Hello, dear readers. Apologies for the light blogging this weekend. I’ve been traveling and came down with an awful case of the flu.

What’s on your mind? What’s on your radar screen for the coming week? Talk amongst yourselves. I’m gonna take a Nyquil.

    An Obamanation
    Contributed by Russ Vaughn

    It’s unfair the Obamatons howl,
    To charge guilt by association;
    Our boy has committed no foul;
    He’s just one of the congregation.
    While sitting there twenty long years,
    As the reverend spewed out his odium,
    Naught wafted into those large ears,
    But spittle and froth from the podium?

    No such tirades did I ever see,
    Says Obama now that it’s news;
    No rants about AIDS heard by me,
    Nor venomous bile aimed at Jews.
    You cherry pick dribbles and bites
    From sermons of many long years;
    You say my preacher hates whites?
    My goodness that’s news to my ears!

    But a man picks a church like a wife,
    As a comfortable mate for his soul,
    With commonly shared views of life;
    They are parts of the man as a whole.
    So Obama is welcome to try
    To convince us that his soul is pure,
    But it’s just a political lie;
    He buys into his preacher’s manure.

    Why else then sit in that church pew,
    With children and wife at your side?
    If you truly do not share the world view,
    Of your hate-spewing spiritual guide?
    Yet now you denounce Jeremiah,
    In your quest for power and station;
    He’s a conveniently banished pariah;
    Barack, you’re an Obamanation.

    Did our government conspire to take down the World Trade Center? How about Israel?

    Is there a moral equivalence to U.S. bombings of civilian targets in WWII and the cowardly islamic terrorist attacks on 9/11?

    Ignoring the fact that AIDS is a mutated version of the African simian virus, introduced into this country by a Haitian, did the U.S. government conspire to infect the black populace?

    First, Michelle – get better. The flu is a nasty beast. The best I can recommend is rest (yeah, I know with a family and a job rest is a foreign concept…but try). :)

    This week is going to be a busy one. I work Mon.-Wed., and am off Thur.-Mon. for Easter. Today – Palm Sunday – marks the start of the holiest and most solemn week in the Church’s liturgical year.

    I will be helping at my parish to decorate for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday.

    I am also hosting Easter dinner for twelve on Sunday.

    I have a graduate class on Wednesday night and work for the other graduate class I’m taking.

    Oh, and on Tuesday night, I am part of my brother’s trivia team at Mo’s Irish Pub in Wauwatosa – last time I went, we won. It was awesome (but I have a wicked competitive streak in me, so anytime we win it rocks). ;)

    Saturday afternoon, we have a wedding in Beloit, Wis. Please say a prayer for Josh and Abby as they begin their lives together as husband and wife. Josh is a Marine, stationed in California, and he’s got leave enough to fly in on Friday evening, get married Saturday, visit with family on Sunday and go back to California with his new wife on Monday. Sometime between May and August, he’ll be deployed to either Iraq, Afghanistan, or Australia.

    Saturday evening we get back to Milwaukee for the Easter Vigil mass and then Sunday is Easter.

    Come Monday, I’ll be so exhausted I won’t know which way is up.

    But on the bright side, Wisconsin had relatively mild temperatures this past week (mid-30s to upper 40s) which melted 95% of the snow and it felt like a hint of spring – did wonders for my mental health.

    Anyway, can you tell I have a lot going on? Hope everyone here has a good week and I’ll be around.

    I thought I would offer a book recommendation (writing about Obama and his crazy “spiritual mentor” has now gone way beyond a joke — it is much too depressing). The book is “Blacklisted by History,” by M. Stanton Evans. It is the story of Senator McCarthy and “his fight against America’s enemies” as you have never encountered it before. Evans went exclusively to the original source documents and came away with an incredible tale. The result is as complete a revision of the established picure of the era as you could imagine. The book has been praised and written about extensively by Ann Coulter and I can assure you, having read all 600 pages of it, she is right.

