Conyers to impeachment mob: Wait ’til after Nov. 4
They’ll swing the noose…after Bush is out of office:
At a gathering of liberal activists in Washington on Tuesday, Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) was asked if he would commit to holding the Bush administration accountable once a Democrat is in the White House and illegal acts have been pinned on President Bush.
“Yes, you have my word on that,” Conyers replied. He then shook the questioner’s hand as a sign of his commitment.
Conyers, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, told an audience at the liberal Take Back America Conference that he is wrestling with the idea of beginning impeachment proceedings against President Bush and Vice President Cheney, but he believes that such an effort might hamper Sen. Barack Obama’s chance of winning the presidency.
However, Conyers guaranteed his liberal audience that he will pursue legal action against Bush after the November elections.
…When Cybercast News Service asked Conyers to clarify the statement, he said, “I am afraid they would raise it in the campaign, and that they will use it against us, and that we would end up getting McCain. I would regret that for the rest of my life,” he said. “That’s the only reason. That would be my fear.”
But Conyers told Cybercast News Service this does not mean the Bush administration will not be held accountable. “We can win this election and go get these guys afterwards. But we just don’t want to jeopardize November 4th,” he said.
Well, they’ll always have Brattleboro.

Politically stupid. If we have a Dem in office (which is more likely than not), we are going to want America to focus on change. Why bring back memories of past administrations? It makes Dems look petty and weak.
WOW, that’s keeping a promise. It should read…..
“just wait ’til you get us elected, then we’ll ignore you again and do nothing…..”
This is the lamest excuse to hide the truth that I’ve ever heard Conyers utter (and I’ve heard him say some dilly’s)!
He isn’t pursuing impeachment because he knows the American public is against it, and this entire
speechspiel of his is nothing more than an appeasement to the keep the lynch ‘em left in line behind the Democrats and away from Nader.ummm…Rusty…the dems are petty and weak.
I say: Reference Pulosi and all the promises she made. Hmmmmm, Probably not gonna happen!
Wow, there’s nothing like preserving the “integrity” of your case by postponing it until AFTER the people’s opportunity to throw you out by your ear!
There, I fixed it for ya.
Accountable for what? Save me the tired old Bush Lied, [somebody, especially, chiiiiilllllldren] Died mantra. If that’s the worst, then spare me (and the rest of the responsible American taxpayers) your endless droning.
By the way, Congress, how’s that budget working? Got the fence built yet?
Now those are grounds for action!
Can’t we just remove this fossil, Conyers, from the record? Conyers should be impeached for wrongful impersonation of a human being. He’s attached himself to the body politic for decades sucking the lie-giving juices from the citizenry.
Lawyers, lawyers and more lawyers. That is all that the Democratic party is. We have a sue happy nation and we can all thank the Dems for that. When will they start working for the good of all rather than just fill their libidos with hate?
As much as I loathe Pelosi, one reason I prayed that the Dems wouldn’t capture the House in 2006 was that I would have to spend precious years of my life (again) watching that odious Henry Waxman pop up on the daily news nostrils flaring in outrage about something or other.
Yeah, but that’s what Dems do best Tigger, that’s what they do best.
Don’t worry. President Obama probably will walk away from investigations of Bush, Jr. just like President Clinton walked away from investigations of Bush, Sr. One of the first things President Clinton did was to promote national healing by putting a stop to Iran Contra investigations.
The Dimocraps should work as hard for FISA.
Fixed it for ya.
tall poppy syndrome.
What does this remind you of? Socialism comes into power and any political opponents are arrested and tried. The Iraq war is the excuse but the real reason is to establish full power…Joe Stalin would love it. Take control and get rid of anyone who is opposed.
YES! The Dems are petty and weak. I am sure Hope and change my ass, crash and burn most likely.
Gee … and all this time I was under the impression that they just want to MoveOn.

