Absolut Reconquista Update: Coming to a billboard near you?

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 2, 2008 09:55 PM

Scroll down for updates…Photoshop time: How about a fence?

The beverage of open-borders used to be Miller Light. Now, it is Absolut Vodka. The vodka maker’s latest ad redraws the map of North America to please Mexican consumers. (Hat tip - Snapped Shot and Jim Hoft).

Reconquista? What reconquista? Oh, yeah. That reconquista:

I hear McCain campaign advisor Juan Hernandez and Hillary campaign advisor Dolores Huerta both approve.

Bottoms up!

The “In An Absolut World” ad campaign site is here.

Laura Martinez, who apparently approves, spotted the Absolut open-borders ad in the print edition of Quien magazine.

    As T. R. Fehrenbach noted in “Fire and Blood,” his excellent (and un-PC) history of Mexico, the area Mexicans claim the U.S. “stole” from them was never really in its possession because “the predatory Apaches of Arizona, New Mexico and Sonora and the terrible, hard-riding Comanches of the Texas plains, presented the northern frontier with a problem the Spanish never solved. … the horse Indians were neither conquered nor pacified. They defeated Spanish arms severely in Texas in the 1750s; they destroyed Spanish settlements everywhere on the frontier. They did worse: Comanches and Apaches raided hundreds of leagues beyond their territory into New Spain. The terror continued until the second half of the nineteenth century,” and before it abated, Mexico besought its northern conqueror to protect it from Indian depredation, to which the U.S. assented in Article XI of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo:

    “Considering that a great part of the territories, which, by the present treaty, are to be comprehended for the future within the limits of the United States, is now occupied by savage tribes, who will hereafter be under the exclusive control of the Government of the United States, and whose incursions within the territory of Mexico would be prejudicial in the extreme, it is solemnly agreed that all such incursions shall be forcibly restrained by the Government of the United States whensoever this may be necessary; and that when they cannot be prevented, they shall be punished by the said Government, and satisfaction for the same shall be exacted all in the same way, and with equal diligence and energy, as if the same incursions were meditated or committed within its own territory, against its own citizens.”

    This is inciting violence to a degree. I suppose the makers of this map just haven’t thought exactly how Mexico (even if it willed such a thing) is going to do this.

    Folks, you can relax a little on this because most of the internal migration patterns are to the former Spanish colonies.

    And most Hispanics prefer to keep English as the dominant language, provided the left doesn’t use its white guilt agenda on them.

    As for boycotting, well, I don’t drink it, so I don’t buy it anyway. I’ll give Jeff a buzz this morning and see if I get anything.

    Spain stole the American South West from the Indians.

    They give the Mexican reconquistadors credit for controlling way to much land. The Shoshone, Ute, and Comanche did an excellent job of handing the Spanish and later Mexican invaders their butts. Ford recently decided on a more neutral position with respect to supporting Gay and Lesbian causes. The boycott hit them where it hurt.

    Absolut, not a intelligent move here.

    I too, find it amazing that a company could so easily forget about the consumers who made its product successful in the first place. Appealing to the “lowest common denominator” (something that lgm appears to do or mock when he can), is only a short-term marketing strategy.

    As a former bartender, I’ve never recommended Absolut. It doesn’t appeal to more “refined taste buds.” Instead, try Grey Goose, it’s a little pricy but it’s good on its own or as a martini.

    I’m sure illegals will be over the moon that this new ad compaign appeals to their “demographic.” Is it any wonder that they’re committing the DUI’S, vehicular homicides, and hit and runs while inebriated? Absolut is just another company trying to make a quick buck at the expense of the native consumers who helped them make a name for themselves.

    Mornin’ everybody. Here’s some potentially bad news for us non-vodka drinkers. Absolut was recently bought out by Pernod.

    According to Wikipedia,

    “Pernod Ricard owns a wide variety of beverage brands worldwide. These include:

    Royal Salute (scotch whisky)
    Chivas Regal (scotch whisky)
    The Glenlivet (single malt scotch whisky)
    Jameson Irish Whiskey
    Seagram’s gin
    Pernod aux extraits d’absinthe
    Wyborowa (vodka)
    Ricard and 51 (pastis)
    Martell (cognac)
    Wild Turkey (bourbon)
    Jacob’s Creek (wine)
    Pernod (anise-based spirit)
    Zuco
    Becherovka
    DITA (lychee-based spirit)
    Havana Club (rum).

