Special report: Tracing the Left’s escalating war on military recruiters
Scroll down for updates…
Ideas have consequences. Inaction has consequences. For the past several years, I’ve chronicled the Left’s escalating war on military recruiters–and the apathetic, weak-kneed response to it. In Unhinged, I devoted a sub-section of my chapter “They Don’t Support Our Troops” to the organized campaign of harassment against recruitment offices on college campuses nationwide. The anti-recruiter thugs have thrived thanks to a combination of public indifference, law enforcement fecklessness, and left-wing ideological apologism. As you may recall, I have personal experience with the anti-recruiter propagandists, who lie through their teeth, exploit media sympathy, and harbor nothing but raw hatred for the men and women who protect and defend their rights to bitch and moan.
Many observers wanted to shut out any possibility that yesterday’s bombing at the Times Square recruitment center was ideologically motivated.
But will any on the left and in the Democrat Party raise their voices–loudly and clearly–to condemn the ongoing, militant anti-recruiter campaign?
Will they urge the Code Pinkos and their ilk to halt their intimidation and obstruction efforts?
Or will they continue to sit silently and attempt to downplay yesterday’s bombing as an isolated incident– instead of the all-too-predictable symptom of reckless tolerance for dangerous “peace”-peddlers skating on the edge of sedition?
Context matters. Drawing on my past reporting and blogging, here is a brief history of the anti-military recruitment movement’s mounting acts of vandalism and violence (which is by no means comprehensive and which I’ll continue to amend as commenters and readers remind me of other incidents). Let the apologists and pooh-poohers delude themselves into believing that the Times Square bombing was a “lone” act. The facts speak for themselves:
March 2003. Ithaca, NY anti-war zealots plot to pour blood on the walls of a recruiting center. On St. Patrick’s Day, wielding cups of their own blood, they entered a Lansing military recruitment office and splashed the human blood over recruiting posters, military cutouts and the American flag. After one mistrial, Daniel Burns, Peter De Mott, Clare Grady and Teresa Grady were convicted in 2005 on two misdemeanor-level counts of trespassing and damaging federal property. All but Burns have been released from prison. The Lansing office had suffered two other attacks involving Molotov cocktails.
January 20, 2005. At Seattle Central Community College, Army recruiter Sgt. Jeff Due and his colleague, Sgt. 1st Class Douglas Washington were surrounded by an angry mob of 500 anti-war students. The recruiters’ table was destroyed; their handouts torn apart. The protesters threw water bottles and newspapers at the soldiers, shouted profanities, and wielded their fists. The far Left Students Against War had been agitating to kick the recruiters off campus. The college administration refused to punish the mobsters.
Jan. 31, 2005. A little more than a week after the Seattle ambush, a shockingly fair and rare report from the NYT disclosed that recruiters in Manhattan reported that a door to their office had been beaten in. Anarchist symbols were scrawled in red paint on the building. On the same day, NY police collared a young Manhattan College junior and charged him with throwing a burning rag into an Army recruiting station and ruining the door locks with super glue. The radical student “was caught carrying a handwritten note declaring that a ‘wave of violence’ would occur throughout the Northeast on January 31, aimed at the ‘military industrial complex’ in response to American military actions.’”
Feb. 1, 2005. At a South Toledo, Ohio recruitment center, unhinged protesters hurled manure all over the building. They broke windows and sprayed vulgar grafitti — “War is Shit” — on office property. An e-mail sent to local TV station WTOL-TV by a group calling itself, yes, “War is Shit,” claimed responsibility for the property destruction. The crapweasels were never caught. WTOL reported:
“If they don’t like this country that much they should do it the right way by changing with votes. Shouldn’t do it with actions like that,” said Steve Klostermeier, a bystander. Mike Gibson agreed, saying, “I think it’s terrible. I think they’re blaming the people who fought to give them the right to do stuff like that. They should have the courage to stand up and say it rather than doing stuff like that.”
Mid-Feb. 2005. 20-year-old anti-war goon Brendan Walsh is sentenced to five years in federal prison for hurling a Molotov cocktail through the window of a Vestal, NY military recruitment office in 2003. Celebrated as a hero to the anti-war/anarchist movement, he pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to damage or destroy a building by arson and was expected to be released to a halfway house last month.
March 2005. In East Orange, NJ, young anti-military protesters shattered the windows of an Army recruitment station and a neighboring Navy office. At City College in New York, a campus secretary who participated in a student demonstration against recruiters reportedly assaulted a police officer trying to arrest unruly protesters. She was charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and obstructing governmental administration. At the same demonstration, police arrested students Justin Rodriguez and Nicholas Bergreen. They charged Rodriguez with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. They charged Bergreen with assaulting a police officer. I obtained their mugshots via the NYPD:

Carol Lang.

Justin Rodriguez and Nicholas Bergreen.
March/April 2005. Anti-war extremists at the Bronx Community College in NY shut down several military recruitment sessions–at least three times over a month’s span. A socialist student participant crowed (via “The Internationalist”) that the recruiters were hounded off campus to chants of “Military recruiters off campus now!” and “I’m not going to die for their army!:”
Opposition to military recruiters at Bronx Community College is building, and last Thursday (March 17) students were able to drive them out of the BCC Cafeteria. The Revolutionary Reconstruction Club was distributing a leaflet building for the protest when two recruiters in Army fatigues walked in. They were clearly shaken by the signs and leaflets denouncing the recruiters, the imperialist murder machine they serve, and the dirty colonial war in Iraq.
