Document drop: Unclassified memo warns military personnel of anti-war threats to recruiters, Army installations/facilities
Responding to my reporting on the Left’s escalating war against military recruiters, a source sent me the following unclassified memo issued this week warning military personnel and civilian employees across the country to be on alert against possible threats and violence by anti-war and anti-recruiter protesters gearing up for demonstrations on the fifth anniversary of the war in Iraq. Officials are on guard against the Pittsburgh nuts threatening to “cage” recruiters, as well as the threats against the Tacoma, WA recruiting station. I believe it is in the public interest to underscore the ongoing threats our military personnel face here at home.
Like the memo says: “Remain vigilant.”
Oh, and by the way, the Times Square recruitment station bomber has still not been identified and caught.

Please tell me they will be allowed to defend themselves.
Knowing our military, they will remain civil and take a restrained defensive posture. I just wish I was there in Pittsburgh, so I could confront these loons with NO restraint.
This is so sad to contemplate, that the left has become so unhinged that our military personnel must be alerted to the risk of being harmed by their fellow countrymen.
Check for car bombs? Good Lord!
Sad to see that this even has to be sent out.
Damn moonbats are a disgrace.
4.5 COMMANDERS AT ALL LEVELS SHOULD ESTABLISH RELATIONSHIPS WITH LOCAL POLICE IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE LOCAL THREATS.
Uh, do you really think that would work in Berkeley?
Why aren’t tax-payer funds being used for police protection? Isn’t that what they’re paid for?
As much as I would love to confront those nuts by protecting the RC at the Tacoma Mall… the official stance is to stay away. I’ll do so. But if I hear of a place where supporters can gather, I’ll make a day of it. Anybody got a list of ‘counter protests’ or Support Rallies?
Why aren’t these people being classified as terrorists?
If they threaten an airline, they are arrested. If they
threaten a school, they are arrested. Why not in this
case?
Why are they being treated like run of the mill
protesters instead of terrorists?
The briefing I had to attend with the USAF OSI before I went to Qatar a few years ago had less threats to be aware of than this!
Ammo John, you are not kidding. While in the Navy we had some breifings but they were mainly just common sense, including the ones when we were over seas.
WHY ARE THE AUTHORITIES NOT ARRESTING AND PROSECUTING THESE PEOPLE? If I threatened to kidnap a person and destroy their property, particularly if I had already demonstrated illegal actions against them in the past, I would expect to be arrested and confined, and issued with a restraining order at the very least. So why is it that these insurrectionists can make threats and get away with it when the rest of us law-abiding citizens cannot?? The only message this is giving is that if you want something done, do it yourself. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets killed.
We don’t play so nice with seditious cretins in Pittsburgh.
US military personnel are safer in Iraq than the US?
Is it OK that I forwarded this to my local ACT group? Maybe we can mobilize some VFW posts into action.
I’ll be there, Mrs. Malkin. I hope others will, too.
Umm, yea I think I’ll question any damn leftists patriotism, They are all a disgrace to this country.
It’s disgusting that it has come to this..no respect for our heroes at all.
HOLY COW!!! GREAT DATA! Have we had enough of this CRAP yet? Have we? I faxed EVERY single CONgress Critter today a 2-page letter using what Michelle has collected and what others have collected PLUS everything I have collected over the last few years since 2004 and told them all that when the blood begins to flow in Downtown America, the blood will be on their hands.
I also mass-faxed every Federal law enforcement office I could find and every fax number I could find at the Pentagon.
E-fax is a wonderful thing.
This DAV has seen enough bloodshed elsewhere and I DON’T want to see it in the streets of America.
Do you? This CRAP must stop and it must stop NOW NOW NOW.
PS No, I didn’t use anybody’s name or web site IDs…just a list of “events”.
I see San Diego is on the alert list. Does anyone have the details? Time, place??
The more things change, the more they remain the same.
As a Marine going to comm school in Southern California (San Diego), in 1968 we were not allowed to wear uniforms off base (MCRD).
The hippies didn’t like it. They could pick you out by your short hair and manner of dress anyway.
Michelle, is there anything an Army-loving, patriotic Tacoma, WA citizen should do on the 15th, or should we just stay the heck away?
