The MSM poor taste award of the week
It’s the one war the Left and the media do want to win: The “war on global warming.”
And they’ll appropriate and trivialize any real war imagery they please in pursuit of eco-propaganda–good taste and respect for veterans be damned!

Flashback: Here’s a proper adaptation of Iwo Jiwa imagery to make a salient editorial point that honors the Iwo Jima legacy:

The sky is falling.
WTF? I refuse to read this rag/mag anyway. Bastards.
I would never read the worthless Time rag, let alone by one.
I hate to think of what global warming’s going to do my arugula crop.
Time is still in print?
if every doctor and dentist office stop subscribing to ‘TIME’, their circulation will drop by half..
Win the war on global warming?
allow open debate about it
and jail Al Gore… or is that extremism?
JHSII,
You beat me to it.
Can you imagine world war II being pursued with the same domestic opposition as today’s war on terror? I wonder how things might have gone the past five years sans the traitorous NY Times and elite media or groups like codepinko and moron.org.
I guess AGW is a foregone conclusion as Bush has capitulated on it and McCain is down with the Goracle. Funny how Senate voted against Kyoto 95-zip and Clinton/Gore did nada in eight years with it. Wonder how many millions Mr. Nobel Peace Prize/Savior of our planet has made on the carbon credits boondoggle since leaving office?
I guess Michael Crichton’s takedown of AGW and the Politically Incorrect Guide to Science are just so much background noise.
Pity Salzburger, Cronkite and Rather were not around in WWII to relentlessly denigrate and obstruct the war effort or perhaps FDR would have thrown their worthless asses in prison? Bush does nothing against the traitors. The Kossacks want any Obama detractors in media to lose their broadcast licenses. What’s wrong with this picture?
So regardless of which of the troika of bozos is elected we will prostate ourselves to the Greens and Euroweenies, lowering American living standards? Maybe we can cut out the middleman and just choose algore as potus? Let’s open those borders, legalize the aliens and make all of them new dem voters also. Only makes sense that 40% of population that pays no income taxes would want even more income redistribution.
I just got both of my Hot Rods out of winter storage. Man, do they have a HUGE carbon footprint. We have more weed hugging yuppies moving over here from Seattle now. Boy do we get some cold as ice looks
My dad used to buy a Time subscription for me as a Christmas gift. I finally had to say “Dad, please, don’t do that any more. I can’t stand the political bent of the magazine.”
Every week, that magazine would arrive, and I made it a point to read it, to see how the “other side” views things. It was so much about the “entitlement society”, I’d eventually thrown the magazine down in disgust.
Totally irrelevant article/cover in a totally irrelevant magazine.
I hate to admit it, but my father gets this rag and every so often they give him the opportunity to give a free subscription to someone else. This year he offered it to me. I said “no thanks.”
The IQ of everyone who has this POS in the house automatically drops 30 points; 60 points if they actually read anything in it.
This going green and global warming crap has got to stop. It’s not going to help the economy and it’s starving people worldwide. I can only hope that the current food shortage situation (as terrible as it is) can finally get people off the stop global warming craze. We’re saving the Earth by killing the world.
Here in the South Puget Sound we the Olympian, (The Daily Zero). The Times small pages are totally inadequate to cover the bottom of the litter box.
This act of disrespect to the USMC and the veterans that went through the living hell of Iwo Jima has my blood boiling and jaw clenched this morning. Thanks for sharing this latest outrage by the MSM in their pursuit of a yet to be proven scientific theory as the hottest and hip new religion on the planet. I guess TIME magazine still can’t understand why its circulation continues to go down the drain.
I stopped buy and reading TIME years ago for reasons just like this.
gollumclone #8, Walter Cronkite was around in WWII. He served with the troops in WWII as war correspondent.
My dad landed on Iwo Jima on his 18th birthday. If he were alive today, he would be fuming. As it is now, I may have to check to see if he turned over in his grave.
If these demagogues want to do something to fix a make-believe problem they should quit printing on paper and move to the web. Same with the NYT and other papers. The printing and distribution of these papers and mags creates a carbon footprint worthy of

Another Ice Age?
Monday, Jun. 24, 1974
Time Magazine GFY
STENGEL, TIME EDITOR:
Surely you’ve noticed how no debate is complete without national service. The arrogance is colossal.
#16,that was WW2.Now old uncle Wally is 100% in the tank with the Libs.Ever watch PBS lately? He sold out a long time ago.
Mrs. Malkin,
I don’t see how it’s any more tasteless than when auto-parts stores slap old glory all over the place to sell there cheesy wares.
Using the Iwo Jima photo in a cartoon to support a conservative cause is patriotic. Using it to support a liberal cause is unpatriotic.
Bush standing in front of a flag is patriotic. Obama standing in front of a flag is an affront to the flag.
