Some great posts people…some had me laughing after being so damn mad after watching one of the dumbest commercials i’ve seen and i’m a senior citizen. Not just because if the illegal aliens reconquista crap, just the whole idea and presentation.
Got to admit it aroused my curiosity when mentioning losing California. Land of fruits and nuts and one of the largest(bankrupt) economies in the world.

Fehrenbach noted in “Fire and Blood,” his excellent (and un-PC) history of Mexico, the area Mexicans claim the U.S. “stole” from them was never really in its possession because “the predatory Apaches of Arizona, New Mexico and Sonora and the terrible, hard-riding Comanches of the Texas plains, presented the northern frontier with a problem the Spanish never solved. … the horse Indians were neither conquered nor pacified. They defeated Spanish arms severely in Texas in the 1750s; they destroyed Spanish settlements everywhere on the frontier. They did worse: Comanches and Apaches raided hundreds of leagues beyond their territory into New Spain. The terror continued until the second half of the nineteenth century,” and before it abated, Mexico besought its northern conqueror to protect it from Indian depredation, to which the U.S. assented in Article XI of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo:

It’s a good thing I quite drinking alcoholic beverages after being diagnosed with “Addison’s Disease” back in 1989. Except for special occasions I have done a pretty good job of abstaining (too much booze plays hell with one of the medications I take giving moderate to severe muscle cramps). I can guarantee I will “Absolutely” not drink any of their products every.
They give the Mexican reconquistadors credit for controlling way to much land. The Shoshone, Ute, and Comanche did an excellent job of handing the Spanish and later Mexican invaders their butts. They never really controlled anything other than California, which IMHO they can have as soon as we can rescue and relocate our fellow conservatives and move them to more friendly states.
I prefer single malt scotch anyway. However, I almost wish I were an Absolut drinker just so I could quit out of principle!

Same with us. When I told my husband to come and look at the reason we won’t buy Absolut every again he said, “Again? Do we ever drink that stuff?” It was the same with Miller. I refuse to buy it, but that doesn’t change anything for us - we wouldn’t have bought it anyway.

I too, find it amazing that a company could so easily forget about the consumers who made its product successful in the first place. Appealing to the “lowest common denominator” (something that lgm appears to do or mock when he can), is only a short-term marketing strategy.
As a former bartender, I’ve never recommended Absolut. It doesn’t appeal to more “refined taste buds.” Instead, try Grey Goose, it’s a little pricy but it’s good on its own or as a martini.
I’m sure illegals will be over the moon that this new ad compaign appeals to their “demographic.” Is it any wonder that they’re committing the DUI’S, vehicular homicides, and hit and runs while inebriated? Absolut is just another company trying to make a quick buck at the expense of the native consumers who helped them make a name for themselves.
If I wasn’t already a Stoli drinker this would settle it.

In 1994 California citizens passed Prop 187. The courts have subsequently ruled against the people. So when the fight begins we know who gets a rope. Make no mistake California is not like you see on TV its not San Fransisco. My next door neighbor came from Tijuana he speaks perfect English he owns his own business and if the crap hits the fan he is marching with me not them. So put that in your pipe and smoke it. You want to know what we unseen Californians are like check out Michael A Monsoor that’s the real California not the TV show version you see. My guess is that these mouths that we hear talking trash about us wouldn’t last five minutes against even a tiny minority of us. Back in the 1980s, when Western Europe was flirting with the idea of simply rolling over before the Soviet bear, I once said to a friend that we should just let the Russians have the lot of ‘em; but he corrected me by saying, “Yeah, but then the Russkies would whip them into shape and then where would we be?”
In a similar sense but with a different outcome, even if we handed the southwest states over to it Mexico would simply run the whole region into the ground until every major city in “Aztlan” would be indistinguishable from Tijuana.
I’d be willing to wager that whoever originated the phrase, “Good fences make good neighbors” probably lived in close proximity to the border with Mexico.

This lady speaks from the heart and is qualified by experience to do so. Born here or not, that lady is a real American. Pity, she will never be invited to be interviewed on MSNBC or PBS.
Absolutely brilliant, shooter. I met a great gal who hailed from Mexico City. I actually met her in a Spanish class that I was taking to finish up my Spanish minor in college. Anyway, she was getting her accounting degree (which her father paid for) and in exchange she agreed to work for her father’s accounting firm.
She used to tell me how much of a hell hole Mexico City really was. It’s run by corrupt cops/politicians and criminals. She told me that was pretty typical in Mexican cities. She felt a lot safer in the States as an international student than going to school in her home country.
It was pretty evident that she didn’t want to go back to Mexico after graduation. However, she had promised her father that she’d work in the family firm. This thread makes me wonder if she ever decided to come to the US legally. She’s talented, bright, and really appreciates the country.
Wherever she is, I hope she’s okay…

I hope that this Spanish class the student from Mexico was in was an advanced, or at the very, very least, a high-intermediate, Spanish class.
When I was in college, thems were the rules.
In fact, if one were a first-generation- or second(as I am)-generation-born-in-the-U.S. individual who was fluent (as I am) in, or had a good command of one’s parents’ or grandparents’ native language, one would have to enroll in an intermediate or advanced course in that language.
Or, was your friemd helping out as a teaching assistant in the class?
Just curious (but would not be surprised) whether things have changed….
