The Resurrection, El Greco
Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate this joyous day.
The messages from the Pope and newly baptized Magdi Allam, a Christian convert from Islam, say it all this morning:
The Pope has marked Easter Sunday with renewed calls for peace in Iraq, the Holy Land and Tibet.
A white canopy on the steps of St Peter’s Basilica protected the 80-year-old pontiff from downpours, while thousands of pilgrims, tourists and Romans under a sea of umbrellas braved thunder and rain to attend Easter Mass in the square.
At Easter, Christians celebrate their belief in the resurrection of Jesus two days after he was crucified. Thanks to the apostles’ preaching about the resurrection, “thousands and thousands of persons converted to Christianity”, Benedict said.
“And this is a miracle which renews itself even today,” the pope said, hours after a Saturday night Easter vigil service in which he baptised seven adults.
Allam’s conversion will set off the usual promptings of apostasy fatwas from the Religion of Perpetual Outrage:
The converts included Magdi Allam, a prominent journalist and commentator in Italy who has received death threats for his denunciations of Islamic fanaticism.
Allam, 55, deputy editor of Corriere della Sera newspaper, was born a Muslim in Egypt, but was educated by Catholics and says he has never been a practising Muslim.
He wrote in a front-page letter published on Sunday in Corriere that he was now taking on the middle name Cristiano - Christian in Italian.
He expressed his gratitude to Benedict, calling Saturday “the most beautiful day of my life”.
Allam wrote: “The miracle of the resurrection of Christ reverberated in my soul, freeing it from the shadows of a preaching where hate and intolerance toward he who is different, toward he who is condemned as an ‘enemy’, prevailed over love and respect for your neighbour.”

Catholics in Qatar worship in fear of retaliation by Muslims:
Qatar’s first Christian church has no cross, no bell and no steeple.
And when thousands of worshippers gather at Our Lady of the Rosary to mark Easter, they pray no one will notice.
“The idea is to be discreet because we don’t want to inflame any sensitivities. There isn’t even a signboard outside the church. No signs at all,” said Rev. Tom Veneracion.
For Qatar’s fledgling Roman Catholic community, the sprawling $15-million, dome-shaped building, a 15-minute drive into barren desert is a victory, built with the blessing of the current emir.
But critics in this devoutly Muslim country call it a desecration, with a militant website last week threatening retaliation against the congregation. One former politician has called for a national referendum to decide its fate.
Lahdan bin Issa al-Muhanada, a popular columnist in Doha’s Al-Arab newspaper, argues: “The cross should not be raised in the sky of Qatar, nor should bells toll in Doha.”
Abdul Hamid al-Ansari, the former dean of the Islamic law school at Qatar University, is among the church’s most staunch defenders, writing that having “places of worship for various religions is a fundamental human right guaranteed by Islam.”
Sitting in the offices of the modest portable that has doubled as his makeshift chapel for the past six years, Father Veneracion said he is bewildered by the dispute.
“It is confusing to us. We tried to be discreet and I think there’s an atmosphere generally in the Gulf that’s fairly anti-Christian, but that’s mainly to do with what’s happening in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has nothing to do with us at all,” said the priest, a slight, soft-spoken Filipino who seemed genuinely caught off guard by the controversy.
Oh, it has everything to do with us all.

Thank you, Michelle, for reminding us of the Eternal.
Happy Easter to All!
(For those offended by the religious side of Easter, think of happy people in spring clothes after the drab of winter.)
Happy Easter!
Last night at the Vigil Mass I got to witness three young adults be baptized into the Catholic Church.
Happy Easter, everyone!
Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!
suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!
Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!
But the pains which He endured, Alleluia!
our salvation have procured, Alleluia!
now above the sky He’s King, Alleluia!
where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!

