Jeremiah-gate: Glowbama’s losing his glow Update: Report: Obama nodded in agreement last summer

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 15, 2008 01:13 AM

Update: Via The Autonomist

Wright laced into America’s establishment, blaming the “white arrogance” of America’s Caucasian majority for the woes of the world, especially the oppression suffered by blacks. To underscore the point he refers to the country as the “United States of White America.” Many in the congregation, including Obama, nodded in apparent agreement as these statements were made.

Maybe Obama will argue that he was nodding off to sleep and didn’t hear.

obama2.jpg I’ve been tied up on a business trip (thank you to See-Dubya for guest-blogging this afternoon and evening!) and just caught the re-run of Major Garrett’s interview with Barack Obama on Hannity and Colmes.

Wow. You could see Glowbama’s halo flickering. He looked and sounded nervous, shifty, and truth-challenged as he tried to have it both ways with Jeremiah Wright (whom he continued to praise as a “Biblical scholar” and “well-regarded” even as he paid lip service to disavowing him and denied eeeever hearing Wright’s vitriol).

In other words, he looked like a typical politician.

As expected, Obama’s defenders have whipped out the moral equivalence card. Sister Toldjah puts the m.e. card through the shredder and adds:

By the way, I’m calling Barack Obama out on the outrageous lie he told today about not being present in Wright’s church when he made the offensive hateful remarks that have been circulating in the news media this week. As I said earlier, this is like Al Gore’s “iced tea” defense – and similar Bill Clinton’s stupid claim that he “didn’t inhale” a joint when he had one in his mouth. There is absolutely no way in you know where that in his 20 year association/mentorship/friendship with Rev. Wright that he never heard any of Wright’s controversial sermons. BO remarked tonight that had he heard any of them, he would have stood up and told Wright that what he was saying was “unacceptable” and went on to say that had he detected a “pattern” with Rev. Wright’s hateful sermons, he would have left the church. GMADB! He knew. He’s pulling the same ol ‘okey doke’ (see definition 3) that he slams “Washington insiders” for doing.

Much more here and here.

Obama’s minimization strategy–implying that Wright’s diatribes were cherry-picked rarities out of hundreds and hundreds of sermons–also failed miserably. “Black liberation theology” (with all its attendant anti-American pathologies) is Jeremiah Wright’s bread and butter. Wright knows it. His congregation knows it. Obama knows it.

And now, for whatever reason this story finally broke into the MSM after buzzing on blogs and talk radio for nearly a year, the rest of America knows it, too.

Hillary Clinton is a happy, happy woman tonight.

Reader Ken e-mails:

It struck me how much the song “Losing my Religion” is appropriate for Obama:

That’s me in the spotlight
Losing my religion

Oh no I’ve said too much
I havent said enough

Of every waking hour I’m
Choosing my confessions

The hint of the century

The slip that brought me
To my knees failed

David Bernstein at The Volokh Conspiracy quotes from an article in the Christian Century on Trinity Church:

There is no denying, however, that a strand of radical black political theology influences Trinity. James Cone, the pioneer of black liberation theology, is a much-admired figure at Trinity. Cone told me that when he’s asked where his theology is institutionally embodied, he always mentions Trinity. Cone’s groundbreaking 1969 book Black Theology and Black Power announced: “The time has come for white America to be silent and listen to black people…. All white men are responsible for white oppression…. Theologically, Malcolm X was not far wrong when he called the white man ‘the devil.’ … Any advice from whites to blacks on how to deal with white oppression is automatically under suspicion as a clever device to further enslavement.” Contending that the structures of a still-racist society need to be dismantled, Cone is impatient with claims that the race situation in America has improved. In a 2004 essay he wrote, “Black suffering is getting worse, not better…. White supremacy is so clever and evasive that we can hardly name it. It claims not to exist, even though black people are dying daily from its poison” (in Living Stones in the Household of God).

