MoveOn: Stop Fox News from taking over the world!
They really do live on a different planet:
About 22 demonstrators gathered outside the ABC News building in Washington, D.C., on Thursday to deliver a petition reportedly bearing 200,000 signatures of people who agree that “FOX News is a Republican mouthpiece” and that networks, including ABC News, should stop “parroting” the Fox News Channel’s talking points.
MoveOn.org, a liberal political activism group, sponsored the demonstration and said in a press release that the petitions were delivered to major networks around the country, including CBS and CNN.
The demonstrators told Cybercast News Service that the Fox News Channel is “not a real news organization.” Nonetheless, they said, major news networks use Fox, a cable station, as a source for talking points.
“We are here to say, please, at the end of this election year, engage in responsible journalism and don’t parrot Fox News,” Adam Greene, director of strategic campaigns for MoveOn, told Cybercast News Service.
“We say Fox should not be setting the agenda for what is news in this country,” Deepa Domansky, a regional coordinator for MoveOn, told Cybercast News Service.
“Fox News is taking us away from issues that are really pressing and creating a sense that we shouldn’t be focusing on these issues but should be more focused on tabloid issues. We know that Fox News is not a legitimate news organization. It is a Republican mouthpiece. Yet the rest of the media is taking its talking points from Fox,” Domansky added.

Oh my Otherside, you are touchy. Why does Fox News scare you? What do they do that makes you want to run and hide? I am not dishonest, nor did I say your were. I just find it amusing that you are scared of Fox News. Yet, liberals like yourself want us to have no choice except the crap that comes to us from NBC, MSNBC, CNN, ABC,& CBS as well as most major newspapers. If Fox News makes you want to hide under your bed because some people may think it’s fair and balanced, there is no hope for you and all of your ad hominem attacks are really silly. Have a nice weekend and maybe have a beer, you might feel better. BTW don’t let Fox News scare you, it’s really not that bad. They’re becoming more leftist everyday. Living in an echo chamber must be what your after.
No, going a few steps too far is what you do on a daily basis.
The MSNBC example which I chose to use was intended to reflect the absurdity of your interpretation of the findings of that study as “pesky facts” that “are indeed troublesome for the loons on the left”. The results of that study could be interpreted in a number of different ways and bears NO conclusive evidence that Fox News is not biased.
And to answer your last question, I guess I will just reiterate what I have stated elsewhere in this thread that you obviously failed to read. (1) I disagree with MoveOn stance on this. (2) I think there is bias in all news media.
Same old, same old terrig.
Did I ever say it did?
Again did I ever say anything remotely close to that? Probably not, since I said in an earlier comment on this thread that I watch Fox News.
I looked and I didn’t find any ad hominem attacks by me. I try to keep debate on an intellectual level and don’t stoop to them.
Yes as a matter of fact otherside you state that people who believe that fox is fair and balanced scare you, that says it all for me. Yes, you may watch Fox news but I seriously doubt you do other than to keep track of all the Republican machine statements they make in your opinion. I hope you have a great weekend and that you get that chip off your shoulder.
Back at you!
TheOtherSide: your arguments are becoming as incoherent as lgm’s. You say it scares you when people think Fox News is “fair and balanced”. I cited a study showing that Fox may be somewhat biased, but only at the margins as compared with other news operations.
You reply with: “Check the numbers in the actually study and that statement can be made by both CNN and MSNBC as well. So either none of the cable news networks are biased or they all are. It has been my conjecture throughout this thread that it is the latter.”
Well, if they ALL are biased then why do you reserve your being scared only to Fox News viewers?
Do you share that same fear for people who regard CNN and MSNBC as “objective” aka “fair and balanced”, since by your own “take” they too are biased?
If you think viewers at those networks acknowledge them to be biased, then why is the entire argument by the Left(exemplified by the Moveon demonstration) that ONLY Fox News is biased, so much so that IT should be shut down?
And if only Fox News viewers think only “their” network is fair and balanced, how come they aren’t in the streets demanding that CNN and MSNBC be shut down?
“Disingenuous” is too kind a word for your absurd position.
What planet are these morons living on? Does Spock have a beard in their world?
How so? Please elaborate.
I have no problem with Fox News viewers, my problem is with those viewers who believe it is a Fair and Balanced news network.
Yes, but not as much…why not as much…see my link up above.
I think I’ve made it abundantly clear that I am against what MoveOn is doing with this. I am FOR free speech.
You’re side is fortunate not to have a MoveOn equivalent. But they do have a penchant for screaming liberal MSM bias at every chance they get.
I invite anyone to try to make sense of
TheOtherSide’s last post.
** He obviously knows that we are dealing with those Fox News viewers he’s scared of — the ones who think of it —and only it—as “fair and balanced”
** He has no trouble with viewers of other news networks who think theirs are “objective” aka “fair and balanced” —- even though he himself acknowledges that those networks are NOT “fair and balanced”.
** His fears are thus directed solely to a subset of Fox News viewers, and not to the subset of viewers of other news networks harboring the same misconception abut *their* favorite news networks.
