You know something? Even with the crap thrown at him by leftists within and without Hollywood for his unabashed support for gun rights and for conservative issues, even with the diminished acting opportunities, and even with the news media trashing him, he never once complained. He knew there were going to be those who will hate him because of his views and he accepted it as the price of being a public figure and taking a stand controversial issues. The left-wingers complain about chill winds and not playing nice, but Heston always took it with class, dignity, and strength.

RIP. May you rest in peace. You were a talented actor who inspired and awed those who watched you on screen. Every Easter my husband and I watched you in Ben Hur and were amazed by your performance which earned you an Oscar.

You not only talked the talk, you walked the walk. Whether it was Civil Rights, Pro Life, or Gun Rights, you were there to speak up for Conservatives and the issues that we hold dear. You were a man of strength of integrity who spoke to what is and will always be great about America: freedom and the perserverence of the human spirit.

This particular tidbit is tragic, yet ironic, given the overwhelming, opening arms of Hollywood toward the eccentric, nihilistic, and ignorant of the acting and arts community:

Hollywood turned its back on one of its biggest icons for the sin of becoming Republican and of supporting gun rights.

The light of Hollywood is further diminished with this man’s passing. He was one of the “great ones.” He was a humble character unlike the “larger than life” oddities one finds in today’s Hollywood.

Mr. Heston, what you did mattered and will be remembered. Say hi to Ronnie Reagan and the other angels in Heaven.

The showed his life with respect to the political issues he supported and showed his marching with MLK followed by his famous “cold, dead hands” speech at the NRA, and said (by memory) “…he went from liberal issues (see march pix here) to conservative issues (see NRA speech here).

Now anyone who actually knows some vestige of history knows that civil rights in the 60’s was not a liberal issue. If anything, it was truly a conservative issue, as most Dems were pretty much against the concept.

And for that matter, who is to say that the NRA is only composed of conservatives?

The insinuation of liberalism continues at CBS. Surprise.

Wasn’t Martin Luther King a registered republican? I don’t think the term left and right was in our lexicon at the time of Charlton marching with Dr. King in “63″, right or wrong?

I believe MLK was registered as a Republican and his most vicious opponents were Southern Democrats.

I also believe Charlton Heston was originally a democrat but, disappointed about the democratic party’s resistance to the civil rights movement, reregistered as a Republican. When asked why he was leaving the democratic party, Heston response was IIRC, (like the Gipper) ” I didn’t leave the democratic party, the party left me.”

As far as I know, he and John Wayne are the only ones to have an Oscar and a Medal of Freedom.
