The Obamessiah’s sermonizes on the Sermon on the Mount; supports Jeremiah Wright
Barack Obama explains how his Christian faith approves of same-sex unions and abortion. Via Terry Jeffrey at CNS:
“I don’t think it [a same-sex union] should be called marriage, but I think that it is a legal right that they should have that is recognized by the state,” said Obama. “If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount, which I think is, in my mind, for my faith, more central than an obscure passage in Romans.” (See video here) St. Paul’s Epistle to the Romans condemns homosexual acts as unnatural and sinful.
Obama’s mention of the Sermon on the Mount in justifying legal recognition of same-sex unions may have been a reference to the Golden Rule: “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” Or it may have been a reference to another famous line: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”
The Sermon, recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, includes the Lord’s Prayer, the Beatitudes, an endorsement of scriptural moral commandments (”anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven”), and condemnations of murder, divorce and adultery.
But Terry Jeffrey also reminds us about another famous line in the Sermon:
It also includes a warning: “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”
The Soul-Fixer Obama is silent on the Sixth Commandment in addressing abortion:
On the topic of abortion, Obama said his support for keeping it legal does not trespass on his Christian faith.
“I think that the bottom line is that in the end, I think women, in consultation with their pastors, and their doctors, and their family, are in a better position to make these decisions than some bureaucrat in Washington. That’s my view,” Obama said about abortion. “Again, I respect people who may disagree, but I certainly don’t think it makes me less Christian. Okay.”
And in case you were wondering, Obama had this to say about his race-mongering pastor, Jeremiah Wright:
In terms of my faith, you know, there has been so much confusion that has been deliberately perpetrated through emails and so forth. So, just here are the simple facts. I am a Christian. I am a devout Christian. I have been a member of the same church for 20 years. Pray to Jesus every night, and try to go to church as much as I can when they are not working me. Used to go quite often. These days, we haven’t been at the home church, I haven’t been home on Sunday, for several months now. So, my faith is important to me. It is not something that I try to push on other people. But it is something that helps to guide my life and my values.
My pastor is actually retiring this Sunday. Jeremiah Wright is actually retiring and Otis Moss, the 3rd, who is the son of Otis Moss of Cleveland, is our new pastor. And he’s a wonderful young pastor.
I don’t think that my church is actually particularly controversial. It is a member of the United Church of Christ. It’s got a choir. We sing hymnals. We talk about scripture. You would feel at home if you were there.
Jeremiah Wright, who was my pastor, in the past, has said some things that were considered controversial because he has considered that part of his social gospel. So, he was one of the leaders in calling for divestment from South Africa and some other issues like that. And he thinks it’s important for us to focus on what’s happening in Africa. And I agree with him on that.
No, actually, you wouldn’t “feel at home” at Obama/Wright’s church if you reject extremist, un-Christian racial identity politics.

not sure how ferocious he really is but the false prophet is accurate.
I am really confused how can this church ignore God’s treatment of Sodom and Gomorrah and “thou shall not murder” from God’s 10 commandments and still call themselves Christians? Nothing like belonging to the “Church of What’s Happening Now!” Mathew was right, beware of false prophets.
Who needs theological training when you have The Mind of Oh!b♥m♥ to interpret scriptures?
Ah, the Obama’s Witnesses are at it again.
The Bible is very clear on homosexuality and divers perversities. They are all sins. That is the problem with certain liberal churches. They refuse to call this behavior a sin. All Christians profess their sins before Jesus Christ and ask forgiveness. Killing a baby intentionally would be a sin–murder.
Since Oh!b♥m♥ is on the topic of the Bible, maybe he can tell us what this passage means:
MEMO TO: Judeans
Time to head for the mountains!
Spoken like a true liberal. I remember the part in scripture where Jesus said, “dont tell ANYBODY about me, keep it all to yourself, and oh, DONT go out into the world and teach them anything, or make disciples, or baptize them.”
Obama is a phony – he’s what Paul would call a carnal Christian. Am I judging? Dern-tootin. He calls himself a Christian so as a Christian also, I have the right to judge his fruits. And the fruits he’s bearing are rotten to the core.
He wants bureaucrats to stay out of an abortion decision. Of course, liberals want bureaucrats in every other aspect of our lives, why not that one? Why not, Obama, make a stand for the defenseless among us? After all that’s what you liberal democrats about about RIGHT? You remember the scripture, Barak, where Jesus said “whatever you do TO the least of these, you do TO me also.” Then, remember, Barak, when you justtify the killing of an unborn infant, you justify the killing of Jesus also.