    As a bonus, the subtitle of this book might well be: “The Rise of the RINO.” If you have ever wanted to know how we got into this mess and the Republicans unfortunate contribution to it, this book gives the historical context you need to understand. Unreservedly recommended.

    All we are saying is give enforcement a chance

    By Mark Krikorian

    Illegal aliens are people too.

    And precisely because they are people like any others, they respond to incentives just like anyone else. What we’ve seen over the past year or so is that when government changes the incentives that illegal immigrants face, they change their behavior.

    In other words, immigration enforcement is working.

    Are immigration restrictionists happy? You bet. But regaining control of immigration is a process, not an event. Our approach cannot be to focus intensively on enforcement for a few months or a year and then declare the borders secure and return to business as usual. This is has happened in the past — for instance, after the 1986 immigration law making it illegal for the first time to employ an illegal alien, crossings from Mexico fell until it became clear we didn’t mean it, at which point they started rising again. This would appear to be what Sen. John McCain has in mind when he has spoken of a one- or two-year period of enforcement before implementing his amnesty.

    My own institution has modeled that consistent enforcement with a modest increase in resources over existing plans could reduce the illegal population by half in five years. In the event, maybe the reduction will be only 30%, or maybe 70%. But we can be quite sure that such a strategy of “attrition through enforcement” will work in significantly reducing the illegal population — but only if we keep it up.

    It was buried this week, but during Detroit’s State of the City speech, the embattled mayor played the race card and used the n-word.

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,337348,00.html

    Facing possible perjury charges from testimony during a whistle-blowers’ trial and criticism over sexually explicit text messages he sent to his former top aide, a defiant Kilpatrick lashed out at the media and opponents. He said he and his family have been subjected to racial slurs, as well as threats over the past month.

    “In the past 30 days, I’ve been called a n****r more than anytime in my entire life,” said Kilpatrick, 37. “In the past three days, I’ve received more death threats than I have in my entire administration.”

    I haven’t heard the n-word so often since the last time I watch “Sanford and Son” re-runs. It’s almost fashionable.

    As to BO, anyone who goes to church knows you don’t stay in a church that spews hatered or things obviously opposed to your beliefs. I used to go to a catholic church in Los Angeles, and the day they put up a banner saying “we support gay and lebian pride week [or parade]” was the day I stopped going there, because as a Christian, I believe the act of homosexulatiy is a sin. BO staying in this church for 20 years and his wife spewing similar hatered and anti-American stuff shows me BO believes these things. In my opinion, he is a racist, anti-American, anti-Israel person. I wonder if some of his education in Indonesia and especially a muslim school has embedded some of the anti-Israel feelings that I strongly believe he very likely carries.

    One thing about to get hot: Does the Second Amendment protect an individual right? (Well, Duh!)

    The Supreme Court hears oral arguments on Tuesday.

    Filings and Friend of the Court briefs are DCGunCase.com. From their FAQ:

    At issue in this case are three Washington, D.C. laws that prohibit law-abiding citizens from possessing ordinary, functional firearms like pistols and shotguns in their homes for lawful self-defense.

    1. Washington, D.C. requires that all guns be registered, but has forbidden handguns from being registered for over 30 years. This amounts to a complete ban on the possession of handguns in Washington, D.C.

    2. Washington, D.C. requires that even if one happens to have a legally registered handgun, dating from 1976 or earlier, the gun cannot be moved from room to room within one’s home without a special permit. And permits are not available.

    3. Washington, D.C. requires that all firearms, including pre-ban handguns and lawfully registered rifles and shotguns, be unloaded and either disassembled or bound by a trigger lock at all times while kept at home. The law exempts guns at a place of business, or while the gun is used for recreational shooting, which doesn’t exist in Washington. But there is no exemption for having a functional firearm inside the house, even if someone inside is under attack by criminals. In other words, all functional firearms are banned from the homes of law-abiding Washingtonians.

