The Feel Your Pain forum open thread: “Do you believe God wants you to be president?” Hillary: “I guess we’ll find out;” the Obamessiah enters Messiah College, defends small-town diss– “Cling” is in the Bible!

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 13, 2008 08:14 PM

I’ve had such a wonderful, unplugged Sunday with my family. Hope you did, too. Now, I’m looking at Hillary Clinton’s mug on CNN. It’s the “Compassion Forum.” She’s babbling about God and democracy and I don’t know what. Is she going to cry? Oh, no. She’s launching into an anecdote about a woman whose grandson was murdered and how strongly she believes in her faith. Fact checker alert.

“It’s about grace. It’s not about Me.”

She’s laying it on thick.

Agonizingly fake.

***

More fakery: Hillary swilling beer.

***
8:36pm Eastern. Newsweek’s Jon Meacham asks with a straight face: “Why do you think it is that a loving God allows people to suffer? …And you have 30 seconds.”

Hillary: All pious. “Ooooooh. I can’t wait to ask him.”

8:39pm Eastern. Campbell Brown: Do you have a favorite Bible story?

Hillary cites the book of Esther.

8:42pm Eastern. A Muslim asks about compassion. Hillary’s talking about Gore bulbs and global warming.

8:47pm Eastern
. Jon Meacham–the guy is asking for an SNL parody–asks with a straight face: “Do you believe God wants you to be president?”

Hillary: “I could be glib and say, ‘I guess we’ll find out.’”

Hillary says she believes in humility.

8:52pm Eastern. The Obamessiah makes his entrance at Messiah College.

Overload.

8:54pm Eastern. First question for Obama is about his small-town clingy diss.

Obama’s new spin: “Cling” is in the Bible! Oh, and it’s the government’s fault.

And this is a distraction.

9:03pm Eastern. Meacham: Does life begin at conception?

Obama: I haven’t come to a firm resolution on that question. I don’t presume to know the answer to that question.

9:10pm Eastern. Meacham asks about Obama’s “babies-as-punishment” remark. Obama: “All I meant was we have to prevent teenage pregnancies.” Actually, he wasn’t talking about “prevention.” He was talking about abortion as after-the-fact birth control.

9:25pm Eastern. Obama: Jeremiah Wright has been distorted.

Meanwhile:

Rev. Jeremiah Wright told a congregation in Norfolk, Va., on Sunday that reporters sneaked into a private funeral service a day before, in which he blasted America’s founding fathers for slavery and white supremacy and received standing ovations for attacking FOX News for covering his anti-American sermons.

Barack Obama’s retiring pastor delivered a sermon at Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, where his late uncle had been the pastor, about overcoming trouble. The public appearance was his first since news broke that the Democratic presidential candidate’s pastor frequently rails on the United States.

“Some troubles that come up in your life come up out of nowhere,” Wright said. At the end of the two-hour-plus service, about two dozen ministers gathered around Wright and his daughter to pray for them. One of the ministers asked God to give Wright courage as “the world tries to demonize him.”

Though Wright said nothing about Obama or the uproar itself, he alluded to the controversy while briefly back in the pulpit Saturday to deliver a eulogy for a late congregant of Trinity United Church of Christ — former appellate judge R. Eugene Pincham.

Wright, who is on sabbatical before retiring from Trinity United, said America’s mistreatment of blacks is the result of the founding fathers, who “planted slavery and white supremacy in the DNA of this republic.”

First reported by The Chicago Sun Times, Wright told mourners at the funeral that Thomas Jefferson, who partook in “pedophilia,” would also be considered unpatriotic these days because he wrote, “God would punish America for the sin of slavery.” He also quoted Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who said that the U.S. has a “congenital birth defect.”

What a left-left-left wing forum. CNN says there will be another one. Will they be able to find a single conservative leader of faith to ask questions?

Here’s something I’ve been thinking, about why the GOP has failed to sustain its seemingly crushing tide.

A decade ago, the only party that would have a Presidential candidate describe herself as “a born again, gun toting, God fearing woman” would have been a Republican. Now in 2008, it is (clearly a joke) but Hillary herself is touting these credentials.

Which makes me think that a) conservatives were successfully able to change the terminology in such an effective way that both Democrats are trying to appeal to those segments mentioned above, but b) the GOP was completely unable to sustain electoral success.

