Horror in Knoxville update: The first guilty verdict

newsom-christian-200.jpg

Many of you will recall the terrible murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, which I covered here extensively last year.

The first trial for the first suspected has ended with the first guilty verdict:

The first trial ends with the first guilty verdict in connection with the deaths of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23.

The only one of the five suspects not charged with murder, Eric DeWayne Boyd is guilty of being an accessory, according to the jury.

The jury has spoken, convicting Eric Boyd of two counts.

After five hours of deliberation, they found Boyd guilty of being an accessory after the fact, and concealing a felon, agreeing with the prosecution that he helped hide murder suspect Lemaricus Davidson from police, while failing to report his crimes.

This battle is over, but the victim’s families know the war will be long.

The victims’ families celebrate the word they’ve been waiting to hear for more than a year: Guilty.

Eric Boyd’s conviction today is the first, but family members pray it won’t be the last.

Channon Christian’s father Gary Christian says, “One down, four to go, baby. We got more to go on this one too. Eric boyd’s gonna hear from us.”

What Eric Boyd heard from the jury today will likely mean 15 years in federal prison, after sentencing August 12th.

Next year may bring four more trials, death penalty cases against the four accused murderers.

Even on this day, Chris Newsom’s mother is thinking about that.

Mary Newsom says, “They really, really tortured them beyond a normal killing, so whatever the others get, that’s what they deserve.”

Knoxville Police Sgt. Tim Snodderly says, “This is just a small part of what we’ve got going on. This is just a first step, and we’re extremely happy with the verdict we got today. We’ve got a long way to go but this is a little bit of justice for the family.”

Video of the Newsom and Christian families’ reactions here.

An interview with the jury foreman here.

What needs to be accomplished is a cultural change in the black community, benefitting most…. the black community.

This can be accomplished, but requires several cultural changes, some for all of America.

1st: Stop acting as if being a single mother is a feather to put in your cap. The media is constantly holding these women up as something to aspire to when they should be stigmatized. They should be stigmatized to a point where there is genuine anger towards the father for abandoning his responsibility.

This will help rebuild the black family, which neither slavery nor Jim Crow could destroy for generation, but hip hop accomplished in one. The black family was intact before the assassination of MLK, but has disappeared now. A robust black America is good for ALL Americans, and the family is the starting point.

2nd. Have the police continually beat the drum that they are there to protect and serve the neighborhood residents. This, along with stable two parent households should help stem the rampant crime that is the cancer for the black community.

Maybe this is just crazy talk, but I refuse to go down the liberal road of the latent racism of lowered expectations. The rampant crime (and mostly black on black) in the black community must stop for the betterment of all America.

I am from here in Knoxville. I am pretty sure that these guys will be going to Brushy Mountain Penetentiary. So to answer your question “What is the method of ‘death’ in Tennessee?” I would say for these guys it will be Death by White Inmates. And believe me, they don’t want to escape Brushy Mountain either. It is a straight-up mountain climb out of three sides of this prison, and if you get past the guards and make it over the hill somehow, that is where the rednecks from Anderson, Scott and Union counties pick up the slack.

In the Wikepedia story these statements are made:

There is absolutely no proof of a hate crime,” said John Gill, special counsel to Knox County District Atty. Randy Nichols. “We know from our investigation that the people charged in this case were friends with white people, socialized with white people, dated white people.”

    Additionally, this is said:

“The national news media was initially criticized by some for not giving the crime adequate coverage because the victims were white, and the suspects black, but some commentators have explained that “as bad as this crime is, the apparent absence of any interest group involvement or any other ‘angle’ might also explain the lack of coverage.”

Can’t imagine what news, race hustlers, etc would have done if this had been white folks (who were friends of black people, socialized with black people, and dated black people) commiting the same crime against black people.

Yes, I am white; however, I am married to a black woman.

That has to be a rhetorical question, right? These (insert the epithet of your choice here) are products of the ME generation, the byproducts of entitlement, no accountability, victim mentality(you can’t blame me – I’m a victim – it’s all society’s fault!) and, in a way, it IS society’s fault – the society that makes excuses for people(and I almost don’t want to call them people) like these thugs. “Poor dears, it really isn’t their fault, you know. We need to give them more money so they don’t have to work. After all, they don’t have 62″ TVs. We have to provide them housing, don’t give them a hard time in school” etc. etc. etc. And on and on, ad nauseum.

