Ray Nagin is a “vagina-friendly” mayor

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 7, 2008 06:50 PM

I am sure Gloria Steinem approves. Via New Orleans’ 99.5FM:

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin says he is “a vagina-friendly Mayor.”

Nagin made the remark while welcoming the author of the Vagina Monlogues, Eve Ensler to the city to promote the “V-Day” celebration in New Orleans next month.

Mayor Nagin began his comments at the news conference by saying, “How am I gonna stand up and say, I’m a ‘vagina-friendly’ Mayor to these cameras after ‘Chocolate City’ and some of the other stuff that I’ve done. But you know what? I’m in.”

I really, really don’t want to imagine the photo-ops.

I would like to say now, for the record: I have never, not once, donated a thin dime to NOLA.

I’ve supported a lot of charities, sometimes for a lot of money (to me). But “N’orlans?”

Not a penny. Not a farthing. Not a scintilla of scrap metal.

    Why? Two reasons.

One is Mayor Chocolate, and the other is Senator Imbecile.

I’m not sure which way the causality goes. Is it that the citizens of NOLA and LA are too stupid to pity, given who they vote for, or is that their elected officials are so repugnant that I can’t find the will to donate?

    Net results are the same.

New Orleans and Louisiana have now received, with the blessings of the big dubya, funding akin to the Manhattan Project. The vast majority of that money has been squandered (pinch me, I’m so surprised I must be dreaming), and now we’re told that the trailers are mold-traps.

TRAILERS? For the per-capita dollar we spent on that rat-hole, those people could and should be living in 2,300ft2 furnished homes.

I’m sure that Mayor Vagina and his beloved Senator Zygote have drunk their fill at the trough filled with our tax dollars.

The people? Let them eat king cakes…

Then again: if they continue to vote in maggots, they have to expect flies.

I’m not above making jokes at a politician’s expense but would you prefer a a mayor who wasn’t “vagina friendly”?

The fact that he described himself in that way is a good thing for the city. Sexual health, rape, and female sexuality shouldn’t have to be taboos. I just wish the message hadn’t come from someone who has a history of wacky quotes.

All right – I knew we could count on Rusty to defend School Bus Nagin.

Rusty – I would prefer a mayor or other elected politician to exhibit a little professionalism, a little class, and a little tact. I don’t care if he’s blow-up doll-friendly, but when he’s speaking and acting as a public official it’s not his place to make those kinds of statements.

No one is talking about sexual health, rape, or female sexuality, so please don’t change the subject.

He was referring to The Vagina Monologues. Which is about sexual health, rape, and female sexuality. No subject change necessary.

And why would you compare vaginas with blow-up dolls? That says a whole lot more about you than it does about Mayor Nagin.

Why are vaginas unprofessional? He was referring to a specific play that has some “unwholesome” qualities, but is for the general good. Unless you don’t think women should control their own sexuality, of course.

What Mayor Nagin said was undeniably funny. It doesn’t make him wrong.

Before his election in 2002, Nagin had never held public office; he was a vice president and general manager at Cox Communications, a cable company and subsidiary of Cox Enterprises. Several news sources, including BBC News and numerous blogs and editorials have stated that Nagin was a registered Republican for most of his adult life, switching to the Democratic Party shortly before seeking office. In a January 13, 2006 interview on the Tavis Smiley show, Nagin himself denied these rumors, stating that he “never was a Republican” and that he has been a “life-long Democrat”, and several of the news sources reporting that he was a Republican have since issued retractions. He did give contributions periodically to candidates of both parties, including Representative Billy Tauzin in 1999 and 2000, as well as Democratic Senators John Breaux and J. Bennett Johnston, Jr. earlier in the decade.

Yeah, the monologue celebrating an adult woman seducing raping the 13-year-old girl, that’s something all right.

Anyway. If the celebritwits doing the V-thing in New Orleands put half the time, money, and effort into helping people rebuild as they are putting into being vulgar and disgusting….but then what would they complain about?