#11 — AMEN!! I simply cannot understand why every effort is not made to apprehend and arrest these terrorists. Make no mistake, it is terrorism. They may be Americans, and I use that term very loosely where these idiots are concerned, but why the preferential treatment? I don’t see any protests scheduled near where I live, but I will definitely keep my eyes/ears open for the next week to see if any are organized. MM, please keep us updated if you hear of any more!
McCain/Romney 2008, let’s get it done.
I typed too quickly… I decided to check on the CodePinko site to see if there are any demonstrations nearby. Look up events here. There is one — in the middle of a weekday. I guess none of the pinkos have real jobs. Nice that I can help support them by working my real job. Grrrr
Not classified but someone distributed a FOUO (For Official Use Only) memo, which is verboten.
Alot of the precautions mentioned in the message were SOP while I was stationed in Europe in the 80’s & 90’s. It’s not something you expect to have to do in the continental United States. But between 911, left-wing loons, gangs, and other threats, it has become common practice.
Because I have national guard tags on my truck, I’m very aware of my surroundings and have gone back to the procedures I was taught while stationed in Europe. I even pass on tips to my family that lives 90 miles away now and again so they can remain vigilent.
They forgot a section.
The use of deadly force is authorized to protect the personnel or property of the effected installations.
wow, like has been said by ammo john and others here i never seen anything so detailed either.
I can’t even begin to describe the burden of worry that this places on military families.
This Marine mom is sick at heart. I saw what happened to our military personnel during Vietnam, and it makes me physically ill to see it happening again to my son.
Where is our Federal Government? Where are the politicians in Washington, Republican and Democrat, who do absolutely NOTHING to discourage and put a stop to these illegal criminal acts?
This is nothing less than domestic terrorism, and the silence coming from Washington is STUNNING!
The Governors of these states share the burden of guilt, because they ALSO do nothing!
WHY should our military families and personnel and young men and women who want to enlist voluntarily, have to put up with this? Call out the National Guard!
For our Federal Government to not step in and put a stop to this is, in and of itself, criminal.
Is there ONE person in Washington with a voice? Or are you all politically neutered?
I guess this is another way to say don’t feed the trolls, which I will admit to being a bad one on this so I must remind myself of this.
My neighbor in the culdesac and I had talked about getting a group together to counter protest the “peasful” protestors. My husband told me he wanted me to stay at home because he was afraid at what these idiots (would say something else-must not get banned) would do, guess it’s an order now.
What ever town you live in, where ever you are in the US, drive over to your locl recruiting station and introduce yourself. Shake their hands, look them in the eye, and say thank you for puttin’ on the uniform.
If you can, take them a basket of muffins, a pound of coffee, or a gift certificate for pizza.
If on the 19th, you and some of your friends want to hang out in the recruiter’s parking lot and discuss the weather while carrying baseball bats, that’s not such a bad idea either.

I applaud your willingness to stand in the local trenches and support our men and women in uniform, terrig! If not now, WHEN?
My young son is a Marine, serving far from home during a time of war. He’s going to be gone a long time, doing what he has to do to protect his loved ones at home and yes, YOUR family. He does what he has to do, without hesitation.
Tell your husband that he needs to grow a set!

Can we say they aren’t partiotic yet?
On a more serious note, it’s beyond time to stop the flow of any federal money to any place in the USA that doesn’t actively support the troops. Homeland Security, HUD, Highways, Police, Schools, all of it. Every last dime. Let’s see how much Berkely, et al., likes it when the rug is pulled out from under them.
As for cooperation with local law enforcement - how can you cooperate with them when they allow it to happen?
All of these things happen to abortion clinics. Many have round the clock police protection. So far, MM hasn’t peeped about that.
Irish Rose, my husband goes back in May. I had to deal with peas protestors coming on to my private property when we lived in HI when he was gone for 14 months in 06-07. We have two small children and I can understand why he doesn’t want me to take them with-he can’t get off of work for this. I have confronted them at every turn, including showing up to that weasel watada’s talks everytime he came back to HI to give them, and showing up at that idiot ward churchill’s speech too where I was detained by police over night while my neighbor watched my kids wondering what happened to me. I think I’ve done what I can do and will continue to do more. It’s just at this juncture where we know no one who will watch our kids that I can’t. I have attended other counter protests but I guess since my husband doesn’t want me to attend this one that doesn’t matter. I know what it means to go off to war myself and to send your loved one into harms way. I just can’t do this one.
The troll has spoken.
