Obama getting slapped around for campaign finance fibs (Deliciously UPDATED)
{Post, and front page image, by See-Dubya}
While Obama’s Crackerquiddick condescension burns through the internet, another minor scandal is simmering on the back burner. Bill Clinton brought the matter up a few days ago, only to be hit back hard with a little racial demagoguery. But things have changed, and it looks like they’re trying a do-over on the Obamessiah’s claims of campaign-finance purity:
Obama told the crowd that’s why he doesn’t accept contributions from political action committees or lobbyists.
“They’re not funding my campaign. They won’t run my White House,” he said.
However, campaign finance records show that Obama has received tens of thousands of dollars from people in many of the same groups and industries he regularly rails against.
“He may not take money from (political action committees) or lobbyists, but he is taking interest money,” said Sheila Krumholtz, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign finance issues.
“He’s getting a lot of money from individuals representing lawyers and law firms, security firms, real estate and Hollywood,” Krumholtz said. “You can’t say that he doesn’t take special-interest money.”
Even…gasp..big oil? Big pharma?
People in the oil and gas industries have given $222,309 to Obama. He received $528,765 from the pharmaceutical and health industry, making him the largest recipient of the sector’s largesse.
Say it ain’t so, Barry O!
Of course, this kind of truth-shading couldn’t even slow down the Hopey McProgress juggernaut, but it takes some of the shine off. Obama’s most idealistic fans wouldn’t bat an eye at the contributions themselves, but they’ll get to stumble around a little bit explaining the Chosen One’s Clintonian meaning-of-is-is, did-not-have-financial-relations-with-that-industry, carefully parsed boasts.
Allah-style exit question: Does HillaryCo. really want to go down this road? Because all Obama has to do is bring up Norman Hsu and they’ll start to regret it.

UPDATE: New commenter Silkyinfamous finds that even NPR is looking into the truth of Obama’s beatitudes:
It is true, Obama does not take money from oil companies. No one does – it’s illegal. It’s sort of like Obama saying “I don’t rob banks to finance my campaign” – that would be illegal too. But he also does not take money from oil company political action committees (PACs) or lobbyists.
But boy, he sure does take money from people who work for oil companies. A lot of money. …
…[T]wo of Obama’s fundraisers are oil company executives: Robert Cavnar, the chairman and chief executive of Houston-based Mission Resources Corp., and George Kaiser, the president and CEO of Tulsa-based Kaiser-Francis Oil Co.
My, this popcorn is delicious.

I am blinded by the halo, or is that the stink? Can’t tell which right now!
Does he take union money? I guess money forced from the hands of workers and used against many of their wishes doesn’t taint his campaign or party.
He was at the Getty house last week raising money. Getty – oil, naw…
How about the the meeting at the Pakistani guy’s house in Atherton who gave $2.5 million to Stanford for an Islamic studies program? Islam won’t have any influence on him of course.
Don’t worry, they may be bitter about it but they’ll cling to their guns and religion (guess which one he means) and bigotry and hide out in rural Pennsylvania.
Is anyone surprised? com on trolls, you have to be aghast at this revelation. Let’s see how you spin this one.
Do as I say, not as I do. Barry can get around “not taking money from big business” because he takes it from their surrogates. But if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then . . .
Obamites don’t care if he’s a fraud.
The didn’t reason themselves into his cult.
H/T Jonathan Swift.
Typical political hypocrisy from yet another candidate. If a politician, Democrat or Republican, tells you that that haven’t done something or won’t do something, you had better check for yourself.
ya got your mug shots (Hillary toasting the crowd with a beer)
and then ya got the smug shots (Obama voguing ‘em with a sneer)
the levels this party has sunken to..
Who-da thunk.
If the Hsu fits……The Clinton are the last one to talk about campaign funds. At this point the Clinton’s just look desperate.
It’s getting so bad out there, even some of the libs are starting call him Oh, Bummer!
So Some People in industries such as Pharma like Barack Obama. So whats the issue? Lets use numbers to explain Pharma: According to the DOL, “Pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing provided 292,000 wage and salary jobs in 2006. Pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing establishments usually employ many workers. Nearly 90 percent of this industry’s jobs in 2006 were in establishments that employed more than 100 workers (chart 1). Most jobs are in California, Illinois, Texas, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.” And Guess what States are majority Democrat? You got it, all of them involved. So the majority of the 300,000 people who work in Pharma live in Blue States and Donate to Democrats. Solved.

