Jamiel’s Law update: LA City councilman proposes illegal alien sanctuary law changes

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 11, 2008 01:14 PM

It’s like turning around the Titanic, but there’s finally a Los Angeles politician attempting to make the first common-sense change to the city’s decades-old illegal alien sanctuary law in the wake of Jamiel Shaw’s murder by an illegal alien gang member:

A proposal to go after gang members who are in the country illegally gained support Thursday from Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine, who said he will seek to amend an LAPD policy that currently bars police officers from asking arrestees about their legal status.

The councilman, who has spent almost 40 years with the Los Angeles Police Department — in recent years as a reserve officer — will introduce a motion Friday asking that Special Order 40 be amended to allow police officers to notify federal immigration officials of gang members who are in the United States illegally.

Special Order 40 prohibits Los Angeles police officers from questioning or arresting suspects based solely on their immigration status. The order is intended to encourage illegal immigrants to report crimes and assist police.

“The fact is that Special Order 40 allows Los Angeles police officers to inquire about immigration status if a crime has been committed, and reinforces the effort to deport an illegal immigrant if a crime has been committed,” Zine said.

“We can now take it one step further and say that if an individual is a known gang member and an illegal immigrant, that the LAPD has the responsibility and duty to turn the individual over to federal immigration officials.”

Took ‘em long enough–and too many innocent lives–to figure that out.

It’s time to put nationwide pressure on open-borders LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa–who is too busy shilling for Hillary and chiding ICE agents for doing their jobs.

For Jamiel Shaw and every other innocent casualty of lax immigration enforcement and deadly don’t ask/don’t tell laws, raise your voice against sanctuary:

E-mail Villaraigosa at mayor@lacity.org.

How many lives will have to be lost before the LA City Council just repeals Special Order #40 altogether? Why did it have to take a victim’s family pleading with them to make a change? Why?

I know it’s a baby step but it doesn’t nearly go far enough. Even if the LA City Council takes this step, would there still be enough enforcement? Wouldn’t the police complain that they still don’t have enough manpower to crack down on gangs and punt the problem over to the federal government? Yet, if they did it, they wouldn’t let ICE anywhere near these gang members.

This council has a dodgy track record. I’ll believe it when I see it.

So what? All this means is that Dennis Zine’s career is over. That’s if he’s lucky. This is Los Angeles and after this move, he’ll have a big fat target on his chest and he’ll be lucky to survive long enough to find a new career.

Don’t expect John McCain to add him to the administration.

How many rapes, robberies, jobs lost, people moving, hospitals closing? I don’t think they care. To them this is war. It is about the conquest of America and the pre-eminence of La Raza.

Which black leader has spoke out about this?

    None!

They remain silent on the invasion, guaranteeing the black community super minority status in the USA. Allowing them all the benefits that they are entitled as super minority.

Until blacks nationwide unite on this issue of illegal immigration, it will never stop.

If you are out of the Identify Politics loop, how do you get heard? How do you get the establishment of care? Well you don’t, you can’t. The dilemma for black people in L.A. is quite serious now that it is a Latino town: are Hispanics honorary white people? If so, then the threat of violence may well be effective. It won’t take too many full-scale riots to get this law changed. Or are Hispanics fellow brothers of color? In which case, black people will be told to take a hike and they won’t do anything. And even if the current law is repealed, so what? No one, but no one, should expect immigrations status to suddenly be of interest to the cops, at least any cop who wants to keep his job, be promoted, etc.

This is incredibly nasty stuff and it shows better than any other example where this country is heading. Everyone knows had this young man been white, no one would have cared. Oh sure, some white person somewhere might have written a letter. Like every molecule is trembling at that thought.

For Identity Politics to work, there must be groups that don’t count. It’s the threat of social disruption, up to an including violence and/or the credible threat thereof that is the only thing that works politically. Does anyone, anywhere seriously worry about Jews or Asians rioting or causing acts of terror? Money, as in contributions, doesn’t matter much at all anymore.

I am still clueless as to why we have Black (Afrocentric) communities, Italian Communities, White communities or any other sub-culture as anything more than a celebration of diversity and not as a reminder of differences.

I would be happy to see a Crescent next to a Star of David next to a Cross all in celebration of our diversity as an American people without ANY of them being worth less or more.

Unless we can re-identify ourselves as Americans first and celebrate our diverse cultures (NO SUB NEEDED) and our points of Unity rather than instigating division and angst, we are truly lost as a Nation.

When you can go to Mexico as an illegal alien, buy property (Which even LEGAL aliens may not do currently) get a job or even something so seemingly simple as a driver’s license, then come talk to me about constitutional rights for non-citizens.

If we can not bridge these gaps and find common grounds as Americans and a common enemy among those who seek to destroy the very foundations of our nation and our principles, than we are already lost.

I recently lost a bet to a European because I could not get any backing for the American people to accept a challenge, thus my current destination teaching English in a foreign university and not heading back to the States. Even worse, I fear in my heart that there will soon be nothing left of the United States worth returning to.

How about American, not American and Anti-American with a celebration of diversity and no subculture, no subsets and nobody better or worse than anyone lest their own personal actions prove otherwise? (Like blatantly seditious anti-American actions perhaps?)

Ending my rant now and going for more coffee. Maybe I should switch to decaf?
