The AP and Bilal Hussein: Story is not over
The Associated Press is reporting:
An Iraqi judicial committee has dismissed terrorism-related allegations against Associated Press photographer Bilal Hussein and ordered him freed after nearly two years in U.S. military custody.
The decision by a four-judge panel says Hussein’s case falls under a new amnesty law and orders Iraqi courts to “cease legal proceedings.” The ruling says that Hussein should be “immediately” released if no other charges are pending.
The ruling is dated Monday but AP’s lawyers were not able to thoroughly review it until Wednesday.
There is more to this story, believe me. Amnesty does not equal absolution.
Stay tuned–and do not just rely on the conflict-of-interest-addled Associated Press for the news.

So slap a tail on this goon and follow him to find some terrorists. Worse things have happened.
Hopefully he’ll end up in Gitmo.
Weren’t known terrorists offered “amnesty” if they repented and stopped trying to kill Americans? Is that the “new law” that gives Bilal “amnesty”?
Also, why is the GBU-39 now a taboo here?
Al-Pazeera is likely to take it as a acquittal and put him back on the payroll.
Of course, there was little evidence against him either.
Amnesty is essentially a legislative pardon for a criminal act. To qualify for amnesty, one has to have been involved in the commission of a criminal act. Just wondering out loud what crime made him eligible for a pardon.
You surely didn’t mean that did you?
OK. If you say so.
Yeah, lgm, you know the AP journalists do what they do just for the good of mankind.
They would NEVER protect one their own if he did something that might hurt the Bush administration, oh no, that wouldn’t be proper, and all of them are proper folk.
The pictures are enough for me! We should not have to worry about a terrorist “rights” As far as I am concerned the only “right this man has is the “right” to DIE AND GO TO HELL!!!
Wow.
The man was detained without charge for over a year. The courts reviewed his case and exonorated him. But he should die and go to hell, why exactly? Is there something you know the courts don’t? Perhaps being part of the Associated [with terrorists!] Press is reason enough?
A study of the photos and examination of other witnesses bore out the account, and military investigators also acknowledged off the record that there was no real basis for charges. But they continued to raise them nonetheless — apparently because they were under relentless pressure to come up with some charges.
Hey huggybear, you need to read something other than AP propaganda:

No real basis, my ass.
We have lost this war. To Islamic nut cases. But are there any other type of Muslims?
Won’t be long now before he’s into the time-honored art of fabricating photos for propagandist purposes. Thanks undefined legal system! (The US is the bad guy… again… just like always!)
I’m sure he’ll be offered a teaching job at Columbia University school of journalism where he’ll be treated like a celebrity.