You have to admit, it’s fun sitting here watching the Dems shoot each other in the foot.
I am shocked! Shocked! That there is Payola going on! What naive children they must think we all are. Too bad McCain-Feingold no longer allows the leveling of the playing field.
Yes We CanI Got MIneBite your tongue. Texas isn’t majority Democrat yet, and won’t be unless you libs manage to naturalize all those illegals or speed up the invasion from the Northeast and West Coast.
How Obamamazing! I guess Obummer mispoke or forgot to mention the little tidbit about him taking special interest money. Again, tell me, how different is this guy from Clinton or McCain?
Makes the following statement seem a little naive or deceitful:
I must say, is this guy’s halo looking a little tattered or what?
Well, lets see. He’s a politician with his mouth open. I’d say there is a 99% chance there is a lie being spoken. 1% chance he is speechless. Truth, I don’t think politicians know what that is anymore. It seems to them it’s anything they can say without getting into too much trouble.
And was thet really beer or sparkeling cider? She just doesn’t seem like a beer drinker, maybe Miller. I’m sure they gave her some money.
Liberals do not lie. They speak from divine intervention.
Texvet2, Loving every minute of it. McCinsane should be sending them Thank You notes every minute of every day.
I moved to Houston Already. The invasion has begun. By the way, I loved the rodeo.
What’s the issue? Obummer is claiming he’s Mr. Change, Mr. I’m Different only to be using yesterday’s kickback mechanism to fund his presidential power lunge.
How do you explain the money coming from Big Oil and General Dynamics giving Obummer money? Do you not think that many of these companies/industries have expectations that Obummer will give them a little pecker of sweetness in return for their generosity?
Please tell me you aren’t that naive…
Nail/head.
He didn’t bowl a 37 either. It was a 307 and us while folk and Fox news cheated him.
Obama. You made me look like a silly silly man on my first day. It took NPR to open my eyes.
Silly silly me.

Well, Soap, how do you really feel?
Hopey McProgress?! Classic! Too funny.
But don’t forget the middle name. Hopey Hussein McProgress (oh, except you can’t mention that).
DopeDoper. This is why Hillary is Cassandra for the 21st Century: she’s right that Obama will get killed in the general election, but nobody’s going to pay attention to her saying so.
Baksheesh Hussein Obama, pal of Antoin (Tony) Rezko.
Chardonnay, Brie and Racism. Obama must be the black John Kerry.
They won’t run my
White“Black” House,” he said.Sheesh!
I’d start looking for a new set of instructors at the Democrat Candidate Training School. The kids seem to be flunking their lessons.
Yeah, quite a stellar pair of candidates they’ve got on that side. And to think that one may even yet become our President is pretty scary…
Come on guys. To not take oil money would be divisive.
This sorta reminds me of Gary Hart, daring the press to find him with a young girl in a delicate position, so they did.
I would really like to know how George Soros funnels money into b
r
k’s campaign. To me, million of plebeians writing checks for the allowable maximum contribution, requires the “suspension of disbelief“.
So Mr.Obama, you took their money to get your campaigned started and then you deny that their interest will not be anywhere near your heart in the election or post-occurances. That makes about as much sense as….
WAIT!
I thought only republicans were so down and dirty to take money from BIG OIL!
This cant be true!
You know at first I was behind this man he had me believing he was for the common man. Less than 3 months later that has all gone down the drain! Right along with Rev. Wrongs sermons!
Did Obama forget to spike the Kool-Aid with his secret stupefying concoction? Even a few (very few mind you) of his rabid supporters are realizing what a dope he really is.
This pleases Mr. FistFight.
Financial shenanigans? In a Democratic candidate’s campaign? Say it ain’t so!
I’m torn between hoping he wins the nomination and gets spanked in November and hoping Hillary wins and gets spanked in November.
Welcome to the board Silky and thanks for the link. I tried to do a little follow up research on these 2 guys (Cavnar and Kaiser) and it seems quite possible that they are big Obama fundraisers for social reasons, rather than corporate ones.
Obama = Same ole song,

