    I was in Desert Storm during that Superbowl. My brother sent me a letter about how good that was. That was actually the first I’ve ever seen it and it was as good as my brother said….

    I think the majority of the country still does. They go about their business quietly doing what needs to be done for their country and fellow man, without looking for any glory. The good samaritan, if you will.
    It’s the minority that hates the country who has to shout to make their voices be heard and force their views on everyone else, when no one really wants to listen to them.

We also had music that uplifted the country like Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Ella, and Kay Keyser. But Kate Smith was famous for her rendition of “God Bless America” and there were still enough people around in 1974 who appreciated how her music got those who served and those who were on the homefront through the war. I really don’t know if you’re kidding or not but it is sad that WW2 is now a chapter in a text book and much more time is spent on touchy feely things. We have let this happen, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

    Our own Bessie Kvidera sang God Bless America every Memorial Day in the village park where everyone (300+) gathered for a service after the parade. We had many WWII heroes for a little town!

    My sister is in Hawaii visiting the Bowfin Submarine Memorial Park and Museum. We were little girls when we became Gold Star Sisters.

    Geesh…my school was busy teaching me about actual history, not the history of pop culture. Plus, I was 4 years old when she died.

When one teaches History (as a class it should be capped) one teaches the nuts and bolts of the situation but in WW2 the music, movies, etc. was very important to the guys and gals fighting and those on the homefront. Sorry you missed out on that tidbit, it may have added to your overall educational experience.
