Readers redesign DHS’s civics flash cards
Last week, I told you about the DHS civics flash card set for immigrants seeking naturalization that included one rather annoying entitlement-stoking card:
Readers sent in a bunch of redesigned cards. Many satirized the open-borders entitlement theme; others offered serious entries. I think I’ll print them all out and send them to Secretary Chertoff. Here’s a sample:
From PBlakeney…
From Will Moore…
From John G…
From Leo Alberti:
And just to drive the point home again, because it can’t be repeated often enough, Jayleen sends this:

BRAVO! A job well done.
Somehow the nuance of privilege vs. right gets lost on the open borders folks.
If we can get Babs, Bill and Johnny to move to Canada; I volunteer to slam the door shut on them.
Nice
Doesn’t Johnny Depp live in France? Very fitting.
And to live in this country legally is also a privilege and not a right. Now, get a job and learn to speak English properly (no ebonics, mexibonics, jihadonics are allowed).
Schweeet.
~Entry into this country is a Privilege, not a Right~
Despite what some of our own politicians say.
Yes, TXRose-#5 J. Depp lives in France because – I paraphrase – he doesn’t want his children tainted w/ US ideals.
Back to $$$$:
verified stats:
Illegals $338.3 BILLION $$$$$$$
welfare
med.
ed.
etc.etc.etc.
The so called “bankrupting” Irq war: $125 billion.
For me-I’ll take supporting our troops and stopping another 9/11 before it starts. $$$$$ WELL spent.
Helping corrupt Mexico: NOOOO
…Iraq
All are very well done and direct hits on the topic. Michelle, I hope you have forwarded all of the entries to DHSINO (Dept. of Homeland Security In Name Only) Secretary Chertoff so he might (just maybe) get a glimpse of what all of us everyday Joe’s/Jane’s think.
Nearly every legal immigrant I’ve ever known is a better American than most native-born Americans I know. And it didn’t take a bunch of silly flash cards to make them that way, either.
One benefit of being a US citizen? You get to pay taxes.
If you are illegal, you get that opportunity because we’re all raaacist you know.
if you are illegal you DON’T get that opportunity . . . oops
What a freaking waste of time. Illegal aliens are a reality that cannot be changed. The Elite American Ruling Class is unified on this matter. Our borders will be relinquished and Mexico, Canada, and USA will become one.
C’mon people, it’s something that cannot be stopped!
Someone I was talking to today said that the only certainty now is that we are headed for civil war.
I agree…
#15, i sure hope you forgot the sarc tag …
#15
What a weak and spineless person you must be. I hope that I never have to depend on someone like you for anything.
#16
I wuldn’t be too worried if the folks on the other side are like #15.
Michelle – Is your nose growing? You seem to be piling on more lies on this issue.
Illegal immigration is a huge issue and we should definitely close our borders and send as many as illegals back. But the flash cards are not an issue and producing them does not use tax payer money. I have already mentioned this in your original post on this and I am repeating same here.
Flash card are made by USICS which gets its funding from various (Visa, green card and citizenship) applications. Here is the link from USCIS directly-
http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=725c0d1277470110VgnVCM1000000ecd190aRCRD&vgnextchannel=6185bf4c32b50110VgnVCM1000000ecd190aRCRD
Secondly, under current rules, someone needs to first have a visa/green card for atleast 5 years before they can apply for citizenship. In practice it takes much longer. During these years, a visa holder or a green card holder pays taxes just like citizens.
Again I am against illegal immigration completely but I stick to facts to base my opposition.
BLESS YOUR LYING HEART, MICHELLE
You’ve never served in the military, have you?
Are you able to defend your position without spewing insults to our host?
I hope the mods are on the ball tonight…
Brad, your wrong – under certain conditions a legal resident can apply in shorter then 5 years. For example if they came over on a K-1 fiancee visa and married a US Citizen they can apply in three. And (I seem to recall – can’t testify to this:) if they served in the armed forces.
And Michelle problem with the flash-cards is not that they are being handed out but that they say that the most important benefit in being a citizen is ‘Federal Job’ ‘Passport’ and ‘Petition Others to join you’. No metion of the freedom of speech, religion, association – bill of rights….
From the original article:
And why the hell does a question about the United Nations appear in this? They are not part of the U.S. Government.
brad_sk – so why do you think Michelle is lying just because you missed the point? Crazyfool said it best in #23.
I think you owe MM an apology!
Good Job Michelle
I recognize Jayleen’s work.
Hope to see more of it in the future!
And pay those taxes!
Y’know, there’s this interesting phenomenon where once an immigrant becomes legal and has to legally pay taxes, he/she becomes anti-illegal immigration. Wonder why?
I guess you forgot to read the Terms of Agreement….No morons allowed!
It takes 5 years of being a green card holder before you can apply for citizenship? Wow, this is nice to know, I’m sure all the idiots you vote for will adhere to this policy.
In case you didn’t already know, Michelle is one of the strongest advocates for border enforcement, ending illegal immigration and having LEGAL, sane immigration policies.
Clean that scarlet “L” off your forehead junior!

Retired CPO that married a legal immigrant.
Any other questions?

Yourself?