Pat Robertson said God sent storms and 9/11 attackers to punish America for tolerating Gays is patriotic. #1 Republican Abe Lincoln saying God sent the Civil War to punish America for the sin of slavery (it’s engraved in stone in Washington), that’s OK. But heaven forbid Jeremiah Wright should say something similar! (By the way, you should watch the whole tape, not just the 5 second clip, to see what Wright actually was saying.)
Finally, a military conflict that peace activists can love!
No one is defending Pat Robertson, numbnuts.
Guess the folks at TIME ignored all of the CO detectors going off around the office this week.
I know where I’d like to put that tree, dagummit!
Why is every celebrated cause in America these days equivalent to war? I am getting sick of the over-use of the term. It’s almost as bad as people using “freaking” as a substitute for the four-letter F-bomb.
Enough already. Find a different euphemism.
A war is a series of combats where soldiers die on behalf of nations. It is not a “cause.” Neither is it a substitute for a political agenda.
lgm confirms it.. ‘Global warming’ is a liberal cause.. not scientific fact..
May we infer that “The War on Global Warming” is the new opium of the masses?
No, it’s not. It’s someone arrogantly presuming to know the mind of God. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone here say or imply such a thing. You made it up because it fits the liberal narrative of conservatives as self-rightous bigots.
Abe Lincoln didn’t damn America. He helped save it.
Yeah, I’m sure you did. /sarc
Negative. It has to do with WHAT it is used for. The Iwo Jima photo has nothing to do with the global warming debate, and to call it a “war”?
Negative. If Bush refused to wear the pin, or refused to put his hand over his heart and say the Pledge, it would be newsworthy. If Obama really did stand in front of the flag, and really meant it, there’s no issue with that.
Pat Robertson is a nutjob, and besides, that has nothing to do with the current discussion. I haven’t been here long, but I have been here long enough to sniff out trolls.
AC, the problem is we’re going to really see war close up before long. If things don’t change(and I don’t hold out much hope of that happening), then there will be a war not only in this country, but world-wide that will put the lie to the “we all just need to get along” crowd, and the pervasive socialism of the left.
I am appalled!!!
By one action those sorry excuses for living material at that tabloid rag have managed to insult the flag, the greatest generation, the United States Marine Corps, and the US military in general.
My Dad fought in WWII. I served in combat in Vietnam, with senior NCO’s and Officers who had been on Iwo Jima. I knew these men, and was in awe of them! These men had more courage, integrity, morality, intelligence, and strength of character in one cell than those useful idiots at Time Magazine have in their collective slimy, effete bodies.
Equating the flag raising on Iwo with the global hoax of global warming is stupid, insulting tour flag and our nation, and beyond belief!!
As a veteran of OIF I and III, this magazine cover is very offensive to me. Seeing the accomplishments of WWII veterans trivialized in this matter is just shameful. If you haven’t yet, please send an e-mail to the editors of Time (letters@time.com).
lol, you dont need a whiffer like lassie to sniff out lgm.
Don’t feed the troll. lgm is an idiot and he is thread jacking. Don’t give him the satisfaction.
I must admit, we humans have causeed GW and it is so bad, it is melting the ice caps on Mars as well.
/sarc off
Seriously (as if), google “sunspots”, learn and be free!
Contrary to your twisted interpretation, the Time cover represents Iwo Jima in a positive way. Those soldiers were saving the US from military aggression. Now we have people trying to save the planet from global warming. Then we had Chamberlain telling us our enemies were not a threat. Now we have the “see nothing but evil” right telling us global warming is not a threat.
(It’s fun to turn wingnut analogies against wingnuts.)
There’s a new picture of our favorite troll out now - all dressed in his “eco-friendly” skirt.
Yikes. Let me explain this.
1. WWII and Iwo Jima were wars. Against a great evil and threat to world peace.
The war on terror is also a war against evil (unless you think radical Islam is a peaceful, tolerant, loving religion).
Imagine if today’s Democrats were in charge during WWII. DEFEAT. SURRENDER. Iwo Jima wouldn’t have happened, most of Europe would be speaking German, and the entire history of the latter half of the 20th century would be totally different.
The difference with the Time cover is there still is a healthy amount of speculation regarding
global warmingwait, it’s global climate change now…since temperatures have cooled (Has anyone asked Gore if the Earth’s fever has broken?). It’s not a war, and it certainly isn’t as immediate a threat to us as, say, terrorists with planes or nuclear weapons and a deep hatred of pretty much everything you and I hold dear (read: FREEDOM).2. Bush has never denegrated the flag the way Obama has. What did Barack say about it? He wasn’t going to wear a pin because he was ashamed of America? There’s that photo of him not reciting the pledge, the absence of flags (early in his campaign). When - and only when - Obama realized his anti-flag (anti-American) senitment was not winning him favors, flags popped up like dandelions in spring.
