Dartmouth still trying to shut down alumni

Conservative blogs have occasionally touched on the ongoing leadership crisis at Dartmouth. It’s summarized nicely by Powerline’s Paul Mirengoff, himself a Dartmouth alum.

Back in God and Man at Yale, William F. Buckley Jr. sought to get his college’s alumni interested–and outraged–at the abuses of common sense going on on Yale’s campus and to get them to impose some accountability on the administration. Such a campaign might be futile at many universities these days, as their endowments are so big they no longer care whether alums contribute or not.

But Dartmouth has been held to account by several independent alums–I won’t even say they’re uniformly conservative, since I don’t know all their politics, but they were outsiders who were determined not to rubberstamp every decision the tenured radicals put in front of them. They’ve had some success.

Dartmouth doesn’t like active, engaged alumni who second-guess them. So Dartmouth has been fighting back, trying to “pack the board” with administration yes-men, and they are trying to dismiss an alumni lawsuit that seeks to stop their plan.

Now Paul Mirengoff is his himself running for a position on the Alumni Association’s Executive Committee. Long and short of it: if you went to Dartmouth, please consider voting for Mirengoff’s slate in the alumni association elections. If you know someone who went there, send them to this site that explains what they’re trying to do. Voting begins April 28th.

Wherever you went to college, if you did, you might consider staying involved in how it runs itself and monitoring what it’s doing to shape young minds. Some schools are more welcoming to alumni involvement than others, but most will present you with some opportunity to make a difference–especially if you donate a bit, and if you show that you’re genuinely interested in helping the institution and not just making a political point.

For example, if there are any University of Wisconsin–Madison alums reading this, you might want to write someone about the standards of civility to speakers

Or, for that matter, if you’re a Wisconsin taxpayer.

Thanks for posting this. My brother went to Dartmouth for undergrad. I will forward this on to him. I’m sure he’ll be happy to vote for Mr. Mirengoff.

The American Council for Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) have been actively involved in exposing the tremendous liberal bias at Dartmouth and most of America’s supposedly elite academic institutions. I suggest that everyone who posts here check the ACTA website and help out this organization.

USNA 2001 here…can’t say I’m too thrilled with the recent performance of of one of our more notable alumni (McCain). Just goes to show that schools with even the most honorable intentions sometimes let us down…

Well, my alma mater Wake Forest just beat Dartmouth for the National Championship in Debate last week! If they don’t get some good leadership in there, they are going to be looking up at the Ivy League of the South (I just made that term up) for a long time.

Victory is so sweet! I can’t get enough of it. We had two Juniors and won 5-0 unanimous decision. I love winning. Winning is what life is all about. . . especially when we beat someone at their own game. woohoo!

The administration probably sees the conservative alumni as a destructive force at Dartmouth. If they want to second guess routine faculty hiring on the basis of superficial left/right political considerations, they will make it very hard for Dartmouth to hire anyone good.

Boy oh boy — I hope second guessing does keep out all the people lgm would consider to be ‘good’…maybe then people could get a real education and not be indoctrinated by leftist freaks.

It will be a very cold day before I contribute willing to Southern Illinois University. The Alumni Association calls me all the time trying to get money. I earned my degree while stationed at Travis AFB through an extension campus program. I have yet to visit the campus more or less want to give what is left of my meager available cash to fund the hallowed halls of liberalism and intolerance.

What’s wrong math boy, did you not get hired? Seems the case doesn’t it. But it’s okay, you still have your head on your neck so keep trying.

Is there a conservative university left in the US? I am sending a grandson to college this fall and refuse to subsidize a liberal cesspool.