The friends and parents of these monsters will be front and center in their trials, telling everybody what good, misunderstood people they are, and that they could never have done this. They are being falsely accused. And the MSM, whatever there may be of it that deigns to cover future trials, will lap it up to the point almost of accusing the victims of causing their own torture, mutilation and death.

What they don’t understand is that they will have to stand trial in a higher court someday, and there won’t be any slick defense lawyer to help them play the racist or victim cards.

I suspect it is because Boyd is only charged as being an accessory after the fact and the Prosecutors do not want to pollute the jury pool. It is also clear that Boyd was in fact an accessory to the crime of kidnapping (Channon), something I had not read about. But the evidence there was too circumstantial.

Stories about the carjacking/rape/murder of this couple have been all over the news here in East Tennessee since it happened. How could you miss it?

I’ve seen it on television, heard it on radio and read it in print here a lot.

In what part of East Tennessee do you live, dldeskins?

That being said, I hope these animals on trial are put down, and in a very public and painful manner.

The day these young people were abducted was the day their parents were sentenced to a lifetime of heartache. Every second, minute, hour, day, week, month and year the parent’s loss will never be far from their thoughts and agony at learning details of their deaths. Unfortunately, for parents and loved ones, they are not eligible for a retrial, plea bargain, early out for good behavior or the whim of a governor to stay the execution.

If they receive the death sentence won’t they be isolated and removed from the general prison population? They’ll sit there for 20 yrs. in relative comfort with every legal challenge at their disposal. Give them a life sentence and let the “boys” in the yard have a go at them. Or, send them to Texas. Doesn’t take nearly so long here to clean off the needle.

You ask “who raised these people?” No human being I can think of could have raised these animals. Not to be confused with sub-humans, these are specimens that belong in the wild.

If you don’t like the local news broadcasts, give WNOX a try. I rarely listen to music on my radio. I’m more of a newstalk junkie and find that WNOX gives me my fix. They had quite a bit of coverage on this, including an immediate update on the verdict yesterday, when it was read by the jury foreman.

There is a good chance that they could/would be placed into protective custody, if they aren’t put on deathrow. The legal liability of a prison putting them in general population knowing that someone may exact some vigilante justice is too great to prison official to take a chance.

It was the same way with child molesters, when I worked in the system. I had to make sure they were placed in protective custody units, even if they didn’t want to be there, because they would be killed in general population. As tempting as it was, if I had not made sure they were placed in protective custody, I would have been a party in any lawsuit by the family or other party that would file from their death or injury.

Compare this case to the one in West Virginia, in which four white people, including a mother and son, were accused of torturing a black woman. That one got plenty of attention. In that case the victim survived, and while what was done to her was awful, it wasn’t one-tenth as bad as what happened to these poor kids. But it fit the media template of toothless hillbillies victimizing the poor African-American girl. Nobody wants to here it when it’s the other way around and exponentially worse.

And another thing: protection of the law only extends to citizens who have human rights; when you murder someone, you forfeit your rights, especially your right to life. Human rights are absolute and apply to all people; attempting to abrogate another’s rights ABSOLUTELY means that you do not uphold those rights, which necessarily means that you do not hold yourself to have those rights. The only problem I have with doing horrible things to people like these murdering, raping, torturing beasts is that I’m unsure of the stability or morality of someone who would carry out any truly heinous punishment. I have no problem feeding these insects to Hannibal Lector; it’s just that Hannibal doesn’t belong in society either. So, a tall oak tree a strong short rope is what I call for.

I disagee. I think death is much better. While it’s true that some may suffer in prison, monsters such as these often have their own prison sub-culture where they can at times be better off than they were on the street. If, and this is a big “if” prison was sure to make them suffer,(big time), OK, but death is a sure thing, no more problems from these idiots, no chance of escape, no in prison crimes……no retrials, no Hollywood celibrities yelling for their release, death is the way to go here IMO.