I’ll discuss Jesus anywhere, anytime, with anybody.
A couple of us here have talked about how it appears, an Unholy like Energy is behind Obama’s sudden rise to power/influence. People are Blindly following a man who has shown Zero ability, and has no history to prove he knows what he is doing.
Obama = Mabus ????
Jesus was asked about marriage in Scripture and He said it was between a man and a woman. He quoted Genesis. Nowhere did He say it was between “two people who love each other” and all that Liberal crap.
Misterbee241, you are right….Obama is a carnal Christian!
It takes one to know one because I WAS one not too long ago. I claimed to be a Christian yet was pro-choice. Guess what? It doesn’t work that way and it took the Lord to bring me back around to my senses.
I had to be flat on my back for 6 mos while I was pregnant for me to finally realize that a life was growing inside me and that life was precious…and NOT MY OWN but God’s. And I had no “rights” over it at all.
So, I hope that if Obama is a Christian (which I doubt) then he, too, will be brought back by the Lord and do some good for the gospel message instead of hindering it for personal gain.
Again-Obama and his lovely wife are racist at their core. They are also extremists whose “values” are more Marxist than American. What kind of a freak would have anything at all to do with Farrakhan or Wright if he were not a racist? Imagine a White politician saying something like “I love David Duke. We hang out alot. He’s got some interesting ideas. Now I don’t agree with everything he says but this is America, and he has the right to say and think what he wants” His candidacy would last how long? Give me an effing break…
Well, I guess the book of Revelations is dead on.
Read about the appearance of the anti Christ…the signs.
Makes your heart skip a few beats.
Obama says the issue of gay marriage should be decided by the state. Yet his church allows gay priests and supports gay marriage. He cannot have it both ways–church and state cannot play on the same team when doctrinal issues are involved. If he really believed what he’s spouting he’d cite verses from the Bible for support. If he really sought to follow the words in the Bible he’d demand that his pastor close the doors of his church to the outside world on issues such as this. The CS Monitor article on Obama’s religious beliefs and church states the following:
No, I would most certainly not be comfortable in Obama’s church. Just because it’s a member of the Church of Christ (a respected denomination) doesn’t mean it’s inner workings as an individual church isn’t suspect. I “pray to Jesus every night” also gives me pause. Doesn’t exactly fit with “pray without ceasing” and you’d think that in seeking the most stressful job in America you would be doing just that! Obama and his church are simply running their own show and following their own ultra-liberal path.
What a great turn of a phrase from Mark: The Obama-nation that causes desolation
“When you see ‘the Obama-nation that causes desolation‘ standing where it does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the roof of his house go down or enter the house to take anything out [worse than Katrina!]. Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Pray that this will not take place in winter [January 20, 2009?], because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now—and never to be equaled again. If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them. At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect—if that were possible. So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.
I’m with gayle on this one:”Read about the appearance of the anti Christ…the signs.”
In James 2:19 Bible also states, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
I forget the reference, but the Bible mentions people who call evil good, and good evil.
That sure sounds like what Barak HUSSEIN Obama is doing.
Black Jesus
The Sermon on the Mount condemns divorce. Obama has not been divorced, but McCain has. If you are going to condemn those who violate (your idea of) Christian teachings, you should not overlook your man.
Sorry, that is an oxymoron, “carnal Christian”. You are either one or the other.
We stopped calling ourselves “Christian” years ago because of people like Obama and Mrs. Clinton. People call themselves “Christian” all of the time and wouldn’t lift a finger for their fellow man (forget about lie, cheat, steal…). In this case Obama uses the Bible out of context – big surprise. To twist GOD’S word, specifically the “sermon on the mount”, to come up with JESUS was saying “same sex unions” are okay by HIM is a lie at the very least. Then to say that there is an obscure passage in Romans is off the chart!
I could go on with the few short references in this thread and take up the entire band width with the problems with this man calling himself a “Christian”. Suffice to say, HIS sheep hear HIS voice.
lgm couldn’t comment on Hugo getting a tax break form the Dimocraps but has determined that divorce is the reason a person should be President.
Drank his Kool Ade this morning and added an ounce of dum-dum while he was at it.
Has anyone asked Sen Obama exactly what in the sermon he is connecting to his position on gay marriage? I mean vice speculating, ask him what he means and where exactly in the sermon does he see support for his position.