See the difference?
Also, I don’t hear any of Bush’s supporters spouting the line that “war has never solved anything” and “no war for any reason” and “no war was ever justified” - lines anti-war liberals have used and things they believe. Which means, if they’re honest and consistent, they think even WWII was an unjustified war and the soldiers that served were murderers, butchers, baby-killers (pick your euphemism).
I understand you think conservatives are unintelligent rubes, but we are able to discern the connotation behind the use of an image appropriately and inappropriately.
Just because it doesn’t happen to fit your worldview doesn’t make it wrong.
global warming is a myth..
little girly man
Low gray matter..
be seeing you on TV with Chris Hanson..
Because it isn’t a threat. Just because you and Al Gore stick your fingers in your ears and sing “La, la, la I can’t hear you!” whenever scientists or meteorologists question global warming doesn’t mean there isn’t dissent. Which I thought was “patriotic”…guess not, if it dissents against liberal causes, or their religion (
global warmingsorry, global cimate change). And it’s highly enjoyable to see lefties reaffirm the notion they’re about as mature as kindergarteners.
I live in the D-FW area. You can’t turn on television or radio any more, without being bombarded by the “Go Green and Save the Planet” nonsense. These libs really think Earth is on its’ last legs.
And darnit, if they have to kill off every human to save the planet, well by golly….they’ll do it.
Aren’t you late for pottery class?
Oh, for goodness sake. Don’t feed him. If he was a shark, you would not dangle you leg in the water.
He is just trying to get unnder your skin by telling lies.
I know an Iwo veteran. Proud old Marine. Some of my other Marine buddies and I make it a point to check up on him from time to time.
Somehow or another, I can’t imagine he can see any similarities in what he witnessed, and what Time uses to draw attention to its pet cause.
“Climate Change”
And the Moon is made of Cheese.
The only thing going “green” is Al Gore’s depostis to the his bank account.
Debating issues with a barking moonbat is like trying to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time, annoys the pig, and you end up covered in pig dung.
Sadly, there are probably a significant number of school-aged children who would look at this picture and not understand the reference in the slightest.
The only agenda of the global warming/ climate change advocates is to “level the playing field” by hobbling the U.S. economy. That would make it harder for the U.S. politically and strategically to project power. There by, keeping us arrogant and selfish Americans from “interfering” where we shouldn’t and using more than our share. Nothing more. When I think of hobbling. I think of the Kathy Bates character in Stephen Kings “Misery” breaking the ankles of the James Caan character with a sledge hammer. Wake up Mr. McCain!
With all of our technology, man cannot predict, control or prevent tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, droughts, earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons. Are these not climate changers also?
You global warming zealots have to get one thing straight:
The argument is not about “Global Warming”.
Its about ANTHROPOGENIC Global Warming. In other words, human-caused global warming.
You make an egregious error in logic, conflating two separate issues.
The only question that matters is “Are humans causing global warming”. Because if we are not then it doesn’t matter what we do, and efforts to the contrary are wasted.
Unfortunately for the enviros, hard scientific evidence for humans causing “global warming” is inconclusive, at best.
And THAT is where you LOSE your argument.
IF Global Warming Exists and is not significantly influenced or caused by Man, then nothing we can do will significantly influence things. All the “Green” crap is jsut that: crap.
To make the case for this sort of thing, you must
a) Conclusively Prove Global Warming Exists (still doubt about that given recent climatological data, and science regarding solar activity),
AND
b) PROVE conclusively that Global Warming is caused by Humans (very little proof of that).
And remember - Consensus is NOT Proof. Consensus amongst theologians is that God Exists. Yet that is not accepted ass proof. Neither is “consensus” amongst scientists, many of whom are NOT climatologists.
And furthermore, the so-called consensus is falling apart, and may no longer exist amongst real scientists, including the man who founded the theory of GW now saying it was wrong.
Recent evidence indicates that SOLAR cycles are the primary controlling variable in climate change, so even if Global Warming exists, it is NOT caused by Humans. So you LOSE!
There is NOTHING we can do to increase or lessen the impact of whatever climate changes the solar activity is driving, be it a new “little ice age” (like 1300-1700AD) or a new “middle ages warm period”. (800-1200AD)
So GIVE IT UP Enviros - your hoax has been revealed to be the lie that it is, and a collectivist power play against individualism and capitalism - and freedom.
STOP your lying.
lgm said:
It’s not surprising that the liberals get bitter, they cling to trees or hybrids or antipathy to people who aren’t born or anti-Christian sentiment or anti-American sentiment. . .
I’ve tried to keep my perspective on this light, because I believe the best weapon against these moonbats is humor. I don’t know of too many leftists that have much sense at all, let alone a sense of humor.
