Nickelodeon is at it again
Left-winger Linda Ellerbee is having a field day at children’s network Nickelodeon. First, anti-war propaganda. (More here.) And now, open-borders propaganda (via Lonewacko):
I’M AMERICAN! THEY’RE NOT! Sunday at 9 p.m. Nickelodeon.
Paola is 13. Her sister, Vanessa, is 14. Their brother, Nahum, is 17. They live in a comfortable house in Roswell, N.M.
One morning, they heard a commotion downstairs and found agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) putting their father in handcuffs – the first step toward deporting both parents to their native Mexico.
This story is one of several Linda Ellerbee uses Sunday night in a “Nick News” special to illuminate a troubling consequence of our ongoing response to the complex issue of immigration.
Anyone born in the U.S. is a U.S. citizen, even if his or her parents are not. So if a family stays after a child is born, it’s possible the parents could be subject to deportation while the child is not.
An estimated 3 million children are now in that situation. Any morning, they could wake up to hear their parents being deported.
And then what do they do?
Ellerbee claims she’s not taking sides:
Ellerbee starts the show by stressing that she’s not taking sides in the larger immigration debate, just reminding us of its impact on children.
She visits three families – two where the parents were deported, one where the parents are still here and the children do their homework by flashlight to minimize any attention they might attract.
If she really weren’t taking sides, we’d see a fair and balanced look at families and children whose lives have been torn apart by the bloody consequences of lax immigration enforcement.
Maybe Ellerbee would like to illuminate Nickelodeon’s audience about the Cottonwood school bus tragedy, for example.

Nickelodeon=Crap
I agree with PBoilermaker. Nickelodeon is pretty much synonymous with “crap”.
As if I needed another reason not to have cable TV in my home.
another example of why i stopped letting my children watch this channel quit awhile ago.
I don’t allow my children to watch this channel. I even have it blocked.
Television=crap
I like Nickelodeon if it’s Spongebob Squarepants. Anyway, Michelle, I saw that in the tv listings and I thought of you. Erm yeah, Ellerbee’s at it again. bleh.
Affirmative.
that’s why I hate Nick and all its cretins.
If your children ask why, simply tell them that these kids’ parents broke the law.
Ask them if we should not take action against those who break the law.
Ask them then, why do we make these people’s children legal citizens?
The answer to both you and your children should now become crystal clear.
I remember when Nickelodeon was good. Now it’s just propoganda.
Another one for me to block. Pretty soon, it won’t pay to have cable…
Hhhmm….wonder if Ellerbee can draw this correlation; AZ and NM are in the top 5 in the ranking of “Most Dangerous States to live in” – http://money.aol.com/mortgage/most-dangerous-states
Go to the top 15 and you can add the other two mexican border states of TX and CA.
I use to love Nickelodeon back in the 80’s early 90’s, they had some good shows.
Most of you are right, TV in general is pure crap now anyway.
They’re still on the air?
Great. Now I have to keep an eye what my daughter watches on “kids’” channels. Thanks, Nick.
Illegal citizens.
Due to a bad (and false) interpretation of the 14th amendment, any brat born on American soil magically becomes and American citizen. No other nation in the civilized world does that. So… send these illegal citizens back to whatever crappy third world country they invaded us from along with their criminal invader parents and start applying the Constitution correctly. Problem solved.
What are Ellerbee’s credentials anyway? I think I was about 10 when Nick News started and I remember thinking it was not quite right when I was in my early teens. They did a special when I was 12 or so about global warming and its effects on kids and I know I turned it off (although is was probably not because I was an exceptionally socially aware child but rather because I was bored… and I never liked Ellerbee’s voice.)
Is this the same wonderful network that has the unwed, pregnant, 16-year-old Spears as a star… or does Disney get to claim that honor?
RaisedRight #17
Ellerbee has been around a long time. She has been a reporter on various news magazine shows like 20/20 and is supposed to have some sort of journalistic training. Well if you consider shows like 20/20 journalistic that is.
There is a 3 choice option for families that fall into this category that should be put into law.
1) You can choose to have your deported with you. They will be entered into a database and upon reaching their 18th birthday they can come back provided you haven’t already been granted some sort of residenncy or citizenship prior to that
2) You may leave the children with relatives who are in this country legally until such time as you achieve the legal requirements to reenter this country
3) You give the children to childrens’ services
In all cases the adults are going to leave, period. Let them make the choice what they want to do with the children.