More hypocritical moral relativism from lgm.
Has lgm ever even tried to respond to an actual topic here without trying to take it off on a tangent critical of Michelle, conservatives, or republicans?
No JHSII he has not and I don’t believe he ever will.
lgm is like a zit that keeps coming back. get back up in your tree.
Michelle Malkin….Michelle Malkin…where are you?
The troll lgm is spouting about the massive bombings of death clinics again. You know all those incidernts that the rotten media is hiding from us to protect the integrity of abortions.
Where are these guys? This agency within the Department of Homeland Security is chartered to protect federal property–owned or leased.
They “demonstrate” here, I’ll be there supporting the recruiters.
WOW - just WOW. The enemy of my countrymen is my enemy. These people are loved by AQ.
lgm still doing his abortion thing. You know, SouthernBoy kept up the WWJD until he got banned. How many times does lgm get the “abortion bombing” pass?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
Start enforcing the law. If these “protesters” go over the line so much as to willfully obstruct the recruiters and prevent them from doing their job, then arrest, prosecute and jail these people and their co-conspirators. They have every right to protest, but they have NO right to interfere wiht the legitimate functioning of the government.
Send in Federal Marshalls or the FBI. And Arrest them. Put them in FEDERAL lockups.
They are breaking the law. What law, you ask?
THIS ONE! (added emphasis mine)
Title 18, Part I, Chapter 115, § 2388. Activities affecting armed forces during war
(a) Whoever, when the United States is at war, willfully makes or conveys false reports or false statements with intent to interfere with the operation or success of the military or naval forces of the United States or to promote the success of its enemies; or
Whoever, when the United States is at war, willfully causes or attempts to cause insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty, in the military or naval forces of the United States, or willfully obstructs the recruiting or enlistment service of the United States, to the injury of the service or the United States, or attempts to do so—
Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.
(b) If two or more persons conspire to violate subsection (a) of this section and one or more such persons do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy, each of the parties to such conspiracy shall be punished as provided in said subsection (a).
(c) Whoever harbors or conceals any person who he knows, or has reasonable grounds to believe or suspect, has committed, or is about to commit, an offense under this section, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.
(d) This section shall apply within the admiralty and maritime jurisdiction of the United States, and on the high seas, as well as within the United States.
Soap, I don’t know but his little antics are getting old like a diaper on a baby for more than an hour. He’s similiar to Southern Boy (gee, I almost forgot him) in his rantings that “some people say the troops are killers”. The scariest thing about him is he has the opportunity to mold young skulls full of mush.
lol, lgm couldnt mold playdough….
You guys hear something? Maybe my stomach is growling.
Like I said on another thread, please don’T Feed the trolls.
I can’t believe this is happening in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! These are not an anti-war protests, it’s anarchy, and these people should be prosecuted as terrorists or, at the very least, war criminals.
OColoradan, I agree with you. But, there will always be a hot-shot lawyer claiming that we are “not at war”, since it wasn’t declared, as per the Constitution, and so the law there, doesn’t apply. Like Korea and Vietnam, it will be described as a “police action”. Now, seriously, what moonbat really looks at the law these days, with the liberals and MSM supporting them? Sad situation, isn’t it. Pick and choose who obeys what and where.
So it begins again. I was stationed at McChord AFB in 1976 and remember being spit on while in uniform and called a baby killer and murderer during my first couple of years in the Air Force (probably why I really don’t care for liberals too much). With the DOD, Mountain Home AFB, and SMSgt chevron stickers on all of my vehicles it will get interesting if any of the liberals in Boise (there aren’t that many) try to play with my vehicle.
Once again the people quite capable of defending themselves against these smell hippies are given a written order to avoid confrontation. The memo is “For Official Use Only” and normally should not be leaked to the general public, but I am glad it did. Of course due to the military discipline instilled in all of our troops they will do all they can to follow these orders to the letter. Failure to obey will result in UCMJ action against the military member that gives them the beating they are so desperately in need of.
I will make a point to thank and bring some treats for the recruiters in Boise once I get back home. Recruiter duty is becoming a lot more dangerous than I thought it was. I really hope they come out to Mountain Home AFB to pull some crap the good citizens of Elmore County love our country, take great pride in our military, and would love to have one-on-one discussions with these traitors some might even live to talk about it afterwards.
