In today’s edition of Name That Party, we’ve got the Seattle Times missing the mystery letter of the day in its coverage of Dirty Democrat Jim McDermott. You can spot a third paragraph reference to the D word in the story of Dirty Democrat William Jefferson’s brother getting indicted. And wait–oh, there it is–also in the third paragraph–the letter of the day makes an appearance in the sordid tale of Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s Spitzeresque hubby.

Why does that say Governor Patterson will resign? He was hardly caught in a sex scandal and I haven’t heard any rumblings that he would step down.
Guess that was wishful thinking.
No offense but it has never been a mystery to me. At least as long as two (2) decades ago, maybe longer, I noticed that anytime an office holder or other public figure was in trouble and if there was not an “R” next to their name it meant they were a Democrat.
I do not know how long the media has been dropping the “D”, but it would be interesting to find out, just for the heck of finding out.
They must be following the new and revised UPI Styleguide.

I don’t see any difference. They did not put an R next to his name at first mention but did say he was a Republican in the 2nd paragraph, just as they did with McDermott.
Because everyone already knows what party the president belongs to, right?
Just as I would guess that everyone reading McDermott’s hometown newspaper probably knows he’s a dem.
I am perfectly willing to look at any evidence that there is some sort of bias in the use of R or D by the MSM, but this example is a flimsy one.

what i’d like to know about Debbie Stabenow’s husband is why his license was suspended. and did she know her husband was driving on a suspended?
anyway, you already know if the party isn’t in the first paragraph, it’s a democrat.

Actually, here in the Seattle area, we all know he’s an M (for moonbat). Unfortunately, the district that elects him is that shade of tinfoil as well, and the rest of us just get to watch in agony.
I don’t think they’ll ever figure out they are a joke, Michelle. They live in such an insular society wherein they all agree with one another. I believe they think the American people are a bunch of dolts, and the Lord knows the NEA is certainly trying to turn us into it.
I think every parent who is homeschooling their children deserve a medal for saving our country’s future! God bless you one and all (except for the families who are teaching their children hatred. God has a very special Hell awaiting you.)

Well if McCain gets elected, that’ll still be up in the air. As to whether the “D” gets dropped on purpose by the msm, I do recall Little Green Footballs having proof that the AP put an “R” next to Spitzer’s name. Maybe a typo, maybe not…

On the day that the Spitzer scandal was breaking, I was watching MSNBC at work (MSNBC and CNN have been blocked from my tv at home). The talking head was breathlessly reading through a compiled list of other politicians caught in sexual scandals… with a look of glee she would enunciate Republican when appropriate. But, for democrats, she would quickly say their name and then move on to the next on the list. The funny thing is, she had to go back to the 1950’s for some of the Republican examples just so they could have a few more of them than dems. I think Clinton was the last dem she mentioned, so she only had to go back to the 90’s for him.
Anyone who thinks the MSM doesn’t drop the “D” isn’t paying attention or doesn’t want to believe it.

Now tell me, how did these 3 news source show bias in regards to the D and R lettering?
I would hope those bean counters in the media will realize that if our country is divided (pretty much evenly) they can no longer afford to alienate half the population if they wish to continue collecting a pay check.
But in the end, I doubt they will catch on. They are all too partisan.
Because according to AP style guides, and other ones for that matter, the headline already says it all…pretty obvious they’re talking about Republicans.
However in the McDermott case, they leave it out completely in both the headline AND the body copy. According to some style guides, you can leave the (R) and (D) out if it’s a local government official because it is assumed everyone would know. McDermott would be considered someone who is “local” because he represents his district in WA.
Either way, it can also be judgment call based on relevance. So the style guides say…
D is for deceptive.

Not exactly sure what you were trying to convey, but the 1st link opened up and a picture with Foley and the (R) prominently displayed. Matter of fact I wasted my time opening all 3 and all 3 easily indicated party affiliation of Foley….old news btw. He’s gone, William Jefferson’s (D) crap happened about the same time and he is still legislating.
What was your point, except having the resident troll littlegirlyman’s back?

