Update 11:49am Eastern. Just in…Samantha Power resigns from the Obama campaign: “A Barack Obama adviser has resigned after calling rival Hillary Rodham Clinton ‘a monster.’ A campaign official told The Associated Press Friday that Samantha Power’s resignation is effective immediately.”

An adviser to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama apologized Friday for telling a Scottish newspaper that rival Hillary Rodham Clinton is “a monster.”
Samantha Power, a foreign policy adviser to Obama’s presidential campaign and Pulitzer Prize winner, was quoted in remarks she later attempted to retract as saying in The Scotsman newspaper that Clinton was stooping to low tactics to recover ground in the race to win the party’s presidential nomination.
The Harvard professor is quoted as telling the newspaper Obama’s team had been disappointed with Clinton’s campaign win in Ohio on Tuesday.
“In Ohio, they are obsessed and Hillary is going to town on it, because she knows Ohio’s the only place they can win,” Power is quoted as saying. “She is a monster, too — that is off the record — she is stooping to anything.”
Power issued a statement Friday in which she acknowledged the comments but said she “deeply regretted them.”
The Kinsleyan gaffes abound:
“You just look at her and think, ‘Ergh’,” Power is quoted as telling the newspaper. “But if you are poor and she is telling you some story about how Obama is going to take your job away, maybe it will be more effective. The amount of deceit she has put forward is really unattractive.”
In a separate interview for Britain’s left-leaning New Statesman magazine, published Thursday, Power warned Clinton’s campaign against reveling in the trial of an Obama donor Antonin “Tony” Rezko on corruption charges.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea for the Clintons to get into a competition over who’s got the most unsavory donations, you know what I mean?” Power was quoted as telling the magazine.
Yes, we know what you mean.

My gag reflex tends to kick in, when I have to look at or listen to sHillary for too long. That’s why I wasn’t able to stomach the last couple of Democrat
debatespandering sessions.Of course, Obama and his “change” rhetoric gets pretty old, when he doesn’t offer anything substantive, like 30 mentioned.
sHillary does have some gall calling into question people like Rezko with Obama. The list for Willy and her is quite long and colorful.

How can a person who has made a career and a name for herself campaigning agaist genocide work for someone who thinks the war was wrong? I know the US should negoiate everything when it changes the world, but that wasn’t working very well with Hussien. The mass graves and chemical weapons used against his people were just inconvient and if Powers or Barak had talked with him long enough he would have seen the light? I guess at Harvard they were able to teach her what a real monster was, a liberal that disagrees with her liberal.
I had doubts about the wisdom of propping up Hillary to see the Dems self-destruct but this is too good and is sure to get better. Watching the Dems squirm and say all of this is just a minor family spat and in the end there will be a big hug is laughable. All the self-serving, power hungry factions that make up their socialist coalition are about to get into a big cage fight. And we Americans are supposed to believe liberals are all about tolerance and Kumabya?

Obama has no idea what he is up against with sHillary. If he doesn’t learn to fight back, he is in for a very rough few months. Mudslinging is an understatement for what the Clintons are capable of doing.

So she told this Scottish newspaper “this is off the record” and they went ahead and printed it? I know it’s a juicy tidbit but who in their right mind would ever trust that newspaper again?

You can’t put a dog cat bird and rat in the same room and have them come out united. The dems are childish we see it again and again so whoever loses is sure to throw a tantrum. Yuck! This is turning into an election of who has the least-unattractive skeletons in their closet. McCain is looking better by the day to me.
Looks like the candidate of “judgment” may be a little lacking in his supposed area of strength.
Oh, that’s right, Obama has already labeled his own powers of judgment as “boneheaded”. So why should we be surprised when the Bonehead-in-Chief continues to reveal his acute powers of boneheadedness.
Most surprising is the number of people in this Country who feel a kindred connection to the Mother-of-all-Boneheads. Perhaps our educational system has taught them that a lack of judgment, incompetence and disingenuousness are admirable qualities in a leader of the free world. That, or they take comfort in the knowledge that there is someone out there who is the penultimate bonehead, giving them a role model to base their aspirations and hopes upon. Yes, you too can achieve the status required for admission into the upper tier of the High Order of the Calcified Cranium, but only if you work hard at achieving a mastery in incompetence and political sleight of hand.