I don’t really have anything to add, but this is just sickening. As always, I appreciate Michelle’s reporting on these scumbags.
Like others here, I don’t get why a threat on an airliner sends you to prison, but these threats don’t.
I do a lot of this advised precautionary stuff anyways. My husband already knows about what’s going on. We’re both pretty vigilant to begin with. If some anti-war joker even dares approach me in a menacing way, they’re going to get pepper spray in the face.
These people just try my patience. They get all the accommodations in the world for their free speech rights but they can still hamstring a military member’s life as well as that/those of his spouse and family members. If they even dare to come to my house, they’ll be in for a rude awakening.
The main reason.
This is nothing new. As a counter-protest responding to “anti-war” demonstrations at recruiting centers and elsewhere, I know of many past actions, such as locking recruiters in their offices overnight.
They are, simply put, on the other side, and thus combating them is part of the fighting the war. It somehow reminds me of what that one Code Pinko said of the Marines in the Daily Show video about Berkeley and Code Pink: “We don’t need to be worrying about their rights. It’s not an equal relationship.”
Interesting thought, isn’t it?
lgm, did your mother, wife or girlfriend have an abortion? You seem to be a one trick pony. Regardless of what gets posted here you ramble on about abortion. Stop equating killing defenseless babies with war. The monsters are those who “choose” to terminate a life because it is inconvenient. The monsters are not those who kill scumbags spreading sharia law. You should grow up.
The Thunder Run has linked to this post in the - Web Reconnaissance for 03/13/2008 A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention, updated throughout the day…so check back often.
When 9/11 happened I emailed my husband (who was in Kosovo at the time and does have a set, Rose) that it would probably be a good idea if Congress declared war. He responded with who are we going to declare war against? AQ is not a country.
There is always some puke lawyer out there with this garbage. (Not all lawyers are bad-my brother is one and he’s a good guy.)
Boomer, you’re right with this:
Family members often get emails reminding us not to bother the protestors out in front of the base either (usually from the spouse of the person in charge of the unit). So, if we don’t want our loved one to get in trouble there isn’t a lot we can do. I am also surprised someone leaked this but agree it’s as Martha Stewart would say a good thing.
Terrig, how ya doin’ this morning, girl? My husband told me the same thing. He’s used to getting what he calls “safety briefings.” I’m a lot more passionate about this subject than he is. He’s pretty much used to it.
I also cannot attend the GOE event this weekend because a)my husband worries that I will “hurt” somebody
and b)I’ve got a really bad cold. There are a lot of military members and their families who want to support the GOE and other counter protesters but many have “high profile” jobs and don’t want their families to get involved.
It’s a sucky situtation to be in… I certainly wish I could give some of these anti-war freaks a piece of my mind right now.
Hi Emjem, getting my little girl ready for school and typing away. I really did take offense at what Irish Rose said so felt the need to tell her what I have been doing and that my husband does have a set. I would love to go too but your husband sounds like mine. He hit the roof when I told him about being in police custody for the churchill thing. I do send donations to the GOE on a regular basis though so even though I’m not allowed to go this time, I’ve told them I’m with them in spirit. I would love to give them a piece of my mind too. These people are really sad excuses for human beings.
Terrig:
I can’t believe you got “detained!” I can only imagine how furious your husband was. If had done that, I think my husband wouldn’t be speaking to me for awhile.
I think IR meant well, and I also think she’s expressing the frustration that many of us feel (those with loved ones overseas and those whose military members work “high profile” jobs) at being left behind by the country and the general feeling of isolation by much of America who doesn’t support a war that a)they feel lied to about, b)aren’t even involved in, c) misinformed about by the media.
I’m beginning to suspect that Americans are overall insecure creatures. The population wildly overreacts with feelings of injustice to what they feel is an “unjustified” war, the sub-prime mess, and rising fuel/food costs. I think that war protestors, anarchists, and malcontents are a manifestation of the social ills currently happening in our country.
Anti-war folks make have the “right” to exercise their free speech rights but that doesn’t mean they can turn my life upside down (of the lives of other military members and their families)either.
I couldn’t agree with you more. If I were there, I would land in jail as I would not have the discipline to hold my temper. GRRRRR

Ron Rockstar said (#56):
You claim to be against politically motivated vandalism and violence. But you are oppose violence and vandalism against people you like. I hope these three sentences are not a ramble.