However, I have a serious problem with anybody – ANYBODY – who believes that
This from someone who has absolutely no idea of what war really is.
Until lgm presents us with his verified DD-214, and proof that he’s served in the military(makes no difference what branch) and done time in Iraq or Afghanistan, his comments on war are absolutely without foundation. They are based on the peanut farmer’s Moral Equivalent Of War(one of my all-time favorite acronyms, which sums it up in a nutshell, MEOW) campaign.
As far as I’m concerned, lgm is one of the ugly things – the person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight. The ecology will take care of itself, thank you. It doesn’t need man’s puny intervention. The Goracle will be shown to be one of the world’s greatest con men, trying to prove that it’s possible to “fool all of the people all of the time.”
There is a Creator, and He designed the world to exist in spite of our best efforts to harm it.
If we don’t do something now, the environmental changes will sadly to say,
Happen Anyway. So lets not fool ourselves. The world gets hot. Cold. Mild. Global Warming. They talk about the seas rising and swallowing up all the Capitalist Monies, well heres a fun fact,
So with facts it seems global warming is nothing but Hot Air.
Sadly, there are too many adults who don’t either…. many of them are the spoiled children of the generation who produced the men that fought on Iwo Jima!
You hear the one about the magazine that couldn’t sell copy? Quarter after quarter the losses mounted, but nobody had any idea why.
It CERTAINLY wasn’t their content or their ethics. Had to be a problem with the readers being too bitter, or something…
It’s a hilarious joke. You should google it.
cpodug,
I have never served but I really take issue with:
Time cover represents Iwo Jima in a positive way. Those soldiers were saving the US from military aggression.
HEH! Those soldiers were part of the aggression and held onto a small island that Japan needed to continue their aggression. Those were brave heroes!
But that is his point, to say something so off the wall as to take this thread where it was never intended to go.
What is even more ironic (sickening?) about Cronkite is that he was a war correspondent who actually flew along with B17 bomber crews over Europe. He was as likely to be shot down and killed or captured as the airmen themselves. Since he was a reporter and not a true serviceman that would have made him a spy by Nazi standards, and as such subject to immediate execution without trial. So you’d think he would have a better appreciation of our servicepersons than any of the current limp-wristed “war correspondants” who populate cable news (Gerry comes to mind) and report from 4-star hotels in Iraq. Sadly, since the Vietnam War he has demonstrated nothing but contempt for the American Military.
Where I grew up in rural Kansas, my family could only receive CBS on the old B&W TV, so the CBS Evening News was the primary source of news for us. I often thought that if Walt told us the sky was green, we’d believe it. Not any more. I now see him as a bitter old man, who long ago traded his respectabilty for leftwing moonbattery.
I’m one has served in our Marine Corps and one who has known many former Marines who fought on Iwo Jima, who found Times cover offensive.
Marshall Russ, I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of the objective of global climate change. In my opinion, the true objective is to create a crisis in order to rally the “people” behind a fascist government. Much like other issues blown out of proportion to the “crisis” level in order to limit the freedoms of individuals and bolster the powers of government. Cite, for example, the “energy efficient light bulb” that will soon replace / outlaw the ordinary light bulbs currently in use. Government run amok at the expense of the individual.
Sweet. Just stick the cars out in the driveway and rev ‘em up a few times while the hippies are watching.
/paroxysms guaranteed.
Agreed. I find that equally tasteless and make it a point to take my dollars somewhere else if I see something like that.
Forgive me, because there is no rational reason for what I feel and am about to say here…….. I am offended, angry and sad. To the lgms and others….. I ‘ll fight for you but don’t ever ask me to….. I’ll do it because I wish to and can. Sorry for the rant.
That isn’t just TIME anymore. Seems the Old Grey Lady’s having a few problems of her own. Shocking, I know.
Oh, and guess whose fault it is? The economy! And whose fault is the economy? BOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!!
/moonbat
Once again, leftists with no ability to properly assess risk or priorities. After millions of lives are ruined they will just blissfully move on to the next nutty Chicken Little crisis selected by their eco-gods.
My father was off-shore at the age of 18 loading .50s to stop the Japanese from committing suicide against his ship from the island of Iwo Jima when we invaded it; my uncle on my mothers side was a 17 year old Marine who actually landed to fight on it…and the two of them also went to help take Okinawa so these pricks in the MSM could lampoon their sacrifice for a cause that doesn’t exist-global warming.
Bastards doesn’t begin to describe Time/Newsweek
He who dies with with the biggest carbon footprint wins!
As the daughter of a retired Marine officer, wife of a former Marine, and a former Marine myself, I find Time’s misuse of the Iwo Jima image lacking in ANY appeal. Having the privilege of knowing a few Iwo Jima survivors, I can only imagine their views of Time’s bastardization of an iconic moment in American history.