She is not being forced out for being divisive or negative. Would she have resigned for saying something like this about a Republican? More likely it would never have been reported. She is being punished for what everybody, including Democrats, knows but is not allowed to say. Peggy Noonan has some interesting commentary on this in her current column.
There actually are rules. If this sequence is correct, she (Power) blew it. If you want it ‘off the record’ you say that first, then wait for acknowledement that it is ‘off the record’. At that point you should be able to say what you want.
She would be celebrated if she called any Republican a monster.
The guys over at Power Line have been all over Samantha Power’s case for some time now. She has a long track record of pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli statements and policy positions that (of course) have generated little attention and even less coverage in the “mainstream” media.
Her “monster” brain fart was probably just the excuse the Obama camp was looking for to ease her out without seeming to the faithful like they were caving in to “right-wing pressure.”
Still, good riddance no matter what the circumstances.
Are we faced with McSame across the isle. First McSame kills the messenger when he threw Bill Cunningham under the straight talk express, now kill the messenger Black staff resigning for call jihillery a monster, and kill the messsenger jihillery staff resigning for damaging Black Hussein Osama utterances.

I’d read that saying “off the record,” after a comment, allows reporters to put it “on the record.” I searched for an explanation of why Power’s comment was used and found The Scotsman article tells why. It also shows that Ms. Power–like Obama–enjoys throwing an occasional F-bomb. No further comment–I’m now off the record.
It’s a shame that someone lost her job for telling the truth. Shrillary is the most calculating monster to hit the scene in my lifetime. Her calculating mind rivals that of her most hated adversary, Richard M. Nixon. She is more secretive than he ever thought of being! We still haven’t seen her tax returns!

I could understand that she might state that she regrets having mispoken, but to say something and then claim it is off the record in an interview is a rookie mistake of the first order. Just plain dumb.
Powerlineblog has been providing good information on Powers for weeks. She is rabidly antiIsrael and has written that the US should force Israel to retreat to the preJune 1967 borders. She is an apologist for the Arabs and for every Muslim group. One wonders why the MSM never asked Obama about Powers Mideast views.

I am unsure if this is a complete reflection of Sen Obama. However, along with Ms. Rice’s comments on Tucker, this episode should be a very strong lesson learned for the Obama campaign.
#19 kman – not sure how good an idea it is to shun any news outlet, no matter how good it might feel. The Democratic candidates, until recently, have not appeared on Fox and have been criticized for not doing so. Yes, the ‘Scotsmen’ is foreign press, yet the downside would be having all the foreign press siding with them. Best strategy, take in on the chin, and learn from the mistake.

We hear back and forth about whats going to happen with MI and FL and who has how many delegates.
My question is when are we going to get off this nickel dime stuff and have examination of the issues that will be confronting someone as President of this country.
Or has that been excluded from consideration in campaigns now?
You even go to their websites and their position papers are so generic that they aren’t worth the pixels they are written with.
Voting for President and we are all fairly much running blind from the lack of issue insight.

But as to the substance: she was right on. As to her qualifications as a foreign policy advisor: anti-semetic, for Obama seems right on. As to her ability to discern–she is a loser. Doesn’t she remember Arlin Spectator and Scottish law? Nothing is off the record according to Rhino Arlin.
Kinda like Bob Kerrey saying something bad about Obama & then apologizing, or all the other Hillary flaks saying something off the wall & then “resigning” from Hillary’s campaign.
It looks like Obama is doing the same thing now. I think this was contrived, and then she would “resign” just like the Hillary people did. I’m sure she’ll be back if he wins.
Ms. Power may have placed the “monster” moniker upon our Hillary (and aptly so, in my opinion), but it took Christopher Hitchens to properly define her as such.
In her column in this week’s WSJ, Peggy Noonan uses some very interesting and informative quotes from Hitchens wherein he pretty much implies the same thing Ms. Power said. It’s a column well worth the read!