Let us hope that the country doesn’t get fooled again.
(Couldn’t help it – been listening to The Who since 1969.)
For the Obamanians (United Church Of Obama), and Obamanian Prayer….
“Our Government, who art in Washington, hallowed be thy name. Thy (socialist) kingdom come, our (socialist agenda) be done, in America, as it is in Venezuela. And give us this day, our daily bread, and everything else we need. And forgive us our trespasses, like owning guns and believing in God. And lead us into utopia, but deliver us from reality. For thine is this country, and power, and glory…for ever and ever, HEIL.”
Obamma=liar, racist, marxist, socialist, snob, class warfare warrior, America hater. No wonder the Libs love him.
I don’t have anything to do with oil or drugs.I do put oil on my aragula and I snorted a little coke.I’m not snobby, I crook my little finger when I sip vino.I don’t take money from big corporations I just have favors to pay back,I mean friends in corporations.BHO
Oh dear.
Obamachristsuperstar’s “bitter hillbilly” comment is about to get knocked of the front page.
I have a suspicion along the lines of what Silky has mentioned. The fellow in question is also a blogger on the Houston Chronicle website. He has pretty well banned me for calling him an Oil Executive, which I picked up from his own writing on March 31. He is in very deep for Obama and his blog is a daily dose of love for Obama and ridicule for Hillary and of course anything to the right of Ghandi. My question is, how is such an advocate going to be regulated under the new campaign finance laws? Can a campaign operative be regulated? Or a guy that passes himself off as a regular Joe with an especially good ear for what the campaign needs to get out?

Just askin’
Just another of “today’s politicians”, who represent, not the people or Constitution, but whoever contributes more money to their campaign fund. Lobbyists are the ones who control the Congress and other government agencies. The first thing new politicians do, once they sit down in their offices, and finish all the congratulatory calls, is to get going on reelection. That’s where lobbyists make their money.
Once again, typical liberal elitist.
It’s not a “fib”. It’s just his version of the truth.
I work for an oil company (sitting on a rig as I type this) & can proudly say that none of the $222,309 came out of my pocket.
first post! Woo hoo!
A couple of interesting articles surfaced today on Obama’s acceptance of contributions from “bundlers”. Apparentl, a bundler is a person who is allowed to skirt campaign finance laws to solicit contributions from different people and and forward them on to the campaign in a bundle. Interesting. And a practice that has to be rife with abuse.
Since they are largely outside of the campaign finance laws, there is no real way to track precisely where the bundled cash comes from. And these bundles tend to be large.
In the most recent reports, here and here, Obama received a bundle of $50,000 (visions of freezer money) from the co-founder of Code Pink, Jodie Evans. Yes, the same Jodie Evens and the same Code pink who disrupts the testimony of the military brass on Capitol Hill, is cozy with Hugo Chavez, and who funnels money to the “other side” in the Iraq War.
Nice to know Obama’s special interest contributions bans do not include bundlers and groups that are decidely anti-military.
“Crackerquiddick”
BUUUUWAAAAAAHAAAAAAAHAAAAAA.
Good one See-Dubya.
In all of Obama and Hillary’s lies, America has forgotten McCain’s lies or mistruths about his opponents in the Republican primaries.
Don’t be fooled… a vote for Obama is a vote for the best candidate money can buy! (Next to Shill-ary)
Now USA Today has focused the microscope with a story of how, while claiming he isn’t taking a dime from Washington lobbists, his fundraising team includes 38 members of law firms that were paid $138 million last year to lobby the federal government. Lawyers who are pledging to raise at least $3.5 Million for his campaign…THAT’S A LOT OF DIMES!
