First, you seem to imply that one cannot be a conservative unless he or she is conservative on social/cultural issues. I think quite a few conservative writers, commentators, pundit, academics, etc. would be pretty surprised to hear this.

I notice that you don’t name even one. And no, you cannot be a conservative unless you are conservative on the “social issues”, as you libs like to call them.

In fact, Sen. Goldwater considered himself to be by and large a libertarian on social issues.

Not in the sixties and seventies he didn’t. He got more liberal later in life. I’m surprised that an Olde Tyme conservative like you is not aware of this.

By your measure, only members of the Christian right could rightfully be considered conservatives.

Don’t be silly. I offered no “measure”, and I don’t believe that only members of the “Christian right” (who keep you awake at night in fear) can be considered conservative.

I’m going to need to read the decision because this decision makes no sense to me. Article II is quite clear on treaties and, last I checked, individual states are bound to the federal Constitution.

Well you go re-read whatever you feel like, I’m afraid that whatever opinion you may have of it, will NOT reverse their ruling. The SCOTUS has spoken on behalf of the silent MAJORITY of this great nation and it is done. We have since opted out of that portion of the treaty from my understanding, so it’s a moot point now.

How about those US citizens missing who were kidnapped and are being held in Mexico.

And don’t forget our non-combatants in Iraq. Yeah I’m sure they were given access to their consulate and given a fair trail before being murdered. Where’s the so called “World Court” there?

How about all those American children kidnapped by their foreign born parent and taken back to places like Saudi Arabia, where they are forced to stay due to the laws there, despite the fact that they are American citizens, and were taken against court directives?

How about criminals that those countries won’t extradite because we have a death penalty?
