“Fauxbama” and the race-mongers
Just when you think identity politics can’t parody itself any better (or worse), along comes a new set of race-mongers with an even more absurd set of grievances.
A story in today’s Washington Post reads like a lead story in The Onion (via HA Headlines):
When Barack Obama announced his candidacy for president last year, some observers questioned whether the senator from Illinois was “black enough” to embody the hopes and aspirations of African Americans.
Now a variation on that theme has emerged: Is Fred Armisen, who is not African American, “black enough” to embody Obama on “Saturday Night Live”?
Debate over that question has been pinging around the Internet since Armisen, a veteran cast member, donned darker makeup to portray the Democratic candidate for the first time Saturday. Armisen played Obama opposite Amy Poehler’s Hillary Clinton in a sketch satirizing the supposedly cushy treatment his candidacy has received from the media.
“SNL” impresario Lorne Michaels said yesterday by phone that he thought the sketch played so well that the show intends to air another Obama/Clinton debate spoof tomorrow night, with Armisen and Poehler reprising their characters.
The p.c. police worked itself up into a lather:
Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune put the question bluntly: “Call me crazy, but shouldn’t ‘Saturday Night Live’s’ fictional Sen. Barack Obama be played by an African-American?” Ryan went on to conclude: “I find ‘SNL’s’ choice inexplicable. Obama’s candidacy gives us solid proof of the progress that African-Americans have made in this country. I guess ‘SNL’ still has further to go on that front.”
Hannah Pool, a writer for the Guardian newspaper in Great Britain, suggested the whole setup had “minstrel” overtones.
“Casting a black actor wouldn’t have guaranteed the quality of the sketch, but it would have made the whole thing a lot less shoddy,” Pool wrote. “Let’s get one thing straight. The moment anyone starts reaching for ‘blackface,’ they are on extremely dodgy territory. Anyone who thinks it’s either necessary or, for that matter, remotely funny to black-up needs to have the gauge on their moral compass reset.”
Never mind that both Obama and the “Fauxbama” actor, Armisen, are multi-racial.
Nobody much cared about Armisen’s racial background (he is of white and Asian heritage) when he played Prince and Steve Jobs during seasons past of the NBC show. Nor did it seem to matter that “SNL’s” Darrell Hammond, who is white, has impersonated the Rev. Jesse Jackson for years. Or that decades ago on “SNL,” Billy Crystal played Sammy Davis Jr.
Commenter Vizzini turns the tables:
“Would a black SNL actor be white enough to play Obama?”
Exactly.
The same kind of racial identity frenzy broke out over the casting of English actor Jonathan Pryce as the Eurasian pimp in “Miss Saigon.” Remember?
Actors’ Equity denied permission yesterday for the English actor Jonathan Pryce to appear on Broadway next spring in the role of the Eurasian pimp that he created in the hit London musical ”Miss Saigon.”
The action by the American actors’ union came in the face of a threat by Cameron Mackintosh, the show’s producer, to cancel the Broadway engagement of ”Miss Saigon” should Mr. Pryce be denied permission to re-create the role. The musical about an American G.I. and his Vietnamese lover in Saigon in 1975 was scheduled to open in March 1991 and has an advance sale of $24 million, the largest in Broadway history.
”After a long and emotional debate, the Council has decided it cannot appear to condone the casting of a Caucasian actor in the role of a Eurasian,” the actors’ union said in a statement that was read at news conference at its headquarters by Alan Eisenberg, the union’s executive secretary.
”The casting of a Caucasian actor made up to appear Asian is an affront to the Asian community,” Mr. Eisenberg continued. ”The casting choice is especially disturbing when the casting of an Asian actor, in this role, would be an important and significant opportunity to break the usual pattern of casting Asians in minor roles.”
That was 18 years ago. How pathetic to see the creative arts reduced to another self-pitying vehicle for the most unimaginative dullards of the racial/ethnic bean-counting mob. How little has changed.

Is this going to be our Danish cartoon moment?????
What’s next, you’ve insulted the prophet Barack?