Rejoice for He is Risen.
Happy Easter Michelle and to all of your readers.
The single most important day in the history of the world. And fortunately for us it went the right way.
Thank God He is Risen and still lives!
Amen.
He is watching over all of us.
Is He smiling? Is He pleased?
He will return soon, I hope ….to end the world misery and to defeat those that are against HIS will.
Blessed Easter to all believers!
Praise God! The Son has Risen!
I think I’m going to burst today
So many are coming to the Lord this weekend and recent times in church. There is a soul harvest going on my friends!
and crickets chirp over at Google…
God Bless all those in the world who do not have the freedom to openly worship the saviours death and resurrection. Those who must worship in fear of persecution and death. These are the most favored in the eyes of God, literally risking their life for God and the word of God. Many of us take for granted our freedom to congregate in large numbers for this occasion, we must remember and pray for those who must worship in secret, in numbers of 3 to 5, the persecuted Christians that still exist in the world and those that have died in the name of our saviour Jesus Christ.
Dear Lord, I pray for those that worship you in fear of discovery on this day of your sons resurrection and our salvation. I remember those and pray for their safety, I thank them for their undying devotion to our saviour Jesus Christ. Bless them on this day, the holy of holy, protect them and those they love from any harm or hardships, Bless those that have died in service to you and those that have died refusing to deny your name, in the name of our saviour Jesus Christ, Amen.
Happy Easter all.
May His love strengthen all of us.
Father, God Bless all of the believers and non believers here, this Easter day, the day of my Lord Jesus Christs resurrection, Amen.
I can never sing this little couplet, that our Catholic girl’s grade school choir used to sing during Easter vigil, without tears welling up in my eyes:
“And very early in the morning
after the Sabbath,
They came to the sepulcher,
At sunrise,
Alleluia”
jegjr, you beat me to it!
No little Easter eggs filling out the O’s in the word Google, no indication of a cross in the letter L in the word Google. Nothing.
They noted the Vernal Equinox though. Don’t want to piss off those Druids.
This is me doing my Claude Rains impression and being “…shocked, shocked…!”
Happy Easter to all!
Happy Easter Michelle and her faithful readers.
No Vigil masses for me this year. I just can justify having a 3 year old and a 2 year old sit in Church for 3 hours.
Happy Easter to all.
A final reason to NEVER use Google again. For your day to day searches there are plenty of search engines to use that are not anti-Christian and/or anti-American.
Happy and Blessed Easter to all.
As our Easter Hymn goes:
Christ has risen from the dead,
by death trampling upon Death,
and has bestowed Life to those in the tombs.
How about a serious, worldwide effort to have all Christians celebrate Easter on the same day EVERY year, instead of just twice every seven years?
I am an Orthodox Christian; the Orthodox Church is not always, but usually, omitted when Christian denominations are listed in a discussion or article.
But, that’s not important.
What is important is that, based on varying estimates, there are 200-250,000,000+ Orthodox Christians worldwide, a not insignificant number.
Most of these Orthodox communities have long experience with the struggle against Islam.
In fact, the fact that there are so few Orthodox Christians is, from my reading of history, due mainly to the spread of Islam, and the horrible effects and results of generations of conquered, Dhimmi status (as discussed here and at other sites).
Wouldn’t it be a strong signal to the world (besides being appropriate and nice) that ALL Christians, despite previous calendrical disagreements regarding the determination of the vernal equinox and Passover, agreed to make Easter a fixed Feast (as Christmas is), instead of a movable Feast; and that all Christians declared say, the 3rd Sunday of April, as Easter Sunday (my wife’s suggestion of some years ago)?
Especially at this time of worldwide existential threat by a dangerous, loony, barbarian enemy, all of us worldwide have to band together for our best chance of survival.
Thoughts, anyone?
Michelle,
Wishing you and your family a HAPPY EASTER!
- your reader from Everett, WA
Wishing all a blessed Easter.
L
Happy Easter!
YES! It is still up. Dogpile and Ask.com have Easter Eggs. The Iraqi government does not have as it’s law that all Christians must be killed or the any Muslim must be killed if he or she converts. Certainly some individuals may murder others, but we have that in the US also.
Math Proves Christ’s Resurrection:
It is faith, not proof, that makes Christians believe in Jesus Christ’s resurrection, the central tenet of the religion. Until now. Oxford University professor Richard Swinburne, a leading philosopher of religion, has seemingly done the impossible. Using logic and mathematics, he has created a formula that he says shows a 97 percent certainty that Jesus Christ was resurrected by God the Father, report The Age and Catholic News.
This stunning conclusion was made based on a series of complex calculations grounded in the following logic:
1. The probably of God’s existence is one in two. That is, God either exists or doesn’t.
2. The probability that God became incarnate, that is embodied in human form, is also one in two.
3. The evidence for God’s existence is an argument for the resurrection.
4. The chance of Christ’s resurrection not being reported by the gospels has a probability of one in 10.
5. Considering all these factors together, there is a one in 1,000 chance that the resurrection is not true.
Blessed Easter, Michelle and her readers!
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: thechastisement of our peace was upon him’ and with this stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
But god commandeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
He lives!
Alleluia!
You and Mrs. Granite have my vote!
In these dark days like-minded people of all stripes should be looking at, and celebrating, our similarities rather than the minute differences that divide denominations/factions/parties.
He is risen! God bless everyone here, and to our brave troops bring hope to the world.
He has risen indeed!!
Amen and Amen
Granite (#19), instead of an arbitrary fixed date, I would like the authorities of the leading Christian and Jewish branches to get together. As I understand it, Easter is tied with Passover as that is why Jesus was in Jerusalem. So, from my limited understanding, we should all key off of Passover. Easter (and Passover) would still float. Since the Jewish calendar has been consistent over the centuries, and the Western one has not, we’re more likely to be accurate this way.
I would yield my position to those with better theology and historical knowledge of why the difference came about.
The chains of death have been broken, alleluia!
Wishing people of all faiths joy and happiness, on this day that is so blessed to Christians around the world.
May we all - no matter who we are, or where we come from - find peace, hope and goodwill in our hearts today, and reach out a hand to extend that peace, hope and goodwill to another.
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die”.
John 11:25
Oh, I don’t know. I think the Rezko and Wright scandals still weigh on Him.
granite,
I’m with you on that idea.
There’s no greater Birthday present I could get than the resurrected King of Kings, God the Son, Redeemer of my soul! I can’t thank God enough. I can’t EVER thank God enough for what He has done for me for NO REASON AT ALL. I certainly don’t deserve anything.
But anyway, Happy Birthday to me, and Happy Easter to everybody.
I will pray for the conversion of Qatar and all Muslims.
Happy Easter to all!
Google is anti-American?
“Why are you looking for him here? He is not here. He is risen.”
The reason for the season.
A Blessed Easter to all.
Happy Easter to all across the pond. Christ is risen !
Thanks Michelle for posting the glorious Lichfield Cathedral video - I woke this morning to that lovely hymn on the radio - and turned it to full volume.
Your posting of the video prompted me to do a search on YouTube for “cathedral choir” - I found a treasure trove of beautiful singing. Super change from the usual depressing YouTube stuff. One of the glories of English cathedrals was the tradition of boy choristors. Here they are at St Paul’s Cathedral in London singing Psalm 23, The Lord’s My Shepherd :