Semper Fi’

MNUSMCDavid,
I’ll watch your back!
Semper Fi and, Thanks!
OMSB
Semper Fi and I got yours as well. Now since it’s Friday and I’m P.O’d, where’s the pogey bait and the whiskey?
Fascism always springs from the Left. Atlas Shrugged, indeed.
LIBERTY CALL!
I admit, I do read Time rather regularly. I like to study all sides of the spectrum. Unfortunately, Time is biased… incredibly so. I remember there was this scientist who disagreed with Al Gore and his fan club. Time did a small blurb about it I bet about 95% of people didn’t read…
As a soon to be retired Army Officer I too take offense to the cover of that magazine. For those who cannot understand why, lgm, it is for you to ponder for all of eternity.
One of the biggest under(if at all)-reported stories about the green movement is the effect of the ethanol mandates on food prices. (of course, this is not news to anybody here). It has caused Pilgrims Pride (for one) to close numerous chicken farms because the exploding price of feed grain has raised the price of chicken, resulting in a lower demand. This, of course, means that many people are now out of work.
Of course, the Left will see this as a consumer travesty akin to the rising price of gasoline. Before you know it, we’ll be seeing Congressional Committee investigations. Dirty Harry will be hauling Bo Pilgrim himself (assuming he’s still around) in front of a committee where Bo will be savagely interrogated before the cameras. There will be cries of outrage, and demands for windfall profit taxes on the food producers of the country.
Anybody think I’m exaggerating?
Given the shift in demographics caused by illegal immigration I suspect that if American kids recognize the term “Iwo Jima”, they will increasingly pronounce it the way substitute Spanish teacher Peggy Hill does, as “Iwo Hima.”
Also it’s ironic that the Time image suggests that we need to plant trees to take up the “extra” CO2. Since CO2 is plant food, more CO2 in the air aids plant growth. “Gaia” will take care of that all by herself.
I thought it was SUV’s and gas motored lawn mowers that does it. My telescope isn’t quite powerful enough. Can someone take a snap of the ones on Mars and post it please? </sarc>
Anyone want to bet that the staff at the beleaguered New York Times will bitterly retreat to their Marx, their lattes, their hybrids, and their distrust of “typical Americans”?
POGEY BAIT! LOL!!
Haven’t heard/thought of that espression for years (and years, and years…)
Works for me!
Upon further reflection, a little Jack Black will go down nice on a Friday.
Ways the Socialists “trim” the world population (their real goal).
1. legalize abortion (more abortions than births).
2. ban DDT (causing Malaria to run rampant).
3. make CO2 a polutants, thus allowing them to shut off heat and lower energy supply.
4. eliminate the construction of Nuclear Power plants (again lower energy supply).
5. don’t allow offshore drilling, drilling near industrial areas and drilling in remote areas (again lower energy supply)
6. incourage food (especially corn) to be used as fuel, leading to world wide food shortages.
The war is the Socialists against the World Population.
lgm = Little Green Man.
He’s here from Mars and he’s mad as hell about us causing so much global warming that it’s melting his homeworld’s icecaps.
Geez, what a tool.
That will no doubt be Al Gore.
It is fairly obvious that lgm (aka the troll) has never worn the uniform of my beloved Marine Corps. Otherwise he would understand that this should have never been used as a statement in any way shape or form. I will not read this rag again (even if it is the only thing left in the Dr’s office)
Semper Fi
lgm: Here is an example how you have been brainwashed. The planet is not in any danger because of global warming. The planet has survived a few billion years under far more severe conditions that anything our carbon footprints can create. The planet is in no need of saving as it is in absolutely no danger. Even when the giant meteor hit off of Mexico, killing all the dinosaurs, the planet adjusted and survived.
Time for you to start thinking for yourself.
There, I’ve fixed that for you. Unfortunately for the liberal kool-aid drinking folks at Time magazine, I’m sure the article has no opposing views to alleged global warming.
Hmmm…forecast this weekend in CA where I live…temps 10 degrees cooler than normal. Please bring some of this warming my way, since it’s only going to be a high of 37 here.
Anybody else care to explain to lgm why Greenland is so named? I’m a new poster, and want to heed the instructions regarding troll sustenence.
This from the Senate Floor Statement by Senator Inhofe R-OK.