What ever happened to the old days during Greek theatre when the men also played the role of women.
I think SNL should bring Billy Crystal to play Sammy Davis. I think the media’s just giving SNL more work. LOL
Whiiirrrrr….MAMMY!….whirrrr…..
the sound of Al Jolson spinning in his grave!
Don’t ever let the facts get in the way of a good victimhood.
What pathetic knickers-twisting by fools who have too much free time.
30 years ago, when SNL was actually clever and funny, Garrett Morris played Anwar Sadat to John Belushi’s Menachem Begin.
The result was hilarious.
And, I do not recall ever hearing so much as a peep that, “Hey, Sadat’s Egyptian Arab (Semitic), and Morris is black! How dare they?!”
It was just two guys putting on a great performance.
But now…what a bunch of meaningless words, of “…sound and fury, signifying nothing….”
I guess there is so much high dudgeon, because the stakes are so small.
Again, it’s so sad…yet one more pathetic example of how our dumbed-down society & culture are drifting downward.
i am tired of the stupidity. the pc police have no sense of humor. and besides, Armisen probably looks more like Obama.
This is the point that really gets me, Obama’s mother was white. He is multi-racial. He is not the pure black candidate that he and the liberals insist. How to make an issue of nothing. The skit was successful, it wsa funny and creative, leave it alone.
I guess the next thing is if any of these Amy Poehler is smart enough to play the former “smartest woman in the world”
I was just reminded of something as well…
After the September 11th attacks, they were going to build a sculpture of the 3 “white” firemen who raised the flag.
There was a huge outcry by the P.C. communty that…hhmmmm…they weren’t ethnical enough. “Hey, there should be a black guy in there somewhere”.
Can’t have things both ways folks.
If they’re going to get all upset over this – then I’m going to demand that all those DVD’s, video tapes and episodes of SNL where Eddie Murphy uses make-up and goes out on the street as a white guy get pulled from the shelves and reruns…
I’m outraged! How dare a black man put on make-up to pretend he’s white!
Sincerely,
Ted Danson
I guess I should be horribly offended that Eddie Murphy has donned whiteface on SNL and in movies. And while I’m at it I guess I should be highly offended by Shawn and Marlon Wayans doing the same thing in their movie “White Chicks”.
John Belushi, Samuri Warrior
I guess Ryan doesn’t count Colin Powell or Condi Rice as evidence of black success. Of course! They are Republicans!
Sandra Oh also blasted racialists who complained about the Asian actresses who played other nationalities in Memoirs of a Geisha. “If Europeans can play other nationalities, why can’t we?”
Is an SNL skit really the biggest problem we face in America today? I mean with Irag/Afghanistan, the economy, mortgage bailouts, unsecured borders, etc etc, is this the biggest thing they have to complain about?
Let’s set some priorities folks. We have professional athletes using steroids, Britney has supervisied visitation back, for heaven’s sake, focus people.
It’s a parody for crying out loud! The PC crown has to lighten up.
walterc,
Nail—->Head
Here is a link which might open a few eyes….the skinny on how BO got to the top in the world of Chicago Democrat politics.
Sorry….trying to make this work…
Well if you go to Houston Press and read the story titled ‘Barack Obama and Me’,you will get the drift….sorry Michelle
Armisen and SNL did a great Black Hussein Osama. Key for the physical likeness were the huge ears, just like Hussein’s, and an index finger long enough to poke your eye out, to emphasize every word. Can’t wait until the next episode when they ask Black the first question and he does not have Hillary’s answer to model his response. Might he say the question is not of interest in the Subculture. Look out Chicago. In your back yard.
There’s always some people in the world who, as my Dad says, would gripe if you hung them with a new rope.
There’s some people who would gripe because there’s nothing to gripe about.
Uh, hello, Obama is half black. His father was a real African, not a former American slave. Hello? Anyone understand the difference. In Identity Politics, what identity exactly is Obama supposed to play?
