Monday night TMI

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 17, 2008 10:33 PM

We started the day with too much information from the McGreeveys. We end the day with too much information from the new governor of NY and his wife, via the NYDailyNews:

While Michelle Paterson did not speak much Monday, she touched on the subjects of marriage and infidelity in an interview last week with my colleague, Heidi Evans.

“I feel life is very fragile,” she said. “You never know what could happen. That is why you shouldn’t judge people.

When asked if she worried about “other women,” given how much time she and her husband spend apart, she replied, “Not really. I have a philosophy in life: You have to let people live their life. I feel my husband loves me and is devoted to the family. And I know he loves me. I am not going to worry about that stuff.”

He and his wife went to the West Side Days Inn when they were trying to rekindle the romance in their marriage, he said.

They did so after a marriage counselor he used recommended they introduce “new and exciting things” into their relationship, Paterson said, and so they could be alone and away from their children.

“It’s convenient since it’s only four subway stops from my Harlem office,” Paterson said.

Asked if he had used government or campaign funds to pay for any rendezvous with his former girlfriend, Paterson said he had not.

All this, of course, would normally be considered part of the private life of any government official.

But after the sordid saga of Eliot Spitzer, and the ever-wackier escapades of former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey and his estranged wife, Dina, it seems no political leader can escape the magnifying glass that is destined to be placed over his personal life.

    Total overkill.

He’s a remarkable man in his own right, and no need for the personal details.

Vetting, scrutinizing, etc. are proper, but is “complete candor” now becoming the politically correct thing to do?

Aside, I am growing weary of hearing “the first black governor” stuff — compare to TV news anchors … how long has it been since we have heard “the first ___ news person” ??

    Ummm….
    Let people live their life?

I’m no expert, having been married only (just shy of) 31 years (I was 23, my wife was 20 on our wedding day, which was her birthday); but, I thought the point of a loving marriage was that two lives become one.

…Or, did I miss something somewhere?

Maybe what Mrs. Paterson meant was that one spouse should not try to exert total control over the other.
But, that’s very different from saying that the spouse has to be allowed to live his (her) life.

    Somebody please explain.

You go, Gov! And very brave of the Patersons to inform the world of this AFTER the swearing in, but BEFORE the “other woman” cashes in.

Good for New York! We can finally claim our first black and blind governor who cheats on his wife.

Do I smell a “Profiles in Courage” award?

Staying on the topic of sex & politics, Moonbattery found Pastor Wrong’s counterpoint, Pastor Manning. The only thing in common is that both are potty-mouthed.

Pastor Manning calls Obambi the Mac Daddy and pimp of both white & black women. When challenged by other blacks that he was trash-talking Obambi, he counters that one can’t trash-talk trash.

His logic? “Obama’s in-heat-African father went a-whoring after a trash woman, [hence] Obama was born trash.

Moonbattery indeed. Check out the youtube video here

If they agree with the person’s politics…”It’s their private life anyway”. If they don’t agree with the person’s politics, they demand investigations, hearings, and subcommittees. Paterson did it right, as BrianNY said. Confess after the swearing in, before the women hit the news media.

    ooh, the Days Inn…CLASSY!!

Gov. Paterson denies using state or campaign money to pay for liaisons with another woman during a rocky patch in his marriage.

Records show that in September 2001, then-Sen. Paterson’s campaign spent $456.46 for two nights at what was then called the Quality Hotel at 215 W. 94th St.

but, at least he didn’t use state cash…

i wonder if the Quality Hotel was any nicer than the Days Inn?

Wow, so she’s not going to worry about “that stuff?” The stuff she is talking about is honesty, integrity, fidelity and honoring vows that this leader took. She may not worry about “that stuff” but I do. If a man can’t keep his vows to his wife, then how in the world does anyone expect him to do a shred better in his decisions as an acting representative? He took vows of office. I wonder if she cares about “that stuff?”

Come on Andy, I am sure that that video was taken out of context. It is probably a ten minute snippet chosen to incite emotional reaction and does not reflect the sum token of the pastor’s body of life work. Unless you know what all came before and all that came after, we should not judge how Rev. Manning really feels about Obama. Nice job, probably not a link endorsed by the Congressional Black Caucus.

That closer scrutinization may occur is a given, there’s just too much money in it for them to avoid reporting such stories, but “seems” is the operative word: Rest assured the MSM will take great pains not to name the varmint’s political affiliation, as evidenced by both ABC and NBC, if he or she is a Democrat.