Jan 4th 2005:
CONCLUSION
What I have outlined today won’t appear in the New York Times. Instead you’ll read much about “consensus” and Kyoto and hand wringing by its editorial writers that unrestricted carbon dioxide emissions from the United States are harming the planet. You’ll read nothing, of course, about how Kyoto-like policies harm Americans, especially the poor and minorities, causing higher energy prices, reduced economic growth, and fewer jobs. After all, that is the real purpose behind Kyoto, as Margot Wallstrom, the EU’s environment minister, said in a revealing moment of candor. To her, Kyoto is about “leveling the playing field” for businesses worldwide-in other words, we can’t compete, so let’s use a feel-good treaty, based on shoddy science, fear, and alarmism, and which will have no perceptible impact on the environment (Chart #6), to restrict America’s economic growth and prosperity. Unfortunately for Ms. Wallstrom and Kyoto’s staunchest advocates, America was wise to the scheme, and it has rejected Kyoto and similar policies convincingly. Whatever Kyoto is about-to some, such as French President Jacques Chirac, it’s about forming “an authentic global governance”-it’s the wrong policy and it won’t work, as many participants in Buenos Aires grudgingly conceded.
Despite the bias, omissions, and distortions by the media and extremist groups, the real story about global warming is being told, and, judging by the welcome success of Michael Crichton’s “State of Fear,” it’s now being told to the American public.
I wrote them a letter (letters@time.com) to express how outraged I am with them. It was VERY hard to keep it respectful.
The Iwo vets DIED and suffered a lot of pain to defend the United States. The most pain these libs get is a lighter walled to purchase their carbon offsets to watch a giant plasma TV. Same in Time. I hope their circulation continues to fall and they go under.
Cue the troll with some obscure web link to refute this post in
5…4…3…
As noted earlier, if something “doesn’t appear in the NY Times” there’s a good chance that the real reason is that the NYT went out of business while nobody noticed.
Talk about a dead man walking…
What are the NYC moonbats going to do without their Sunday Times? Seriously.
It is just so delicious to watch them taking a beating by the same free market that they so desperately try to kill. Poetic.
The MSM poor taste award of
the weeka lifetime. At least in my over half century lifetime Any comment on this has to use the words, vulgar, reprehensible, disgusting and all the words I can’t say in polite company.
Psst, just an observation . I noted a number of Marines in this thread. Couldn’t we just secure this perimeter and claymore the trolls?…. I mean we only need four of us.. Oh and grill some steaks and beans over little C-4 balls and have a great time….lol. Make that carbon footprint huge!
Hey - don’t forget us squids - we can have a BBQ on the fantail!
MNUSMCDavid#88
Semper Fi David. Make a mushroom cloud sized one!!
I just finished reading Richard Newcomb’s classic book “Iwo Jima” and knowing about the heroism of the men who climbed Mount Saribachi and then seeing Time Magazine liken the ecology issue to those brave men is truly sickening. Those men were warriors not Berkeley wimps. For Time to compare a bunch of flower power creampuffs to the heroes of Iwo Jima is sickening.
But I am not surprised at Time Magazine. This was the magazine that had a decades long obsession with destroying Ariel Sharon. Sharon represented everything that Time Magazine hated. He was an Israeli general who didn’t apologize for being a tough Israeli. Time claimed that there was a secret report proving that Sharon was a murderer. Eventually Time admitted that its reporters had concocted the whole thing.
CPO
Forget squids, never…. pull up a rock and light the cigar…. pollute that sky!
When there are hundreds of million cars spewing fumes into the sky, when the Brazilians have cut down a large percentage of the Amazon rain forest, when China pours megatons of soot into the air from burning coal -
I don’t need a scientist to tell me that it MUST be affecting the atmosphere and climate in some way.
So the problem is that corrupt politicians have taken over the issue as theirs.
To hell with them. This is the same situation that has allowed Sharpton/Jackson/Farrakhan and the despicable CAIR to have emerged as self-appointed representives to the media for real constituencies, with genuine needs. We would be much better served if the lazy/underfunded media could look past the aggressive hacks who are allowed to jump out in front of the issue every time.
There is a genuine POLLUTION problem - and it’s being neglected because the wrong people are in front of the cameras.
This old scout can’t be called an environmentalist anymore - but I’m proud to be a Conservationist.
I’m making light of things , but the point is this; I’ll not let Soros sotted Gore engorged leftists and eco snobs tear down the Republic. It’s not going to happen. Soros and the GW crowd have to be engaged and defeated.
Old Scout..
Cutting down the rainforest is justified because they are turning that land into farmfield for ethanol corn crops..
First, my greetings to JDinTX, whose father landed on Iwo. No words for how incredible that is. Your father was a man’s man.
Second, I’ve been mad as hell about environmentalism since the idiots came after the logging industry two decades or more ago. Now, climate change…don’t get me started.
You will hear this from me first. The future of the WWII legacy (my father’s) is being laid out. The liberal s will morph, change and pervert our sacred history, especially the WW II narrative, to fit their own world view. It will begin with down-sizing the importance of our national efforts to defeat fascism in that war. (WTF is “war against ‘military aggression’ “?)
I only hoped this evil historical buffoonery would wait until the Greatest Generation had passed from the scene. Now, they are jumping the gun. Guess what? This generation whose fathers fought the war are still here. And we remember…
Global warming is a joke, and we are laughing at you people that believe in it.
