Republicans funnier than the professional comedian; Video link added
Doing some multi-tasking tonight, I half-listened to coverage of the annual media lovefest-the Washington Radio and TV Correspondents’ Dinner. Comedy Central’s Mo Rocca gave a cringe-worthy performance. No, not cringe-worthy for any notable left-wing diatribes. Just cringe-worthy for its awfulness. He seemed to have just given up by the end and fizzled out. Mumbled a complaint that one of the other speakers had told one of his jokes and that was the price of going second.
By contrast, Fox News showed remarks from Dick Cheney and Mitt Romney, who were both a hoot.
Cheney recounted how he had met the Pope earlier in the day. Paraphrasing: “I’ve had quite a day. I met one Infallible Authority this morning. And I get to meet 1,000 Infallible Authorities here tonight.”
Snort.
Romney had a charming and self-deprecating top 10 list–reasons he dropped out, I think. Including (and paraphrasing again): “I want to get fat, grow a beard, and win a Nobel Prize,” “I fell down and broke my hair,” and “My wife, Ann, gave up on the campaign and all my funding dried up.”
***
Update: Allah’s got the video.
The Romney top 10 list:
No. 10: There weren’t as many Osmonds as he thought.
No. 9: Got tired of the corkscrew landings of his campaign plane while under fire
No. 8: As a lifelong hunter, I didn’t want to miss the start of varmint season.
No. 7: There wasn’t room for two Christian leaders in the presidential race
No. 6: I’d rather get fat, grow a beard and try for the Nobel prize.
No. 5: Got tired of wearing a dark suit and tie, and I wanted to kick back in a light colored suit and tie.
No. 4: When his wife realized he couldn’t win the GOP nomination, my fundraising dried up.
No. 2: I took a bad fall at a campaign rally and broke my hair.
No. 1: His campaign relied on a flawed campaign strategy that as Utah goes, so goes the nation.

You sure got that right Michelle … I had never heard of this “comedian” before … I sure could see why …
Cheney got in a few shots at the press that I thought were good as well …
Mo Rocca came to my college once and I saw him, I left wanting my money back and wondering what was I thinking going to see him.
Ya know…..
I still like Mitt.
Did Mitt make any jokes about his complete disaster of a health care plan in MA or was the plan itself a joke?
Michelle, you or AP have to find some video of that. I am a big fan of both Mitt and Richard and both have a sense of humor that is rarely appreciated.
Mookie, why choose al Sadr’s nickname unless you are a troll like him. Mitt’s plan failed AFTER the Democrats took it over
Again, the Repubs show they have class and that they can take a joke. Dims, on the other hand, seem to take it all way too seriously and take offense to any and every little thing. It is really fun to watch them auger in. More popcorn please.
Already linked.
Thanks Michelle, AP was posting it as I was typing, I linked it at my site as well. Y’all are the best team on the internet for sure. Very long time reader new poster though thanks to your latest opening, keep up the awesome work!
Darth Vader has a sense of humor! Who knew! Wish he would have had more fun at the press’s expense.
Mo Rocca surprised me at how awful he was. He usually is a funny bloke.
However Cheney and Romney were the best chaps at this dinner. Love the humor.
MSNBC was the loser of the night by all accounts.
Republicans are a LOT funnier to laugh at. Mo Rocca is washed up and they didn’t want to repeat the Colbert debacle where he mocked the entire Bush administration while standing feet away from them, so they picked him.
I was also doing some last-minute multi-tasking. That “comedian” was….well he wasn’t.
Mitt was hi-larious, and I nearly fell over when he elaborated on getting fat and such.
The Vice President was also good natured and genuinely funny, IMHO. He didn’t seem like he even had to try, while the “comedian” I think was trying too hard.
Try again.
And Mookie comes from the Mookie Jam Foundation. It’s a charity that helps people with MS.
I’m watching it on the Fox replay - egads! Who is Mo Rocca? Why is he even famous enough to get an invite to be on this stage?
He sucks! So very bad. It’s embarrassing.
And MSNBC was the definite loser in this game.
Nothing like an evening with a bad comedian to show us all how badly out of touch MSM is with the real mainstream of America.
We get our real news from Blogs.
Keith Olbermann’s stooge Mo Rocca was terrible. I don’t know why Fox News stuck with this loser. The only time he got laughs was when Rocca was making fun of MSDNC’s low ratings. It was pretty sad when he was whining about Cheney an Romney warming up the crowd before him. I wonder if the two useful idiots at Communist Central will have the stones to rip on one of their own for bombing in front of a bunch of politicians and “Journalists”.
Mookie Jam, is that like Sadr’s Jaish al Mahdi, aka JAM? Just asking as I have read your snotty comments many times. If you are helping folks with MS good for you and if you want support don’t be a snot ball like mookie al sadr
Mookie..
so you are admitting that nationalized statehood is a failure..
