Move America Forward’s Melanie Morgan cut from KSFO, vows to continue conservative activism

Move America Forward’s Melanie Morgan is one of my favorite conservative activists. She’s led countless battles against anti-military goons in the San Francisco Bay Area, traveled to Iraq to bring thank you letters to our servicemen and servicewomen on the front lines, and crossed the country to lead rallies in Washington, D.C. countering the Soros mob.

Word came down today that she has been let go from her talk show gig at KSFO by Citadel Radio. Ever the trooper, she vows to continue her work:

Renowned radio personality and national conservative leader, Melanie Morgan, delivered her final broadcast on talk radio powerhouse KSFO 560 AM today – Monday, March 3, 2008.

The owner of KSFO radio, Citadel Broadcasting, decided not to renew Morgan’s contract as part of the company’s announced across-the-board financial cost cutting.

Melanie Morgan has been a fixture on KSFO for the past 14 years, enjoying a run from 1994-2008 that far exceeded industry standards for longevity. During that time, Morgan emerged as one of the nation’s most dynamic conservative activists, using the radio airwaves to motivate listeners who shared her passion to take action and fight for causes important to them.

Morgan’s on-air activism included an effort that removed the carcinogen MTBE from gasoline in California, launching of the historic Recall Gray Davis campaign that led to the election of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Governor of California, and co-founding the nation’s largest pro-troop organization, Move America Forward.

“It has truly been an honor for me to work at KSFO for the past 14 years. What I loved most about my time at KSFO was that it allowed me to connect with listeners and take action to make real changes in the world,” said Melanie Morgan…In 2006, Citadel Broadcasting acquired the ABC Radio group. She has reported on the scene from the Marine barracks bombing in Beirut, Lebanon; the Mexico City earthquake; and the Tiananmen Square massacre in China.

Melanie Morgan says her focus in the days ahead remains unchanged: She will remain a conservative activist leader. “My commitment and dedication to serve as a leader in the movement to support our military men and women continues to grow,
and I am very proud to serve as Chairman of the pro-troop non-profit group, Move America Forward,” Morgan said. Melanie Morgan is not compensated for her work with Move America Forward, a fact since the group was first launched in 2004.

Morgan will also continue her weekly column for the news website www.WorldNetDaily.com and will continue to serve as a television analyst on news programs on cable and broadcast television stations and networks. “My passion and commitment to the troops who are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world are foremost in my heart.

“While I will miss my good friends Lee Rodgers and Officer Vic, and our great producer Sheri Yee, I am excited to stay close to the conservative grassroots. And I’ll always lead with my chin out,” Morgan concluded.

I know she’ll land on her feet. She’s a mover, shaker, and fighter–and a big asset to the conservative movement. Send her your best wishes and encouragement here.

AFter reading Maloney’s article and links, it would almost appear that this clown running things wants to run talk radio into the ground. Now why would someone want to do that?

To paraphrase an old quote: I guess if someone can’t stand the heat they throw you out of the kitchen.
I hope they bring in a liberal replacement for her and end up having to sell the station. Maybe Melanie Morgan can raise the money to buy it herself. Not sure these days how much radio stations go for, but when the stock collapses maybe she can get her two cents ready to give it to them.

Melanie is probably better off. Analysts were expecting Citidel to earn 7 cents a share for the 4th quarter of 2007; Citadel lost $3.24 per share. Ouch.

That kind of performance leads to some interesting moves, and this is one of them. The business they are in makes money largely via advertising revenues, which in turn are driven by the size of the listening audience. Unless they have a plan right now to fill her slot with someone who is going to instantly generate more of an audience, letting her go does not sound like a sound business decision but rather one more in line with “social” policy.

One thing is certain, Melanie will not only land on her feet, she will show Citadel what a huge mistake they made.

I listened to her show with Lee Rogers and thought that she was okay, Lee Rogers is a moron, just plain stupid. Not his political opinions, just how he expressed them, like someone in Junior High School. It’s too bad Melanie got fired and not him.

