That site catalogs the gaffes committed by the BBC. No one in Britain takes the BBC seriously anymore. Oh wait, no one well informed takes the BBC seriously anymore.

We have our own BBC here. It is called PBS. We pay for that out of our tax dollars. Here in Knoxville we call it the global warming channel.

How fitting and yet how sad to recall Edmund Burke’s observation that “There were three Estates in Parliament, but in the Reporters Gallery yonder, there sat a fourth Estate more important far than they all.”

What, one wonders, would Burke think of today’s notion of journalism as the Fourth Estate? Perhaps this: that like the BBC in this case, too many journalists have abdicated their honorable role as objective observers of the political estates – in favor of a stakeholder’s interest as players rather than reporters.

What we are witnessing of late with Michelle and others like her who vigilantly and tirelessly point out the errors, omissions and bias of the “mainstream” media, is the creation of what amounts to a “Fifth Estate”: the conservative blogosphere.

Those who say that Michelle isn’t a “journalist” are missing the point entirely. She’s the future of objective journalism. She may not be of the Old Breed, but nowadays that’s a badge of distinction rather than a demerit.

Quis custodiet custodies ipsos?
