The “typical white person” comment was an inocuous remark made off the cuff. Are we going to do the Jesse Jackson game and play “gotcha racist!”? If so, we’re just perpetuating the same bad habits that continue to silence meaningful discussion.
I’m kind of happy to see the shoe on the other foot for a change, though. But we still should rise above it.

Yes, exposing the great obamassiah’s stereotyping of people of pallor is racist since you are ridiculing him. Btw, most whites all look the same to me- must be a Caucasian thing. When I had to list my race on my government lackey job papers I would put “Human” and for sex “Occasionally”. What is this proccupation with hues anyway?

Many years ago PBS did a show with Bill Cosby sitting there under a light that kept changing colors while he lambasted various ethnicities with stereotypical observations on kikes, spics,micks, dagos..you name it, even the dreaded N word people.
I don’t agree. I don’t think there was anything inocuous about it. It’s how Obama thinks. You don’t go to a racist church for 20 years and listen to the rantings of a radical race hater like Wright unless you agree with what’s being said. Obama can protest all he wants, but it just doesn’t wash. He could have left or he could have protested the hate. Obama did nothing. That says volumes about him and his wife.
Instead of “typical white person” can the t-shirt read the following: “typical, America-loving, patriotic, multi-ethnic, white person?” Would that cover all of Obummer’s bases? It’s not racist yet accounts for the multiple cultures and enthnicities that “white people” embody.
Let me know if any of you guys/gals want to add anything…:)

The double standard that only one side of this issue is permitted to observe will prevent any real discussion on this topic.
The MSM has been absolutely giddy in praising the Obamas. There should be an award given called “The Guilt ridden apologetic white liberal award” for the most effusive, sycophantic pro-Obama suck up by a liberal journalist. My top nominee would be Jonathan Capehart of the Washington Post. NBC actually had Capehart on its news program to provide an “objective analysis”. Capehart called the Obama speech “Barack Obama’s gift to the American people”. Capehart was so over the top in his lavishing of praise on both Obamas that Capehart seemed almost libidinous.
Second place would go to Chrissie Matthews who said “Barack Obama is us” and then Matthews suggested that in onehundred years from now, Americans will be reading Obama’s speech. I doubt even Matthews could top Capehart in Obama sycophancy but he came close. When it comes to Obama suck up, Jonathan Capehart of the Washington Post leaves everybody in the dust.
Next week will he say ” I have some white friends”?
Pretty much. The next time you see a black coworker do something bad, publicly point them out as being a “typical black person” and see how long it takes to get an EEO complaint.

Just a heads up for those who aren’t deer hunters: The “non-typical” reference is to the form of the antlers on a buck. There are “typical” and “non-typical” forms of antlers, a distinction related to “scoring” the rack under rules of hunters’ societies.

…..I would like Chrissy Matthews to answer these questions…when his leg isn’t tingling.
I’d like to ask, what is a typical white person anyway? I’ve met a whole lot of white people, and no two seem the same. I’ve met a whole lot of black people too, and no two seem the same. I guess it’s hard for me to be stereotyped into a behavior. When I worked as a medic in D.C., back in the 80s, I used to walk down the street to work, through a, not so good, neighborhood, at night. Maybe I was just naive and dumb, but if anyone said anything to me, it was always, “Hey, doc”. “How ya doing, doc?” Maybe today, I’d get mugged, who knows? But, to all you posters who are not white…if you think “white”, you are “white”. That’s what Wright, Jackson and Sharpton would say. Black people (like Michael Steele, Larry Elder, Tom Sowell) are used to being called an “oreo”. Maybe it’s the same for Hispanics and Mediterrean people.
Are you capable of reading more than three words in a row before having a tantrum? I really wonder.
If you read or listen to the whole paragraph (it takes two minutes), you will learn that Obama respects his grandmother and his picture of a “typical white person” was not a negative stereotype.
Obama is trying to say something about ending racial tension in America. You don’t want to hear it so you drown it out with huffing and puffing over three words in a row you don’t like. Grow up.
lgm, if Obama respected his grandmother he would have left her out of it. Instead he pointed out that she is a typical white racist. If he want’s to end racial tension he will immediately get back on the Television and denounce Wright as a racist. Not make excuses for him. Instead he tries to tell me that I don’t understand black church services. That means, that this is all my fault for not understanding that black people mean something good when they say God damn America. If you buy that crap then you have no reasoning ability which would illustrate your IQ level. Of course this does clear up for me whether you are really a professor or not. No reasoning ability = college professor.