So tell me oh wise one …
if the money to print these ridiculous flash cards is paid for by fees for visas and green cards … how is that not government money? …
last I checked those fees were paid to the federal government …
and it is USCIS … not USICS …
your own link shows that it is a US Government agency (the .gov is a reserved domain for the US Federal Government and can only be used by official government entities) …
The employees of USCIS are federal employees paid for by our tax money to perform federally funded services for a federally funded agency … therefore any and all moneys paid to that agency for services become federal funds just like all other taxes and fees …
That means that Michelle is entirely accurate in saying that our taxes pay for the printing of these ridiculous flash cards …
Get your own facts straight next time
Looks like another troll has exposed himself eh brad?
morning soap
#30 – You seem to have done a little bait-and-switch on brad_sk’s logic. You make a good argument for the position that the flash cards are being paid for with “government money,” but then a little later you refer to it as “tax payer money,” which is not quite the same thing. When I send a letter through the US mail it no doubt involves the expenditures of some “governement money” along the way, but would you say that it is “tax payer money” that paid for my letter to be sent? I’m under the impression that my purchase of the stamp covers the cost. I think he might be making a similar point about the funding of the flash cards.
#31 I wish there was a Godwin’s Law for troll-calling. As in, first one to call Troll! loses.
Why worry about the flash cards? After the election, all of the illegals will get amnesty without having to study flash cards, especially ones printed in that racist language English.
notanexpert …
all government money is the people’s money … e.g. taxpayers … semantics not withstanding they are one and the same … regardless of how the moneys were collected they ultimately belong to the people …

Semper Fi back atcha …
Having several friends in the Post Office, I can say this with accuracy, NO tax dollars are used to run the Post Office. Yes it is an independent entity under the auspices of the Federal Gov’t. But NO taxes are used.

The poster is not named Lead Based Paint for nothing you know
My sister works with a woman who immigrated here from South Korea. It took her many years to become a citizen and she wanted to bring her mother over here to live with her. This was denied. She gets very upset talking about the illegals in this country, especially when hearing they sneak in their entire uneducated, non-English speaking families and that the gov’t would like to give them all amnesty. Guess if you can’t walk over the border, you just don’t matter.
Here’s my contribution’s:
Question: You have many rights in the USA, but what is more important than rights?
Answer: Your responsibilities as a citizen.
Question: Why are you leaving your society and culture to come to the USA?
Answer: Because you are not satisfied with it, and believe that American society and culture are better.
I love the creativity of the Photoshoppers – a picture is worth a

Although I’m not quite sure if this poster is being sarcastic or not, I do remember a theory bandied about in the late eighties about a similar move to unite the Americas into an economic super union designed to counter the EU, which was then only a conception, and to strengthen our hand in a possible confrontation with an emerging Eurasian market.
I would hate to think of such an affront to the United States’ sovereignty ever taking place, but given the world’s trend towards continental super unions, I do think the possibility of this happening is very real in the next one hundred years.
Seems kind of silly and downright unamerican to patronize and chastise folks immigrating legally to our United States. The benefits of U.S. citizenship noted by DHS don’t seem all that extravagant or offensive, either.
I hate it when illegal aliens try to equate their crimes to legal immigration, yet we’re browbeating folks trying to do it legally.
Then again, the three branches card was amusing…
Oh, this clarified it a bit for me. I think this may be an issue of semantics. Benefits and rights are considerably different.
Ironically enough, most legal immigrants I personally know (disclosure: I worked for the government on international matters) have far more knowledge about the history and founding documents of our country than the lion’s share of natural-born citizens. Guess that says something positive about the legal immigration process … or terrible about our schools.
Correct and they need to pay taxes during those 3 years too. Also the percentage of people of on K-1 fiancee visa is less as compared to other LEGAL immigrants and the percentage is much lesser when compared to illegal immigrants.
Do you have any valid points to argue or you just blame others when they expose your false facts?
Is that why you believe everything you see on this blog without checking facts? 5 year rule is a true fact but I guess jerks like you can’t understand rules.
No, they are not. They are paid by application fees. Taxes are something which you pay on your paycheck. I can’t believe you don’t the difference b/w taxes and fees. Are you in like 2nd grade or something?
notanexpert on 32 gives nice example on the difference b/w taxes and fees.
>..and it is USCIS … not USICS …..
Agreed, corrected.
Again, illegal immigration is absolutely an issue that needs to be resolved by fences, sending people back and law enforcement. But this post is so full of mistakes which I am pointing it out here. Lets leave the style of arguing/posting with no fact-check to liberal idiots – not here.
brad_sk
The USCIS is a bureau of the DHS and is staffed by federal employees and falls under the same pay and benefits packages as the rest of the federal government employees under the auspices of the Office of Personnel Management …
USCIS pay and benefits
From the USCIS.GOV website:
USCIS provides the legal representation for the DHS in immigration proceedings and does most of the immigration adjudications as well as processing the visas and green cards and other immigration related documentation …
Sorry … the job positions are part of the GS Schedule so they are on the government payroll and it has nothing to do with how much they collect in fees …
brad,
You made it pretty clear without my help.
DL,
Good morning to you too!
back atcha Soap …
Of course, US Navy as well with joint combat experience. My sister-in-law is a legal immigrant to the US, too.
The men and women I have served with exhibit, to me, some the finest examples of US pride and values of anyone I have ever known, legal immigrants included. It is a shame that in all your time in the service you didn’t ever have the honor to serve with the types of people I did.

Perhaps I should have worded my comment to clearly exclude the fine men and women serving in the armed forces. These people were not who I had in mind when I made the comment. It’s been a long while since I retired. The native-born Americans I envisioned when I made the comment are the indolent, self-absorbed apathetic video game addicts I encounter in civilian life who could give a rat’s ass about our nation (refer to comment #15). I don’t think that our positions are signifigantly different, you and I. And a BZ for the joint-combat duty.

And of course those who have served.
