    I confess I don’t know. We do know that those 16 words “British intelligence has learned…” were a deliberate mis-statement on the part of Bush.

    He certainly denied it in 2002. I don’t know what he might have said earlier. Whatever he might have said, nobody would have thought him a source of good intelligence about the Iraqi military.

    Now step into the wayback machine to just before the invasion of Iraq. Hans Blix and David Kay have been combing Iraq for months (years?) and have found nothing. Bush insists that Saddam has WMDs and that US intelligence knows exactly where they are. Those claims seem to have been deliberate mis-statements on the part of Bush rather than “intelligence failures”.