Things quickly heated up. We started chanting “Military recruiters off campus now!” Many students who were looking on took up this chant. It spread inside the cafeteria. More and more students yelled out their own angry comments, like “I’m not going to die for their army.” Our chants echoed through the building, interspersed with hard-hitting speeches against the war in Iraq. Among those joining us were students with close relatives who had been snared into enlisting.
The recruiters were unable to go about their deadly “business” of preying on students there. They kept making calls on their cell phones, evidently seeking orders. At one point they were escorted down the hall by campus cops. Finally, our protest drove the recruiters out of the building. As students yelled “Out, out, out!” they disappeared.
At UC Santa Cruz, “peace” thugs drove recruiters off campus after an hour-long demonstration of shouting and window-banging. It was a hint of more aggressive behavior to come as a result of zero consequences.
May 2005. SF Bay Area students brought a career fair at San Francisco State University to a standstill over the presence of military recruiters. Congregating at Malcolm X Plaza, they swarmed the booths of the US Army Corps of Engineers and the USAF. In Wisconsin, an Air Force ROTC information day was canceled due to threats by the University of Wisconsin-Madison chapter of Stop the War.
The Air Force Reverse Officer Training Corps (ROTC) annual information day on April 30 was cancelled. At the information day, students were “to learn about Air Force scholarship opportunities and Air Force careers” and receive free lunch, according to an e-mail sent out to the student body. According to Air Force ROTC representatives on campus, the event was cancelled due to the threat of a protest called by the University of Wisconsin-Madison group Stop the War.
The protest was one of a series of actions that Stop the War has been taking against military recruitment and the ongoing occupation of Iraq…On Saturday at Union South, the building on campus where the event was scheduled to take place, about 20 protesters showed up to celebrate the cancellation of the recruiting session and build on this success by developing a movement that can get the military off UW’s campus for good.
April 2006. The infamous UC Santa Cruz ambush on military recruiters takes place. The thugs gloated about throwing a rock at the recruiters’ SUV. Recruiters, who had been similarly driven off campus the previous year, reported slashed tires. One employee at the career center
was injured in the melee. Photos here. The capitulationist campus administration had known in advance about the ambush plans and did nothing. Instead of condemning the speech-stifling lawlessness of the anti-war mob, unhinged sympathizers attacked me for publishing the public contact information of the thugs’ propaganda officers and also outrageoulsy blamed me for the subsequent suicide of the troubled UC Santa Cruz president, Denice Denton. They continue to lie about what happened.
Just a few weeks later, more anti-recruitment attacks break out. A reader alerted me to this vandalism at UNC Chapel-Hill and sent photos taken by her son, an ROTC cadet on campus:

Then, in Minnesota, via the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

S-T caption: Three people were apprehended this afternoon by police after pouring paint on an Army recruiting station near the University of Minnesota during an antiwar demonstration.
December 2006. Lawrence, Kansas anarchists cripple a recruitment center. They crow:
Keeping the Pressure On: Lawrence anarchists fight against Military Recruitment
by Dave Strano, Kansas Mutual Aid
December 22, 2006During a counter-recruitment protest outside of the Lawrence Army/Navy Career Center on Saturday December 16th, the small group of us that had showed up were confronted by a Naval officer. The sailor introduced himself as being an acting supervisor of U.S. Naval recruitment for the Kansas and Missouri area. He proceeded to have a 45 minute discussion with us about our counter-recruitment efforts, police enforcement, life in the military, and the war in Iraq.
His words conveyed a clear message: Of all the recruitment centers under his command, the one in Lawrence was facing major trouble from protesters and dissidents. “Over the last four years,” he said, “it has been a living hell here… We’ve had to install bomb-proof glass, security alarms and panic buttons, internal security cameras… I’ve had my tires slashed and car painted on… People come inside our center and vandalize it in front of us… We’ve had to shut down on more than one occasion because of you people blocking our doors… Our offices get vandalized at least once a month… We’ve had to replace our locks more times than I can count… Nearly our entire recruitment budget for this year has gone to security.”
His intentions for saying this weren’t clear, but he certainly was who he said he was; his interaction with the other recruiters there confirmed this. His words ended with a plea for us to stop. Almost an order coming from a failing commander: Leave us alone.
The anarchist movement in Lawrence, Kansas has been working against local military recruiting efforts since before the invasion of Iraq. For four years, various actions have occurred outside and inside the military recruiting centers, on the campus of the University of Kansas, and outside and inside Lawrence’s high schools. In those four years, a variety of disruptive tactics have been used. These tactics have ranged from lockdowns to office occupations, to vocal sign holding to wheatepasting and other more direct actions.
Jan. 2007. Anti-war radicals lay siege to the US Capitol and smash windows at the recruitment center on 14th and L.
Pittsburgh anti-recruiter organizers shut down a military recruitment station for a whole day. They brandish hateful signs like this:
Their boastful report:
Pittsburgh Organizing Group successfully disrupted the military recruitment machine in Pittsburgh yet again. The recruitment center shut down for the entire day. Shortly before 11am, having already accomplished their major goal, 40 protesters gathered outside for a two hour picket designed to keep anti-war resistance front and center in the public eye. Signs such as, “There’s Dead, and Then There’s ARMY DEAD,” “Honk for Peace,” “Recruiters Are Child Predators,” “Those Who Call the Shots Aren’t Among the Shot,” “Let the Rich Fight Their Own Wars,” and “Resist, Don’t Enlist” resulted in a plethora of horn honks and supportive gestures from passing drivers.
