives. So there is just enough time to flood San Francisco with even more Illegal Aliens to create an even safer seat for Rep. Nancy Pelosi. This is an outrage!

There should be a national effort to pressure Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to cut off all federal funds to San Francisco until the city agrees to comply with federal immigration laws.

And we should all highlight the conflict of interest that this sanctuary policy presents for Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

This really is a national issue because if California gets additional seats in the House of Representatives due to the number of Illegal Aliens in the state, then California will be taking seats in the House away from another state.

I am sure there are a few billion “deserving” Chinese, Indians, Africans, etc., too. Why not invite them as well? Is the welcome mat only out for illegal Mexicans, or can anyone join the party?

Where do the whackos of SF draw the line? Is there a line? Are illegal Mexicans more deserving than illegal Chinese?

Should make for some interesting Ninth Circuit Court decisions, LOL!! This shoud really drive down the cost of homes in SF!

What’s the very stupidest thing about this very stupid situation is that this is going on despite inevitable cuts throughout the school district, a quarter-billion dollar deficit, and City departments that are ignoring requests for cuts in overtime.

And the icing on the cake? You can’t arm yourself to protect yourself and your family from the criminal element that decides to come…

Actually, that stupid law was shot down in a smoking heap last year… ironically enough, by the 9th Circuit court. The NRA came out with all guns firing against this full on infringement of the 2nd Amendment, and won another for the people of the USA……and the morons of SF.

I live 200 miles south of SF, but their crap already extends to my county. No doubt our illegal community will grow ten-fold in a few years.

Oh…..I am most definitely armed too :)

Shhhhhhh! No one is suppose to talk about what’s happening between the blacks and the mexicans.

Eventually they will completly overwhelm the blacks and drive them out of their nieghborhoods. THEN, who will be the growing and brazen latino gangs next targets?

SF, like all sancuary cities, will continue to drive out the taxpayers that are expected to pay for all the services the city wants to provide, a recipe for disaster.

If the city leaders love their illegal serf labor so much, they should open their own homes, use their own money to pay for them (not taxpayers)and have what they really want, modern day plantations.

Yep, some of you guys hit a nail that no one wants to talk about openly: in South Central LA Latino gangs have already run blacks out of neighborhoods, by simply killing as many as they can. Including kids, non-gang-bangers, anyone that happens to be breathing while black. If SF can’t learn from this example, they are going to repeat it.

To that end, there may be a positive here for everyone not in SF: maybe more of the illegals here in Orange COunty, for example, will go up there.

I know we have Santa Ana, aka Northern Mexico City, but alot of us in OC are getting fed up. Perhaps if we push back, they will go to SF where they are “welcome!”

The illogical “thinking” of San Francisco city officials and their fellow travelers in sanctuary policies leads to this abomination: a revolving door to a safe haven for sexual predators who re-enter our country at will.

When an illegal immigrant commits a crime in Arizona he or she is sent to jail or prison and then deported back to Mexico. However, 5 Investigates uncovered that instead of dropping the offenders deep into Mexico; they are being dropped off right at the border.

Agents said they identified sex offenders from North Carolina, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa and California that were deported to Mexico and then turned around and re-entered the U.S. at the Arizona border.

Police said the Chandler rapist was one of these offenders.

The Chandler rapist is an illegal immigrant who was deported twice from California to Mexico.

Our civilization, or what’s left of it, is doomed with these elected officials in power and their misguided supporters keeping them there. If government tolerates, and in this case even encourages, anarchy, there will always be a significant percentage of hardened criminals along with the “good ones”, who only steal ID’s to work.

For more outrage, I recommend this site. Warning - take your blood pressure medicine first.

    The hypocrisy is astounding!

They pretend to care about the environment in SF but then they open their arms to the most environmentally unfriendly group of people ever….not to mention many illegals are Christians.

Liberals say they want a colorblind world but open their arms to one of the more racist groups of people.

I would laugh but as someone who has always taken personal responsibility, took care of my family, donated time to those less fortunate, and always paid my taxes I find liberals/democrats truly threatening to my freedoms and way of life

This is GREAT news! I give it maybe 2 years before Mexican gangs start roaming the streets of SF beating up gays. The city should also be broke by then as social services collapse, hospitals close and affluent people move out for better schools. In 3 years it will be a slum.

You beat me to it! I can hardly wait until MS-13 excrement takes SF up on the offer and claims the town as ‘territory’. The moral and legal dilemma will be a sidesplitter.

First off as a SF native unlike the city stupidvisors the only ones that want the city to be a festering swear are those banking their jobs on pandering to every social racial and sexual orientation group?
The cold hard truth is most property is not owned by the locals {transplants} but buy people {real locals} who have moved out of the city and hold the property as rentals. This way the city can sock it to them on taxes while at the same time piss off their 6 billion dollar a year budget. That right a city of just under 3/4 of a million has an annual budget of 6 billion dollars.
I grew up in the city and for the past 19 years it has gone down the toilet big time.
One good thing is the country sheriff refuses to follow the city sanctuary polices and will not let his people violate the federal law so they do report illegal’s to feds.