    As of 26 July 2005, the brand portfolio expanded to include former Allied Domecq products:

    Ballantine’s scotch;
    Kahlúa coffee liqueur;
    Malibu coconut-flavored rum;
    Beefeater gin;
    Tia Maria liqueur;
    Stolichnaya vodka (distribution in the USA);
    Mumm champagne;
    Perrier-Jouët champagne.”

    So it looks like there are plenty of brands to boycott, if you are so inclined.

We lost tons of what was then OUR territory, because we were weak, stupid and corrupt, no one in Mexico cared about 2/3 of the old Nueva Espana until after they discovered gold in California and no one in Mexico cared about that territory untli the USA built it up with roads, cities, towns, services, industry in the early 20th century. Guess what, it’s the 21st century and Mexico is still weak, stupid and corrupt, socially, economically and govermentally. Instead of wroking to build a great society, instead of mexican society working as a team and building a 1st class country with the tons of human an natural resources we have, we covet jealously what we could have had, what the USA became and is, it because the Americans are smart and they have their checks and balances socially, politically and economically they built an empire out of 13 piece of dirt colonies, the Spaniards gave us an empire in term of land and as a society we pissed it away, the problem is that mexican never look at themselves as the problem, which we are, naturally we always look at some one else to blame for our own failings.

    We suck as a culture, we suck as a society, we suck as a country, were a third rate wannabe leftist dictatorship aka a latina american democracy that can never get it’s act straight. I had the good fortune of marrying into an American family that embraced me regardless of my origins these social and political conservatives are some of the most generous and hard working people and some of the closest nit humans you will find, I am lucky to have left Mexico, and I will never return to Mexico, I will die for the USA and my sons will die for the USA because it has given me everything.

    Doesn’t work that way, although the notion is tempting. Back in the 1980s, when Western Europe was flirting with the idea of simply rolling over before the Soviet bear, I once said to a friend that we should just let the Russians have the lot of ‘em; but he corrected me by saying, “Yeah, but then the Russkies would whip them into shape and then where would we be?”

    In a similar sense but with a different outcome, even if we handed the southwest states over to it Mexico would simply run the whole region into the ground until every major city in “Aztlan” would be indistinguishable from Tijuana.

    I’d be willing to wager that whoever originated the phrase, “Good fences make good neighbors” probably lived in close proximity to the border with Mexico.

    Exactly, rooster.
    You beat me to it.

    My friend, this is the United States of America. We are the land of opportunity.
    Even bottom feeders can rise to the top of society, but with so many invading our land at once, the opportunities for American citizens to achieve success becomes harder and harder.

    #109 shooter and #117 granite - I agree completely. The post by Fabricio was the best two paragraphs by a legal Mexican immigrant that I have read. This lady speaks from the heart and is qualified by experience to do so. Born here or not, that lady is a real American. Pity, she will never be invited to be interviewed on MSNBC or PBS.

    Absolutely brilliant, shooter. I met a great gal who hailed from Mexico City. I actually met her in a Spanish class that I was taking to finish up my Spanish minor in college. Anyway, she was getting her accounting degree (which her father paid for) and in exchange she agreed to work for her father’s accounting firm.

    She used to tell me how much of a hell hole Mexico City really was. It’s run by corrupt cops/politicians and criminals. She told me that was pretty typical in Mexican cities. She felt a lot safer in the States as an international student than going to school in her home country.

    It was pretty evident that she didn’t want to go back to Mexico after graduation. However, she had promised her father that she’d work in the family firm. This thread makes me wonder if she ever decided to come to the US legally. She’s talented, bright, and really appreciates the country.

    Wherever she is, I hope she’s okay…

    Seriously, though, is it not treasonous to call for the dissolution of the union? I think the question deserves discussion.

    Since they are a foreign owned company, it’s not treason.
    Though don’t we have a policy of no import trade with countries or companies that openly advocate the destruction of our country? As a foreign entity, they don’t have freedom of expression rights here. Customs & Border Protection could give them a headache by inspecting every stinkin’ bottle they try to import. Make them think twice about insulting us again. (Though that would require true leadership of courage with a focus on national border security, something we don’t have with our current administration {and won’t have for another 4 to 8 years}.)

    Slightly off-topic:

    emjem:
    I hope that this Spanish class the student from Mexico was in was an advanced, or at the very, very least, a high-intermediate, Spanish class.

    When I was in college, thems were the rules.

    In fact, if one were a first-generation- or second(as I am)-generation-born-in-the-U.S. individual who was fluent (as I am) in, or had a good command of one’s parents’ or grandparents’ native language, one would have to enroll in an intermediate or advanced course in that language.

    Or, was your friemd helping out as a teaching assistant in the class?

    Just curious (but would not be surprised) whether things have changed….
