Another illegal alien gang member doing the killing…

An alleged gang member accused of killing a 17-year-old high school student just one day after being released from jail has been living in the country illegally, possibly for more than a decade, federal immigration authorities said Saturday.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has filed paperwork naming 19-year-old Pedro Espinoza, the suspect in the March 2 killing of Los Angeles High School football star Jamiel Shaw Jr., as a potential candidate for deportation.
Virginia Kice, a spokeswoman for the immigration agency, said an immigration hold was issued for Espinoza on March 13, nearly a week after he was arrested in connection with Shaw’s death.
No such hold was placed on Espinoza on March 1, the day he was released from a Los Angeles County jail after serving roughly four months for exhibiting a firearm and resisting arrest, said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore.
“We are going to follow up to determine whether or not we have had prior interactions with this individual,” Kice said.
The federal immigration agency confirmed the deportation filing on the same day that Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa participated in a ceremony dedicating a memorial in Arlington Heights where Shaw was killed.
A highly regarded running back for his school’s football team, Shaw was named the Southern League’s most valuable player in 2007. He had drawn the interest of recruiters from Stanford and Rutgers universities, his family said.
The killing outraged civic leaders and reignited a citywide debate over the role that race has played in a recent spate of homicides.
Both the immigration agency and the Sheriff’s Department have employees who interview jail inmates about their immigration status. Those interviews can be undermined when inmates give aliases or inaccurate places of birth, authorities said.
After his most recent arrest, Espinoza was “uncooperative,” telling immigration investigators he did not know where he was born or the whereabouts of his family, Kice said.
The next day, investigators found a relative of the suspect who said Espinoza had been smuggled into the United States from Mexico when he was 4, Kice said.
Understatement of the day, via FNC:
Immigration officials told the TV station that Espinoza is an illegal immigrant, but no red flags were raised when he was released from jail March 1. “The system is not 100 percent,” Lori Haley, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told the station.
LAPD is still looking for another suspect in the case.

Prayers are with the Mother who was sent back from Iraq becuse of her son’s murder by this illegal parasite.

Yes, I recall this story. While his mother is off in Iraq fighting for our freedoms. Her son is back in the US, on the streets of California being murdered for the color of his skin.
I believe the gang members drove up to him and asked “what set he was from” when Shaw said he wasn’t apart of any gang, they opened fire. It truly didn’t matter what his response would have been.
What difference does it make? The boy is dead now. Perhaps, if more were done beforehand, this senseless murder could have been averted.
I wonder if John McCain made the call to the mother in Iraq that her son was killed by an illegal alien, seeing as how he would NOT make the call to a soldier informing them that a relative might be deported for being an illegal alien.
I sent an e-mail to McCain’s campaign headquarters offering to tell the soldier his illegal alien relative had been deported, so John wouldn’t need to. No reply yet.
Within 30 minutes of detaining an Iraqi, I can tell you his entire history with coalition forces, his arrrest records (if any) and get an iris scan, name, or fingerprint match from a hand-held machine. These clowns at the LAPD can’t tell if they have ever had any dealings with this punk? Give me a break.
How about he gets named as a potential candidate for the death penalty …
I can’t wait for Juan McCain’s visit to my backyard, Meridian Ms, on the 31st of this month.

They use every excuse in the book to try to account for their ineptness and the fact that they truly do not wish to address the problem with illegal aliens. If you guys elected to do the same thing with your mission, there really wouldn’t be any point to you all being over there. However, since you take your mission seriously and lives hang in the balance you do what you have to do. The LAPD thinks they can afford to just offer up platitudes.

30, we have to take it seriously! I have 18-20 year old scouts that have to put together enough evidence from what is truly a crime scene that it will get through the Iraqi Criminal Court. And they do it with training that is not always appropriate. But when we roll into town we come to clean up.

Unfortunately, the bureaucrats who bungled this case are taking their example from the top. I have mostly been a supporter of Mr. Bush, but I can’t for the life of me figure out why he is so soft on immigration.