As for his stating that there is an obscure passage in the Bible, my understanding is that for people who accept the Bible, everything is valid and is the word of God. How can anything in the Bible be obscure?
Lastly, Gov Huckabee and Sen Obama share the opinion that they will not push it (their religion) on other people.
Good point…but irrelevant. Christians ackowledge that all humans are sinners. They also pray for redemption–for themselves and others.
Don’t fall into the trap that because all men are sinners, sin is OK.
And the comment Obama made about the “obscure passage in Romans”, should make everyone sit up and take notice. There are many passages in Scripture that one may consider obscure, but they are just as important and relevant as any and all other passages. Otherwise they wouldn’t be there! You can’t pick and choose Scripture and twist it just because you want to justify a lie.
Sorry, Obama’s “church” is not your typical “church”, it appears to be more of a cult and Wright does not to me sound like a man called by God.
God is not a distinguisher of color, race or gender nor would promote a hate monger like Farrakhan.
When I heard the audio of Wright you had on here, it sounded like a voice coming out of the gates of hell.
To twist the gospels as what appears is being done is obvious. You can not have the true spirit of God and believe in abortion, partial birth abortion and gay rights, period!
lgm,
The verse you refer to about divorce actually states that it is acceptable in one instance: adultery. I don’t know enough about the McCain’s to say if that was the case, but the Sermon on the Mount says it’s ok.
But also remember that the appearance of virtues does not mean one is virtuous. A. Hitler was monogomous. He also refrained from excessive alcohol and preached virtues. Was he virtuous?
Whereas he doesn’t think that We, The People, in consultation with our own conscience and our families should have the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense, but only for hunting and sporting purposes.
So in his mind it is a woman’s right, not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence or the Federalist papers to make a private decision about killing an innocent, unborn child because it is convenient or may save her life without interference from Washington, however, it is should not my right as a citizen, although protected by the Constitution, to defend and possibly save the lives of my wife, children, other citizens or myself because he wants Washington to interfere and essentially remove that right.
Killing unborn children without Washington interference = Good and Christian.
Defending fully developed lives against criminals without Washington interference = bad and not Christian.
What an utter jack…, er, you know.
I think injecting a sentiment from the church lady would be appropriate here:
“Well, isn’t that special?”
(Didn’t CL also say “how conveeenient?”)
….”Pray to Jesus every night, and try to go to church as much as I can when they are not working me. Used to go quite often”….
What the heck is that!!! This is a grown man who says he is a Christian and makes excuses that sound as if they came from an eight year old. Somebody else keeps him from attending church? “…THEY are working me”? Who is going to run the country, Obama or THEY? You would think that the future leader of the free world would be telling THEY that he wants one hour each Sunday set aside to worship, no matter where he is at or what THEY have planned for him. THEY sound pretty tough, working little Barry like a field hand at harvest time.
The United Church of Christ is not be confused with the Church of Christ – Big difference.
The women who have abortions made their choice to have unprotected sex. That’s their right. Now they want to have a choice on what to do with the consequences of their first choice – that’s not their right since it involves the destruction of another life. It is called murder no matter how you parse the words.
Homosexuality is condemned in both the Old and New Testament in no uncertain terms. And yes, Christians are to judge sin when they see it.
What we’re not called to do is judge what motivates a sinner and whether one is saved or not. That’s between that person and God.
A Christian can try and ascertain whether a person knows what it takes to be saved and witness to that person if they’ve not heard the gospel message or are ignorant of its meaning. If that person rejects the message, we’re not to force it on them but “shake the dust” off our sandals and move on. While doing so, that witness may have planted a seed or watered where another planted. The Holy Spirit will do the heavy lifting.
Let’s face it, we’re all sinners. The only difference between a sinner and a saint is one is saved and the other ain’t.
Obamination! I may not want to vote for McCain, but Obama gives me no choice (neither does Hillary).
“I think that the bottom line is that in the end, I think women, in consultation with their pastors, and their doctors, and their family, are in a better position to make these decisions than some bureaucrat in Washington. That’s my view,”
However, all other decisions should be left up to bureaucrats in Washington, and I’m just the guy to take THOSE
If he picks and chooses from such a Sacred Document as the Scriptures, should there not be ample concern what he picks and chooses from the US Constitution?
God will ultimately judge him on matters of His Word and Obamas life. But, it is very important that we judge him NOW on the basis of his politics, ideology, values, and interpretations of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights!