My point is that the same news sources which Michelle linked to reported the a Republican scandal in much the same fashion in regards to party affiliation. This is a weak argument for news bias, especially when one of Michelle’s links points to a Conservative news website.
Are you just provoking, or are you stupid, or honestly didn’t really pay attention? Most conservatives pay close attention to this media bias, it is very frustrating that so-called journalist are so prejudiced in their reporting.
Time after time stories fail to report party affiliation in print and news media; overwhelmingly when it is from your side. The more liberal loon they are, the more it is hidden. Does it happen with a repub, of course, usually every blue moon the alleged journalist will slip and forget to mark in bold the (R).
Ordinarily I would really enjoy slamming Dims for corruption and stuff, but I have to note here that many Republicans have done the corruption dance as well. Just saying that those without sin should throw the first hooker.

Over at the NRO I saw the above and I confess I am starting to feel the same. Getting Spitzer was one thing. The man was a monster, a hypocrite of the first order, and he deserved everything he got. That a 22-year old girl brought him done, something that armies of impotent republicans would never have been able to accomplish, was well worth applauding. But getting itchy over some politician’s spouse being caught by cops on pervert patrol does nothing for me. Shouldn’t these police resources, represented by these sex clowns, be allocated to other and superior ends: e.g. protecting the public against muggers, rapists, and killers? Just a thought.

At the rate things are going, are there going to be any democrats running in 2012? If so, are they going to be running on the campaign slogan, “My police record is less than my opponent’s record”? By then, there will be a law passed banning any use of “-d” or “(D)” in news reports.

No Big Beaver Road is not a joke. The generic name is actually 16 Mile Road which runs parrellel with the border (8 Mile Road)of Detroit. Still relatively safe, 8 miles north of the war zone.
Warning: Crossing 8 Mile Road into Detroit may or will result in loss of life or possessions!
Not that either party has a lock on unsocial behavior, but I have noticed that if a Republican is the subject of the story, the word “Republican” is listed first or second in the story. If it’s a Democrat, it may be mentioned several paragraphs in. I’ve always thought the idea that Republicans are inherently corrupt and Democrats are angels to be laughable. As if one’s party affiliation is, in and of itself, a value or social more.
Our Minneapolis StarTribune was running the Spitzer AP feed, and the ‘comments’ section was filling up with people questioning why it didn’t say “D” or “Democrat” ANYWHERE in the article. So they added it, and an update would come in from AP a few minutes later and it would disappear again. So an editor finally commented that they’d told the AP about it, and that the Strib would put it in a photo caption so it would stay, which they did.

I can sympathize, Deanna. I’m originally from Ithaca, NY… the fingerlakes version of Berkley insanity, and we have another moonbat inductee in the form of Maurice Hinchy. He’s been around for years. I mean from the time I was a kid ’til now in my 30’s. I no longer live in this area, but I wish my parents (who still live there) had better representation.
I don’t care if there is an R or a D after your name, if you just plain suck as a representative, and have numerous scandals attached to your name, you need to step down. Unfortunately, the far left control Ithaca, like they control most college and urban settings. It’s really too sad… probably why many people in their 20’s and 30’s who grew up there don’t stay. Plus, the economy in the Upstate NY region is in the crapper so there’s very little reason to.

Even the wording is misleading. Poor little McDermott is beat up on by the entire GOP. Excpet Boehner is the only one suing him, not the GOP.
As if they wouldn’t get called for it. This is actually a strawman argument but I’ll answer it anyway. I heard they did that with Foley, but IIRC that mistake was widespread when it first broke, probably due to associating the name with ex-House Speaker Tom Foley(D).
There is a difference between mislabeling and deliberately dropping. I’m far more likely to believe the wrong affiliation was used by mistake, then the affiliation was “accidentily” left off (or buried), yet again.
An unintentional error is easier to disprove than an intentional ommission.
I think I might have used our old “friend” former U.S. Representative Robert Torricelli (the Torch; D-NJ) instead of NY Gov. Patterson. Recall that he was forced to step down for disclosure of illegal contributions to his campaign by David Chang, a businessman connected to North Korea. An illegal candidate change to Lautenberg occurred after the allowable deadline. Because he was a Dem.
I thought “D” stood for Dumbass.