**essentially he fears only mistaken conservatives, not mistaken liberals.
** he sees nothing illogical in such a selective fear.
*** He conflates complaints of widespread MSM liberal bias with leftist demonstrations against exactly ONE news network
** He dodges the question as to why Fox News viewers who think it “fair and balanced” whilst others are not are not demonstrating to have those other news networks shut down — basically conceding that the right doesn’t have hordes of organized whackos comparable to MoveOn.org, without asking himself why we jackbooted thugs aren’t (unlike the Left) on the march to impose our oppressive philosophies.
I suppose he will next tell us that his selective fear is based upon a nuance based on a subtle distinction.
Yeah, that’s it.
fulldroolcup,
Please learn some reading comprehension.
Wrong!
Wrong!
Wrong!
LOL!
I’ve heard of the phrase “pithy argument”, but the word “Wrong!” repeated again and again isn’t an “argument” at all.
Imagine a defense lawyer at trial, replying to *portions* of the prosecution’s case by yelling Wrong! at the jury three times, and then resting his case.
The jury, stunned by the defendant’s lawyer’s brilliant summation, votes to acquit.
BWAAAhahahahahaha!!!
And your arguments have been so solid and compelling, fulldroolcup:
Google search for “Fox news not biased”, find a blog the has a write up on a study that basically claims Fox News is not TOTALLY Republican, don’t bother to follow up and read the study, use said study ( which you only parroted from a right-wing blog), get called out on the weakness of said argument, resort to flat out lieing about said rebuttall, realize you’ve made a fool of yourself, spew more lies, laugh.
It’s funny that all of these so-called Fair and Balanced yearning Fox News junkies in this thread, detests it when someone with an opinion different then theres speaks up.
So, lgm, as long as CBS, NBC, ABC, et al, call themselves “Democrat message,” you would be okay with watching them? What, you already watch them? But, lgm, they have an obvious slant, so therefore it’s false advertising that they call themselves any of the above names.
You know, for the most part, I don’t mind trolls, because I do like hearing what the other side thinks. Rusty and The Other Side offer interesting viewpoints - not calling either one of you trolls, because holding an opposing viewpoint does not a troll make. I like being challenged to think and re-evaluate the way I think. But you, lgm, are another matter. You are either a troll or the most ignorant person I have ever met. Hint - being a troll is better than being ignorant.
*yawn*
How can they believe that ABC, a network devoted mostly to entertainment programming and not news, is a “major news network”, and FoxNews, devoted entirely to news and opinion programs, is not?
Once “TheOtherSide” mans up and addresses my arguments point-by-point, I will respond.
But as long as he offers a moronic blunderbus reply, he makes no more an “argument” than does lgm. So I will move on to worthy opponents, rather than attempt to school dullards.
But, say! Maybe lgm can get a lucrative contract tutoring theotherside in logic!!!
Or vice versa!
BWAAAAAAAhahahahahahahahahahahaaa!
Where have I not? If you can point out what I have not addressed, I will be more that happy to respond.
Well, after reading all these posts I’d just like to add a laymen’s observation.
Every time I watch Fox News, at least the shows where issues are debated, I see point-counterpoint via a person from each side of the issue. On rare occasion, a given side might refuse to send someone, but that isn’t the fault of Fox.
They also do this on Fox News Sunday, which is broadcast.
I don’t have any fancy stats to paste in here, but my own observation says Fox isn’t that biased. (I’ve also seen them go after repubs just as harshly as Dems, so they really don’t seem to play favorites.)
As far as their straight news reporting goes, that seems to be exactly that: starightforward and completely unbiased.
Translation: If it is not OUR talking points, it must be BAD!
The Other Side never did say why those who say Fox news is fair and balanced scares him. I was just wondering. So what station is fair and balanced? What scares me is that most media are scared of offending the Muslims and won’t show the Dutch film which portrays the Muslim agenda. Remember those speakers in that film are not Methodists or Quakers. When the media runs scared of stories is what scares me.
They don’t like it because Fox reports ALL the news, news these blithering idiots and their news organizations won’t report, because they are selective in what they want us to know.
It’s interesting that they feel threatened by Fox, the ONE news outlet that gives fair representation to both sides.
The Fairness Doctrine? The FAIRNESS Doctrine? The what Doctrine?
If you wish to hear what the typical liberal thinks of average folks, just ask them them to explain the ratings success of FOX News. LOL! The high rating drive them nuts.
These people frighten you why? You can’t explain can you? If people who believe Fox is a fair and balanced network make you want to run for the hills, then perhaps you have very few problems and are just looking for something to worry about. I don’t think you understand your own statement and how foolish it is.
This thread is pretty well dead, but here’s something for the Anti-Fox foamers to choke on:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64PRLw9nW2U
It features former PA governor Ed Rendell, a biggie in Democrat politics, saying this about Fox News.
“I think during this entire primary coverage, starting in Iowa and up to the present — FOX has done the fairest job, and remained the most objective of all the cable networks. You hate both of our candidates. No, I’m only kidding. But you actually have done a very balanced job of reporting the news and some of the other stations are just caught up with Senator Obama, who is a great guy, but Senator Obama can do no wrong, and Senator Clinton can do no right.”