It will not be long before Hillary is complaining that Amy didn’t have enough spackling paste on her face and did not look authentic. I believe she and Huckabee are trying to see who is the biggest loser.
Ms. Ryan has balls…literally. Watch this video clip and dispute me.
The real question should be why Ms. Ryan was portrayed by a man instead of a woman.
Martin Luther King is rolling in his grave…
Its not the content of a Man’s character… its who plays the character on TV….
*Grabs popcorn as liberals eat their own.*
When the “Miss Saigon” flap was crudding up the newspapers, I wondered if whacko lefties like that shrimp Linda Hunt would give back the Oscar she won for playing a Chinese-Australian GUY in “The Year of Living Dangerously” with Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver.
We need an image for “Perpetually Outraged Race Pimps” to complement the one for Islamists.
I think black face is an enduring and funny treatment, especially in parody. Any time someone grouses about insulting Obama racially, it seems to flop. Things are getting a little better on that front, I feel.
Thank God SNL can cut both ways, as you’d expect them to be just liberal hacks. Turns out they’re not.
Soft-balling BHO has been a total failure of the news media. They suck so badly it hurts. OTOH, now that BHO is letting out some of his platform, I wretch violently to hear it’s content.
How on Earth can the dems expect to run a guy that far left?
HA HA racist Yankees! How does it feel to be demagogued?
Am I the only one who is going to reference ‘White Chicks‘?
Come on people, ya’ll are all slipping here.
The race pimps are often, shall we say, two-faced. When Jonathan Pryce appeared in “Miss Saigon” they were outraged. But when Robert Guillaume (an African-American) took over the stage role of “Phantom of the Opera”, they cheered.
Rule of thumb:
Black playing a white: acceptable
Asian playing a half-Asian: acceptable
White playing a half-white: Nazi go home!
Rip Ford is on the ball. . . sorry I missed you buddy. The response is absolutely ‘White Chicks’.
Proving that the vast right wing conspiracy has no sense of humor, we have another MM huff-n-puff without even mentioning that the sketch is very funny.
Conservatives have Mallard Fillmore and liberals have Doonesbury. One is often funny, the other not so much. “Hey Liberal Professor, what’s the best way to grow the economy?” — “Higher taxes and more regulation, . . . and higher tuition.” har har har.
The racial stuff doesn’t bug me as it clearly bothers others to whom Michelle points.
But his delivery absolutely sucks. Granted, the writing’s not too great either. But there are plenty of good reasons to find someone else in my opinion. He really needs to step it up or step aside.
Unlike the VLWC, the VRWC has a sense of humor and does not need to be instructed when to laugh.
Doonesbury’s still published? Seriously?
I had some comments to make, but, seems like most of the ideas I had are taken. SNL is sometimes ’shoddy’!!! What the hell… it’s supposed to be.
…If SNL wants to really tweek the PC whiners, they should make-up Fred half black and half white….Run tape down his forehead, nose, chin and neck. Do left half “Dad Black” and right half “Mom White”.
If the liberals are getting the panties in a bunch over superficial BS like this just wait until someone goes after “Barrack Hussein Obama” on his lack of substance. Hope I don’t loose my posting privileges for using his name. As Rush called him today the “candidate that must not be named” and I always saved that for the Hildabeast (in my opinion the Lord Valdemont of the political class).
I really don’t want to sign up for Hulu to view that. Would anyone happen to have a YouTube link for that skit? (I found one for Huckabee’s appearance, but not the faux debate skit.)
re: ‘Miss Saigon’….
B.D. Wong (Yup, the ‘Law & Order: SVU’ guy) wrote, “There is no doubt in my mind of the irreparable damage (Oh, puh-leeeeeeeeeeeeeez!!!-guitarguy) to my rights as an actor that would be wrought if (at the threshold of the 21st century) Asian actors are kept from bringing their unique dignity to the specifically Asian roles….”
‘Kept from bringing…’….?
Who was preventing this yo-yo – or any other Asian actor – from getting work???
And: ‘Unique dignity’…..?
Asian dignity is different from anyone else’s dignity…..????