He often refers to improved veterans’ benefits, more regulation of lobbyists, and health care (in Illinois).

And just what would those be? What I have heard does not rise to the level of an accomplishment. Yes, he votes in the Senate. So do 99 other Senators.
Impreived veteran’s benefits? Give me a break. As I recall, he voted against the appropriations bill for the troops. I suppose leaving our troops without the means to fight and defend themselves is offset by voting for greater death benefits to their next of kin.

Donna Brazille (sp?) commenting on CNN tonight said Barack was not African American. She said he is half white, mother from America and has a father from Kenya. Interesting perspective. Her parents are black but Americans but she considers herself African American! Go figure. Is it a purity issue here? I thing this is part of his problem. Identity and acceptance. His skin color gave him acceptance in a certain community and he chose to adopt a segment of that block of people that stereotypes white people. During his campaign he did well with his “white” educational background to mask some of his culturally ‘learned’ baggage until the wheels started coming off his bandwagon. Under pressure he lets out snippets that reveal his life’s experiences and deep belief system.
lgm, “typical white person” is not negative necessarily and neither is “Black people sure can dance!” .. BUT both are racism plain and simple. I learned this in my tolerance classes.
If only Obama would have come out and said that Reverend Wright’s comments were not only wrong but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity; racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve a set of monumental problems – two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy, a chronic health care crisis and potentially devastating climate change; problems that are neither black or white or Latino or Asian, but rather problems that confront us all.

I reject those who suggest we have ginned up these bogus issues because we have lost the American public on the war, the economy and the culture wars. It’s just not true. This Obama white grandmother/radical pastor business is a real important issue facing the American public. I’m glad that Fox has devoted itself to delivering negative Obama news 24/7. Even Greta is getting into the act. He must be stopped!
The people with whom you associate are very good indicators of judgment and character. To maintain a 20 year association with someone who you know is an outspoken racist and bigot speaks volumes about your own beliefs.
Any position withing the military or federal government requiring a security clearance requires extremely detailed information on every placed you have ever lived, every church, club or organization to which you belonged, and every activity in which you have engaged. All of that information is checked and screened, your former neighbors, roommates and club members questioned, and the organizations to which you belonged are investigated for any anti-American bias.
The reason this is done is that your associations reveal a great deal about your biases and beliefs.
Now Obama is trying to convince us that he should not be held to the same standard as those he will hopefully command or manage. He has cast his own grandmother in such a manner that to accuse Wright of racism, his grandmother must also be a racist in his carefully crafted house of cards.
Obama has denounced the words of the man, but not the man himself. In doing so, it gives his supporters a life preserver to claim Obama has stated he does not believe the things Wright has said. However, the fact that he continued to hand with the guy form 20 years and never said a word until now makes his denials lack any measure of credibility.
Obama is a slick hypocrite, whose words mean absolutely nothing. Look at the statements of Samantha Powers regarding his intentions on Iraq. Look at the backdoor assurances made to the Canadian government that he really was not serious about what he was saying on the campaign trail about NAFTA. His denouncement of Wright is nothing more than “campaign rhetoric”, just like his statements regarding Iraq and NAFTA.
Mark my words. In the coming weeks there will be more outrageous comments surfacing made by Wright. And those statements will raise more questions about Obama’s character, judgment and credibility.
