Where in the world

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 7, 2008 10:31 AM

I arrived in Hattiesburg, Mississippi over the weekend and will be speaking this morning at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville. The weather’s fab here and my gracious hosts took me to Angus Jack’s Steakhouse. Great ribeye. So far, though, nothing has topped the cheese curds the College Republicans in Madison introduced me to last week. Yum.

Speaking of Madison, there are a few more follow-up pieces on my eventful visit there last week.

Mattie Dupler of the UW-Madison College Republicans excoriates the Neanderthal whose idea of academic discourse was to call me a “dumb f**k.”

Like most conservatives at Madison, one of my main gripes with this campus is that its liberalism only applies to Liberals. Nothing could have demonstrated this better than the events on Friday night when the College Republicans brought Michelle Malkin to campus to speak on immigration. In true democratic UW fashion, there was plenty of time for Q and A afterward. At this point things, as they normally do, got interesting. The lecture had been laden with rude remarks from the audience, but nothing was more offensive than when a student used his 15 seconds of fame to yell clarification of his sources to the invited lecturer: “A review of the book, you dumb fuck.”

I’ll give you a moment to let that sink in.

Ignoring the hostility that is normally evoked at conservative events, I find this event alarming for reasons beyond its political resonance. Sure, we’ve grown up in an age where profanity has become increasingly more commonplace. That an individual feels this is appropriate language for any instance is certainly a reflection on his own discretion; that it could enter the mind of a student of this supposedly acclaimed university that such prose should be invoked against an invited and distinguished lecturer should cause us all to balk.

Now, this kid is probably just an idiot with no filter between his (small) brain and mouth. Or maybe he was drunk. Either way, I don’t want to be affiliated with him. And as a fellow student, neither should you.

How can it be acceptable that there are those among us who blatantly disregard the liberal ideals that have secured this institution’s primacy? It should be of concern to us all that a student uses cheap, profane language when he is representing the university. What it certainly should do is cause reflection: What has happened to UW?

Here’s another write-up that does a fairly good job of summarizing the speech, while neglecting to mention all of the nutballs who profanely interjected.

Thankfully, they’ve got better manners here in Mississippi, so I’m looking forward to a fruitful exchange.

Sidenotes:

*The wonderful See-Dubya will be guest-blogging this afternoon while I’m flying home (yeah!).

*I’m leaving the Absolut post in the Lead Story spot since a lot of folks outside the blogosphere are just hearing about it for the first time or catching up with the weekend’s developments. Here’s the Independent’s coverage today.

I’ll have to compile another best-of Absolut photoshops when I have a spare moment. But here’s one from Texas blogger Jessica’s Well that I had to share right away:

absolut_fail.jpg

The explanation:

With my Texas upbringing I would naturally assume that anyone anywhere viewing this would know immediately what it is, but for those that don’t it is a famous old rendering of Santa Anna (replaced by the Absolut bottle) surrendering to Sam Houston (sitting at base of tree) immediately following the battle of San Jacinto. After San Jacinto, General Santa Anna, after sacrificing several thousand of his soldiers lives to take the Alamo, gave up all of the rest of Texas to save his own.

And I realize that the word “Fail” is being using as a noun here….but just go with me on this….it is an internet/gamer thing.

Har.

From what I’ve seen, University ghetto growth is caused by diversity. Most of the Subculture, illegal Mexicans, and miscellaneous trash have no clue what an education environment is or how to conduct one’s self in the pursuit of a higher education. As the old saying goes, you can take the kid out of the ghetto but you can take the ghetto out of the kid. It’s a Subculture thing that many whites, illegal Mexicans, and miscellaneous trash mimic. A diverse university administration and faculty are part of the problem. They are the one’s who brought politics to education.

I hope it wouldn’t be too far off the mark for me to give a shout out to NORTHWESTERN University in Roseville, MN. I am NOT a native of MN, nor would I want to be considering the libtard atmosphere here, but Northwestern is a bastion of righteous common sense and any visit by Michelle would probably be celebrated and welcomed if she would consider it.

I could be induced to attend such an event if it were close enough. A good meal could include some catfish, hushpuppies, fries, and a tall glass of sweet tea. YUM, YUM!!!
Michelle, have a good time in Hattiesburg and have a safe trip home.

jenmom, that’s why I mentioned the statue in Indy. The story of the Battle of San Jacinto encompasses quite a bit more than the local lore when you see where everyone came from to fight in it. That map probably irritates a whole of people well outside of the boundaries it depicts.

Try growing up and living in such a place for most of your life. I grew up and lived in Ithaca, NY- home to such Ivy League bastions as Cornell University, and was exposed to a lot of what the far left/Commies thought of our country.

It isn’t pretty and has just gotten worse throughout the years. I, thankfully, no longer live in Ithaca. It’s a haven for hippies, disaffected urbanites, and college students of course. Usually when any college town begins to revolve around liberal thought, the economy or opportunities begin to dry up.

When the biggest employer is education, it’s a sure giveaway that liberals will determine the shape and freedoms of any given college town. They’re very good at giving each other promotions, promoting causes like the environment and gay, lesbian, transgendered/transexual rights, and indoctrinating the next generation, but not so good at solving problems such as gangs and poor economic development.

Such environments are good for liberals but not so good for the rest of us who believe in a healthy balance of ideas and approaches to a community’s health and prosperity.

You are correct. We lived in SA when I was a kid (dad was stationed at Ft Sam), so we went to the Alamo a few times. I’ve been again more recently (in particular when I was in SA for a convention about 4 years ago, when I still lived in AR), and went over to the Alamo with a co-worker who had never been. The Texicans who defended the Alamo were both of Mexican heritage, as well as Americans from all over, and IIRC, sometimes from places in Europe. Each of the defenders who died there is listed, with where they came from. We Texans proudly remember those responsible for the birth of the Republic of Texas. I live in Travis County (named for Wm. B. Travis), I have aunt and uncle who graduated from Crockett HS (as in Davie), sisters and cousins who graduated from James Bowie HS.
