Video: God Bless America
If you’re sick of hearing Jeremiah Wright’s hate-filled voice damning America and want to get his vitriol out of your system before hitting the sack, here’s Kate Smith singing “God Bless America” before the 6th game of the 1974 Stanley Cup Finals in Philadelphia.

Oh how I remember those days. The Flyers were unbeatable with Kate singing.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this video. Thanks.
“God Bless America”
“God Bless Kate Smith”
And God Bless you Michelle
Your Words Shine as brite as Kates Voice
Thanks for all you do…….
In the same patriotic vein, here is a link that was forwarded to me of some group called the “Cactus Cuties” singing before a basketball game. I’ve never heard of them before, but this is one of the best renditions of the national anthem that I have ever heard, especially when you consider who is singing:

Stand beside her and guide her with the light from above. That is exactly what we need in America now. Any ol’ jackass can kick down a barn but it takes a real carpenter to build one. Step aside doomsayers. The carpenters are here.
PBoilermaker I ran that one twice. the oldest girl is 13, the youngest,8. I can’t think of anyone or any group that has sung this song better.
Bless these fine young ladies.
PBoilermaker, re; “Cactus Cuties”…
W predicted great gains in 2008 today. After listening to this, I dare to hope.
Thank you.
Whitney’s rendition still gives me chills.
Ahh yes, I remember it like I was 3 years old…oh wait I was.
I do remember when a majority of the country loved their country. Those were the good ole days.
It’s the country’s song, but it’s also her song.
And there comes Esposito to thank her, this video ain’t the greatest but you can’t beat Kate Smith singing the National Anthem!!!
Curt, re; “I do remember when a majority of the country loved their country.”
Let not your heart be troubled… the vast majority still does-we just don’t get air time.
Boilermaker,
Thanks….that was awesome!!!!
I was in Desert Storm during that Superbowl. My brother sent me a letter about how good that was. That was actually the first I’ve ever seen it and it was as good as my brother said….
In America people of color can be Head of the State Department, Chief Justice, and maybe the next POTUS; Yet, still have their Pastors, and wifes spit on America.
I fly Old Glory at the House, and proud of it.
I think the majority of the country still does. They go about their business quietly doing what needs to be done for their country and fellow man, without looking for any glory. The good samaritan, if you will.
It’s the minority that hates the country who has to shout to make their voices be heard and force their views on everyone else, when no one really wants to listen to them.
What a contrast. On my computer listening to her sing that rendition while having to look at Michelle Obama and “rev” Wright on the right side of the screen.
Thank you Michelle Malkin for your love of this country. Wouldn’t it be great to have Kate stand up and sing that at the Democratic National Convention! I know she is gone, RIP, but I’d love to see and hear what went on if that would happened! God truly has blessed America. Woe be tide to those who take that for granted and squander it away for selfish gain and power.
In 1924, when asked to define Irving Berlin’s place in American music, Jerome Kern said he had none: “Irving Berlin is American music.”
Or, if you want to hear Kate sing it in her heyday with a full symphony orchestra backing her, try this link.