Cheney knew that he was up against a crowd that wasn’t going to cut him any slack… and he had the cajones not to pander or make nice. I loved his final comment–saying to the press that he had the same thing to say to them that he said to Leahy in a heated moment on the Senate floor (variously reported as “f*** off” or “go f*** yourself”). The only person who I like more than Dick is Karl… yes, the horns and the tail are retractable. Delectable.
Dick Cheney’s deadpan delivery was great.
Mo Rocca is definitely not ready for prime time.
Two of my favorite people, VP Dick Cheney and Mitt Romney prove they can dish it as well as take it, anytime.
What a duo!
There’s the 2008 ticket that should have been, but never was: Cheney/Romney!
I think the best Cheney remark was Hilary thinking she was in Bosnia but she was really hunting with him.
Cheney and Romney: current VP and next VP as far as I can hope; both did an excellent job. “Corkscrew landings under sniper fire” was a definite winner.
I’ve never particularly found Mo Rocca funny - just another of those Daily Show flunkies propped up by the few lefties lucid enough to realize that their candidates aren’t remotely likeable. Too bad for them that he really isn’t either.
I have to agree Michelle I saw the sound bits on Fox News this morning and found them to be pretty good. At least I wouldn’t have to worry about a four letter word coming out of Mitt Romney’s mouth every few seconds and I do like his top 10 list especially:
That’s right with the weather getting warmer the “whistle pigs” (miniature version of a prairie dog) are starting to come out of the ground and will be everywhere soon. The coyote’s, badgers, and birds of prey can only do so much to thin the herd of these little disease carriers each spring.
I find myself only going to Comedy Central to watch Futurama reruns since they no longer play them on “Adult Swim” on the Cartoon Network. I wonder when they will kick off the next season of “Mind of Mencia” at least he is somewhat funny picking on everyone. Other than those few shows their rampant BDS has made them unbearable to watch.
I caught a bit of Cheney’s on Fox & Friends this morning where he was telling the journalists all the great things about them he would “like to tell” them……but just couldn’t bring himself to say such nice things about them.
Thanks for the video - love the way they made fun of themselves and the opposition at the same time!
I do too and remember if he hadn’t done the honorable thing, Republicans might have been in the same position as the Democrats are now.
Mo bombed.
Watching him was excruciating.
Dick Cheney: Good lines…Needs to work on delivery.
Mitt Romney: Good enough to take over the Tonight Show.
Mo Rocca: A reject from The Gong Show.
What happened to reason #3? I guess that is another reason he dropped out - can’t count.
I never did think Mo Rocca was all that funny (occasionally amusing: yes; LOL: no), but last night he was horrible. It was so excruciating to watch him be that uncomfortable on stage, that I couldn’t keep from cringing and looking away.
Boomer, I heard somewhere (maybe here) that Carlos Mencia was going with the USO to entertain in Iraq and that was delaying his new season somewhat. I like him as well as he spreads around the comedy evenly which most never do.
I watched part of this live last night on Fox and when Cheney got up there was a woman in a green dress doing the L thing on her face. How adult. I don’t like the dims and there are a lot of republicans I don’t like either but I’m not going to be a two year old and sit there and do the “loser” sign while they’re talking. I may be thinking it but I’m not going to do it even if I had to go somewhere and had to sit through a math lecture with little girly man.
As for MO-it was pretty bad.
Cheney and Romney were funny and real, Unlike any Democrate! Cheney and Romney are Real Men.
Mitt was funny and so was Cheney. That joke about taking it easy on Hillary was great. Mitt too with his “I fell and broke my hair”. Too funny. Thanks for the Links Michelle.
my wife and I laughed our tails off watching Cheney live on H&C… then this pro comedian STUNK IT UP… i felt really bad for him in a way…
Picky, picky… Besides, it wasn’t Mitt who dropped a number from the list of ten. Actually # 6 not # 3 was left out in the transcription. “Word leaked out that nobody had bothered to search MY passport files.”
Too bad Cheney’s been so silent the last eight years. He’s smart and witty and the left hates him! Instead dopey people like Lott and Graham ending being the public face of the GOP.
Mo Rocca was the best comedian they could find? that says alot…
Cheney and Romney, one should be POTUS now, the other one, the next.
Why don’t all you lefties with nothing positive to contribute here go back home to the “deadly koz” or “huffinpoo”…your really boring here. You have every right to make your comments until you go too far, but your snide, simplistic bs doesn’t fly in the face of the truth. Go home!
McCain/Cheney
Newt/Romney
It was very painful to watch Mo Rocca.
Rush played some of this today on his radio show. Funny stuff. When you know who you are and you’re comfortable in your own skin, you can be funny like that. I loved the “Darth Vader” line and the hunting with Hillary jokes the best.