How, exactly?
Colleen Dewhurst (then-president of Actor’s Equity):
Miss Dewhurst said in response to a question yesterday that the decision to bar Mr. Pryce was in no way censorship. ”It’s not censorship because it wouldn’t have been censoring for us to ask for the stopping of the minstrel show,” Ms. Dewhurst said.
”In this case,” she added, ”what we’re saying, what a whole community is saying, is that this is the time. The time has arrived.”
……but 20 years earlier:
Ms. Dewhurst herself played an Asian character in a 1970 production of ”The Good Woman of Setzuan” at Lincoln Center.
This is just plain silly! Blackface? Whiteface? Gimme a break!
In order to stop the madness, everyone is forbidden to use make-up. Sorry women of color, you can no longer even out your skin tones to make yourself more presentable. White gals, uh-uh…you either! And forget about using quick tanning sprays or creams. Don’t you understand you are mocking those in our society who are ashamed of the skin color to which they were born?
Going on TV? Don’t even think about using cosmetics to “cut down the shine.”
I’m waiting for the “outrage” from older people who have earned their wrinkles, and taking offense at those in the acting professions, which includes lawyers and politicians, whose use copious amounts of make up and hair color to alter their appearance. Or…why haven’t the youth in this country demonized their elders for trying to look young and hep?
Isn’t it all just about trying to appear like something you are not, whether acting for comedy, or politics?
Guys, we’re all missing the most important part. Why did they cast a WOMAN to play Clinton? To insult her and further unlevel the playing field? They should have cast a man to show that they’re not singling her out
There’s an old rule of thumb one drop of black blood makes you black. And Hitler had his own rules about what makes you Jewish and therefor eligible to be sent to Auschwitz. Do people really want their identity based on standards set by slaveowners and Hitler? I wouldn’t think so! Identity politics is for those with so few personal values, such a lack of a rudder, such inner emptiness, that they must define themselves based on standards set by others. What damage that’s causing to our country.
Who needs a parody when you have the democrats?
Sounds like the DNC to me.
Fred Armisen playing Barack Obama is not a big deal. Seriously, it isn’t. Some people will make a stink out of it simply because they may want the attention that it brings. And in the same light, some people will make a stink out of other people making a stink simply they may want the attention that it brings. It is what is is. But its still not a big deal.
With that being said, there are a few interesting things that have been said regarding this.
I’m not even sure what that even means. I’m assuming that that’s refering to the fact that Obama is bi-racial, as is most of the black people in this country that haven’t directly immigrated from Africa in the past 30 years. Are most blacks 1st generation bi-racial? No. But even light skinned black person you see has been mixed with someone of a fairer complexion somewhere up the line, and sometimes, not far up the line.
The one drop rules exists. Like it or not, it exists. And it’s not the creation of American blacks either. It’s the result of a race of people not wanting to “defile” the purity of the race with blackness. It has become so ingrained in the culture of America that its almost an after thought. Consider this; how many mixed individuals can you name that you would consider “white”? Off the top of my head, I really can’t think of any.
Furthermore, I think that one comment is definitely missing the point, almost humorously so:
Yes, they are both multiracial, but none of the races that Armisen is can be considered black, which is where the criticism lies. It’s almost as if MM is suggesting that being multi-racial is close enough to being black, so there shouldn’t be any complaints. Or it other words “Its not like he’s white, so what’re they complaining about?”.
Again, the whole issue isn’t a big deal but brings up interesting points.
lgm, who said the VRWC doesn’t have a sense of humor. We laugh at almost all your jokes. Say what? Those aren’t jokes… Sorry about that.
We are running McCain for president. That’s about the only joke on us we aren’t laughing about.
If the PC crowd want to get offended, how about the casting of Whoppie Goldberg as a nun (Sister Act), Eddie Murphy as an obese man or woman (The Nutty Professor and Norbit), Chris Rock as an apostle in Dogma (although they did get it right with Janeane Garofalo as an abortion clinic worker), or Michael Moore as himself in anything?

Good one!
