emjem24,

If I called every single GOP county office and asked to make a donation specifically to be used in suppressing the black vote, I’m guessing that a large majority would say they won’t take donations for such a cause, but I am also guessing that a small handful would accept it.

Why is this short-sighted and dishonest? Of course it is hypothetical. Note the mention of the word "guessing".

For someone who claims they don’t “prejudge,” you didn’t read my earlier post:

However, I do like their “no liberal” rule. Too bad we can’t do it here. Michelle is much kinder than her “visitors” give her credit for.

What???? How am I prejudging? You said that you wanted a "no liberal" rule.

b)critical of conservatives c) stereotypes the belief systems of conservatives

WHERE??? Subsitute the word liberal in there and you are 1000% more guilty than I!

Unbelievable.

EWTHeckman said: #173

Thank you, EWTHeckman. Well said. The thing about "gray thinkers" that I find a bit hypocritical and shifty is that it all boils down to the following: who's necessary and who's not? If they applied their idea of life to certain people, the likes of Stephen Hawking would not exist.

Liberals like rules as long as they don't apply to them. Liberals have become a privileged class in America that can't be challenged. They can determine if a child at a particular school district can celebrate Christmas or Winter Holiday. They can determine if you can put a Christmas tree in a public square or not.

After liberals have determined who is necessary to keep and who to get rid of, they then can determine how that life should be spent (and how it should be supported). This is why abortion and the meaning of life go hand in hand.

TheOtherSide said:

One thing I find fairly common among conservatives, is that they tend to see things as black and white, and fail to see shades of gray. It means that if I had to label myself as a conservative or a liberal, I would say I am a liberal. In actuality, I lean more to the conservative side fiscally, but more to the liberal side on social issues.

Then you would be a libertarian, right? I find the gray zone to be a convenient excuse for those who favor the moral equivalency argument, or tend to hide from the truth that there is actually good and evil. I've been exposed to the gray way of thinking a lot more than you give me credit for. I'm grew up in a liberal college town, even have liberals in both my family and my husband's. Your "echo chamber" argument really doesn't subscribe to reality.

Where have I been intellectually hishonest, hypocritical, or short-sided in this thread?

Well, here is shortsighted and dishonest post #1.

If I called every single GOP county office and asked to make a donation specifically to be used in suppressing the black vote, I’m guessing that a large majority would say they won’t take donations for such a cause, but I am also guessing that a small handful would accept it.

You don't know this. It's a hypothesis on your part. There's no proof unless you'd like to use lgm's sourcing.

Dishonest post #2:

However, it appears it is okay to make a blanket statement against PP under similar conditions.

Anybody with a women's history background and who has studied Margaret Sanger, the founder of PP, would know what she's all about- eugenics. She was also quite racist. Do you know what PP is all about? Or would you rather criticize those who actually experienced it first hand and have a problem with taxpayers supporting what is clearly a "non-profit" that can do fine on its own.

I believe the assertion that you are referring to is when I wrote that you appeared to desire being surrounded by yes men. That assertion is predicated not on any prejudgement on my part, but on the fact that you don’t want any liberals on MM.

Actually, I desire intelligent conversation. I find that most of your conversation veers toward a)contrarian b)critical of conservatives c) stereotypes the belief systems of conservatives d)backs up Michelle's visitors or those who would rather not wear the "membership jacket," e) contradicts your claim that you want to "understand" conservatives.

For someone who claims they don't "prejudge," you didn't read my earlier post:

However, I do like their “no liberal” rule. Too bad we can’t do it here. Michelle is much kinder than her “visitors” give her credit for.

While I like the "no liberal" rule, I recognize that this is someone else's blog. I respect Michelle's decision and don't wish her to change it. Then she would be as exclusive as DKos and Huff n' Puff.

What I find interesting, is that "liberals" or those of the left persuasion who assert they love the gray zone, seem to be guilty of judging those they accuse of doing likewise. This is why Michelle keeps you and others around. Irony is part of the human condition as is comedy and you and your fellow "travellers" provide both.

I made no such admittance. As I tried to stay on the topic of racism within PP.

Look at Greenfairie's post... if PP is committed to "equal opportunity" abortion then why are PP clinics located in minority neighborhoods? Mere coincidence, what?

#173 On April 2nd, 2008 at 7:23 pm, EWTHeckman:

Excellent post.

Socialists/secularists and their ilk find the concepts of rules, and of right & wrong, very inconvenient.

Hence, the B.S. of "not black & white, but rather shades of gray", blah, blah, blah.

So much of it is immature, adolescent(or pre-adolescent)-type rationalizing, in order to not feel bad about a particular activity or habit.
So much of it is the result of the ensnaring, inescapable hold of the socialist/secularist - indeed, nihilist - worldview.

I believe it was a comment on the dust jacket; or perhaps in the foreword, or preface, etc of Paul Johnson's excellent book "Intellectuals": paraphrased, it said that the writings and philosophies of intellectuals over the past 200 years or so are essentially no more than their efforts at justifying their (aberrant) behavior.
(But, I may have referred to the wrong book.)

Yep, like facts, moral codes, and right & wrong, sure are stubborn, inconvenient things!

Excellent post.

Socialists/secularists and their ilk find the concepts of rules, and of right & wrong, very inconvenient.

Hence, the B.S. of “not black & white, but rather shades of gray”, blah, blah, blah.

So much of it is immature, adolescent(or pre-adolescent)-type rationalizing, in order to not feel bad about a particular activity or habit.
Aren’t you curious as to why she puts up with trolls?

Perhaps, because she has a big heart or a sense of humor? She likes puppet theater?