I didn’t make this connection. Those attacking military recruiting centers believe war is murder, just like you think abortion is murder.
LGM:
I will take you at your word re: abortion clinics. But, I do not think anyone that comments on MM’s site, or MM herself, thinks that killing doctors that perform abortions is “OK.” No matter what thier stance on the debate is.
However, it will likely not get addressed by MM. As much as I love MM, it is no secret that she is not unbiased on what she chooses to cover. Not that her reporting is biased, just which topics she will cover. That is the point, she is trying to expose the left.
Our country is currently at war. People commiting murder in the course of what they consider vigilantism is of course bad, in my eyes however, it seems to ammount to a domestic issue.
This is US citizens basically commiting treason or sedition and in fact indirectly helping our enemies overseas.
It’s a different topic.
Anyhow, not enuf bad things can be said of these treasonous acts. How much nonsense has to go on before the Smith Act starts getting enforced?
Back in the early 70’s, as an AF Recruiter in a big city, we received many of these cautionary memos on a regular basis. Yes–we did check our vehicles, mail, and offices for bombs! We did end up with one car having the trunk blown up, but the cops caught the rascal. This is sedition, not lawful protest, plain and simple.
I know feeding moron trolls is frowned upon, but the discernment between war and abortion is that the people we fight in war ARE TRYING TO KILL US, YOU FIRK NUT! Abortion kills INNOCENT babies who never got a chance at ANYTHING in life. And I know you’re about to go off about civilian casualties and I will tell you from the start, that if the terrorist who try to kill our guys were honorable/brave enough not to hide amoung women and babies, there would be NO civilian casualties, so not only are the terrorist killed in war out to murder us, but they are firking cowards also!!
TEEEEEJ
Zero, I understand that you’re okay with the death factories but what math boy and I guess you to some extent don’t understand is that 99% of us are sick and tired of the interjection into any thread about abortion clinics. The aforementioned SouthernBoy frequently compared the troops to killers by saying “some say they are” and “who would Jesus bomb”. I’m not sure if you were around for him but he eventually got banned sometime before Christmas I believe. Running man who doesn’t shave is heading down that same road. There is nothing wrong with my “receiver” as he said on another thread yesterday, he’s just too much of a coward to admit his utter hatred for all things military. He knows that 85% or more of us here are pro-life so he likes to throw in his little abortion rants to make everyone upset. As you said, there isn’t one of us who believe that bombing death factories and killing their providers is right. However, he refuses to believe otherwise and as far as I am concerned he is the scum of the earth not for his pro-death stance but his rejoicing in the deaths of those who serve. He is a small, ugly wart on society and I would venture a guess he either was rejected for the military or he’s afraid to join which would explain his hatred for those who do, those who want to and those who have. He’s a one trick pony and I think his time at the rodeo should be over.
This statement says it all-he believes those in the military are killers.
Emjem, I am also frustrated at the stupidity of most of the American public who see these little exercises in freedom of speech as nothing-until they’re stuck in traffic by these loons but I digress. It is annoying but it was even more annoying to be singled out for being a person who just yaps. I really did take great offense at it.
Yes, my husband went crazy. I guess it was a good thing he was in Iraq when I told him about it, he was pretty calm when we discussed it when he was home on R & R.
Terrig,
Please accept my sincere apologies, I did not know that your family has served.
Clearly, you’ve done ten times more than a lot of folks. You shouldn’t have to do any more time if you don’t want to.
Myself, I’ll be down at the local recruiting station that day with baked chicken and all the fixins’. I’ve taken the day off to be there with a camera, and the local news outlets are on speed dial.
terrig:
Yes on all counts. But really, its only an internet forum. Why get so annoyed? Personally, I think the only bannable offense should be spamming.
If noone responds to another commenter than they will stop commenting. Right?
I’ve had someone call me a baby killer to my face. I politely said, “Have a nice day.” I didn’t punch them, I didn’t scream and I didn’t get annoyed. I wrote them off as a fool and walked away.
I prefer LGM stays here so I can try and help him understand that his comparison of abortion clinics and recruiters is a poor one. Perhaps I’ll have better success.
Oh and baby killer was refering to my service in Iraq, not my stance on abortion.
A quick review found that Michelle has blogged about abortion since Jan ‘08. The number of clinics bombed since then? None.