LOL!
What about that White guy playing a Chicano?
Where’s the outrage?????
La Raza, LULAC – where are you???
Standby for the goofiest, most irritating Presidential election ever!!!
With the race baiters howling at anything that can be remotely construed as racially motivated in relation to the messiah … oops, I mean… Husein…. oops, I mean… Barry.
Every McCain utterance will be examined by the inquisitors in the ever watchful media. With the republicans falling all over themselves to appease and apologize, whenever a mole hill is successfully turned into a mountian.
mpChops, you bring up a few valid points, but I have a problem with this statement:
First – just about every person you know is “mixed.” I’m blonde haired, green-eyed, and rather pale skinned. One great-grandfather came over from Iran (full blooded Syrian) and the other came over from Norway (full-blooded Norwegian). So I take after one side more. But people call me white. Because that’s the best way to describe me.
I’m just one example, but I truly can think of others. I had the “pleasure” of working on our company’s 5500 this year, which basically is a spreadsheet we have to send to the government every year to show the racial balance of our business. I couldn’t figure out what one woman was (I thought she was white, just darker skinned), but she’s Hispanic. Never would have guessed it.
But I just don’t go around spending all my free time labeling people and worrying about such things. What is what these race-mongerers spend all their time doing. Looking frantically for something to throw a fit about.
Personally, I have always been deeply disturbed that Diana Ross was allowed to portray “little Dorthy” from Kansas in “The Wiz”. It may have caused a whole generation of white folks to become confused and disoriented about their racial identity and their place in a diverse universe. Barry Gordy was very insensitive to the closely held role models of the white race by placing a black woman in that role. However, I believe that the Reverend Al Sharpton’s portrayal of “Toto” was truly inspired.
Boomer said (#35):
Without repeating Boomer’s obnoxious uncomfortable metaphor, I will say that MM seems more exercised than the supposed PC liberals she’s quoting.
As for Obama’s middle name, the only reason Rush repeats it is to associate Obama with Saddam. What, I wonder, are your definitions of “cheap shot” and “substatntive discussion”. And if the McCain/Obama debates turn substantive I think we’ll find out who has substance and who “doesn’t know much about economic policy” (McCain, about himself).
It seems that Barrack and his buddies get worked up about everything. Kind of like the Muslims and their perpetual rage. He doesn’t want to be called Liberal…He doesn’t want to be called Hussein… Fine. We will call you Hus-not-sein. Is that better.
Maybe someone should tell the MSM that this is not the first time SNL has used a white guy to impersonate someone black. They have been doing it for years:
Hello? Does anyone remember Billy Crystals impersonation of Sammy Davis Jr??
This is just another example of the MSM inventing news.
amigoneus,
I agree that there’s few protypical “white” and “black” people in America. That is to say that it’d be difficult to find a person that has a bloodline so pure for outside factors. But even so, I doubt that you’d find that the majority of people consider themselves mixed. Sure, people may consider themselves mixed due to national origin, but racially? I once had a girl I was dating ask me my race. I told her, and then she went on to explain that she was a quater german, a quater irish, and the rest was English. I told her we already had a word for that: “White”. I was joking, but there’s some truth to it. Having mixed nationalities or even mixed ethnicities doesn’t neccesarily lead to being mixed racially.
Even more so, there’s the bigger question that you brought up regarding what it actually means to be mixed. By that I mean, how far down the line does the mix have to occur for it still to “count”. Obviously we can consider first generations to be mixed. Second too. But third? Forth? Fifth? For example, if the whitest of white men has a child with the blackest of black women, and that child have a child with the blackest of black women, and that child has a child with a blackest of black women and so on and so on. At what point do we cease to call that child mixed and call him black? Ever? It’s a rather rhetorical question, as I guess it will change from person to person. Just something that I was thinking about during a slow day at work.
#9 Rip Ford:
I WAS offended by the movie “White Chicks.” Not because of the Wayans brothers’ portrayal of white women, but because it’s an hour and a half of my life I can never get back.
