Update: It’s noon and I’ve flipped the switch back on. Let there be light!

Today I am going dark.
We’ve turned out the lights at MichelleMalkin.com. Why? To raise awareness of empty awareness-raising gestures by Gulfstream liberals, Google energy hogs, and Gore-worshiping cultists whose DAISNAID (Do as I say, not as I do) environmental alarmist policies would send us back to the Stone Ages.
I urge you to help Raise Awareness of all forms of enviro-nitwit-ism, too, by:
*Cranking up your thermostats.
*Returning your CFLs.
*Protesting PETA’s animal cruelty and animal rights/environmental terrorism.
*Purchasing a carbon debit package.
*Informing your local public school teacher of Al Gore’s electric bill before he/she attempts to cram “An Inconvenient Truth” down your kid’s throat.
*Sending your favorite SUV-basher to visit The Concourse of Hypocrisy.
*And using as much toilet paper as you damned well please, guilt-free, while humming Sheryl Crow’s “All I Wanna Do:”
Don’t worry. Lights will come back on at noon. Happy April 1.

I’ll drive my Hummer all day today.
I want to say that I really laughed out loud just now.
I was walking around Wal-Mart today and saw that about half of the light bulbs there were “green”. It made me sick! The public just sucks up what these politicians say without blinking! Thankfully, it’s my first time getting to vote and I’m going to use it!
Wait until all that mercury (from millions of CFs) builds up in landfills and contaminates the water supply. What then?
I love your site, but honestly, Michelle, turn up the thermostat? Do we REALLY want to help out OPEC and their agenda to destroy the West just to send the left a point?

Kudos, Michelle. I think this is absolutely brilliant. I myself was this week considered to be the grasshopper in the old ant and grasshopper tale because I refused to acknowledge the “dangers” of “climate change.” After all, as I was told, the cause of the snow in Chicago late last week was solely due to man’s impact on the planet, because apparently weather is static and is quite predictable, and if there was no man-made global warming, we would have experienced a “normal” March day. Incidentally, when pressed for the definition of such a day, one could not be provided.
You know, before my freedoms are taken away, I simply would like a bona fide case to be made – for all science to be considered. Until Al Gore and his minions can provide it, I’d like them to keep their hands out of my wallet and their noses out of my business. And for the record, for those that would like a cleaner planet, why not sanction the Chinese? They’ve generated more pollution than most other industrialized nations combined. Why must only those that are free suffer the burden of transient causes?

heh…heh…I drive a car that gets me about 13 mpg around town – then again I can do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. Think I may have to do a little extra “street painting” in honor of this event.
17 – ah yes. Energy consumption and pro-creative, heterosexual intercourse. If you manage to do the deed with your legally and lawfully wed spouse of an opposite sex in a parked Hummer with the heater running, I’m sure somewhere, somehow, a lefty’s head will explode in impotent anger. I’ll be using my computer all day. Something interesting that I found out the other day is that my laptop uses about 15W of power. I had installed some device that measures wattage, and then was nearly floored by the fact that it uses only 15W of electricity. After thinking about it, it made sense as my 55 Whr battery lasts about 3 1/2 hours so that measurement is accurate.
My laptop computer which has 20 times the computing power that NASA had when they put Neil Armstrong on the moon, consumes 1/6th the energy of my desk lamp. If that doesn’t make you go wow, I don’t know what will.
As for my contribution to today, I’ll be running 3 batchs of fairly intensive numerical calculations on my laptop. After describing how energy efficient my laptop is that suddenly doesn’t sound so power hungry >.>
OH man… but I LIKE my CFL’s! They are a clean, natural daylight color, not an off yellow. Tell ya what… I’ll, um… I’ll DEFINITELY turn up the thermostat, and I’ll drive around doing errands tomorrow. And we’ll use the truck. And um… gosh, there’s got to be a DOZEN things I can do…
I wonder what the environmentalists will do, besides have major coronaries, when a volcano erupts. Now that is CO2 deluxe! I hear nothing about Hawaii’s Mauna Loa. I’d also be curious if another Krakatoa went off. I suppose Al Gore would be the first to encourage laws insisting on SUVs to combat the global cooling! If another one like that went off, I’d miss everything. I’d be too busy rolling on the floor, doubled over with laughter. So, after all the warming and cooling the Earth has had over the past 2000 years, most species, including polar bears, are now going to die off? Gee, if the environment is so damn delicate that killing off an owl or bug will topple the food chain and put us all away, then someone forgot to tell that to the asteroid that wiped out almost all life on earth some time ago.
Well, to me, these eco-greenies are simply intellectual cowards; it’s far easier to strut the touchy-feelly thrill of saving whales and seals and beating down baddie corporations than face the ugly brutal faces of terrorists and tyrants who’ll have the means to wipe your family and millions more off the map, in which case how the precious environment won’t mean a thing.

I turned on every light in my house at 8:00 Sunday night in honor of Enlighten the Earth Hour. Normally most of my lights would be out (to save money) but it was worth it to support this great cause!
I wonder what high priest Al Gore, and the congregation of the church of global warming, will say when Iran or North Korea light off their nuclear warhead…the one they say they don’t have…against one of their neighbors (like S. Korea or Israel)? Welcome it I suppose. They love N. Korea, Venezula, and Iran. Besides, it’s great for planet cooling.