I have heard that killings by illegal aliens happen over twenty times a day – if that’s true, that’s over 7300 unnecessary murders of US citizens a year! In five years of war in Iraq, we just hit four thousand Americans killed! How many Americans have to be murdered before the government takes action?
Every time one of these killings by an illegal alien happens, we should send copies of the newspaper article(s) to the President, Vice President, cabinet members and members of our “esteemed” Congress.

If the government gets bombarded enough – like 7300 times a year x however many people send these stories in to them, it MIGHT make them sit up and take some notice. I say MIGHT advisedly, because you know as well as I do just how inert and inept our government is.
Well both political parties have deserted the citizens of this country and have encouraged this type of action by illegals, by call opponents zenophobes and racists. It is time to take our country back.
The reports about 4000 deaths in Iraq disgust me. Any number is bad, but the sheer numbers killed by illegals is beyond campare to Iraq.

We see what kind of response, if any, I receive.
Rooster, you need some historical perspective. While any loss of a soldier is tragic, our troops have done an outstanding job with very few personnel lost. Take a look at past wars and occupations before calling this tragic. Our troops freed a nation from the tyrany of a family of thugs who brutally raped, tortured and murdered their own people. I say “We are the United States of America. When we get the chance to stomp an evil tyrant, free a nation, and scare the hell out our enemies, we should take it.”

If a 19-year-old has been living here since he was four, it handicaps what we can do if he is convicted of a crime.
I accept that illegal aliens are inevitable. The trick is to minimize their presence. Normally, I support deporting illegal aliens who are convicted of a felony. But this person has spent more time in America than in Mexico. He’s not guilty of a crime by being here. He was brought in by his family. So deporting him to a land he didn’t know with no family isn’t a feasible solution.
Obviously allowing him to stay wasn’t a feasible solution either.
It’s a horrible situation, but I wouldn’t blame “catch and release.” I would blame the culture of gang warfare and the glorification of violence. Of course, there are no easy answers there either.

The CCBL is fantastic. But it’s independent, not AAA.
Unfortunately, Major League Baseball is turning the screws and forcing CCBL teams to pay fees for the teams that have MLB names (like my hometown Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and the Orleans Cardinals). This despite the fact that the MLB and the CCBL always had a friendly relationship and MLB had previously donated its logos and trademarks for use.
The CCBL operates on a very small budget and uses local suppliers at discounted prices to get by. MLB is trying to stop that. Here’s a Cape Cod Times blog post about it.

cpodug. I just learned that congressmen, etc in DC have not received mail in quite a few years since the anthrax scare. I heard that all mail was simply destroyed and the only way to communicate was email or FAX. FAX being the preferred way.

Does CA still segregate black and Hispanic prisoners to keep them from killing each other? Maybe there could be a screw-up in the paperwork.
How does Mexico handle their gang problems? Do they even have gangs out side the drug cartels? Mexico is fortunate that they don’t have to follow PC rules when administering justice. I agree with Rusty that the problem is these gangs and why do these kids want to get in on such a losing business. I guess they have so much peer pressure and their parents don’t care or are unable to help them. Sometimes here the gang members parents are into gangs too.
I hate to say this but I hope that the family gets some good legal representation and sues the City of LA for Special Order 40, LA County for not investigating the shooters legal status, and the state of CA and US Government for not properly enforcing Federal Laws to keep turds like this out of our country.
Bottom line here is that if they had an immigration hold on this piece of crap he would never have been released the day before and the victim would still be alive.
If I were the parents, I would have been furious that the criminal enabling Mayor of LA, Tony Villar, dared to show up at my son’s funeral…the boys blood is plainly visible on Mayor Villars hands with his adamant support of Special Order 40.
It’s amazing to me how selective the media can be…so much made of the 5 year anniversary of the Iraq invasion and the US death toll at 4,000, however it’s never put in context…Since 2001, there have been over 8,000 homicides in LA County. Since the beginning of the Iraq invasion there have been over 5,500.
It would seem that it is safer to be in the Armed Forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan then living in LA County. Especially if you’re a prep star living in central LA.