People, people…
All ot these are good choices (Billy Crystal as Sammy Davis Jr.) but they’re NOT political enough.
May I present to you…
Will Ferrell as Janet Reno
And, Ms. Reno was a very good sport about it and even appeared with him on one of the Skits.
I was offended that they didn’t give Jorge Ramos the proper thick accented unable to understand you dialect. And they should have thrown in some of that pigeon spanish just to make it more authentic.
Really? Well what about the fact that he looks pretty darned much like Obama in this sketch?
I think this is just so silly.
ummmm, isn’t that why it’s called “acting”?
I suggest bloggers and other readers check out the link in post #51.
Then decide for yourselves if Juan Cole is a source you expect to get nonbiased information from.
Anyone else here claim to know why Rush Limbaugh (whom I have never listened to, BTW) repeats Mr. Obama’s middle name?
Why, if that middle name is as wonderful as Mr. Cole oozes about it at his web site, then the fact that Rush Limbaugh mentions Hussein a lot should be cause for celebration…no?
Associate Obama’s middle name with Saddam Hussein, the Butcher of Baghdad?
In #51’s opinion, perhaps.
But, that’s a pretty lame statement.
Most folks probably have the smarts to not even think of Saddam when the full name Barack Hussein Obama is mentioned.
It just might be that, on hearing Obama’s middle name, Hussein, people might associate that with…oh, let me think…hmmm…let’s see…why, maybe the fact that his father and stepfather were Muslim, and that he had attended mosque in Indonesia?
Naaahhh.
Why would anyone make that association?
And, even if that association is made, what’s wrong with that?
Gee, from my brief view, Juan Cole seems to celebrate Islam.
Finally, if there is nothing to hide; if there is nothing wrong with that particular name; what’s wrong with using Mr. Obama’s middle name?
SNL is still on.
wow.
SNL is parody, pure and simple. This is not the first time someone on SNL has portrayed characters not of their own ethnicity or, for that matter, even their own gender. Several illustrations of those have been mentioned earlier in the commentary and, even, in the body of the blog article.
Now, were a black Republican, like Michael Steel or J.C. Watts to be running and SNL had done the same thing, would Ryan and Pool and those other radical defenders of racial consistency have rushed to pen their disgust with the skit for having them portrayed by someone with blackface makeup? I feel confident going on the record as saying they would not.
And just as an aside, they didn’t need to find anyone to play Huckabee. He was silly enough to go on there himself for a cameo appearance. I’m waiting to see McCain do something similar. But, if he doesn’t and they use a young stand in made up to look like someone him, will they be geriatric-baiting?
Sorry. Typing too fast, I guess.
The “White Like Me” skit, jrl? That was a classic! Haven’t seen it since it was originally broadcast.
If SNL is going to reprise this Obama-Clinton thing I might just watch it tomorrow – something I haven’t done in years. This is a way funny expose of the MSMs’ “Obama leg tingles”.
It’s rare when SNL takes on the PC world, but they did a good job here.
Now the p.c. police really have me confused.Isn’t the creative art here called ACTING?As in portraying someone or something UNlike yourself. So,an ACTOR playing a role is not acceptable as art,but Robert Maplethorpe with a bullwhip sticking out of his butt is art?I guess I’m just not cultured enough to understand.
Jim Carrey also wore blackface when he played Sammy Davis Jr. in an “In Living Color” skit.
Sometimes I call my friend, “Sistah”, or “Li’l Sistah”, and we’re both white.
Is that wrong?
OK, You’re crazy!
Here’s a link to a full 9 minute video of this SNL opening skit:
Saturday Night Live Barack Obama
Milwaukee Mike, #68, True dat. Plus, even the real Sen. Barack Obama isn’t played by an African-American, so whatev.
My favorite was Adam Sandler playing Bill Cosbyng an episode of the Cosby Mysteries.
A 30 something Jewish man doing an impersonation of a 60 something black man, and it was dead on.
Sandler had all of Cosby’s facial mannerisms, and the “Cos Speak.”