P.S. Turn up the volume.
This lady had what musicians call a real “set of pipes” for a voice.
Brings back sweet memories of the Broad Street Bullies and pulling out Kate to sing to guarantee a win. We survived Watergate and Vietnam, but I am discouraged talking to the locals here in S. Fla. who seem to lap up the media’s far left cheerleading and are clueless about Obama. “So what if he is whatever, still far better than McCain and what about Bush/Cheney endless warmongering to help Big oil?” People are clueless. God help us all.
I can listen to Kate until the moon comes over my mountain.
who is kate smith?
#22, are you kidding? But then agan our schools aren’t doing a great job (I say this as a former teacher who frequently got in trouble for digressing out of the History text book). During WW2, this country was very patriotic and scum like the pinkos, world can’t wait, the ws2 group would have all been smacked upside the head for starters and would have been in jail for the duration of the war. Back then we had patriotic actors who went to war, (Clark Gable, BG Jimmy Stewart, Tyronne Power, etc) and actresses like Carole Lombarad (who was killed on a War Bond Tour when her plane crashed) Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Claudette Colbert, etc. who would go to the Hollywood Canteen and spend time dancing and talking to the boys getting ready to go overseas. We also had music that uplifted the country like Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Ella, and Kay Keyser. But Kate Smith was famous for her rendition of “God Bless America” and there were still enough people around in 1974 who appreciated how her music got those who served and those who were on the homefront through the war. I really don’t know if you’re kidding or not but it is sad that WW2 is now a chapter in a text book and much more time is spent on touchy feely things. We have let this happen, we have no one to blame but ourselves.
Right, Terrig. There were “stars” who were on the Left (Henry Fonda), but they had their own opinions, not opinions that had to be on the news every day, or shared with our enemies. Kate Smith was a great singer, and she has been missed. She also didn’t go to Germany during WW2 to man an anti-aircraft gun to shoot down a bomber. The people who served in the war, like my Dad, are leaving us daily. Soon, they’ll all be gone and the war will be forgotten; its lessons lost. Many singers like her, sang for the troops, and really helped morale, not run to Italy to have their pic taken with a dictator. Today, we don’t need a big war to be defeated. We’re doing that to ourselves very nicely. Listening to Smith sing “God Bless America” may soon be lost too, replaced by a singing “Wright” belting out, “God Da** America”.
This video brought a tear to the eye. THE Kate Smith singing THE song–a great patriotic song–that is most associated with her. Poor video quality, voice not what it was, but WOW! And all that applause for Smith is heartwarming too. I wish I had been there.
On September 13, 2001, I had to drive for a business trip instead of fly — for obvious reasons. As I am passing an RV dealer along the Interstate, their sign flashed the following support for the nation:
Ok, so it doesn’t compare to Kate’s signing, but boy did it help lift my spirits for a long cross-country journey.
goosebumps.

Isn’t it too bad she messed herself up with drugs? Thankfully, she’s getting herself cleaned up.

Ironically, a Canadian singer has what, IMHO, is one of the best versions of that song
Awesome Kate Smith and Cactus Cuties - (can’t listen to Whitney just yet.)
Our own Bessie Kvidera sang God Bless America every Memorial Day in the village park where everyone (300+) gathered for a service after the parade. We had many WWII heroes for a little town!
My sister is in Hawaii visiting the Bowfin Submarine Memorial Park and Museum. We were little girls when we became Gold Star Sisters.
An awesome lady! She reigned during the time when we were still a manufacturing powerhouse. Great times had by all.

Go Flyers!
(sniff) Too young to remember the glory days.
Tremendous! Bravo! (standing ovation) Bravo!
Thanks Michelle, that hit the spot.
PBoilermaker: Thanks so much for that link! The Cactus Cuties were incredible in their rendition of that gorgeous anthem and I had to stop after listening to a few of the others because I don’t have enough tissues!
I love you, America, God bless you.
WOW! That Whitney Houston video was incredible. Just WOW! Gave me serious chills and brought tears to my eyes. Makes me wonder if DEMS feel the same way.
Okay. After both of them I am crying like a baby. And I had to answer the phone.
There are people here in the Childrens’ Hospital caring for whomever’s child is sick, despite the Liberal and Academian
Leadership that is pervasive here, that
carry on doing what they love and show their love of country doing it.
I just got word last evening an old coworker’s teenage son will be going either into the police academy or firefighting. The spirit of service lives on in a new generation!
As I recall, Kate Smith was also famous for being one of the first female singers to be associated with a patriotic song, yes?
Geesh…my school was busy teaching me about actual history, not the history of pop culture. Plus, I was 4 years old when she died.
Vintage Duh-I guess duh is the correct name for you. When one teaches History (as a class it should be capped) one teaches the nuts and bolts of the situation but in WW2 the music, movies, etc. was very important to the guys and gals fighting and those on the homefront. Sorry you missed out on that tidbit, it may have added to your overall educational experience.