One difference about this picket, as compared to past ones, was the call for people to bring whipped cream pies (because recruiters should be afraid to show their faces). A number of individuals, young and old, responded to the call and showed up, pie in hand.
During this 50th action of POG’s campaign, the recruitment center door was pied and spray painted with the all-too-true slogan “we lie.” One protester was arrested away from the event, supposedly for the painting of the door. We are following the case and will do whatever possible to help with fines or legal support. The truth is, this is a broad-based, long term campaign to oppose recruitment in the city and arrests are inevitable. Besides donating for legal support, committing to take personal action against militarism is the best way to honor and support those putting themselves on the line.
March 2007. A Milwaukee recruitment station is vandalized as part of nationwide protests on the fourth anniversary of the Iraq war(hat tip - Heather):
A group of Iraq War protesters vandalized the windows at the Army recruitment center on Oakland Avenue near the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee campus on Monday night. Milwaukee police had six people in custody and were questioning several more potential suspects. Witnesses say they saw anywhere from 20 to 40 people dressed in black flee from the scene. A Web site posting on Monday said that the act was a protest against the U.S. involvement in Iraq, in connection with Tuesday’s fourth anniversary of the war. Torches made from chair legs, fireworks, and black flags were strewn in front of the Army recruitment center. Windows were broken, but there didn’t appear to be much damage to the inside of the building. One witness heard loud sounds and then saw a large group fleeing the scene. “A group of kids were running down the road, about 20 kids or so, just screaming and wearing all black and faces covered, and they had crowbars and baseball bats,” said Dan Riess.
July 2007. A Bremerton, WA teenager is charged with felony for slashing 42 government tires of Army recruiting vehicles in retaliation of the Iraq war:
Jason C. Chavez, currently a student at a Colorado college, was charged with first degree malicious mischief for causing more than $4,200 worth of damage to 13 government service vehicles that were parked in front of the U.S. Army recruiting business in Silverdale.
Vandalism to military recruiting offices and equipment is not uncommon, but Lt. Col. Kenneth Swanson, Seattle Army Recruiting Battalion Commander, said he was surprised by the magnitude of Chavez’s destruction.
“That’s not a protest, that’s an act of anarchy,” he said. “I hope Mr. Chavez gets his justice due under the Constitution that is protected by the U.S. Army.”
Just after midnight on July 29 Chavez was seen slashing tires in the parking lot along the 2800 block of Bucklin Hill Road. Witnesses called 911 to report a man dressed in black was slashing tires in front of the Army recruiting office with a knife.
When deputies arrived Chavez ran, then stopped near the Staples building across the parking lot and put his hands in the air. At the time he dropped a butterfly knife from his pocket, according to Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office reports.
When deputies arrested him, Chavez asked “is this the time where I can confess?” He proceeded to tell deputies he specifically identified government cars and slashed the tires because he “hated the military and the government and the war we were in,” according to reports.
A counterrecruitment organizer chastised Chavez not for his destructive actions, but for drinking alcohol while he committed them.
In Maryland, anti-recruiter vandals smashed a Rockville Air Force recruitment center:
In an attempt to discover how a bunch of murdering cowards like the US Air Force enjoy finding themselves on the other end of some flying projectiles for a change, at around 3:00 AM this morning an autonomous cell of the Red & Anarchist Action Network (RAAN) used bricks and other common household items to smash the shit out of the Air Force recruiting center in Rockville, Maryland. Do we even need to explain the motivation for our actions? A shout out to our comrades from the Borf: Revolution or Bust Faction (BORFROBF), who late last year gave a similar treatment to the military recruitment center in Silver Spring. Consider this a modest response to your “dare to those here in the heart of the imperial beast to step it up”. In suburbs so hollow, may the echo of our actions be long and loud! Big ups to all those out there who claim RAAN. Fuck them haters who don’t realize we are but a few of the millions of ant’s bites which can topple this elephant once and for all. No war but class war, communism or bust! IT’S A DO OR DIE SITUATION - WE WILL BE INVINCIBLE!
And in Lufkin, TX, , Army and Navy recruiters were the targets of vandals who keyed their cars, smashed their windows, and shot at their vehicles with “with what appeared to be a high-powered pellet gun.”
August 2007. In New England: Suspect charged with leaving fake bomb at recruitment office.
A city man was arrested Tuesday on charges that he twice left a fake bomb package at a military recruitment office, police said. Francis Monaghan, 68, was charged with two counts of first-degree breach of peace, a felony, and two counts of reckless endangerment, said Lt. Sean Cooney. “He made certain incriminating statements,” Cooney said. “He did express some anti-war feelings. We think that was at least partially his motivation.” Monaghan was being held on $100,000 bond. An envelope slipped into the recruiting station mailbox on Bedford Street Monday morning contained batteries and other “bomb-making components,” Cooney said. The package was nearly identical to an envelope left at the same U.S. Army/U.S. Air Force station last months, police said. Both bore “unusual writing” and were placed in the station’s mailbox, Cooney said.