“Schisemflop…flazzmajazz…flizzmflazzm…puddin pop…”
It is called ACTING for a reason.
During Shakespeare’s time, the women were played by men. The plays went on.
I want a man to play Hillary. That would be funny.
Respectfully,
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express
This pandering to Obama should be focused on his heritage and culture – not race. I would remind everyone that Mitt Romney’s Mormonism was a mainstream topic, and he was even forced to defend himself on the basis of his faith. Mike Huckabee’s evangelical Christian background and ministry has been under attack for months now. Even John McCain’s lapsed Presbyterianism has been mentioned a time or two. To say that Mr. Obama’s heritage as a Muslim child and his current Afro-centered Christian practices is now off limits sends a very ugly message – namely that the religion and cultural practices of a Republican are up for criticism and exposure but the religion and cultural practices of a Democrat are off limits. Frankly, I don’t care who plays Obama on TV, but I do want the media to explore his personal history to the same extent that they explored the personal histories of Republican candidates. Obama has much to account for in his past and everyone should know what is going on so that his middle name “Hussein” can be judged as either just another name or a real reflection of the person.
I wish people would get better at being able to laugh at themselves. I didn’t think anything about the SNL skit was a problem, in fact it made fun of the media and the love showered upon Obama. Who cares what color the actor is?
Who cares??
To make the link work you must remove the double “http://” in the address.
http//restaurants.houstonpress.com/2008-02-28/news/barack-obama-screamed-at-me/
How about Obama and “the bomber”? He has not answered questions about his association with the Weathermen’s former bomb maker in Chicago. Obama has met with this man and served on some board for a community group in Chicago. This man was at war with the United States and is unrepentant for bombing the Pentagon and a police station among other “targets”. It remains to be seen if he is going to be asked about this? He should be.
I thought this was very funny. LGM go back under your bridge please.
Speaking of funny, did anyone see the clip of McCain calling himself a “conservative liberal republican” before he caugh himself. I jsut had to LOL, what a joker that McCain is. Oh wait, it was real.
What is the big deal? Now SNL can’t make fun of or do a parody about Obama? Why is this guy such a protected class? Are his handlers to high on Obamamania that he can’t be touched?
The more I hear people defend Obama, the more I dread his presidency…

Good post.
Exactly.
Agreed.
Nobody should have to answer for their childhood past, whether Muslim or not. I am uneasy with the suggestion otherwise.
I do agree that his current spiritual leader’s bigotry is a huge problem for which he should be scrutinized.
Lgm:
Please… get over yourself. I don’t think anyone is disputing that the sketch was “very funny.” It’s just that the MSM, you and other lefties are taking it so hard.
My goodness kvetching from a liberal troll who is only here for sock puppet comedy. Jeez…move along and say hi to your comrades in the Troll Liberation Front. I hear that not only has Rusty attained full membership status but so has Chaps.
LOL. Anyone have any questions about how things will go if this african-”american” is elected?
Guess she never saw Gene Wilder dressed like a black man with Richard Pryor in ‘Silver Streak’ trying to escape from a train station.
It’s the ‘OH – I am SO offended’ crowd attempting to put the spotlight on themselves while attepting to control everybody else.
Frankly, I’m surprised she isn’t upset that Republicans on SNL have ALWAYS been played by liberal Democrats (Nixon, Food, Dole, Reagan, Bush 41 and 43, and the list goes on and on).
Yet another reminder of the insane consequences of identity and victimhood politics. They tear America apart rather than bring it together.
The greatest violator of socialist ideals are socialist policies.

I do agree that his current spiritual leader’s bigotry is a huge problem for which he should be scrutinized.”
On the face of it, I agree with your statement.
However, we ignore the special situation posed by Islam at our mortal peril:
“Taqqiya” – deception – is an integral part of Ismalic ideology.
So are the recommendations (paraphrased – sorry…too busy to give citations and references) for Muslims:
When in the minority, when weak, go along to get along with the majority, and don’t make waves;
When stronger, start making demands;
When near parity or in the majority, start with the violence and try to impose Sharia.