Hot Air archives go back to April ‘06. I have been looking and I do not see any clinics bombed from that time on.
So, tell us all:
1. Why should we put up with this idiot and his insistence on thread jacking with “abortion clinic bombed” crap?
2. When would be a good time for Michelle to blog about abortion clinics being bombed?
Rose, I think I will bake some Easter cookies to take down on the 19th to the recruiting station as well. I was taken aback about your statement but apology accepted.

Zero, I’m sure unfortunately it won’t be the last time you’re called a “baby killer”. These loons can’t come up with any fresh expressions I guess.
As for the troll, you’re right it is just an internet thing and when I see that the leader of the troll brigade has responded I should just skip on by and go on to someone else.
Zero, I saluter your service. While I may not always agree with everything you post, I respect your right to say it. You always stick to the theme, and don’t try to hijack the thread, and get everybody off track.
However, if I may offer a word of advice from someone older, not necessarily wiser, talking sense to a troll is like talking to your pet goldfish. It might make you feel good, but the fish will never understand.
Soap:
Assuming that is true then taking LGM at his word was perhaps misguided.
LGM? Response? When was the last time an abortion clinic was bombed?
1. Put up with what? It’s an internet forum. Just skip his posts. He is not in your house.
2. Never, I am sure that will be covered elsewhere.
terrig said (#68):
You might not think it’s right, but you don’t complain about it.
If something bugs MM, bless her soul, we hear about it. She says what she thinks, the whole honest truth, clearly and articulately. If she were upset about violence against abortion providers, we would know it by now.
cpodoug:
Thank you very much. Very kind of you to say. Likewise to you :).
Ref. LGM I would at least like to try.
I believe my logic is sound. Vigilantism against what some people consider “murders” (abortion doctors) is a different topic then sedition and basically armed insurection against the government.
Since this was directed at me I don’t have to complain about it, I don’t care about it one wit.
Really. You can see into the future and you know what Michelle will cover and what she will not cover? Amazing.
I bet Michelle never covers a story when a conservative screws up either - right?
Soap:
I assumed your question was when *I* think it would be a good time for MM to cover the topic. Was I mistaken?
*I* think that MM doesn’t need to cover something like that. The goal of her website, I believe, is to report on things that the MSM doesn’t cover.
I was not saying that MM won’t cover it. She may.
Violent acts against the unborn? 40 million plus
Violent acts against abortion providers? 4000 maybe?
Yet, somehow, Michelle is remiss in her reporting?
Sorry, the MSM is remiss in ignoring infanticide.
**********************************************
Violence, intimidation and vandalizing property against recruiters? Way up.
Violence, intimidation and vandalizing property against these scum? Narry a report that I can find.
Bingo and thanks for clearing up answer #2.
We have all tried with lgm. That is our frustration with him. That and the fact that he has this uncanny ability to get under everyones skin. It was I who started the:
I G N O R E
H I M
and I find that, at times, I cannot let his crap go - like terrig and others.
Soap-thanks for expressing my feelings. A lot of the time I do ignore it, but sometimes I can’t.
Soap:
I have no doubt he gets under your skin. I am willing to bet there isn’t a person on this forum (myself included) that hasn’t been guilty of ad-honinem, some form of trolling or troll-feeding, sarcasm, or a whole slew of other responses designed to cut down another individual at least once.
In any case: I believe I have a high degree of self-control and I *THINK* I can convince LGM that perhaps its best to stay on topic.
LGM:
You know I agree with your stance on abortion, but perhaps others have a point? Unless the thread is related to abortion maybe both you and I could give it a rest?
On the flipside: I recommend this to my fellow posters that are on the other side of the debate:
If LGM and I promise to leave it alone, do you think you all could leave it alone as well, unless of course it is the topic of a thread? Naturally, if the topic comes up in an unrelated thread, LGM, Rusty, I, and others may be compelled to respond.
And i thought only Afghanistan was getting ready for a spring offensive.
When you have certain groups, which are actually a fraction of a percentage of the population, being allowed to very publicly ride roughshod over the military without check by the government, like they have been, combined with the possibility of a new democratic government being elected on the horizon that will support the military even less, it is not unfeasible that this could lead to a military coup, depending on who is sitting in the military hot seat at the time.. it’s happened many times in the past internationally, and while the mere thought of it happening in the US seems to defy possibility, it is not so many years ago that most of us would’ve never imagined we’d see what we are seeing today from certain US citizens, and the corresponding apathy from the government.