Last week Curtis (of Curtis and Kuby fame) filled in for Gambling on WABC-NY, I could have sworn he said Gambling would be back in a couple days.

I didn’t happen to tune in again until today and it was Curtis again, so I went to the Web site and Gambling had been erased (though they forgot to cancel the header ad for the ongoing promo for an annual cruise he hosts).

Gambling is third generation talk, he’ll be back somewhere, I don’t do Imus and I while I like Curtis, I can only take him in 10 minute doses; so WABC is out now until Noon. I can pull 1210 from Philly, so hopefully Beck is still on there — don’t know if they’re a Citadel station or not.

It is not just Citidel or ABC that is doing this. Although Salem really is not a head turner unless you are into Christian radio, they do run many syndicated conservative shows. Bill Bennett, Hugh Hewit, for example.

Salem has been making major changes in its Christian side of the house. In order to make room for major syndicated shows it has drop in markets some of the bigger attractions. The reasoning behind this is to get in the Hispanic market. For instance here in Denver they have taken 1650 KBJD/ KNUS2 and now it is Spainish Christian. Last I heared was that even in the Colorado Springs market where they have three stations. They are planning, maybe they already have, formatting another conservative outlet to Spainish.

Now I am not saying this is good or this is bad.

What I am pointing out is that conservative shows are being dropped very fast and hard. Replaced with a more liberal or completely different programing.

Looking at this from a point of a leftwingnut. Conservative shows and hosts off air. The leading braodcast company in talk radio going down the tubes. The CEO of said company totally unqualified and doing way to many things under the table. HMMMMMM, plot to stiffle talk radio?

Citadel fired another great talk show host here in the D.C. area Friday. Chris Core of WMAL radio, a well-known conservative station. He had been on for many years. They didn’t let him say “goodbye”, but instead notified him after his show. He will be sorely missed. They still have Grandy and Andy in the early a.m. You may remember Fred Grandy from “Love Boat” (Gopher) and a 3 time “recovering congressman”.

I think it’s a stretch to say this is all just bad decision making. Here you’ve got a proven left-leaning political contributor (the fact he gave money to McCain just further supports that), who is cutting all the talented conservative hosts and replacing them with people like IMUS (blecchhh!) and Bud Ciancy (Former Democrat party Mayor and convicted Felon).
I won’t make any guesses about Suleman’s religious preference or whether or not it has any impact on his decisions.
If you look up Farid Suleman and/or Citadel Broadcasting on Wikipedia, you can learn alot about how he’s destroying talk radio across the nation. Be warned, some irate shareholder or employee edited some of the Citadel Broadcasting terminology on Wikipedia.

It is amazing someone that lets a very popular talk radio personality go and continues to run a very lucrative business into the ground is reward with a $17 million compensation package. Something is very broken in Corporate America. What every happen to firing people like Farid Suleman.

I used to listen to KSFO when stationed at Travis AFB in the 1990s. I’m sure Melanie Morgan will land her feet too. It is sad to see a voice of conservatism in the liberal wilderness of the Bay Area being silenced.

Ms. Morgan really did have a good run. I never had the pleasure of listening to her on the radio but I did see her a time or town on Fox News. She’s a really great analyst and I appreciate her heartfelt advocacy for military men and women.

What lead to her losing her radio show? Can she be picked up somewhere else (with her production staff)? Was it really “cost-cutting measures” or just an excuse? Why let her show go? Do we know who else paid the “price” for these “cost-cutting measures?”

Good luck to Ms. Morgan. I’m sure your radio audience will miss you. Don’t give up on radio even though this one network decided to give up on you.

graysonret, we just came up to the area at the first of the year and I enjoyed listening to Chris in the mornings. I thought I heard Gopher (sorry, he’ll always be Gopher) say he had been on the station 35 years. I haven’t really listened to what’s now in that time slot so can’t comment on the new person. I can say this, if you have a radio with an antenna and point it towards Fredricksburg, you can pick up Glenn Beck live, well at least I can in PWC.
