This is deinitely a good thing. I have no idea how and if the Italian Government works, and it doesn’t seem to work all that well if they have to revamp every few years….but if that’s how it’s going to be, it might as well be friendly with America.
I agree that this is a good thing. My friend is stationed in Italy and told me this was going to happen but you know the old don’t count your chickens before they hatch saying.
Why yes, I would like some zuppa tuscana soup for lunch!
Yep…back to conservatives. After the lefties FAILED at their so-called economic “plans” that put Italy into further disaster.
Good Lord. I knew I’d seen that dance before.
Definately having Preseco with dinner tonight.
Remember the Roberto Benigni VS Berlusconi spat?

I agree; but, let me comment on the
“revamp every few years” part.
You’re being just a wee bit too generous!
This election of Berlusconi is the 62nd government Italy has had since WWII.
62 governments in 63 years.
I’d always (for a few decades) thought that Italy had a bit over one government per year, rather than a bit under (the government/year ratio).
Damn, I just missed it!

And, welcome to you and to the rest of the newcomers.
How long until the Italians vote him out for the 3rd time?
Merkel in Germany… Sarkozy in France… and now Berlusconi in Italy. For hating America so much, Europeans sure have a funny way of electing conservatives of their own.
I blame George Bush!!
Thanks granite, for the welcome.
w00t! chalk one up for the good guys in italy?
Does this mean someone is going to step up to the plate about the islamification happening in Europe? As a conservative has this man addressed that issue?
They just had elections in 2006. I think Prodi is losing because of his poor handling of the economy, that garbage mess in Naples, and he increased taxes which really made him unpopular.
Will be interesting to see what kind of coalitions or alliances Berlusconi will make.
Huh. Now if only we could get a real conservative in America…
I always liked the fact that the man had the intestinal fortitude that his fellow mealy mouthed EU brethren seemed to lack. Which is of course why they hate him. I would be curious to hear his opinion on the Hamas Imams comment on Rome falling to Islam.
Hey, so now if a Dem wins, we have a choice – we can move to France OR Italy!
Hmm, crepes or gilato??
Ahhh … Willie Pete … nothing like a little “Dino” wit the “Vino” …
Wonderful indeed! Great news.
It never occurred to me at a Marxist would ever be caught on video dancing.
Please tell me this means more photos of that hot babe in Parliament with whom he was friendly.
“The left has no taste, even when it comes to women” – Berlusconi
Sorry, more decorum next time…
Maybe the people of Europe are tired of trying to coddle up and make piece with radical musliums, having no jobs, and leaders who act like the spineless Democrats here but by changing to tougher leaders will not only help their economy but also their security. But I have been wrong before….. Thanks for the welcome granite
#13, see my post above. Ok decorum to follow the next next time.
Kind of ironic. Europeans are electing conservatives all over the place and we are electing Eurosocialists.
What are those? Are they like arugula?
Careful, one might start calling you a snob or elitist.
The Italians are very fickle voters. It’s hard in that country to maintain power if one party doesn’t have a solid majority in parliament. If you don’t, and you can’t form a coalition that will last then you’re toast. Then, there is the fact that the Socialists/Lefties didn’t really do much to improve Italy’s overall stature in Europe.
The only problem with Berlosconi is usually when he attains office, he screws it up with some corruption scandal or other. I don’t see his grip on power lasting any longer than the Socialists’ did.
I could be wrong…. maybe the Italians have figured a way to politically play nice and put partisan differences to the side for the benefit of the country?
Oh, naaawwww… just jokin’ about that last part.
Agreed.
Oh, by the way, there is a similar political environment right now in Spain. Spain has a socialist prime minister but the socialists have a very slim majority in parliament. That always spells trouble for any prime minister trying to get something done.
Perhaps, the Conservatives in Spain learned something just as they did in Italy. Could American Conservatives or the Republican Party learn a thing or two from these two countries?
You never know….
Crepes are a French dessert and gilato is Italian ice cream. Both are generally found for very cheap on the streets in their country, and I guarantee that neither are “elitist.” If I could afford them as a college student, anyone can!
Here in flyover America, that would be flap jacks and ice cream? (together? hmmm not a bad idea.)
Sorry I was just be sarcastic.
italy is hopeless. they’ve had about 50 different gov’ts in as much time.
missed opportunity for a rickroll
Italy to Burlusconi “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
Look closely at what this vote says – the Lega Nord is Berlusconi’s coalition partner. They’re northern Italian separatists. They represent the most wealthy, sophisticated and European parts of the country. They ran on an anti-immigration platform and they DOUBLED their vote.
If that can happen in liberal Milan, it can also happen in the conservative south of France, in Belgium, and in the Netherlands.
It’s a very positive sign that the European people are waking up.
My bad, you got me on that one. :0)
If any of you have driven through Naples lately you can see from the piles of trash just how dysfunctional the Italian Prodi government and its caretaker replacement had become. I was there in February and was amazed that something that is a basic government service as trash disposal had been allowed to become a political football. It was like being in some third world hell-hole.
Maybe Europe is starting to finally wake up to the enemy amongst them by starting to select conservatives (at least they are for Europeans). They keep this up and I could almost see a Charles Martel emerging in their future to save them from the doom of Islam.
Very good news for Italy and the West in general. Add this to a pro-American French leader and…
France and now Italy!!!
There is still a light for freedom in Europe.
Hi, i’m a simple italian, i don’t follow very well political affairs. buti didn’t vote for le left alliance, beacouse i saw in this years, our money are less and less, and the price of life in always in growing. so i have to be happy now?…i don’t know, i live in milan and not in naples, but i think that is more than 6 months that all televisions, particulary berlusconi’s mediaset news service show everyday how prodi was inable and how the things was going bad beacouse of his governament…i’m scare about how the information can change and formed the “free decision” of italians. i hope that berlusconi like money in general and not his money and stop. the lega nord won very well, a lega nord boom, with berlusconi, becouse the people had fear, almost every week some italian person was killed or raped or other crime from someone else like rom or rumen or polish…and the only desperate decision is to vote for someone who want to close the country from this people…did you konw this? i feel like we are trying to became safe…but in prigion i hope for better. sorry for my english. i saw something wrong: prosecco, gelato, zuppa meaning soup…ecc…
bye
Quick, get the salesmen out and start mass production – I think you’ve got a winner!!
Ice cream rolled up in a crepe – what a genius!
Don’t worry Eleonora, you’re making more sense than a troll we could mention.
I am grateful to the Italians. Whenever a foreigner asks how Americans could elect such an obvious bad person as Bush I point to the Italians. They elected someone who ran last time in order to change Italian criminal law in a way that allowed him to escape criminal prosecution.
in italy clever people use to say :during the day left and right are in fight, at dinner are all together friends at the same table for eat and drink with our money
That was a graceful reply, eleonora82. Most Americans, upon meeting someone from another country, don’t proceed to insult that country. lgm is sort of an exception around here.
LGM did they ask you how the Yanks voted for the Jew hating Carter? I bet they didn’t. I thought you didn’t believe in criminal activity since you view sin as not relevant.
Make that France, Italy or Germany. The big 3 of socialist europe are all run by a conservative leader!
Thank you, eleonora82 #39…
Re; “becouse the people had fear, almost every week some italian person was killed or raped or other crime from someone else like rom or rumen or polish…” There was a time, not long ago, when Americans cared about such things. We used to refer to the issue as “law & order”… but I have not heard of an American candidate speak of this issue in years.
forza berlusconi!
Vita lunga al Berlusconi! morte ai nemici di libertà!