So is the fact that in Islam, the religious descent is through the FATHER; and, Mr Obama’s father AND stepfather were Muslims.
Mr. Obama attended mosque in Indonesia.
If he recited certain koranic passages, then he is considered by Muslims to be a Muslim – as far as I understand from my reading.
For a Muslim to leave Islam is punishable by death.
It doesn’t matter what the individual feels or says; nor what the socialist, secular, progressive MSM and socialist Democrats feel or say; if the Muslim Umma feels that the indivdual is a Muslim who has apostasized, then that individual is marked for death.
Which brings us back to “Taqqiya” – deception.
Does the wordlwide Muslim Umma feel that Mr. Obama was NEVER a Muslim?
If so, how can we believe or trust the Umma?
The answer is…we cannot.
Despite what Mr. Obama says, is he in fact a Muslim who is employing Taqqiya?
How could we possibly know?
If he is in fact not now a Muslim (never mind for now that “church” to which he is said to belong); but is considered by the Muslim Umma to have been one in the past, and thus now to be an apostate deserving of death…then what does that mean for our nation if he should (sshudderr!) be elected President?
Is he at an incredibly high risk of being targeted for assassination by Muslims as an apostate?
These are aspects of Mr. Obama and the implications of his being elected (again, sshudderr!) to the Presidency that must be publicly, nationally, honestly, thoroughly discussed…NOW!
Emjem24, that was a good response to lgm. It is amazing to me that so few libs, like lgm, can handle the heat of being on a conservative site. Unlike the conservatives who drive libs CRAZY on lib sites like huff post. It just show that it is the liberals who have NO sense of humor and to borrow Michelle’s phrase and book title, are totally “unhinged”.
Of all the non-issues in this campaign, the SNL skit is only the most recent. If anything, Obama benefits from the exposure. Just heard him say we need to get 9/ll off the table. That’s just one of his very dangerous beliefs. This man is very, very scary.

You’re absolutely correct.
I think it is very important to look at a candidate’s past, since past experiences usually shape a person’s current beliefs. I think it is completely fair game to look at BO’s past, including his past religion. When did his conversion happen (I believe it was about 2-3 years before running for office), his connections to anti-semites and anti-American persons and groups, connections to the Iraqi-British billionnaire who helped him buy his georgia style mansion, his connections and $ received from Rezco, attendance of a muslim school inIndonesia, etc., etc. I also would be curious to know if he ever applied for or has dual citizenship? I know a lot of people with foreign parents who do get both a US and another passport. I wonder if BO ever did that, just wondering, I have no evidence at all, but an interesting question. What country does he feel connected to the most, or is he connected to the world?? There are so many unknowns about this guy and now we are being told not to question anythign about him and the GOP is falling in line, it seems.
While I’m at it, I’m offended by Jessica Alba playing a blue-eyed blonde white woman in a movie. Of course I was more offended by Julian McMahon’s weak portrayal of one of the greatest comic book villains of all time but still you can’t tell me that in all of Hollywood they could find a single blue-eyed blonde to play Sue Storm.
I’m also offended by Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Walsh and every other anorexic scarecrow who ever donned a fat suit to portray a morbidly obese person.
Most of all, I’m offended by every conservative character that was ever played by a liberal actor.
lgm,
MM’s story was on the coverage that the SNL sketch received NOT the sketch itself.
I think your complaints should be with the writers that actually covered the sketch.
By the way, you know that you still owe me an answer about the supposed mechanism of AGW. Don’t sweat it – I’m realizing that you’re not smart enough to answer it.
And, of course, we all know how righteously enraged the menfolk are about Cate Blanchett playing Dylan in a movie!!
When will such blatant bigotry against male folk singers end???
…..scratch my other idea #34, I have a better one.
SNL should just call the “first Black President” to play the role of Obama. All they have to do is crop his hair close and dye it Black. He even has the long crooked pointy finger….. I guarantee it would be a hoot and I bet he’d do a helluva job at it.