“Promote national healing?” Try, “promote ending the investigation before the Mena, Arkansas airfield brought the entire investigation to his front doorstep.”
Yes, Mr. MORALITY, the same guy that uses his congressional staff to baby sit the kids on the weekends, drive them to school and pick them up, do his laundry, and run errands for his wife. Oh yes, the same wife who said Monday that she simply doesn’t see that Kwame Kilpatrick of “text message-sex fame” has anything to be ashamed of and should not even consider resigning as the mayor of Detroit despite the 9 million dollars of taxpayer money he spent trying to keep his affairs out of the public eye.
It is refreshing to hear that Conyers is willing to put his moral and ethical indignation aside for the good of Obama and a democrat victory in November. If doing the right thing screws up the election, then you darned well better not do it. I think Teddy Roosevelt said that when he was running for the presidency or was it Lincoln? Whatever.
Lord, have we hit bottom yet?
And the way Bush ‘43 walked away from continuing the investigations into the criminal activities of the Clinton mob. Which is the direct reason that they are still around, still engaged in the same old illegal moneygathering. If Hillary manages to steal the presidency, I wonder which religious cult she’ll massacre next?
Have none of these morons thought to ask how exactly you can impeach someone who’s no longer in office?
Or by “legal action” is this clown honestly suggesting he means to have Bush arrested?
Here’s the real kicker these knuckleheads need to realize: even if we grant their absurd premise, even if everything they say about Bush is true, he’s still done nothing illegal. The President has the constitutional authority to go to war, legally he doesn’t need a reason. Bush could legally order an invasion of Ireland tomorrow if he feels like it. It would be foolish and tragic, but not illegal. And even if Bush lied, that’s not illegal either.
These nutjobs have taken their policy differences and blind hatred to absurd lengths. Such a shame some of our elected officials encourage them.

If there were even a shred of evidence for this it would be on Fox News 24/7.

The Clinton persecution did not stop in 2000.
For the millionth time Mr.Conyers, the fact that you don’t agree with Bush’s policy in Iraq DOES NOT MAKE HIM A CRIMINAL!!
Fixed that for ya.
Look, I understand if you’re a Clinton supporter. I don’t agree with it, but I understand it. What I can’t understand is how you can possibly believe that family hasn’t been hip-deep in shennanigans for 30 years now.
If you want to say you support them in spite of their incessant shady dealings, fine. But to assert that there isn’t any shade just makes you sound delusional.
maybe we should imprison the Clintons….Lord knows they have much to be held accountable….lets just say if it were you or me, we would be in jail.
So, Mr. Conyers, you think Bush should be impeached for so-called lies. Which aren’t even lies anyway, it’s just things you don’t agree with. But it was okay for Clinton to lie UNDER OATH because it was just about sex. Can you please outline for me clearly when it’s okay to lie and when it’s not? I obviously am too slow to tell the difference.

It occurs to me that one reason they might not want to impeach President Bush is that they know that they can’t convict, and that most likely he will come out vindicated. It is easier and a lot more useful politically to smear and spread half-truths then to try and prove things in a court of law. It also keeps them looking halfway sane to the majority of the population, while appeasing the moonbats, of course…
There is new secret evidence.
Wrong. The Iran Contra investigation was concluded completely a few months before the 1991 election. The results were held back until after the election because the democrats running the investigation didn”t want GHW Bush to get any bounce in the polls from being exonorated.
Conyers would sink the ship to scrape the barnacles off the hull..
Leadership? haaa!
If the Dims try to impeach Bush, I would say it would be a fine time to exercise the 2nd Amendment for the purpose it was written.
I’m sure that they have all the evidence they need to impeach…..so impeach everybody who voted for the war, after all
THEY are the smartest people on the planet, surely THEY knew it was a lie before THEY voted for it..

Freudian slip?
I say they can “impeach” Bush or investigate him for all I care, ONCE these liberals get rid of all illegals.
Then maybe….just maybe they can gain some credibility.
Raging–I think that Rusty is NOT weak, and often isn’t petty. While I usually disagree with him, his comments (and those of lgm) keep the comments section from being merely preaching to the choir. While he may enjoy stirring things up for his laughs, and not all of his statements are as well supported as all of us would like, he does contribute to many discussions.
I wish the democrats had plans and alternatives that helped the nation as they do on investigations. They are far from JFK who used to say IKE is doing fine but WE CAN DO BETTER. JFK had more plans in his little finger then the whole Demo lot today.