Look, ZERO (that is your name, right?). Don’t go all contrite and whiney, okay. You, LGM, Rusty and your whole contingent of liberal whackos are the ones who brought up abortion clinics. You not only have NO CLUE about military service. you also have NO CLUE about the “right to life” movement in this country. Please, just go away.
Shouldn’t merely being stationed within the U.S. now qualify service personnel for hazard pay?
zeroangel said (#86):
I try to resist the urge to ad-hominem and ad-feminam. Otherwise, I would have had more to say about terrig, among others.
This thread is on political violence. People here can’t understand why someone would be motivated to bomb a military recruiting center. I’m trying to explain - not condone but explain - that they are motivated by deeply held beliefs about human life.
And I just had lunch & don’t need feeding.
lgm - what deeply held beliefs are those exactly? It would seem to most rational people that violence as a protest against violence is more than just a little bit hypocritical, and negates their entire argument and shows them to be the same as, if not worse than, those they are attempting to vilify. Of course rational is a key word there..
BWAAAAHAAAAHAAAA. Thanks for the laugh. I just had lunch too and I almost hurled at this.
We understand political violence and we condemn it across the board. You did nothing to “explain” anything. You chose this topic (like the last three) to do you “abortion clinic bombings” crap and, frankly, we are all a bit sick of it.
If you want to talk about “human life”, condemn that 40+ million lives taken in very violent ways to horrible to show on TV - to vile to be considered just.
If you MUST explain anything to us, explain the idea that you add nothing to these debates (unless you think we need you to stop by and rile us up?).
It would appear that recruiters are now safer in Iraq than America. What a crime.
terrig (#58) suggested that the U.S. cannot declare war on AQ because its not a country. The U.S. declared war on the Barbary Pirates (not a country, and, by the way, that war is the source of the “shores of Tripoli” line in the Marine Corps hymn).
As for “Declaration of War,” the 2002 Joint Resolution authorized the President to use the armed forces Iraq to enforce existing U.N. resolutions, but that Joint Resolution did not contain the magic words “state of war.” Nobody can identify, however, the source of authority that mandates the use of the magic phrase in a “Declaration of War.” Everyone seems to expect to hear it because President F.D. Roosevelt said it on Dec. 8, 1941.
So, is 18 USC 2388 applicable today? I’d say so, and I’d be willing to prosecute that case (I’m a federal prosecutor). The problem is, the senior officials in Government are terrified of actually enforcing the law. I don’t know why. Write your Senator and Congressman and have them ask the Attorney General of the United States why he (and the U.S. Department of Justice) is not enforcing the law.
And a throw-away for lgm, 18 USC 248 protects abortion clinics, and we do enforce that law (among others). As for “explaining” your moral relativism, people who post here basically live in the real world, where real choices have to be made. If you want to post about your transcendental belief in nothingness, start your own blog.
It was a jolly good laugh wasn’t it, Soap!
Bob, I was just discussing an email exchange with my husband shortly after 9/11. I wasn’t saying we could or could not do it. I wish we would but Bush didn’t nor will he.
Well, can’t say I didn’t try.
FirstSkirt:
I spent a tour in Iraq as a MiTT (the first year of my marriage), more than once finding myself dismounted in the middle of uncertain territory. My unit lost more than one good man. Please refain from assumptions about me because I break ranks with Republicans on a particular issue.
I was 5yrs active, and 4 in the reserve. I am conservative on just about every issue except abortion. I have consistently, my whole life, voted Republican, making my personal stance on abortion more or less moot in regards to my vote. So, that said, “Have a nice day.”
LGM:
I understand your point, but I think its still off-topic. There are plenty of abortion threads to comment in. This is not one of them, so how about it? Perhaps a break is in order?
Zero,
Thanks for your service. You did get a low blow there from firstskirt.
Soap:
*smile* You and I have had quite the disagreements in the past, but I have no doubt if I knew you personally we would get along just fine.
Forums like these can get nasty because people are behind a computer screen. Posters often (myself included) don’t maintain the decorum they might in real life.
As a personal example:
I sometimes use this as a sounding board: re: my atheism (for one). Exactlly 2 people in RL know I am an atheist. My wife (I only told her recently) and one out of my 2 brothers.