Yup, they are highly motivated and financed and they aren’t going away. The out come of this war is crucial. We must win.
KCK - kinda like they did to my generation in Vietnam. When they saw that was successful, they are now moving back in history. Never again!
take a look at this lil gem…
climate tax
Not enough credit can be given the WWII soldiers. My grandfather tried to enlist right after Pearl Harbor, but was classified 4F (that means unsuitable, for a host of reasons. In my grandfather’s case, bad hearing). In that day and time, being 4F was humiliating almost beyond belief. In fact, many young men so classified committed suicide rather than live with being 4F. Can you magine today’s generation of young people having that sense of obligation to duty to their country? My grandfather eventually worked for the sante Fe railroad, and felt he was helping the war effort that way, but quietly carried the shame of being 4F to the end of his life.
sante Fe = Santa Fe
Marshall Russ, please do not get me wrong. I see this objective as a short term ploy; however, I see a much darker, longer range objective in the global warming crisis. In the 60’s, groups hijacked the civil rights movement and turned it into a “crisis” and through rioting, intimidation, and other fascist measures gained control of our universities and much of our government. The result was JFK followed by an even more sinister LBJ (pushing FDR’s New Deal even further down our throats) in the white house and a shift to the left by ALL politicians (exhibit the RINOs that we have today who came of age during the 60s). Only the late, great Reagan was able to steer the party back on a conservative course. I believe that global climate change is being viewed as the next “crisis” that will enable a Liberal president to gain control of the white house and exercise fascist tactics at all levels of government.
In short, I am not “disagreeing” with you; simply trying to articulate that this is even a much bigger problem if left unchecked.
I’m with you on that, brother!
Sorry, I left out that many, many of our young people do indeed share the same sense of duty to country. This is evidenced by the record enlistments in our volunteer military. Sadly, most of the left does not share this commitment, which is the one of the points I should have made.
And we all now how much the Republican candidate has done for veterans.
***vomit***
I teach an AP US History course, and all of my students were required to read “Flags of our Fathers.” If you haven’t read it, it’s a great book - I highly recommend it.
I showed my students the photograph of the cover, and they were enraged.
I read them lgm’s ridiculous comment:
Out of the mouths of babes:
One of my 17-year-old kids said, “Well, we waited two years before we entered the war, and only then because we were attacked on our own soil. And if you want to talk about military aggression, let’s talk about how Ralph Ignatowski (one of the Marines in the book) was tortured on Iwo.”
Another student said, “I think if the people in Nanking could choose American soldiers or Japanese ones, they’d want us every day of the week.”
The cover of this dead tree magazine offends me. My Marine Corps uniform should not be disrespected in this manner. How dare they make us out to be a bunch of tree huggers! Only 3 of those Marines survived to tell their story. In my opinion, Time Magazine wants to trivialize the sacrifices of these brave men.
Actually, the Mt. Suribachi comparison makes perfect sense to a leftist brain. Like lgm illustrates with his comments, they really can’t understand why anyone would object to trivializing and mocking one of the defining moments of our nation’s military heritage.
Ann Coulter provided the Rosetta Stone allowing us to understand how leftists comprehend “war” when she wrote:
“We finally give liberals a war on ‘fundamentalism,’ and they won’t fight. They would, but it’d put them on the same side as the United States.”
Leftists *can* be mobilized for Total War, but only as long as the “enemy” is either:
(1) unrelated to any actual military threat to America or its national interest, or
(2) their domestic political and cultural opposition.
Time’s perversion of the Marines’ accomplishment and sacrifice on Iwo Jima fits perfectly with the criteria above. After all, “Climate Change” is easy to declare “war” on, because it doesn’t shoot back (and as a bonus, you don’t have to risk your standing in “world opinion” by “standing up” to it).
By waging war on “Climate Change,” can get the same sense of pride as those who have participated in a real Great Crusade, without having to actually do anything - except call upon others to give up their way of life (remember, liberals believe that there is no sacrifice too great to call upon others to make).
The three hallmarks of leftist thinking are that it’s born of ignorance, steeped in wishful thinking, and focused on irrelevancy. Accordingly, I’m certain that from a leftist perspective whoever drew up that cartoon thought he or she was being brilliantly clever:
- Fighting imaginary enemies instead of real ones: check.
- Belittling the real achievements of the military: check.
- Feeling morally superior without having to do anything to merit it: check.
- Communicating in terms of emotional symbols instead of logic or evidence: check.
So I’ve no doubt that the Time illustrator is probably honestly baffled why anyone would object to the passive-aggressive mindset behind the cartoon. Surely it’s intended audience (i.e., fellow-leftists) wouldn’t see anything wrong with it…
I can picture two fiddler crabs sitting on a rock watching the incoming tide and asking each other what they did to cause this catastrophe.