Wright agrees. When I asked him whether white Americans are right to maintain that the racial situation has improved since the days when Africentric Christianity was born, Wright pointed to the racist remarks by radio host Don Imus: “And you say things have improved?”

Echoes of Michelle Obama.

Or vice versa.

Obama’s statement on HuffPo.

Wright says buh-bye.

Newsbusters exposes how the MSM bungled the story and is reminded of 2004:

Why, this late in the primary season, are we still discovering that they haven’t asked any of the hard questions? We are starting to see the same disturbing pattern we saw with John Kerry in 2004. The media didn’t see its job as vetting John Kerry as he told everyone he was the bravest of war heroes. When the men who fought with him on the swift boats told a different story, the media tried to ignore them.

The media was saying “print the legend,” and suggested that when opponents try to vet the Democrat, when they try to do the job a supine media blatantly failed to do, it was then the media’s job to vet the opponents and question their sincerity, not vet the Democrat.

The news media doesn’t see its job as informing the electorate. They see their job as getting the Democrat past the electorate.

    Corrections:

Trinity is part of the United Church of Christ.

It is a mainstream Protestant denomination, not evangelical.

Many here would probably say that it is a very far left Protestant denomination and Trinity is at the far left end of the UCC spectrum.

It is obvious from the comments here and elsewhere that Rev. Wright nevr has and never will preach reconciliation with white America.

Rev. Wright preaches hate whitey. Hate the white corporate oppressors. Black liberation theology. Liberal, Socialist liberation theology.

    *****

    And Obama was not listening.

    Give me a break.

No wonder Obama is rated the most liberal member of the Senate.

Obama is smoothiest talking politician today.

And MSM is going to let him skate, give him a pass, and ignore the story.

Another “Keep moving. There is nothing to see here.”

Juan ripped Obama a new one for trying to pass this off as something he didn’t even know about, after 20 years of attendance there. He said Obama was trying to have it BOTH WAYS, and Juan pulled no punches.

I don’t know how Fox handles deciding what they give transcripts on, but this was a really good example of what I am looking for in a journalist – it showed a lot of integrity, and didn’t try to sideskirt anything about it.

Sen. Obama has gotten a lot of flack for stating he will refuse to wear an American Flag pin and he does not bother to put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem. Based on what this church teaches I can understand now where this is coming from. He has stated he denounces some statements by Rev. Wright, but not his church because he believes in the overall message it teaches his followers and based on that I don’t think he is a good choice for President now.

That is an interesting observation: it took Obama 20 minutes to drop any thoughts of American patriotism, but after 20 years, Hussein has to be dragged kicking and screaming from a church that is so proud of its hate spewing pastor, it sells DVDs of his vitriol (amazing that the press was able to dig this up, huh?). The not so subdued vitriol that pops out of his wife’s mouth is testament that they were into this church and its teachings up to their necks ($22K donations, anyone?).

When confronted with black racism, liberals always respond with the usual “blacks can’t be racist because they don’t have the power” line, or some variation of it. Now, it appears, that response is even less appropriate than ever. If Obama gets elected President, wouldn’t that GIVE them the power?

I did . As a long time watcher of Juan Williams, I know he is a black apologist that will sometimes bend the truth, and interject rumor as fact in political or race discussions. But he is not a racist, and I think this racist church and Obama deeply disturb him. Juan Williams is the type that makes a good neighbor even though you may vote for the other guy. And a good author, also.

That is exactly my point. That Hill/Obama/McCain are bad news for USA. But further, what did Americans expect after rejecting a patriot like Tom Tancredo? With Tom, Americans could not have gone wrong. Tom is strong on all that and more. Yet Americans rejected Tom and now have to suffer the consequences with traitors like Hill, Bill and McCain. Make no mistake, none of the three will think twice selling out Americans. All three and Bush have a proven record of trechery and treason and others, except Tom Tancredo, are no different.