We can say things here we wouldn’t normally in RL, it does get antsy. I humbly suggest we all try and behave more like we would if we were talking to someone at the office.
terrig, I wasn’t accusing you of anything, but most people seem to think that the U.S. can only declare war on a country. Few people remember that we have previously fought jihadists as a tribal group (the Barbary Pirates), under President Thomas Jefferson, if I recall correctly.
As to the “state of war” magic phrase, there is no such requirement that I can find. Congress must pass a Joint Resolution, which it has, authorizing the President to take military action, which it did. So, notwithstanding the unwashed left-overs from Vietnam, the United States is, indeed, “at war,” which means that the IVAW people could be federally prosecuted if they are making false claims, and the Code Pink supporters who block access to recruiting offices can be prosecuted.
My point is simply that our political leaders lack the moral courage to enforce the law.
Zero, my husband was last in Iraq as a SPTT member. All of them came back but other friends we had made throughout the years from other units did not.
I can understand your frustration in spending your first year of wedded bliss deployed, my husband was gone for 11 months and 23 days of our first year but was back in time to eat that frozen cake.
Bob, I agree with you about the leaders lacking courage. I certainly wish they would grow a spine as well. Sometimes it’s good to have a History lesson every now and then!
I strongly believe in many issues…but I don’t GO BOMB someone into submission if I disagree. If the ‘peace-niks’ (in their warped minds) are resorting to what they feel is fighting ‘fire with fire’…why don’t we just have anarchy and be done with it all and not have a civil society.
I hate anarchists, and sniveling pathetic liberals, but I don’t go to their homes or places of work and attack them.
i’m regretful to say the way things are going…the number of Americans that have no concept of the of the basics and fundamental spirit of the founding of this great country, mainly FREEDOM, your prognostication is more than likely to come true.
Get your powder and keep it dry.
Terrig:
My battle buddy was pulled away from our MiTT team near the last few months to be on a PTT team. Argueably, that duty is even more challenging than being a MiTT.
Stuff like deployments are hard on a marriage. I tend to think they CAN strenghten them though, not always, but they can. I think that is the case with my wife and I.
I really feel for the Spec Forces fellas that were working with the Iraqis and our MiTT team. Some of them were on their 4th deployment, and one or two on thier 2nd or 3rd marriage.
We would get along great.
Text is sterile and emotions often get confused. The old: godisnowhere. Is it God is now here or God is nowhere?
I was an atheist. My best friend was an atheist. One of my good friends (who is an attorney) looks at the life my wife and I lead and is beginning to think there must be a GOD. I never hold what a person believes against them - unless they are a hypocrite about it!
I don’t get my feeling hurts over this junk. How could I when most of know the price Michelle has/does pay to bring us such fun! That is why trolls like lgm get under my/our skin. Not once, given the opportunity to thank Michelle, does he consider the price she pays for his privilege to post (say on Valentines Day – even if you don’t believe in the holiday, would hurt to show respect given the idea she might and wish her well?). Often, he insults her.
We can get along but if you hook you cart to the pig wagon, expect to get the pig treatment!
Peace!
While the military is the topic of this thread, let me offer my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all the men, women and families of the military that frequent this site. Thank you all for your service protecting us and allowing us the freedoms we enjoy.
Hmm… yes ’tis fun. I really should not have so much fun on this thing and get back to work. *sigh*.
In any case. I believe we are all capable of being civil :).
I really should get back to work. I was swamped today and around lunch a mild anxiety attack diverted my attention and I found myself here. eeshh…
I’d venture an educated guess that the reason why the administration via the Justice Department is playing laissez-faire with seditionists is because they suspect (probably correctly) that the news media focus would fall entirely on the “heavy-handed” and “disproportionate” law enforcement response while saying nothing about the behavior of the newly cast “political prisoners” that triggered it.
Consider, for example, what happened at Kent State: everyone remembers how the Ohio National Guard killed four people, but few seem to recall that in the
riots“peaceful protests” that preceded that incident a considerable amount of property damage (including the burning of the Army ROTC building and assaults on firefighters who tried unsuccessfully to extinguish the blaze) and some injury to persons on and off campus were committed by those whose stated purpose was to “Bring the war home.”The people who are planning the upcoming round of seditious activity may well have something similar in mind. Behave provocatively, even violently, in hopes of triggering any kind of “disproportionate” response from either law enforc
