The Hawaii Republican Party is doing what?!?!
When last I wrote about identity politics in Hawaii, the state was moving to censor a cartoon critical of the native Hawaiian secessionist movement strongly backed by Democrat US Sen. Daniel Akaka.
Well, my right-minded friends in Aloha State just sent me an unbelievable piece of news. The shenanigans continue–and the Hawaii GOP is serving as a tool for the liberal quota-pushers and grievance-mongers.
Reader Eric e-mails:
Over this past weekend, Hawaii’s GOP leaders officially-sanctioned a policy whereby its leaders can donate as much as they want to Democrat candidates, arguing that giving thousands of dollars in direct campaign contributions to the likes of Senator Akaka is not as detrimental to Republicans as if these same party leaders were to lick envelopes for Akaka’s campaign.
The back story is that liberal Republican Governor Linda Lingle, working through her minions running the state party, wants to preserve having a key figure from the pro-Akaka Bill, pro-separatist movement (an activist attorney named Bruss Keppeler) on the Hawaii GOP’s platform committee, so he can preserve the party’s current pro-Akaka Bill plank, which other Republicans are trying to change. [after all, since when do Republicans favor creating big, brand new governments, when they're supposed to favor shrinking gov't?]
Zero Shibai has the scoop on the GOP turmoil. Here’s an excerpt from a flyer being passed around by rank-and-file Republicans appalled at the sellout. Arnold Toynbee said that “Civilizations die by suicide, not by murder.” The same is apparently true of the Republican Party:

It’s beginning to look more and more like we need a third party. The Republican Party may be going the way of the Whigs.
emjem24,
This is what we get for putting up with these rino’s.
When are we going to say no? Enough is enough of these McCain style rino’s?
Third Party? I’d be happy with a second party.
Hawaii has the largest number of SSI cases in the United States. About every other person in Hilo is on the dole. To call this a surprise is laughable.
cf you beat me to it. The only good I see this year is both political parties are hell bent on committing suicide this year. We may see several parties arise from the ashes should our Republic survive this election cycle.
So they want to secede from the U.S.? Akaka would be out of a job real fast. I wonder how long that would last without the U.S. buying their pineapples (until a trade agreement is reached through a long process of negotiation) or tourism (once recognition and passport policies are put in effect after a long period of negotiation). Of course, they can’t come to the U.S. without passports and some sort of embassy here. No SSI, welfare or federal money either. Talk about a bunch of pretty poor struggling islands. They want their cake and eat it too.
Death to the republican party has been happening for years. We never knew you. RIP.

This is who I’m writing in and why
The governor has made her intentions known for months. This separation from the USA will NOT receive a vote but be enacted by the US government.
McNasty has said he will sign the bill…how could America arrive at such a situation?
God help us all…
Hoopuloa, HI, HI
Well we actually miss living there much to our surprise. I guess we got used to the laid back atmosphere of Ewa Beach but back to the discussion at hand-this doesn’t surprise me at all. I went to three of the HI Republican party meetings when we first moved out there. I was wondering if I had gone to a Dim party meeting instead. Needless to say, I didn’t go after the third try.
THe funny thing about HI though is that they’re the only state I have ever lived in that gives it’s state employees Admission Day off. It’s really quite strange. I am not surprised at this as it seems to be quite the talk all the time. Linda Lingle is a RINO of the first order.
Held this a few minutes and just called my old neighbors. She said that they don’t want to leave the union, they’re proud Americans and they can’t figure it out themselves. However, it seems to be growing she said. The people across the way from us who were also haole and military told her they’re putting their house up for sale and trying to get on post housing as their tires were slashed again last night. We had people throw trash in our yard when we first got out there but they got evicted and the remaining 3 1/2 years were fine.