Yep, that would work, too.
The situation this year is interesting, in that this year, the first day of Passover is April 20, which is when Orthodox will be observing Palm Sunday.
Keying off Passover would only work if all Christian denominations would accept working from the Jewish calendar.
They all really should do this.
Not to be schmalzy, but Jesus was a Jew, after all.
Keying off the Jewish calendar would not make anyone “less Christian”.
And it just might avoid endless squabbling…I would bet that India and the Philippines would not work anywhere nearly as well as they do if they each did not (as far as I am aware) use English as their national government official business language (whew!), instead of trying to decide which among dozens and hundreds of native languages and dialects to employ.
English for these two countries is a sort of “neutral” choice; which the use of the Jewish calendar by all Christians for determining the date of Easter could also be considered.
We must do this.
As Ben Franklin said, at the time of the signing of the (seditious, treasonous to the Brits) Declaration of Independence (perhaps paraphrased): “Gentlemen, we must all hang together, or we will all surely be hanged separately.”
As well, we must hang together with Israel, not cast her off.
Despite what the socialist worldwide media might say, Israel is not the problem in the Middle East; unless, by warped thinking, one blames Israel for defending (at least until recently, that is) herself against the barbarians, and thus in that sense causing a problem for the barbarians…sort of the way a schoolkid would be causing a problem for the school bully by bloodying the bully’s nose after the bully picked a fight with him.
That is absolute nonsense. This anti-Christian atmosphere has been in all the Muslim countries since the 600’s and has nothing to do with Iraq or Afghanistan. The fact that the Filipino priest has to be so cautious in his remarks is proof of it.
Also, the AP lead article on Drudge states that killings of Muslims who convert are rare. That is complete BS. It is so common that few Muslims convert, despite the vast majority wanting the freedom to do so.
Happy Easter, everyone, and let’s pray for the conversion of the Middle East to Christianity.
Happy Easter Michelle and all my friends here.
Thank you for posting this today, the most special day in the life of a christian, I feel.
It’s what we should be reflecting on in gratitude to our Lord and I certainly would like to reflect on Him rather than the politcs that we daily speak on.
God bless you and all here this day and always! Have a wonderful, joyous, and peaceful day.
HE IS RISEN - INDEED!
Happy Easter all.
Google is communist. They ‘gave away’ Taiwan to Communist China a few years ago. I still have the map screen save. They finally reversed themselves.
I use Yahoo, anything but and I correct people who use the generic term, g….. for search. I say, yes, you can Yahoo it or search it on altavista, etc.
Google also has turned in Chinese citizens who have accessed The Truth or tried to find things outside the bamboo curtain.
But.
He is risen today! Indeed.
Wishing a Happy Easter to all here. May God bless and keep you all well. Thanks, Michelle, for your Easter post.
A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Thacker
And a very Happy Everyone…especially the Athiests and non-believers.
Woah…Where did the Easter go? Anyway…Happy Easter to EVERYONE…especially to the Athiests and other non-believers.

HE IS RISEN INDEED!!
What a joyful day! Happy Easter, one and all.
It is a joyous sight to see so many beleivers on this blog. May we never forget that Christ made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could live.
Does anybody know if there is a way that we can support that church in Quatar(financially or otherwise?)
Happy Easter to you all. He is Risen!
He has risen indeed.

Happy belated Easter everyone.
Good morning everyone! It was such a blessing to read these posts. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. May Christ give you strength, courage, and compassion as you live for Him this week. Phil. 4:13
Too busy yanking accounts from Christians apparently. Or they took the Holiday off - oh what Holiday…
Happy Easter season to everyone. God bless you and your loved ones.
There, that’s better.
Hope all had a Happy Easter, and may God bless those who fight against the evil that is islam.
Sorry for getting into the game late, but I hope you all had a blessed and joyous Easter.

‘Course, we’ll be saying that April 27!