September 2007. The far Left group, Iraq Veterans Against the War calls on followers to commit fraud to interfere with military recruiters. The sabotage action was part of a larger, coordinated campaign with the International ANSWER racket to obstruct military recruitment centers in Washington and across the country. Other socialist partners in crime:

Anti-war punks shut down the Times Square recruitment station:
The New York chapter of the War Resisters League kicked off a week of actions against military recruitment in New York by shutting down the Times Square Recruiting Station Saturday morning. Three members of the WRL were arrested, but the recruiting station remained closed for the rest of the day as the WRL maintained its presence there, joined in the afternoon by the Rude Mechanical Orchestra. The three arrestees were charged with disorderly conduct and released four hours later.
October 2007. Code Pink defaces the Berkeley recruitment center, branding our troops as assassins:
Note the Code Pink anti-recruitment manifesto’s endorsement of “creative, forceful tactics” against the troops:
There are generally two distinct types of counter-recruitment campaigns being waged in communities across the country. The first is a popular, politically charged campaign spearheaded by a visceral reaction to the lies of military recruiters. This approach calls for creative, forceful tactics to confront a murderous, imperial, military machine that recruits youth like cannon fodder. Thousands of activists have responded to this call by forcefully demonstrating at recruitment centers, community events, and high schools where military recruiters often lie and deceive. CODEPINK and Raging Grannies have occupied recruitment centers and student groups have tossed recruiters off campus, grabbing headlines while changing public opinion.
There is a second front in the war on recruitment that embraces an entirely different approach aimed at persuading high school officials to reverse policies that encourage military recruitment. This approach leaves politics aside and instead focuses on student privacy issues. Activists engaged in this line of counter-recruitment endeavor to convince mainstream educational careerists to change their policies regarding several military programs operating in the schools. They work to confront the military’s most successful recruiting tool, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, (ASVAB).
They convince school officials to aggressively pursue the “opt-out” provision of the No Child Left Behind Act and they help change policies to restrain the movement of military recruiters on high school campuses. These approaches certainly aren’t mutually exclusive. Resistance may involve writing a letter in the morning and making a phone call or two, then hitting the streets in the afternoon with a clenched fist and fits of rage.
It’s all good.
Jan. 2008. The Code Pink/City Council siege at the Berkeley recruiting center reaches a boiling point. Protesters chain themselves to the station to shut it down and vandalize the windows with bloody handprints (via Zombie):
A rare national backlash forces the council to back down on some of their Pinko-propping measures, but the panel refused to apologize and anti-troop bigotry is unabated–even this week.

Update: Latest developments have authorities investigating “anarchist-types” who crossed the Canadian border and dismissing links between the bombing and mailings to House Democrats.
Update: Counterrecruiters plan protest in Tacoma on March 15.
Update: An anti-war judge prevents foster teenager from joining the Marines. Unbelievable:
Shawn Sage long dreamed of joining the military, and watching “Full Metal Jacket” last year really sold him on becoming a Marine.
But last fall, a Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner dashed the foster teen’s hopes of early enlistment for Marine sniper duty, plus a potential $10,000 signing bonus.
In denying the Royal High School student delayed entry into the Marine Corps, Children’s Court Commissioner Marilyn Mackel reportedly told Sage and a recruiter that she didn’t approve of the Iraq war, didn’t trust recruiters and didn’t support the military.
“The judge said she didn’t support the Iraq war for any reason why we’re over there,” said Marine recruiter Sgt. Guillermo Medrano of the Simi Valley USMC recruiting office.
“She just said all recruiters were the same - that they `all tap dance and tell me what I want to hear.’ She said she didn’t want him to fight in it.”
Sage, 17, said he begged for Mackel’s permission.
“Foster children shouldn’t be denied (an) ability to enlist in the service just because they’re foster kids,” he said. “Foster kids shouldn’t have to go to court to gain approval to serve one’s country.”

Don’t forget Milwaukee, although I’m loathe to remind people we’ve got ‘em here, too.
Thanks. I’ll add that. I’m sure I’ll be adding a lot more.
There’s a protest outside the military recruiters offices in Tacoma, WA on March 15th (next Saturday). Clink on my name to go to my blog to find out more. I’ll try to keep it up to date.
Sorry, link doesn’t seem to work. If it’s ok with the Michelle (she can delete the link) the info about Tacoma next Saturday is at http://5views.com
EXCELLENT
I see the antiwar terrorist in NY City sent the Democrats a progress report: “Thanks for the help with FISA. We did it!” Or it might as well have said that.
I’m no lawyer, but it seems that there is a federal jurisdiction issue that is not being enforced here. Are recruitment offices not federal offices? And are there not laws about obstructing federal offices? And vandalizing them? Why are the recruiters relying on, or being forced to rely upon the Berkeley Police, for example? And can’t the Federal Government sue to recover costs related to vandalism? I’d love to see someone with some legal expertise in this area address this. What is going on is way over the line of a right to peaceably assemble and petition to redress grievances. No?
It will end when the authorities decide to actually enforce laws that the rest of American society live by.
To steal a phrase from the Left: They have created a climate of hatred of Military recruters.
By the left’s logic any damage or injury that results from this climate is the responsibility of those who created it.
The initial incident in Ms. Malkin’s report is from March 2003, 5 years ago this month. In all that time, has anything been done? NO!!!!! Why would anybody think that anything will be done? Do you really think any law enforcement officials anywhere are going to do anything if they haven’t already? If so, what could you possibly base that belief on? Certainly not on anything that has taken place with the rest of us here in the real world.