Your English is just fine.
We offer our apologies for lgm’s impoliteness.
You must understand he is one of our buffoni, so he does serve some purpose.

Benvenuto to the blog.
Ain’t that the truth
you do know that the Berlusconi administration was the longest serving government of any Italian administration, by 6 years before losing to Prodi in 2006. thats pretty remarkable given Italy’s penchant for unstable governments lasting 3 months to 2 years.
I think Berlusconi needs to do something about his media empire which is a conflict of interest with his duties as Prime Minister. I think his assocation with his company caused problems for him. Last I heard, wasn’t there an investigation on Berlusconi during the election in 2006. I hadn’t heard anything since then.
Eleonora bravo great post i like having a pro usa europe.
the “famous” post by lgm didn’t insult me…becouse in italy the 1/3 of people, often youngs, say that all the time, berlusconi made laws to not be investigate about his interess conflict. i think in italy a person who make an imperios like his in 30/40 years surely had done something not clear. but i’m not interesting about that,i’m “happy for him” and his success and italians vote for him hoping that he do the same success with us. i only hope that something change, but i repeat my mood is not hight….ah…i want to know: do you have someone who control all television?we do! spero che cambi qualcosa, berlusconi non è un politico, è un manager.
Bravo Berlusconi!
With France, Italy and even Germany making turns to the right, it is very discouraging to watch the U.S. court Marxism.
IMHO America is a dead man standing. The Baby Boomers swallowed Socialism whole hog and have been trying their damnedest to implement it because they are smarter than the rest of us, so they should rule us. They are succeeding. We are like the hero in The 13th Warrior movie. He killed the evil queen witch (think USSR) but got stabbed with the poison (socialism). In the end, he too died (we are no longer America, but a Socialist “Paradise”). Look at our three candidates for POTUS. QED.
I choose gelato, chianti, and the Italian World Cup soccer team!
Ciao Bella, Italia!