Ask any person in the Clinton era if the 2008 Dems would be having such an argument and you chided for such crazy talk.

Obama has not yet come to a firm resolution that life begins at birth.

In 2002, as an Illinois legislator, Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies that survived late-term abortions

But Obama voted against this bill in the Illinois senate and killed it in committee. Twice, the Induced Infant Liability Act came up in the Judiciary Committee on which he served. At its first reading he voted “present.” At the second he voted “no.”

The bill was then referred to the senate’s Health and Human Services Committee, which Obama chaired after the Illinois Senate went Democratic in 2003. As chairman, he never called the bill up for a vote.

I thought it was interesting that (at least when I was tuned in) the fact that the forum was at Messiah College was not that evident. Maybe CNN wanted to avoid the Obamessiah connection to be underplayed… or maybe Messiah College wanted to avoid it? Usually at these types of events it seems to me that the hosting college gets some air time to show their campus/plug the school..Maybe that happened but I didn’t see it. My son went there and did tech work for these forums..he said that there are people holding applause signs so that the participants will receive “polite applause” at the appropriate times. Don’t know how they decide when the “appropriate” times are. Noticed that Jim Wallace was there…the Dems anointed one to reach out to the religious community. This might have been interesting if they had invited say a James Dobson to ask questions.

European kings created New World slavery. The men fighting in the “Revolutionary War” fired a shot “heard ’round the world.” In 1787 the Continental Congress passed the Northwest Ordinance Act. The Northwest Ordinance Act (Article 6) banned slavery in the new territories. The Northwest Territories became the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin. This act created a bloc of free states that joined the northeastern states in 1860 to confront the powers in the southern states that wanted to continue slavery. The Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 were just tests of the intent of the Northwest Ordinance Act and were the sparks that caused the civil war.
Biblical “scholar” Wright is just a manipulative ingrate.

Fortunately, John McCain had the good sense not to fall for the CNN set up. The CNN game plan was to give the Democrats softball questions and then to pummel McCain with questions about how Republicans can claim to have religious faith while they toss people out of hospitals and toss poor people out of their homes. Campbell Brown is a liberal Democrat as is Jon Mechem. CNN did the same stunt last year and tricked Israel’s president Shimon Peres into being interviewed. Peres should have known that once Christine Amanpour was assigned, it would be a hit piece. Amanpour told Peres that the interview would be about Judaism. Instead, she peppered Peres with accusations about Israel’s “violations of international law”. When Peres tried to rebut her, Amanpour kept thundering “Your words, your words” at Peres. This is the same trick that CNN had prepared for McCain. Fortunately, this time CNN did not have the criminal in the dock.

Amanpour is THE worst. I ALWAYS change the channel when she is on. It is obvious that she is so full of herself. She is the most elitist of the elitists. I dislike her more than Nancy Grace, and that’s saying something. Amanpour never offers anything of substance, it is always spin to her view.

he said that there are people holding applause signs so that the participants will receive “polite applause” at the appropriate times.

Can an image be any more manufactured than this Obama’s image? It is really starting to get scary how contrived this person is.

Dr. Frank Page, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, is one name I recognize. He was there and I saw one question he asked about Southern Baptist faith-based abstinence work in Africa. Obama punted and gave a non-answer.

This was the next interchange with Obama. (I read about this on Jill Stanek’s website and that’s when I searched for the transcript).

MEACHAM: Sir, in an earlier occasion in…

    (APPLAUSE)

… an earlier occasion in talking about your own daughters and talking about sex education and contraception, you said that you would not want your daughter “punished with a baby” if she made a mistake, that you would teach values and morals, but if something were to happen. The phrase “punished with a baby” was jarring to a number of people. Could you explain what you meant by that?

OBAMA: Well, keep in mind, on that same day, I said children are miracles, and so I think it’s important not to parse my words too carefully here. What I was saying was that my daughters are 9 and 6.

    (LAUGHTER)

And so if, at the age of 12 or 13, they made what I would consider to be a mistake, in having sex or unprotected sex, and ended up getting pregnant — I think that statistically we know 12- or 13- year-olds who are having children are much more likely to be impoverished, are much more likely to have health problems, are much more likely to have trouble raising that child.

What I want to know is what kind of a dad can sit there and talk about his girls having sex at age 12 or 13? This is unconscionable to me.