The simple truth is that gov’t officials are scared, do not care or are sympathetic. If we want this to end, it will take standing up and meeting these people in the streets. It will mean us risking our own safety and comfort. I’m ready to go to jail to cave in some skulls.
And don’t lecture me about “stooping to their level” or other nonsense. There is no moral equivalence between fighting to bring down the country and fighting to preserve it.
If the Marines and the Military are the blood thirsty baby killers like all these protesters claim, why don’t they come out of the recruitment offices and gun these protesters down? Why do they turn the other cheek and exercise such restraint when faced people who are clearly hostile to their existence? Why do the Marines and the Military continue to fight and die for the freedoms that these crazies enjoy?
What do they think will happen if they set a bomb off at, oh I don’t know, a Cuban or Venezuelan army recruitment station? Singing kumbaya while smoking weed will only get you so far. In fact, the only reason such tactics can get you anywhere is because of all the work the military has done to ensure every citizens freedoms.
These protesters are clearly crazy and need to have their heads examined.
Oh, but Michelle, don’t you know that all of these attacks are being orchestrated by Bush and his neocon conspirators to make the peaceful leftists look bad during an election year?
Honest, I read it at the Daily Kos!
Ent, I looked at Kos too and couldn’t believe the idiocy over there.
I am sick to death of the silence of our president and governors of these states. If there is some act of nature or God forbid terrorist attack, the first people that are called out is the NG and the military.
I truly do worry about the direction our country is taking. Bush is an idiot dancing a jig yesterday but nothing but silence on the Times Square incident. Silence from Botox Nancy and her gang. Interesting that dims got a heads up. Wondering if they even mentioned it to anyone. Here in DC on the Fox affiliate at 10 last night they mentioned the letters but said they didn’t contain anthrax. What’s that go to do with anything?
Officials don’t think there is a connection between the blast at Times Square and the letters to Congress. Apparently they have questioned the man who sent the letters and he denied any connection to the bombing. So, of course, he didn’t do it. But they have not told us what he meant by “We Did It.” (Perhaps he is just a Dora the Explorer fan.)
You can read about the many strange coincidences here:
Letters, Times Square blast just a coincidence?
Here are some of the key parts of the news article:
Michelle go to bed
I feel left out. I didn’t know everyone else had a manifesto. I thought only crazy revolutionaries like Karl Marx and the Unibomber had manifestos. I mean, if a guy can send a letter to Congress with his manifesto against the Iraq war AND with a picture of himself standing in front of the Times Square recruiting office with the words “We Did It” AND it arrives on the day that same recruiting office is bombed AND officials almost immediately say there is “no indication he committed any crime”, then I must have fallen through a worm-hole into another reality because nothing makes sense to me anymore.
Can anyone tell me if it common for innocent, peace-loving individuals to have their own manifesto in this parallel universe?
General Giap (North Vietnam) stated in an interview, that they were ready to give up back in the 60s. They got encouragement from the anti-war protests and the liberal MSM, and decided to keep going. Now, we have the same situation; same minds, different persons, same media. We left them alone, back in the 60s, and lost the war. We can’t do that today. The war will come, this time, to our own doorsteps. These “losers” with empty lives, looking for any cause, have to be severely punished. All they are doing is “aiding and abetting the enemy.” They have to be stopped. Unfortunately, with encouragement from the MSM and liberal politicians, I don’t see it coming anytime soon. They demand “free speech” yet will deny it to anyone else.
Nothing guileful about these cretins. They probably used the unhuffed remains of a tube of super glue.
And none of the activities listed above could be prosecuted as “hate crimes.” Please correct me–and encourage me–if I’m wrong.
Unless there is serious punishment for these acts of vandalism/terrorism they will continue. Why is that so hard for the authorities to figure out?
Michelle, how about the defacing of the Vietnam War Memorial?
Actually, there was a rule against soldiers getting tattoos because technically it was defacing government property. I do not recall it ever being enforced but it did exist as we were told in Basic Training and AIT. Surely if a soldier is government property and defacing it is a crime, this would seem to apply to the recruiting offices as well.
Unfortunately we do not have peace officers anymore. We have law enforcement agents who are required to enforce some laws no matter how asinine they may be. They are also required to protect the law and not the people. Unfortunately, in many other circumstances, they are required to interpret the letter of the law on the scene and make snap judgments. If they are right in the eyes of our leftist system, it is okay but if the leftist lawyers and gubmints feel slighted in the least, the law enforcement agents are then held personally accountable for doing their jobs.
I respect what the good cops go through on a daily basis but I am afraid that like so much of our government, we are caught up in a system that is so far beyond repair that it will have to be rebuilt from scratch. The question then becomes what will institute that change? Will it be the hard working and honest people we have remaining or an increasingly left-leaning fascist government?
In short, I do not think anyone will protect any law which may very well put them up on charges of some sort or another. The good cops would be ousted and the poorly trained or uncaring cops simply do not care or will not risk being ostracized. Politics seem to have successfully oozed into nearly every aspect of our lives now.
IMHO
There is a federal law (Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 248) that protects access to abortion clinics. We need someone like Senator DeMint to sponsor and pass a similar law to protect recruitment centers.
Until then, start demanding from your U.S. Attorney’s Offices throughout the country that they bring criminal civil rights charges (Title 18, U.S. Code 241) against these people. The key element of that offense is that two or more persons conspire to prevent other U.S. citizens from exercising their Constitutional rights (such as freedom to assemble and enter a recruitment station to shake the hands of the recruiters - a First Amendment right). The laws already exist to fight these cretins, but nobody has the guts to do so. Therefore, as citizens, you can ask that charges be filed, and the publicize and shame the U.S. Attorneys and Department of Justice flunkies who refuse to protect our civil rights. Remember, the morons’ civil rights do not supersede ours.
