Tacoma after-action report

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 17, 2008 10:58 AM

Byron Dazey attended the Tacoma recruitment center protest this weekend. The moonbats had threatened to shut down the station. Dazey has an excellent photo essay and reports:

The fifth anniversary of the Iraq War is coming up, and so the usual gaggle of communist front groups came down again to “shutdown” the Recruiting Center at the Tacoma Mall on March 15th, 2008, but this time they had a surprise waiting. The place was already packed with military families and supporters.

Awesome:

Much more here. And from 29Victor.

Commenter USN RET was also there and e-mails: “The anti war side was outnumbered about 2 to 1…Despite the directive telling them to stay away, some active duty people did show up in civies…the recruiting office maintained its normal working hours. And when I went in (they had coffee and doughnuts) it appeared someone was signing up. Also the pro troop side got a lot of support from passing motorists. Judging from the full parking lots the protestors also failed to shut down the mall as they promised.”

5Views has a full report and photos as well.

When real Americans stand up against the far left liberal loons and communists, we far out number them. It’s just that most of the time, we are at our jobs supporting our families.

I noticed that this story didn’t get much play in the msm. I wonder why? /sarc

Ah, once again - OUR TROOPS!

I long for the day when I see double the strength in civilians of the troops, supporting the troops, and see the civilians spitting on the protesters like they deserve to be spit on.

I heard someone posted an old old old account the other day, of a time when the civilians in the days just before the Revolution got hold of some crooked taxgatherers for the King and poured hot pine tar and feathers all over them and ran them out of town.

Some day, our nation will return to common sense.

These anti-war protesters have a right to petition the government and have meetings protesting the war, and to have demonstrations in front of political offices letting the govt know how they feel.
They don’t have a right to violence, and they don’t have the right to attack regular citizens, whether they be other civilians, or military personnel, or policemen and firemen and EMS attendents, etc, and nothing in our Constitution makes them think they do.
And they do NOT have the right to DISRUPT the legitimate activities of other citizens or legitimate govt functions.

And when they get their marching orders to attack violently “in protest” of policies THEY LOST THE VOTE ON, from Joseph Stalin… they should be charged with sedition and treason. PERIOD!

Joseph Stalin: “America is like a healthy body, and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we (communists) can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within.”
    Communist Goals (1963)
    Congressional Record–Appendix, pp. A34-A35
    January 10, 1963

    16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

    34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

    42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use “united force” to solve economic, political or social problems.
    43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

Yep, that’s one of our weaknesses; conservatives feel an obligation to WORK for a living while the protesters are generally milkfed basement dwelling joint rollers. On the way home from work on payday though, it might not dent into the schedule too much to stop by your local recruiting station and thank them personally. Show them you’re serious by bringing coffee or fast food gift cards. For their safety and convienance, DON’T bring them food and drink; gift cards are much safer and less likely to be contaminated by hippie germs.

    It was a hoot!

I wasn’t there for the dramas that Byron caught (shucks). Thanks Byron.

I got there at 12:30, yelled back at the protesters for a while until a biker gentleman, who looked like he knew a lot more about these things than I did, told us that that was a bad idea. Then I went home, got my camera, came back and started snapping pictures.

I tried to capture the comparative sizes of the crowds as much as I could to show how out maned the protesters were. It was just so awesome to see so many people supporting the troops who, for the most part, had found out about the protest from blogs and other non-traditional media. The protesters were organized and had (according to some patriots) brought folks in from Olympia, and yet we doubled their numbers and foiled their plans.

Due to the large patriot turnout, the protest completely backfired on the protesters. The recruiting station was never in any danger of being shut down. The recruiters weren’t discouraged, if anything they were encouraged by the large pro-military turn out, the people waving flags and the drivers honking their horns in support. And, due to the wall of patriots between the protesters and the road, motorists couldn’t even seen the protesters. In fact, for the most part, the only people who did see them were the patriots and the police. Anyone driving through the mall parking lot would have thought that the whole thing was a pro-military rally. And, after the protesters left three hours early, that is precisely what it was.

I don’t mind admitting that I was nervous about going. I’ve never been to something like this before and didn’t know what to expect. I thought that there would be a lot more protesters and that my presence wouldn’t make much of a difference.

But I’m so glad that I went. It was an experience that I’ll remember the rest of my life and if the opportunity presents itself again I intend to jump at it. I don’t know if my presence made any kind of “difference,” but I was one more person showing the recruiters that there are people who very much appreciate what they do. I was one more person showing the protesters that they are outnumbered. And now I have the opportunity to give a first-hand account of it.

The local press is reporting that there were 150 people (combined) at the protest. What they (shockingly) fail to mention is that there were 100 patriots and 50 protesters. And the SDS website is reporting:

Seeing as the ratio of protester to counter-protester in Tacoma was something like 2:3 we decided to ask them how they heard and why they came out. Tacoma has one of the largest JROTC and ROTC programs on the West Coast, with every high school participating. Many of the protest organizers were high school students, college students, veterans, teachers, and concerned community members, while the internets and radios organized the counter-protester protest.

Which is full of outright lies. The ratio was 1:2 not 2:3, there weren’t many high-school students on our side at all, I don’t know about the rest of the patriots (but most were middle-aged), and neither did the SDS “reporter.” And I know of no “internets and radios” organization of the counter-protest.

They are just playing down their low turnout and our high turnout. It was their side that was full of High-Schoolers (and younger), and that was organized (they had their own van, with DoD tags, strangely enough).

And now I can report those things, because I was there. And I have pictures to prove that what I’m saying is true.

I’m writing all of this to encourage everyone who reads this to GO. If you hear about something like this in your area GO. Please. You will be one more person encouraging the troops. You will , in turn, be encouraged by the presence of so many patriots, so many people who took time out of their busy schedule to stand up for our troops. You will also be encouraged by seeing, first hand, what a bunch of pathetic losers the other side is (it really was pretty sad). You won’t regret it, I promise.

And bring a camera. And report back.

And I just took another look at the SDS page for the protest and noticed that the page is entitled:

“Tacoma Mall Shut Down Protest”? How pathetic. They didn’t have enough people there to shut down a 7-11.

Victor, you’re absolutely correct when you said going to something like this is something you won’t regret. I also learned at my first counter protest it’s better not to say anything to those goons, just let them show themselves for the a$$es that they are. It’s also interesting that there was a group of anti-war people with DOD tags but not unusual. They’re there, they’re the ones who are always crying in their beer about something; not enough pay, prices to high at the px or commissary, dad’s gone or dad’s home, et. al. They think they’re very haughty with their little protests as well. I don’t know if any of you watched that Lifetime show “Army Wives” but they made a great deal of some high ranking officer kid protesting the war and how wonderful it was. These types are there and generally aren’t fun people to be around even when there isn’t a war going on.
I’m greatful to all those who were able to go. I know it meant a lot to the recruiters. God Bless you all! :)