I am sad to see this. We were just talking about retiring out there last night. We truly miss some of the most lovely people we’ve ever met. The people are different out there in a good way. My daughter was accepted and loved by all the people at Immaculate Conception Church in Ewa but here is told to go to the crying room or the narthex as she “disturbs” others because she is different. Our son who is part Hawaiian is told that he sprang from a pineapple patch by our “liberal” neighbors.
Aloha Oe Hawaii. Mahalo Nui Loa for the good times we had there.
Forgot to add: wish we could stream Rick Hammada’s program. He was a great guy when we were out there.
Racism on steriods.
There’s a Republican party here?
My attorney niece has been working with the Hawaiian state senate the past six months or so. She reports that the pro-separatist movement proponents are completely bigoted, rude and abusive. She now avoids them like the plague.
Lingle and SchwarzeKennedy are the only two Governors listed as Elected Members on the RMSP site.. there used to half a dozen or so.
sooooooo… having her work to keep Dems in office is no surprise. … but it is pretty repulsive and and quite telling of how hard the GOP tries to smash its own base to bits every opportunity it gets, imo.
Interesting. The vote for Statehood in Hawaii was 94% versus 6% against. That vote included native Hawaiians.
The separatists are arguing that there were only two options on the ballot: to become a state or remain a territory. They insist that a third option, independence, was denied to them. Part of this independence movement is the claim that US interests illegally dissolved the Kingdom of Hawaii (the “Bayonet constitution”), and because of this act, Hawaii should have had the option to revert to a Kingdom.
Unfortunately, Bill Clinton signed a formal apology in around 2002 for the “illegal” acts of the US in dissolving the Kingdom. This act has fueled arguments that Hawaii should be independent from the US.
Actually, they don’t want independence per se. They want to remain on the US dole while giving those of Hawaiian ancestry rights superior to those of US citizens. Like Michelle has said – have their cake and eat it too.
Aside from the issues related to the constitutionality of such a move and the fact that the overwhelming majority of Hawaiians voted for statehood, it will set a irreversible and dangerous precedent for the US. If a racial, ethnic or religious group is able to establish its own rules favoring its own members over those of others, there is nothing to stop other groups from following suit. More particularly, it will provide the precedent and impetus for Sharia law within the borders of the US.
Supporting such a measure is national suicide.
It is frankly incomprehensible that anyone in Congress, let alone Presidential candidates, would support this. Apparently, to qualify as a legal adviser to federal officials these days one does not need to have a legal background.
The Republicans are the Obama to the Democrats J. Wright. Once you understand that, you pretty much understand it all. This is why Coulter is right — Hillary would be a much better choice for President. There would be so many angry democrats that with the republicans opposing her (I think), it should be possible to box her in effectively.
Obama (Republicans are terrified of Obama and would do anything to appease him) and McCain (Republicans are terrified of McCain and would appease him) would be far worse for the country. Neither can be trusted, both are in love with themselves, and their minions will flatter them endlessly as they careen from one disaster to another. Hillary can’t be trusted either, of course, but at least we would always know where she was coming from and where we stood with her.
Sorry folks, its the best we can hope for. I don’t like it any more than you do. So start writing out those checks for Hillary, all you can afford. Let’s do all we can to make Operation Chaos a resounding success.
Hawaiian politicians are mushier than poi. Must be all of the weed they’ve got there.
To prevent this sort of shenanigans, the GOP/RNC needs to operate somewhat on the lines of the NFIB (one of the most effective lobby groups). The core of the NFIB effectiveness is it asks the rank and file it’s opinion (with pro and con written by the pro and con) on various topics and then, if it gets a high acceptance rate on an issue, it acts accordingly.
The GOP/RNC ought to take it’s lead on how much to support any R politican gets at election time according to how they rate against a GOP grass roots perspectives with a baseline bottom of 75% — not according to what the GOP leadership wants (because they’ve been brown-nosed to do so by this or that mucky muck)..
In other words, if you’ve got a 100% rating, you get 100% support (which you could share with others if you desire — but your support level would be adjusted by the rating of those you provide support to). If it’s 76%, you’d get 4% support (Rating-75=1*4). Or something like that.