And no, terrig: “theotherside” does not know how foolish he looks.
terrig & fulldroolcup,
Why do people who think FNC is Fair and Balanced? Just look at your posts throughout this thread. Both of you have continually misrepresented my statements putting your opinioned spin on them. You continually try to make something out of my statements which is not there. That is typical of what I would find in one who believes FNC is Fair and Balanced. Someone who stubbornly ignores the facts of reality that do not concur with their belief system. Should I not be concerned with the fact that 80% of FNC viewers have widespread misperceptions on Iraq (as per the linked study above)? Should I not be concerned with the fact that FNC’s flagship news program, Special Report, boasts among its guests 89%Republican, 71% avowed conservatives? No those don’t worry me, but those who think that represents to Fairness and Balance does.
And fulldroopcup, your shallow investigation of Gov. Rendell’ statement above, once again display’s your ignorance as it is no surprise that such an avid Clinton supporter as Rendell is, would say such a thing on FNC.
TOS: you are hopeless.
We do not make up “make something out of [your] statements which is not there.” There IS “nothing” substantive in your statements!
A string of unsupported assertions is not an “argument”.
“Wrong!” is not “making a case”.
30% of Americans believe the government had something to do with 9/11. What cable and network news programs do you think most of **them** watch? NOT Fox News. So throwing some loaded “study” around as if it “proves” something about Fox viewers (and by extension allegedly “proving that NON Fox viewers are smarter) is just juvenile bullsh*t.
As Fox News’s “Special Reports” “guests”: the news portion of it (first half-hour) doesn’t “do” guests. The opinion portion of it is….opinion and commentary. Of the panel “regulars” Mort is a RINO, while Fred and Krauthammer are on the right — except when Nina Easton, Jeff Birnbaum, Mara Liasson and Juan Williams —all liberals of varying degree — appear in their stead.
Still weighted toward conservatives? Maybe, but…so what??? Again, that part of “Special Report” is OPINION. Want liberal OPINION? go over to CNN and MSNBC!
As for “your shallow investigation of Gov. Rendell’ statement above, once again display’s your ignorance as it is no surprise that such an avid Clinton supporter as Rendell is, would say such a thing on FNC.”
I didn’t “investigate”. I reported.
If FNC is an organ of the Republican party, then why the EFFF would one of the main people in the Democratic national leadership be saying nice things about them???? Simply saying that he’s a Hillary supporter is no argument at all —it’s just another empty assertion, one that “begs the question”.
Remember: SHE’s…..a…..Democrat!
So are Susan Estrich, Lanny Davis, Charlie Rangel, Bob Bickel and a host of other Democrats who appear on various Fox News programs. Some are for Obama, some for Hillary.
Are they all shills for the GOP????
If you are implying that Fox “really” wants Hillary to win the nomination so she can be beaten by McCain, then you are putting yourself squarely in the ranks of conspiracy kooks.
After all, TOS, if Fox viewers are witless, stupid and CONSERVATIVE, they aren’t going to vote for Hillary OR Obama, so how would Fox tilting toward Hillary affect the Democrat race? After all, “everyone knows” that the RNC is behind FNC, so what “smart” Dem would watch Fox, let alone fall for Rendell’s playing footsie?
Fool.
fulldroolcup,
Please review the thread and you will realize that you are guilty of everything that you accuse me of.
Please see your #110 post.
Let’s disect this:
- You complain about throwing around some “loaded” study…what did you do in post #94? To which I added a rational agrument in #98.
- The 30% who think 9/11 was an inside job, NOT Fox Viewers? Might be true, but that sounds exactly like an “unsupported assertion” of which you blame me.
- “(and by extension allegedly “proving that NON Fox viewers are smarter)” - Perfect example of making something out of my statements which is not there. More informed, maybe. Smarter, no.
And regarding the Rendell affair, would it not be FOX News’ benefit to have a Democrat boast how Fair and Balanced they are? Would it not benefit both FNC and Rendell/Clinton, to portray all the other news networks as biased?
You may not agree with my point of view, but I have been no more the fool than you.
All news outlets are bad enough, with WAY too much emphasis on taploid like stories. But Stop a moment, close your eyes, imagine you are transported to Bizzaro World, where MoveOn type moonbats have the power to decide what is newsworthy…..I shudder at the thought
I don’t know if it’s true that Fox News is a Republican Mouthpiece, but it’s a absolute fact that the Democrats have a whole bunch more orifces to spew their blather than one cable news network.
And mouthpiece isn’t a term that would fit the lot of them.
These useful idiots would to love to censor any conservative free speech. I say let them try it.
MoveOn.Org and their gaggle of moonbats are treading on thin ice. I say lets build a large sawdust pit and invite every one of the idiot dolts to join us there. The last one still in and still standing is the winner. And yes, this proposal makes as much sense as their stupid leftist dribble. It’s time to confront these jackasses head on.
Seems like the “pucker-factor” is going up at the MSM. They’re getting their butts kicked in the ratings and now they’re crying foul. If the Demo’s win the election watch for one of the first things to be enacted into law will be the Fairness Doctrine and Fox will be the target.