By the way, whatever happened to the Semper Fi Act?
Again, these wackos are showing their idiocy and immaturity. Since they do not teach critical thinking or logic in schools anymore, allow me to show them the error of their ways.
The military does not decide when or where to fight wars!
If the protestors have a problem with the military’s actions, then let them protest or assault those in the government that do. If these groups had any more than two coherent thoughts within a 24 hour period, they would take their tantrums to Washington. There they could take their frustrations out on Congress and the White House.
Of course, they won’t. Simply put, they do not have the courage or fortitude to do so. If they did, then they would be signing up at the recruiting offices rather than vandalizing them.
If this was a religious kook bombing abortion clinics the left would be howling for their blood. Now it’s their own people attacking military recruitment centers and still howling blood, military blood.
Both actions are absolutely wrong. It’s time the left was forced to grow up and learn to be adults taking full personal responsibility for their own actions.
{^_^}
Unfortunately, I think that another of my brother or sisters in arms is going to have to die in one of these “protests” before the politicians find it expedient address the acts of domestic terrorism.
Is it not enough that we die in foreign fields?
I say it’s time for a million man armed march to the steps of the capitol.
What are we, helpless rabbits?
Patriotic Americans are more than capable of putting a stop to this, by stepping up to the plate to stand up for our men and women in uniform. Using whatever means necessary. We’re more than capable of grabbing the rebellious teenager by the earlobe and giving a good hard twist.
But we choose not to… its’ easier to gripe on discussion threads like this one, that it is do get out there and physically do the work that needs to be done.
A large part of the blame rests squarely on our shoulders, folks. These things continue to happen because we stand here clucking our tongues in disgust and do absolutely nothing.
Melanie Morgan is out there fighting the fight that we should ALL be fighting. It’s not enough to send in a contribution… this is not a fight that can be won by throwing money.
Our men and women in uniform fight for us and protect us, every single day. They are the silent guardians that allow us to live our lives peacefully. They are the silent guardians who watch over our children, and our childrens’ children. They do it without glory and they do it without praise, and they do it selflessly.
Maybe it’s our turn now to fight for them. Using every means at our disposal to do so to stand up to these bullies and say “no more!”.
What are YOU going to do today to make sure this doesn’t happen to recruiters in your home town? What?
We are all guilty for continually putting these gaggle of cowards back in office. Dems, RINO’s, Repubs quit representing “We the People” long ago, now the only thing they are capable of doing is, making sure Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds don’t get shot in the butt!
My guess is the dems are quite happy with the harrassment of our recruiters. They can use this in their talking points on why we should not be in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Zorro asked my question. (Thanks) Even though the vandalism is not an overt attack on recruiters, per se, it is an overal attack that I believe should be mentioned.
However, MM can’t always recall every detail; she’s a busy lady. Thanks MM
Am I right “sausage”? Doesn’t this fit into your its everyones fault mentality, or is that mental deficiency?
Let’s bear in mind that these cowards don’t normally attack a full-blown military installation. Why? Simple. The guards posted at and around the bases are armed.
Recruiters are not (at least as far as the standard civilian can tell).
Like a typical street thug, these “peace” activists only go after those who appear vulnerable. You won’t dare catch them storming a military installation.
And, no, this isn’t a threat. Marines show enough self-discipline that they won’t kick the ever-living tar out of someone who so desperately needs it. That, my friends, is true courage — and why the socialists get away with it.
Its’ very easy to sit back and complain that this is a matter for politicians to mandate and shame on them for not doing their jobs!
Look, we need to take this away from the politicians. Stop waiting for them, they’re not going to do anything!
This is an effort that has to be made at the grassroots level, folks… in my neighborhood, and in your neighborhoods. By you and I, not politicians.
The trenches are not in New York City, Berkeley or Tacoma. The trench is right in front of that recruiting center that you have in your home town… you know where it is. Make it your business TODAY, to go down and talk to your recruiters and find out if they are having similar problems.
If they are, alert the local press and organize a counter effort. Do whatever it takes to protect those offices.
Talk to your recruiters in the local high schools and ask them how they are treated by students and staffers. If they’re being treated with impugnity, call the local press and raise holy hell. Organize groups of parents and students to support our men and women in uniform.
Yes, the bullies will howl back. You scream louder.
Our troops support us, when are we going to start supporting them? Stop throwing dollars and roll up your sleeves! It’s time to get your hands dirty.

“The initial incident in Ms.
There is no moral equivalence between fighting to bring down the country and fighting to preserve it.”
Correct.
We have to defend our nation, society, and culture.
For us to survive, if it takes the currently “cold” culture (civil) war turning “hot”, or at least warming up a bit, well,…so be it.
That might just be the only way for us to survive - that is, to fight back.
And you’re right: it is not stooping to their level…any more than striking back when you are attacked by someone is “stooping to the attacker’s level”.
If this is how one behaves when they support something. Well, I don’t want to see how the behave when they are against something. C’mon, can we now drop the crap about them supporting the troops and not the war?
Our troops will continue to defend our freedoms and the nutroots, such as they are will continue to abuse those freedoms. Which is more noble?