Just because a child is born here in the USA, brought into this world by their Illegal Alien parents doesn’t mean that said child can’t return to the parent’s country of origin with those parents and be raised there until they are an adult, where they can choose weather or not to return here, legally.
I think she started out on a show called 30 Minutes, a CBS News spinoff of 60 Minutes — for kids. I am NOT sure because every time I try to look up information for Linda Ellerbee, i keep getting redirected to the Kool-Aid home page.
Same here. Blocked the channel. Nickelodeon used to be a wonderful product. We even took the family to the studios in Florida long long ago. Now it’s a repository for sluts and commies.
We need a Photoshop competition for a new Nick slogan and logo. Anybody game?
I block this channel. The new TVs are great.
We don’t watch Nick anyway but I went ahead and blocked it.
I’m sorry that their folks broke the law but when you break the law, you gotta pay. If I were to rob a bank, I’d expect to go to jail for a very long time. These people break the law by coming here, (yes, I know little liberals-they’re all good people just trying to make a living), they make sure they have babies once they get here and then they and their anchors help themselves to the bounty of the American Handout System known as welfare. Anchors Away!
That would be too much like real journalism.
Disney, I believe.
It is a sad state of affairs. If there weren’t a handful of shows I really liked, I’d chuck the television all together.
Might just do that, anyway. At least that’s the direction I’m heading.
Echostar at 61.5° is going down. That means no more skyangel and no more TV for the Soap residence.
I can’t say I will miss it.
My daughter HAS to watch Nick. She works at a daycare. She says even SpongeBob is loaded with sexual references. She says the kids do not understand but adults would. Get them early, get them often.
That’s the way I feel. My husband and I watch a few primetime shows like Heroes and Pushing Daisies and The Office, but I often feel like I am so disgusted with the lineup of a network like ABC that it ruins my enjoyment of the one show I watch there. So far our family is just us, but when we have kids I know that there will be channels blocked if we still have cable at all.
“And then what do they do?” Um . . go back to Mexico with their parents. Just because they are ALLOWED to stay here doesn’t mean they HAVE TO stay here.

If I had kids, I might have a TV just to teach them how to do without it. If I had a TV, I still won’t watch twits like this. She’s part of the problem that we can’t get out borders secured – whi-i-i-n-ne!
There, I fixed it for ya.
I thank my God every day that I was born an American citizen. I also thank Him for my wife, who is naturalized, and for our 4-year-old daughter, who was also born here.
Should things have been different, and for some reason, my family and I would not be able to stay in this country, I would not want to be the one to stand between my wife, and our daughter, and tell them they had to be separated.
Those illegal aliens who have kids here, hoping to use them as an anchor, have no family values, no respect for their culture (take the kids back to Mexico and let them learn about their heritage first hand), and no respect for our laws.
To then play the “we’re just hardworking people, trying to do the best for our families” card makes me want to hurl.
The above is from the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. It does NOT say that everyone born in this country is a citizen. Notice the qualification. You must also be “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” Please explain to me how the child of an illegal alien is subject to the jurisdiction of the United States? It is not since its parents broke international law to get here. International law gives every country the right and power to guard its borders and limit entry.
It is the height of conceit to believe that our laws apply to foreign nationals. I’m sure that, say, Brazil would be more than happy to cede its jurisdiction over its citizens to the jurisdiction of the United States. NOT! Don’t forget that when a foreign diplomat or the diplomat’s wife gives birth, the child is NOT a citizen of the U.S. And they are in this country legally! Their children are not born in the embassy which is theoretically part of the home country. The mother is taken to a local hospital to ensure her safety. I am so tired of this “anchor baby” BS.
The original intent of this clause was to force Democrat controlled state legislatures to recognize former slaves as citizens. Nothing more. Remember, every Republican voted for the 14th and 15th Amendments and every Democrat voted against them.
The children in this story are NOT citizens. Ship them home with their illegal parents!
How about the impact her bullsnot is having on actual American children…you know, those little sponges that absorb everything when they’re young? How about transmitting POSITIVE messages about America, and it’s citizens…the MOST charitable people on planet Earth?
Nickelodeon= irresponsible media liberals at their worst. Nothing to see here, kiddies…. now go watch Disney!
Yo emjem,
Is Disney any better? Have not watched in years.
Amen, brother! I’ve been thinking of reviewing my How to Be Your Own Lawyer in Court manual and filing for an injunction in federal court against the unsavory practice of giving citizenship to jackpot babies.
