Congress to Chertie: We need more incompetents of color!
It’s a match-up of morons vs. moron. Grievance-mongering minorities in Congress lambasted DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff today for not hiring more womyn and People of Color. The incompetents and cronies in upper management at the beleaguered DHS aren’t diverse enough, they thundered.
Comedy gold. Where are the black, brown, red, and yellow faces? Where are the gyno-bureaucrats? And why don’t we have more undocumented DHS employees?!?! (Okay, kidding about that last one. But really, it won’t be long.)
The Washington Times has the report (hat tip – reader Anton):
Two congressmen today said the Department of Homeland Security needs more diversity to be effective, and scolded Secretary Michael Chertoff for not bringing any black or female staffers to his appearance before the House Judiciary Committee.
In what appeared to be a sort of diversity sting operation, Rep. Robert C. Scott lead off his questions to Mr. Chertoff by demanding the secretary’s staff stand up to be scrutinized. Minutes later, during his own questions, Rep. Melvin Watt said the point was to prove that none of the 10 staffers who stood met his definition of diverse.
“You brought 10 staff people with you, all white males. I know this hearing is not about diversity of the staff, but I hope you’ve got more diversity in your staff than you’ve reflected here in the people you’ve brought with you,” Mr. Watt, North Carolina Democrat, told the secretary.
The hearing was called to examine the administration’s record on border security and immigration, but Mr. Watt said diversity mattered for law enforcement. Both Mr. Watt and Mr. Scott are black.
Mr. Chertoff responded that Mr. Watt shouldn’t judge his staff based purely on appearance.
Yes, the very same liberals who scream when law enforcement wants to profile people to protect national security are leaning on Chertoff to do what? Engage in racial and gender profiling so Chertoff can surround himself with a rainbow of sycophants.
Put your beverages down before reading the WashTimes’ concluding paragraphs:
Mr. Chertoff responded that Mr. Watt shouldn’t judge his staff based purely on appearance.
“I wouldn’t assume that the ethnic background of everybody behind me is self-evident,” he said.
But Mr. Watt took that as a challenge, telling him, “I think I know an African American when I see one.” He asked any of the staffers was black or a woman stand up, then demanding the record reflect “that nobody stood up to volunteer in either one of those categories.”
“If we’re going to do law enforcement in this country, we need to understand that there’s an element of diversity in our country that I don’t see represented here,” Mr. Watt said.
Pardon me, though, for not fully sympathizing with Chertoff.

At least the “mentally challenged” are not underrepresented in the Democrat Party! I wonder how many have made it in to the DHS?

Chertoff blew an opportunity – “Stand up if you’re an American” ..that’s all that should matter.
Oh, and going by the same logic used by certain members of Congress, I presume Islamic extremist terrorists should have equal representation in the DHS hierarchy too.
The sad thing is this idiot thinks he is smart. He is applauded all day by even dumber people. You rarely see such idiocy except in Government and Government supported organizations. When all is said and done, it will be revealed that only Carter had a lower IQ than Bush. Unless McCain is elected. And Chertoff has the IQ of a head of lettuce.
The DHS under Chertoff has attempted to do too many things and none of them well. When DHS expanded and swallowed FEMA, accountability and responsibility totally vanished. Tax $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ thrown down a rat hole with nothing positive to show for it.
TSA is a bad joke and ICE is totally dysfunctional. All at a staggering cost to taxpayers and inept beyond belief!
Congressional oversight is non existent
as the continued operation of bloated and ineffective Government Departments and Agencies keeps unemployment rates low, I reckon.
I believe I would feel safer if Chertoff was out in the Private Sector looking for a job and DHS was streamlined and broken out into smaller Individual Departments and Agencies that were more immediately accountable for results and function.
Just my take on it.
Under normal circumstances, I would argue that those 10 white men deserved those jobs as the most qualified and the most talented. But given that we’re talking about DHS, I find it hard to take that position. God only knows why Chertie hired them.

Arrimative Action had it’s day and time. It was probably needed for a while, if for nothing else, to make people who otherwise wouldn’t have had the exposure to racial diversity more aware of all people’s talents.
However, that time is past. I read a letter in the Air Force Times one time on this subject where the writer stated, “with the opportunities in education available to all people, all one needs is a little ambition and gumption to get ahead.”As a person who has input as to the members who are recruited into our section, when a recruiter calls and says they have someone interested in getting into the communications field, I have one question–”What are their ASVAB scores?” I don’t care is the person is purple, orange, black, or blue. We’ve even been know to accept Alabama fans!
This is why I could never go into politics. To manage not to unload on this grandstanding racist would be beyond my diplomatic abilities.
Take a look at maps of Watt’s district and Scott’s district and tell me that these idiots could have been elected in a fair race.

