We're too "touchy-feely" and sensitive to have public executions. It must be done privately, with as little trauma to the audience as possible. The heck with the criminal. Personally, given a choice, I'd rather be hanged than given the needle. Slowly watching the chemicals coming down the tube, is torture to me. An open trapdoor, a quick "snap" and it's all over. Firing squad is another way, I would prefer; over in a second. No watching the bullets slowly coming toward me. Pretty painless ways. Better than slowly going to sleep, thinking about it.