The notion that the authors of the 14th meant to reward the sneaky parents of jackpot babies for infiltrating our country is totally absurd. I’m sure they never dreamed we’d have a president and coyote-in-chief so corrupt and unpatriotic that he would encourage illegal entry to reward cronies of the business world with cheap labor, and a Democratic party so corrupt they would use the jackpot baby program to breed Democratic voters. Yuck, what garbage we have in Washington.
Nah Nah Nah! It’s “God Damned America!!!”
You should know better than that. Most charitable? All the rich white people? I think not. It’s only the last few months that any of us should actually be proud of our country.
(Sarcasm & Quoting Obama’s minister and wife, of course.)
I think it’s “Anchor babies,” Alphonse.
(”jackpot babies” is a new one for me.)
If you really want to get technical over the 14th amendment, JohnH, the whole thing, in reality, didn’t win even a majority vote in the Senate. As far as state ratification went, it was a disaster. 3 northern states recinded their ratification, and all southern states, except Tennessee under threat, refused to ratify. It was only when Congress in March, 1867, used the Reconstruction Act to extort ratification, was it finally okayed. By that it said that states couldn’t be “admitted” back into the Union, unless they ratified the amendment. Yet, what a minute! This is the same Congress who insisted that the southern states were not legally separated from the Union in the first place, and the SCOTUS agreed (Prize cases 1862). 2 states,West Virginia and Nevada, were constitutionally illegal states anyway. It was a very confusing situation and, due to the war, the Constitution was ignored or twisted to fit the situation at hand. A good Constitution lawyer could have a “lot of fun” suing the U.S. over it.
Time for us to have the power to choose our channels and pay for just what we want, not pay for this propaganda. AT&T is very close to offering TV in our area.
Hey Soap:
They own ABC and I rarely (if ever) watch that channel. Disney has its own retread kid channel- The Disney Channel and Hannah Montana is on that one. It’s more like Disney Propaganda 24/7.
I would say that no, Disney is really no different. The way they’ve “sexed up” ABC turning it into the “single chick network” is a good example of what to expect with Disney. Gee, for the days when Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty were seemingly innocent tales of empowerment for women. /sigh
One word~ VeggieTales. And not the sanitized NBC episodes either, where they had to cut out the Bible verse at the end of the show. That is all my toddler will watch/is allowed to watch. And when her baby brother or sister is born and becomes a toddler, that’s all he or she will watch too.
P.S. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to those who celebrate today! I didn’t get the memo.
Another great way to teach your children about the liberal media – without letting them watch that drivel, of course.
“Yes Virginia, there is an ICE. And occasionally they show up to enforce the law. What’s that sweetie? Oh, you are right – ICE shows up just about as often as Santa and the Easter Bunny.”
Does Linda mention what happens to the kids whose dads couldn’t keep their business open since Paola, Vanessa, and Nahum’s father didn’t pay for insurance and other such things?
No?
Really?
Sure glad she’s not taking sides.
This is one of the 8,000 reasons I do not let my child watch Nickelodeon anymore.
No that is Zoey 101 and it is Nickelodeon.
I’m with you. I pretty much watch the Fox News station until “On The Milk Cartoon with Greta” comes on. I like her but can’t stand the content of her shows. Aruba Aruba Aruba, Anna Anna Anna, and it’s all speculating news and not breaking news, as they call it.
It’s like the cable company has me paited into a corner, I got to by a highere package in order to get Fox. And here in So. Cal, it appears the majority of the channels are in Espanol anyway.
She had a pro gay-rights show about 5-6 years ago. the premise was harrassment of the children of same-sex couples. There were about 12-15 kids and 4 adults.
Three of the kids said their religion (Christian, Muslim, & not sure) spoke against homosexuality, but that neither the parents nor their kids should be harrassed. All of the other kids had same-sex paents. One of the adults and several of the other kids said they wished the other three were more “open-minded” (The liberal definition of close-minded is to believe something other than the same thing the liberal believes.)
Two of the adults were identified or identified themselves as being gay the first time they spoke. The remaining adult (besides Ellerbee) who was a school principal was not identified as gay until nearly the end. So other than Ellerbee, all of the adults were gay. No adult spoke from the position of the religious children.
Jerry Falwell had provided a short monologue, but had tried to get it removed before the program aired becuase IIRC he claimed they had misrepresented themselves beforehand. A GLADD spokeswoman spoke right after Falwell and refuted what he said. Falwell was not allowed to follow-up.
The main source of information for the program was GLADD.