Well, darn. I thought you were finally starting to show some sense, until after that point.
Ordinary Coloradan, spot on. It should be engraved over the blackboard of every science classroom in America.
On April 18th, 2008 at 1:25 pm,
Well, I signed that petition, post haste.
AJ, you might want to double-check how you link those things next time. It pops up with your e-mail showing.
A hell of a lot more than the leftists?
TOS - at least he IS a veteran - can you say the same for the two wannabes in the Dem party?
August 2001
McCain votes against increasing the amount of cash available for veterans’ medical care
March 2004
McCain votes against creating a reserve fund for veterans’ medical care
March 2006
McCain votes against increasing veterans’ medical services funding
May 2006
McCain votes against additional funding to the VA for health care facilities
September 2007
McCain votes against the Webb Amendment, which would have provided for adequate periods of rest between deployments to Iraq
Now do a little research and see how the “two wannabes” voted on those.
Don’t you see what these libtards have done? They’ve replaced the love and reverence that one is supposed to have for God and the country and the flag with a tree. The hippies have grown up!
Looking at that nonsense is enough to make me want to start a forrest fire!
Do they know or care how many people have died for the flag that they’ve so shamelessly replaced with a stupid tree?
TOS - never said he was perfect - just a veteran. I know Obummer has never been in the service, and I know for a fact how the Clintons treat the hired help. I place less emphasis on votes than I do on character. Of the three, regardless of how I feel about him, personally, McShame has more character than the other two put together.
I have written a letter to the Editor at Time Magazine, and I encourage others to do the same.
You can reach them at letters@time.com.
Here is my letter:
Subject: Iwo Jima Vs. Treemo Jima
Dear Editor,
I find it utterly appalling that you would (poorly) Photoshop the image of the heroes raising the flag at Iwo Jima with the heroes raising a tree. I’ve been around long enough to know that Time’s “news”-base is very liberal, but don’t you think that you’ve crossed the line? You have disgraced the members of the Armed Services, and you have dishonored the memory of those men! Couldn’t you have found a more tasteful way to get your point across? I find it dissatisfying that you feel the need to slam our military (who is looking out for you, by the way) at every turn!
Viewing that atrocity on your cover is enough to make me want to start a forrest fire.
If you want to save the planet and the trees I have a simple solution for you: publish your “work” online.
I promise you there will be a lot less rubbish that way!
Disgustedly,

gollumclone #8, Walter Cronkite was around in WWII. He
servedhindered and slanderedwiththe troops in WWII as war correspondent.expat said (#75):
Try to explain, in words. This is a blog where people express themsleves. Are you worried that if you explain your feelings others will call you little girly man?
Global warming deniers are like Chamberlain with their thousands of excuses why the gathering storm is not dangerous. Gore is like Chruchill. He will be recognized as having seen the danger.
Someone else had the same idea, only replacing “fiddler crabs” with “Reverends Sharpton and Robertson” and “rock” with “couch”. Then you have the new Al Gore commercial! Which still makes me wanna puke.

#126 lgm,
Then you advocate a pre-emptive strike against Iran because they are enriching uranium and developing long range missiles, right?
North Korea and Pakistan actually have nukes and are hostile towards the U.S., so of course you would strike first, right?
Gore may be like Chruchill but never Churchill. The comparison of questioners to Chamberlain assumes the calling them people with blinders on and a feel good attitude. That is wrong and disingenuous at best. Gore is Chicken Little more than not. We who doubt him and his ilk are more closely in harmony with the Earth because we know we will never be so powerful or arrogant to assume we can hurt it. We don’t close our eyes to geological and meteorological evidence that refutes the GW crowd. If anything our eyes are far more open than a Chamberlain. The real danger is the breaking down of a successful capitalist country and the breaking down of a society into middling, non producers and lazy people.
If you support Gore and his minions, I guarantee an Atlas Shrugged reaction. Let’s see you live in THAT world.
A better analogy would be “global warming activists” are Don Quixote fighting windmills, and “deniers” are the townspeople telling their kids to stay away from the crazy guy who sees stuff that’s not there.
Meanwhile, Mother Gaia is gearing up to destroy us all from below.
Stop plate techtonics!!
Gore wouldn’t make a pimple on Churchill’s butt
lgm @#126 has a point. If we are melting the ice caps on Mars…
Idiot. Do some reaserch. Of the original (almost 500) scientists who signed on to the I.P.C.C. only 12 will still stand on the idea that GW is caused by man.
Here is a brief conclusion to the report that states the human factor as I know you will not look it up yourself.
The Attribution Question
Note that the IPCC’s 2007 report has reduced its estimate of the entire anthropogenic contribution to climate change since 1750 to jus