There isn’t a hint of respectability towards our troops in their (lefties) actions. And for those in power who choose to turn a blind eye to their antics when they weren’t hurting anybody are seeing what happens when you opt to ignore a problem instead of facing it head on. But they’ll continue in complacency and welcome more anarchy only this time it is coming in a more sinister package and is seeking destruction on a grander scale. Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it.
The liberal elite in the MSM must be livid. The NYC incident would’ve been swept under the carpet- but sending all those letters to Congressmen- well that was just too much of a bright light shining down! They had to focus on it….were forced to…
Poor whining moonbats.
Good lord, look at all of that.
Unbelievable.

See? We were right lgm.
Fortunately, these idiots don’t seem to be having as much effect as they think. I’ve heard on many radio reports that the Armed Forces are meeting recruiting and retention goals.
I think if/when these idiots are caught they should be punished by being forced to clean up their mess while wearing shirts that say “I Hate The USA”.
Wasn’t John Kerry’s Secret Meeting in France with our Enemy, also quoted by Gen Giap as a key point to continue the war??? ….quoted as saying…that he (Kerry) told them that the Continuing Body count and length of the war was causing the American people to turn against the war, and soon would force a withdrawal??
Oh and we can not forget the left’s vandalism to the Vietnam War Memorial last year.. corrosive poured on a section..
Unfortunately I have to run out and can’t participate here for a while, but here’s a suggestion:
Have a meeting of like minded neighbors, and form a group of volunteer watchmen in your town. Work a rotating schedule to monitor our recruiting stations and document everything - every single incidence of harassement or violence - both on camera and in writing. Around the clock if necessary.
Work together with your local contingent of Eagles and Patriot Guard riders. Coordinate your efforts.
As for the schools, have parents monitor the halls and supervise school activities during school hours to make full documentation of any and all anti-military/anti-war indoctrination efforts from staffers and visitors, and give casual observance of the folks who go on and off of our high school campuses. Groups like Code Pink and ANSWER are actively recruiting our high school youth through sympathetic teachers and after school activities.
You may have to secure permission from the school administration to monitor activities. But these are public schools and we do have a right to full public disclosure, people. If they give you a hard time, push back. Don’t allow them to cover this kind of thing up.
I must go, back later.
But…but…dissent is patriotic!?!
Can I please, please question their patriotism now?
These communist leftist marxist will make good sandbags
Everything below is sarcasm unless otherwise noted for all you folks that plan to cherry pick some comments for inclusion somewhere else as examples of deranged right wingers.
1. They, the recruiters, knew what they were signing up for.
2. These offices are just another symbol of the obscene amenities our military enjoy.
3. These uniformed occupiers must be driven out.
End of sarcasm. I did time as a detailed recruiter for the Army in the early 90’s, and while my station was never the subject of this type of attention, since it was in a rural area of AL, even then there was still plenty of resentment in the community at large and due to the combination of apathy by most civilians and a sort of passive aggressive mentality so prevalent in society today, fueled more by fear of law suits for speaking your mind then anything else, actions of this type are not pursued vigorously by law enforcement.
You can even go back to the 80’s and the bombing of the Marine Corp barracks in Beirut to see that most people have no problem with violence directed towards the military. I was serving back then and I don’t recall the incident getting more then a passing mention in the media for a couple of days, mostly limited to giving the death toll.
I am sorry but I not only expect more of these type actions but probably an increase as people become more emboldened to carry out acts like this.
/Hey haven’t you heard about Abu Gharib and Gitmo?
What a comedy:
No link? An admission that “we did it”, with a picture of a guy standing in front of the recruitment office that just got blown up. And there is no evidence linking the letter to the bombing? WTF kind of coverup are they pulling?
These wackos should be thankful we have recriutment centers instead of draft offices.
Only one question must be answered:
Where is the commander-in-chief?
Okay, I know you had to leave and cannot respond until later. However, when I made my objections known in a PTA meeting (Quite politely by anyone’s standards and especially by mine personally) I was asked to leave voluntarily or be escorted out by police. I was no longer allowed to participate in the PTA and certainly had no accessibility of any kind.
The sad truth is that anytime the right attempts to fight this vitriolic fire with the same proverbial fire, we are the ones who will be prosecuted.
Sad but true.
My objections … just for the record? Curved grading to appease those who had no desire to receive an education.
Sex education without the benefit of any course for abstinence or even a mention of it as a viable alternative.
I had many more but was never allowed to voice them.
The same holds true of a counter-protest. If you made any attempt to prevent these heinous attacks, I am sure that once you got out of the hospital where you were interred because of your “Peaceful” beating by these peaceful protesters, you would be summarily jailed for infringing upon their constitutional right of sedition and traitorous activities.

No, mojoe, you can’t. Because they HAVE NO patriotism to QUESTION!
Here’s another one for the list, Michelle:
Anti-war judge dashes teen’s hopes to join Marines.
So explain to me why these attacks are not hate crimes and prosecuted as such by the FBI.
There needs to be a sweep across the country to arrest these people. Try them and put them in prisons. However, don’t hold your breath. There is no political will to do this. The bureaucracy has been co-opted. Legal channels are blocked by the left’s lawyers and politicians.
The right needs to wise up and start using the left’s tactics against them. Organize a “protest” and block liberal news stations. Harass Code Pink, and other leftwing offices and homes. Stage protests on college campuses. Be willing to be roughed up and arrested by cops and leftwing thugs, and to spend time in jail.