Reason … “I brought the staff members that are involved in what I was told was the subject of this hearing … obviously I was wrong and therefore I do not have the correct staff members with me to discuss hiring practices in the Department … see you another time” …
It is time that people called before these stupid overbearing self-centered committee members call their bluffs and rebel by simply getting up and walking out when they start this crap …
Why are these people so concerned about diversity? I’m sure if you researched many professions you would find a disproportionate ratio in sexes and/or races. I work in the pharmaceutical industry on the clinical research side and there are more women in this field than there are men. Does that my company is discriminating against males? Sure. If diversity is on the agenda. However, there can be another explanation for it… This particular field of interest has more RNs – who are more likely to be women. Once they leave the clinical setting of a hospital they move over to clinical research in the pharmaceutical industry. It’s a no-brainer. Additionally, most companies tend to hire folks who are qualified to do the job. Call me crazy but I think that’s where the DHS needs to keep its focus.
Disclaimer: that isn’t to say that people of color aren’t qualified – the point is forget about race and gender and just hire the person who is most qualified to do the job. Period.
My answer: They are easier to spot than an a**hole, until he opens his mouth.

And those two Border Patrol Agents, Campeon and Ramos I believe are their names, are still imprisoned for 11 and 12 years for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler in the butt – and picking up their shell casings.

By all means let’s replace the already incompetent staff advising the ineffective and totally clueless Director of Homeland Insecurity. I am sure we can find many unqualified people of various protected classes in society to help make this waste of taxpayer’s stolen money even a bigger failure than it already is. They will be probably even more incompetent corrupt, but at least the group picture will make the race hustlers in this country happy.

Few barriers to entry exist in the grievance industry. All one needs is a law degree to open shop. Success doesn’t require legitimate claims, evidence or facts–only a pusillanimous opponent.

So what is new? These are the same congresscritters that screamed at the top of their voices that banks and lending institutions were not loaning enough money to minorities, and that action would be taken if they did not change their policies. So policies were changed to allow loans to be made to people who had proven by their credit histories to be unable to manage their finances. When all of these bad loans, mandated by Congress, were defaulted on, these same fools blamed the banks for doing what they told them to do, and want us taxpayers to bail them out. Ship of Fools. If Chertoff wanted to, and I have my doubts about that, he could never satisfy them. Disclamer. I have the rotten luck to be represented by Bobby Scott.
Congress doesn’t meet my “definition of” competent. I haven’t seen them doing anything to fix that.

30 pcs of silver sounds like you have a pretty cool profession. My son is a documented drug pusher (certified pharmacy technician) and we hope he will return to college to finish up his pharmacist degree in another semester or two. He would like to go into research someday too.
One reason I don’t mine working for the Air Force again as a civilian is I get to make a difference in an atmosphere I have been around one way or another my entire life. Once any of us feel we are no longer making a difference or care enough it is time to go some place else. Keep those life saving drugs coming I am only above ground thanks to Cortisone Acetate. As I always say a steroid a day keeps the coroner away.

No doubt the relatives/friends of Chertoff’s associates, or high end Bush supporters/friends, who, because of their connections, got cushy, well paid government jobs where they essentially do nothing of relative use.
Much easier than holding jobs in the private sector where they would probably get lower pay and benefits, and actually have to know something about your job and work at it.
Having connections that can get you these jobs is what the political spoils system is all about – no actual experience or intelligence is necessarily required.
Every day I ponder the fact that we haven’t been hit big time given the stupidity of forming DHS and its leadership – we have been lucky.

30 Pieces: The DHS does not exist to serve “our Fellow Man”, it is tasked with Defending America and Protecting Americans. Period. Never mind enforcement of existing Laws. Self serving Judges Legislate from the bench!
Congress is a pack of self serving dogs that feed at the Public Trough and lost focus as Americans when they became Professional Politicians.
Chertoff is a Political Hack, as are the great majority of Congress and the Senate.
GWB is retired on active duty and ALL will be paid handsomely for their (SELF) Service as they retire.
I reckon that as some of the Founding Fathers were slave owners, we are paying the piper now on grand scale.
However Equal Opportunity should be based on MERIT, not skin color. EO needs to go away on the basis of skin color or ethinicity.
In 1948 the American Armed Forces desegregated. In the 60s America needed Civil Rights Legislation to “get it right”.
I fear for America’s future but believe that regardless, Americans will accept none of this nonsense, have another Tea Party in the near future and insist on Change, not what Obama is selling but a return to the Values that America has always held dear. Repel boarders and enact Term Limit Laws to keep Government both responsible, accountable
and honorable in pursuit of their Tasks.