    Let’s all pray we get “The High Nine,” and not “Nine Boobs in Black!”

    Michelle, I’m on my 9th day of some kind of flu, about done with it but I’m still wheezing. Now when something makes me laugh it turns into a wheezing/coughing horror. So it’s probably for the best you’re not saying anything witty or funny at the moment or I’d be a goner. The worst part is I passed this bug onto a loved one! :(

    I watched Michelle Obama on Cspan today, from a Thursday appearance. Maybe it’s just me but she comes across as Rev. Wright Lite. There are all these references to “they said this” and “they said that”. “They said he wasn’t black enough. Then they said he was too black”. Blah blah blah. Sure, whip up hatred for the unnamed “they”. Blame everything on “them”. Or maybe I just have Wright on the brain today.

    It’s that time of year for bad colds and the flu bug. Plenty of rest is prescribed. Nyquil is fine, as long as the kids/hubby leave you in peace. I wonder when the Clintons will release their tax records, if ever… Seems to me they have something to hide. As for us, we’ll be moving out of No. Virginia by May. We’re heading south to the Norfolk area thereabouts. Got 3 daughters and 2 grandkids there. So next weekend we’ll be taking some time off and start looking for a nice place. It’s sure a whole lot cheaper there. I’ve spent 40 years here. It will be nice to get away and be with some great kids.

    AlkaSeltzer Plus, a bottle of Peppermint Oil if you are not one who is allergic to it, remember it has the qualities of mentholatum that can burn skin if put on the skin lavishly, a drop or two ON the throat – not IN it will clear junk off the throat, a few drops onthe soles of feet will not burn skin, but will decongest the CHEST, and a drop or two on the top of the head will clear head congestion. Handle carefully if you haven’t used it before, it can burn skin, will burn the eyes if fumes get near them. Handle carefully, like onions and garlic.

    IF you miss your meds by a few hours, a 1/4 to 1 tsp of Cream of Tarter from the Spice Rack, normally used in the making of Meringue for pies, in a few ounces of water, is a bitter swallow, but it draws poisons out of the body and has no adverse effects. Used for decades by pioneers of this area of the country by folkse with little or no access to doctors, either for 7 days for minor infections, or once a day every day to stay well – first thing in the morning before other foods or drinks, but will also draw out medications, so give a space of an hour or so before or after other meds or nutrition.
    I recently found out on Jeopardy that Cream of Tartar comes from the first wine barrel of new wine, after the wine is poured to the second barrel, and the first barrel allowed to dry, this is the residue they scrape from the inside barrel sides.

    Get well soon, Michelle, and hope your family stays well, too.

    Oh, you can normally take all the ESTER C you want to, 3-4 1,000 Mg tabs every three-four hours and is like an anti-biotic, and has NONE of the adverse effects of REGULAR C, which is so acidic, that a 250 mg tablet breaks my mouth out in sores.

    Still won’t vote for McCain – still don’t think he is any BETTER than the Dims! No, I don’t think that HIGHLY of THEM – I think that LOWLY of HIM!

    Get well soon Michelle. I am on my 2nd rebound but
    had to add an additional virus to the flu to make it even more interesting. Be sure to change toothbrush

    Need prayers for my sister who is 2 years younger
    than I am and has just been diagnosed with breast
    cancer.

    Much prayers for your sister and all your family and supportive friends.
    We have a cousin and an aunt, opposite sides of the family, now fighting extensive Cancer, too – all are really ready to see some MIRACLES, I can tell you.

    Make sure your sister is off all synthetic food additives, such as margarine or sweeteners including Splenda (“Stevia” is natural and complex keeping blood sugar stable, with zero calories) and find things that pull poisons from the Liver, this will help a lot. But often, Cancer patients may not feel like making the adjustments – I cannot recommend pushing them. But we can pray.