But, guess what? There are no rightwing benefactors giving rightwing activists money to live on, and to organize, and to pay legal fees. We on the right don’t believe in that.
We want to maintain the status quo. Go to work, have families, and enjoy the peace of law and order. So we don’t do what the left does.
Only when they weaken the system to the point of collapse will we act. By then, it may be too late.
Don’t forget to mention Olympia.
So can I question there “patriotism” yet?
The schools are where a lot of this gets started and we have to start giving that some serious focus.
Did you see how high schoolers were manipulated and exploited in Berkeley? That’s not an isolated incidence, folks, its’ happening behind closed doors all over the country.
Medea Benjamin knows that the media and the ignorant public will respond negatively to any kind of rough treatment of “children”. So she puts them on the front line in her little war, uses them to provoke fights with veterans and pro-military folks, and dares us to do something about it while standing ready with the camera. The kids are too naive to understand that they are being used and exploited. Legal advocates for children look the other way, and mainstream media outlets don’t even raise an eyebrow.
For heavens’ sake, ENOUGH of this!
Ms. Benjamin and her ilk are enabled by teachers who use their classrooms every day as a socialist/communist platform. They do it behind closed doors, with the blessing of the school administration, and nobody complains. They’ve been doing it for years.
I caught one of my daughters’ teachers doing it recently, her current events instructor, and I didn’t let it pass. I confronted him, I confronted the administration. I took it straight to the school board and asked that his pet pieces of video propaganda be removed from the classroom. I was pretty much told to blow it out my ear.
Our children are being brainwashed, their lives are being poisoned, and what… we sit here and do NOTHING?!!!
Most schools in this country now have a policy that you cannot walk into the school without signing in for security purposes. No more casual observance from members of the concerned public.
It should be known that there are activists groups and individual activists that FULLY exploit this policy to get into our schools and manipulate our children behind closed doors, where their activities cannot be casually observed by you and I. Teachers and classrooms are not being monitored.
We have an entire generation of teenagers who are ripe for any kind of rebellion that they can get away with, and so Ms. Benjamin exploits them for HER rebellion.
These young people are the ones that you will be seeing on the front lines. Depend on it, and prepare accordingly.
What a SCUMBAG that judge is!
I swear if I hear of these kinds of protests planned, I will go and defend my brothers. Because as a civilian, I can do things they cannot. Like bring my friends. And just happen to be walking the shep and doberman while we are there.
Its looking like us Patriot Guard Riders are now going to have to defend recruiting stations, as well as funerals.
I swear, the left is creating a culture of hatred. Problem is they will eventually piss enough of us off to where we start doing things back to them. And unlike the little college anarchists, we know things.
The left is banking on the theory that those to the right and center, don’t have the stomach for it.
I wonder the same thing. We’ve allowed ourselves to be so lulled by complacency and apathy that we’ve become incapable of burning with righteous indignation.
Forget about doing jailtime, even if its’ for the right reasons… we on the right would rather sit in our comfy, overstuffed recliners and listen to Rush and Laura talk about the issues. Armchair indignation is the highest level of indignation that we can raise.
And we make ourselves feel better about our apathy by hitting the PayPal button once in a while.
/spit
The FBI says the letters were not linked to the bombing and are an “incredibly unbelievable coincidence.”
I couldn’t agree more. Actually, I agreed with your entire post but this statement jumped out at me.
It is unfortunate that citizens will have to take to the streets in this way. And it is in direct correlation with our supposed representatives who continually let us down and allow anarchy to rein. The MSM and their supposed un-bias reporting and these little whiny pinkos who wouldn’t know patriotism and respect for those in uniform if it came up and bit them on the lip. I’m tired and frustrated and this blatant disregard for all things sacred has got to stop. The tipping/boiling point is coming if hasn’t yet arrived.

His foster parents, as well as his social worker, supported his decision to enlist early. Despite being denied [by the judge’s capricious act], he still shows up for USMC physical training.
In denying the Royal High School student delayed entry into the Marine Corps, Children’s Court Commissioner Marilyn Mackel reportedly told Sage and a recruiter that she didn’t approve of the Iraq war, didn’t trust recruiters and didn’t support the military.
“I tried. I said, `Please.’ I begged. He tried, he said, `Please’ and begged,” Sage said. “But she refused.”
Mackel said she denied delayed enlistment to an eager Navy recruit as well, Medrano said.
She expressed concern that recruiters treat recruits “like another warm body,” he said. “She said, `All you care about is your numbers.”‘
“She just said all recruiters were the same - that they `all tap dance and tell me what I want to hear.’ She said she didn’t want him to fight in it.”
“The judge said she didn’t support the Iraq war for any reason why we’re over there,” said Marine recruiter Sgt. Guillermo Medrano of the Simi Valley USMC recruiting office.
The judge’s name is Marilyn Mackel.

Be polite. No bad language.
But be firm in telling her a judge is not supposed to inject her ignorance, prejudice and unreasoned bias into another young person’s choice to serve his/her country.
Where in the hell is the FBI?
Years ago I was working at facility the S.E.A.L.s and Marines were using to train prior to deployment. The FBI was there to make sure there was no interference by anyone. Those of us that worked there loved having the SEALs and the young Marines there and we were at times were able mingle with them. What great young men and women they are. We have to have their backs here. Again, where the hell is the FBI and Justice Dept? Why are we putting up with this ****?