It wouldn’t take long for the mucky mucks to get in line with the grass roots, not visa versa…
It is becoming increasingly apparent that there is a higher purpose going on around us; to destroy BOTH parties.
First the true GOP and now the Democrats. This is what socialism wants…..ONE PARTY.
First you have to eliminate the enemies.
Seems to be the ONLY explanation why our government is falling apart.
Rooster, you are RIGHT!
I’ve had it with them, and for me, it is TOO MUCH.
I say, NO MORE FOREVER!
McCain and the rest of the RINOS can go light themselves their own torch where the sun don’t shine and have themselves a royal party.
They haven’t got a lick of sense and I won’t have nothin’ to do with them.
Culls.
Ombre Rose,
That moron McCain is threatening to come to our Blue Angels air show at NAS Meridian, Ms on Sunday. If I can’t get close enough to him then, I will try on monday morning when he speaks in Meridian to tell him what I think of him.
I never thought I would think that Hillary would be the best candidate.
I can’t vote for any of these imbeciles.
We survived Bill, we can survive what our next moron in chief destroys for the next four years.
If we keep voting for them it only encourages them to think it is what we want.
Hawaii is so nuts that even Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul enjoy a significant following here. As far as secession, there will always be those, whether in Hawaii or in eccentric Vermont, that think they would better off under some other government’s oppressive umbrella. If not for the U.S., Hawaii would most certainly have become a Japanese colony, comfort women and all. For some reason, there is this false nostalgia for how good things once were, when native Hawaiians died in their 20’s from disease (no, not introduced by the white man) and other poor health habits. King Kamehameha slaughtered thousands in his conquest (oh, yeah, unification) of the islands. The so-called “illegal” annexation killed no one. Clinton the first exacerbated the problem with his nonsensical apology resolution, but it’s still a rather small group of vocal activists who hold onto the dream of something that never really existed.
I don’t have a problem with Hawaiian natives and their political separatist movement. I can understand and appreciate their grievances of an invasion on their islands. . .
However, this idea is just asinine. Why does the D party need the OK to get the illegal donations that they need? Why is the R party willing to grant that permission? It’s so stupid it makes you wonder if in fact this rule is a defacto separatist movement from within the government there.
With this rule in place, and no opposition to it, it doesn’t seem as though there is a reason to vote anyway.
This is a serious problem. The creeping deconstruction of the USA as a philosophy has infected all.
Akaka, BTW, is not only senile, but at his peak, is the dumbest person any of you ever met. A true idiot, who speaks in sound bytes. Sort of like McCain, Hillary and Obamanation.
We don’t need a third party. A third party would only make Rinos feel better about themselves. The Rinos must be forced to assume their role as Democrats. The current “Republican” party must be obliterated and rebuilt according to proper conservative principles. How about the Abraham Lincoln Party? But how in the world would you do that? Maybe by encouraging Socialists do the same with the Democrats…… four parties, at least two of which would be clear on their principles. What we have now are panderers and the power -hungry who are “blown to and fro by every wind of doctrine.”
Well, collectivists of all stripes, racists, communists, socialists, religious imperialists, blah, blah, blah … they all think the same way.
Maybe they’ll have riots if somebody publishes a cartoon of a cow wearing a bomb for a hat.
I’ve lived in Hawaii for 20 years, located near South Point on the Big Island. I’ve about given up hope of ever seeing an effective Conservative-type get any kind of influence here. They continually reinstall the Inoyes, the Akakas, the Neil Abercrombies and now Maisie Herano.
They continually bemoan the corrupt Republicans that ran the place 40 years ago and can’t see that the ‘liberal’ corruption is just as corrupt now, if not more-so.
The answer is always more taxes… more regulation… until they change most smart business persons will stay away. If you run a business here, they get 1st dibs on any monies passing over your counter… Like it or else!