Al Gore may be a overstuffed windbag, but he scores when it comes to the stock market. I wish I had his GOOG stock position.
My point is this: Gore and his buddies are setting up their next scam. They are starting companies and buying (as little as is necessary — they can get on the boards as directors to provide cover from discrepancies between loud politics and quiet scams, Williams and Delta Finance) nice sizable positions.
In what you may ask? In those companies who will score big when Al and friends make their bottom and top lines balloon with the force of law. If you can’t get a legal monopoly like Microsoft, the next best thing is to outlaw all the competition.
So look for those companies who will get windfalls if any of Gore’s crackpot concepts gets shoved through the next Congress. If you can pick up on where Gore and Friends are investing now, you may just have a present coming your way.
Personally, I like GE. Ever since Jack Welsh retired, they took a hard left turn and are positioning themselves to score across the panoply of their various businesses.

On Saturday we had every light on in our house during the “dark time”.
Today I am going to do the shopping and ride around PWC in my SUV.

On Saturday, I turned every light in our house on (except my son’s, as he was asleep).
When eco-nuts start seriously talking about things like nuclear power and alternative fuels that aren’t ethanol (which jacks up food prices and limits food supply…you know, for PEOPLE!) then we’ll talk.
In the meantime, I have a problem believing using 2 squares of TP, not eating tangerines, or turning off my lights for an hour are in any way effective.
Although I do believe the “Lights Out” campaign is a teaser for how liberals want us all to live – in the dark, without power, on a night when it’s 34º outside.

So, you’re the one!!! I’ve been wondering who has gotten to my wife and daughter!!! When we’re all in the house, I usually spend the day following those two turning out lights after they’ve left a room. (and both of them profess to be environmentally sensitive)

Just because you are an id10t, instead of sitting in the parking lot at lunch today and smoking my cigar I am going to ride around the entire hour and use as much gas as possible while listening to Rush. What a waste of gas and it’s all your fault. What does your boyfriend think about you lacking a sense of humor? Be careful or he may find someone more gay and happy. On Arbor Day those of us that have fireplaces can cut down a tree and use it to heat our houses. So as not to use heating oil.

The irony in all this envirosymbolism is that power plants operate 7 x 24 all day, every day. Though we have an on/off switch in our homes the power plants generate power all the time. And there’s no way to store the power they generate. They burn coal, gas or oil and produce steam which drives the turbines to create electricity. This flows onto the distribution grid for all to partake. So whatever savings one realizes from going dark, the sad truth is that you’ve only wasted all that fossil fuel for the satisfaction of more stupid liberal symbolism.

This is also true with “gas boycotts” where people think if they all boycott gas stations for one day it will make a difference to the oil companies. They don’t realize that you also have to stop driving that day to for it to matter.
I’ll turn on my air conditioning while I’m gone and then turn on the heater when I get back. Of course, the house will take time to heat up, so I’ll drive around a while, wait thirty minutes in a drive-thru with the engine running, and then run right into a tree. Maybe.
I guess I’m ahead of the curve!

I will start my car, then lock the doors, and then take the bus to work.
I saw Google do this the other day and all I could think was, “wow, that really saved a lot of energy!”

I will be sure to order a pizza tonight (Domino’s of course), have it delivered so that there are increased carbon emissions from my delivery driver. I will then gorge myself on pizza. I will also make sure I make an extra trip as a tribute to the empty-headed fools who think they can manipulate and blackmail people into changing their “glutonous habits” through fear mongering.
I will also make sure I pump more gas into my medium-sized SUV so as to contribute more to those evil oil companies. This will also ensure that I’m doing my part to contribute to the economy through my pizza and fuel patronage.

I am going to drive to emjem24’s house for pizza. She has to live several hundred miles from me. Since my truck is so economical, I am going to rent an H1. I will lower the tire pressure and drive 70mph in second gear so I get next to nothing for mileage. Then, because I am not being responsible for my own actions, I will stop by the state capital on the way home and see if I can get some gooberment official to bail me out of the massive credit card debt I will run up.
Michelle, you are just awesome! I have always kept my thermostat at 72 degrees. I threw out my CFL’s( yes, threw out not recycle) they don’t work anyway in the 3-way mode. The technology is crap.
I drive a 1999 sedan that burns gas. Oh every incandescent light is always on at night. Whoops forgot to turn on my garage and patio lights on for all day today. See ya in a bit!

I’m opposed to SUV’s myself. But not because of any environmental B.S. . . .simply because it’d be nice to decrease our dependence upon foreign oil, instead of buying these monster vehicles that are typically used to transport ONE person.

Remember the nitwits who turned off our Nuclear power plants, who said don’t drill off shore or in Alaska, who put scrubbers on power plants that require more polution to maintain, than what they reduce. Remember the nitwits who classified the work of Nichola Tesla (still classified today).
This is one area where I disagree with Michelle. I’m not a global warming alarmist and I question how much of this warming is caused by natural effects vs human causes. I detest Al Gore for his hypocrisy Irregardless of whether we believe in global warming, we should all want clean air and water. We should all want energy independence which has a conservation component in addition to the need to develop more domestic energy sources ( oil, gas, nuclear, solar, wind, etc. ) We should also have a healthy concern about the over use of plastics and other non biodegradable materials for packaging and other uses.
There is a common sense middle ground to this debate about environmental issues.