The program was promoted in the print, online, & on-screen TV guide as simply “News”. The morning before it was air I posted a message on the Nickelodeon website simply asking if anyone had heard that such a show was to be aired. A couple hours later I checked back and my message had been deleted.
A pro-gay agenda program was slipped in front of very young kids, with no notice to the parents who might have objected. In fact they made every effort to hide it from the parents ahead of time.
Linda Ellerbee should stick to hocking Maxwell House coffee.
Anyone remember those commercials? They looked like regular newscasts. Linda reported :
“Today’s top story- more people prefer the taste of Maxwell House coffee. ‘It tastes rich’ they say.”
These were real commercials. I’m not making this up.
I would normally be skeptical of saying a TV station leans one way because of a political agenda. They are in it to make money not be politicians, but in the case of Nickelodeon which is owned by Viacom, we see a big disparity in contributions. According to the latest statistics at Opensecrets, 99% of their donations went to the Democrats. With the only contributions to the GOP coming from Viacom itself and Blockbuster, the rest of their subsidiaries went right to the Dems with the biggest donations coming from BET and Kingsworld productions. I’d say this is a good case for pushing an agenda…
That’s a good one. Linda’s only 14 days early for April Fool’s Day.
LOL thunderbird #53. Isn’t it April’s fools day everyday for these nuts?
I just blocked it. My granddaughters have plenty of other channels to choose from.
I’m so glad my kids outgrew Nickelodeon. In the beginning it was fun but crap like this lost it for me.
Don’t watch=don’t complain. Just ignore it.
How about featuring the children of people murdered by coyotes and violent criminals who made it across the border? I guess it’s too much to ask.
This is precisely how dictators, fascists and opressive regimes stay in power: indoctrinate the children. Look at Castro, Hitler, Chavez, Dear Leader, etc.
Why do you think that the liberals infest higher education? Education as a whole? (Hint: it is not only because they can’t cut it in the real world).
Now they are working their way into our children’s minds via formerly innocent children’s television shows. They have been doing with cartoons for years.
The only way to counter this is to watch it with your child, and then explain to them the errors and fabrications. It won’t be long before they can do it themselves and your job is done.
Well, I don’t agree with breaking up families for immigration reasons, but I’m tired of the one-sided view of Nick and this woman.
isn’t that like a left winger moonbat… planting herself to brainwash little kiddies..
I can see why people use a DVD player.. for content control..
Am I really the first person to point out they’re staging a show about illegal “aliens” in Roswell, NM? HA! That’s awesome.
They could add in a conspiracy theory part about other “aliens” in Roswell that the gov’t is covering up. Kill two birds with one stone. *nyuk nyuk nyuk*
This channel has been blocked from my grandkids access for over two years. As soon as they started their parent bashing, that was the end of the ‘kiddie propaganda’ watching.
So, the parents come to the USA to have anchor babies and it’s the USA’s fault if the families get broken-up?
Madness.
Do these networks understand they are running a business for ratings? It looks like now I have to block Nickelodean? They are suppose to entertain children not indoctornate children.
I remember the good old days when Nick had shows like Ren and Stimpy and I even enjoyed it!! Now they read like the alphabet networks and that is a real crime. Ellerbee is worn out and should have been out to pasture long ago. Her tired old “not taking sides” while presenting things just like she wants them to be perceived is only the latest example. And to think, at one time I liked her and even agreed with her – guess I grew up and she didn’t?
JohnHolliday said:
Basically you are subject to the jurisdiction if you are subject to the laws of the U.S. That means that if you are a diplomat with certain diplomatic immunity, then you are not subject to our laws and jurisdiction. If you have diplomatic immunity and commit a crime, the most the U.S. gov’t can do is expel you. And any children born to you while you are residing here are therefore not citizens. But if an illegal immigrant commits a crime, we can throw them in jail and prosecute them in accordance with our laws. Since that makes them subject to our jurisdiction, their offspring would qualify under the 14th Amendment to be citizens.
I’m a conservative but man, you guys are extreme! Block the channel that gave us Ren and Stimpy, Invader Zim and Spongebob Squarepants?! You have to be kidding!! Just because of that stupid, insipid Nick News show? Hell to the no!
I sit there and I explain to my kids where the truth ends and propaganda begins, so that when they encounter all the other kids who are being indoctrinated by that show, they’ll be armed with the facts and can enlighten their classmates.
We have to arm our children with knowledge, and that doesn’t mean shield them from the lies. We have to SHOW them the lies and identify them as such. We are the parents.
Besides it’s gleeful fun.