    Dishwasher is a great place for the toothbrushes, and always remember to spray down everything with some Lysol-type disinfectant of your choice, very often, (few times a day, really) – don’t forget phones and keyboards, and doorknobs, etc — and best to just get some plastic cups and paper plates for the duration, while you are at it.

    And for sore throats and such, gargling or swishing, as you can take it, 6 full minutes of SEA SALT kills them nasty critters, not 5 minutes, oddly, but 6 FULL minutes.
    And Saline nose sprays often, may or may not give much relief of stuffiness, but THEY PROVIDE AN UNFRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT for the bug. You can make refills of them with a used-up spray bottle, with Sea Salt and distilled water, too.

    Re: 52 (Bear Stearns)
    Often political blogs ignore the financial stuff that right now looks like the greatest risk to the country. Apparently the Federal Government think that some big investment banks are “too large to fail”, and they might be right… but right now no one has a ballpark on the value of some of the securities bought and sold by these firms (okay thats vague but I’m not an expert, I just read a lot of financial blogs).

    I know a lot of people on the right get ticked off if we say stuff like, “our economy is not doing as well as we think”… but its true. Inflation numbers are cooked, and our economy the past 6 years has been fueled by home values and people withdrawing equity from their home. So even if something like 20% of homes in any given area were sold, the other 80% of the owners benefited in comparable valuation of their homes and were able to use comps to get home equity lines of credits (and other benefits) which allowed them to spend money. Now that home prices are going down (why did we let realtors/mortgage people tell us they only go up?) that trend is happening in reverse… it’s like having a $50k line of credit, maxing it out, and now all of a sudden you’ve only got a $20k line of credit.

    People think this will just be contained to housing… I’m not so sure about it. Also, the Iraq War is costing a lot of money to execute as well. I was for the war in 2003, but since 2006 I’ve had a big problem with the cost… it makes me conflicted, but it will be another driver to stop the Iraq War.

    To answer the question #52… I guess we have to imagine and assume the impact of not bailing them out is worse? I hope inflation doesn’t get too out of hand… even more than it is the past 12 months. It also seems like economists are unsure if we’ll have inflation or deflation, since asset prices are going to deflate big-time… how much did Bear Sterns deflate? Poof goes that money…

    Mexico travel advice- do NOT trust the ice cubes! The water might come from a sealed bottle in front of you, but the ice cubes came straight out of the tap. Also, as per hubby who has traveled to every continent but Antarctica- get some local yogurt as soon as you get off the boat/plane, it often contains what your gut needs to fight the local bugs.
    I wanted to go to the GoE this weekend so much, but am on the 4th day of some really nasty food poisoning (what is it with everyone getting sick around here?) Glad they had nice weather!

    Hi Michelle,

    Hope you get to feeling better soon … despite all of the advances in medicine it is still hard to beat chicken soup, lots of liquids and rest … :lol:

    I find a good trip to a hot tub or a steam bath often helps relax you, cleans your system out and helps with sleeping … of course … a glass or two of a good wine along with that will make it even more effective …

    On the political front … I am still not happy that in his “interview” with John McCain on Thursday night Sean Hannity refused to address the issue of “Juan Hernandez” and went softball on immigration questioning despite his stronger comments on radio and TV …

    I would love to see you get a chance to interview him … I suspect we would get more of our concerns addressed …

    Read the ingredients in Nyquil, Dayquil, whatever. I can only imagine what they put in that stuff.

    What worked for me: cammomile tea, mega doses of garlic and cayenne capsules, and a good spittoon.

    Thank you all for your prayers for my sister. When our youngest son had testicular cancer (guys please

    not supposed to hurt when you bathe or shower) we
    know that had it not been for all of the prayers going
    straight to heaven on his behalf he would not have
    made it. He had so many different types of cancers
    through out his body but when the dr did that hideous
    surgery where you are cut from stem to stern, EVERY

    Just know my sister will have the same good fortune!
