Ask not what you can do for your country…
Ask what your government can do to weatherize your home.
Sigh.

Bolton’s photoshopped picture to the right about says it all for me.
Thanks! I was wondering how I was going to get all that done! Actually, I think the government should remodel my house (including the furnace and AC) so I can save even more money on my electric bill. Oh - And don’t forget to bring me a new fridgidator too!
Solution is simple and two-fold:
1. Get government off our backs by cutting taxes and regulation.
2. Allow free people to stand and fall by their own decisions, freeing others to give charitably to those who need a helping hand.
Done.
C’mon, AC - I was just getting ready to quit my day job and let my apparently rich uncle take care of me!
Oh - never mind. I’m a white, natural born citizen and work for a living - I could never qualify
While I agree that a lot of low income folks live in drafty places with high fuel bills, there is a cheap fix called plastic window sheeting. 3M (and others) make a clear plastic window cover and double back tape. We used it in our rent house back in the day to keep the money in our pocket instead of Communist Edison (of Ill.). They really work. So why don’t these folks do it? Simple. They’re waiting for Nanny to show up and do it for them (as always).
30 pcs’ Bolton pic in comment #1 is here. It just shows up for “uncategorized” posts and stuff related to nukes, I think.
But wait, the earth is heating up, right? There should be no need for this if global warming is a fact. Note that I’m typing this while watching the snowfall outside my window.
All of which reminds me–where I grew up a group of area churches held a “work camp” every summer where we would drive down and fix up old people’s houses. We’d paint them, caulk them, knock out the hornets’ nests, and the adults would take care of some minor repairs.
Cost to taxpayers: ze-roh.
I’ve got a leaky sink, has anybody got Rodhams phone number?
Ha this is nuthin! On my electric bill is a surcharge for a fund that pays bills for people who don’t pay theirs. There is also a fund for people who move in next to the airport to sound proof the home they buy. The airport was already there, mind you.
Minnesota,the land where individualism died.
I think what really needs to be done is all the people that need the assistance should be moved to TN and NC where they could live with AlGore and the Breck Girl. For those in the NE please reserve seats on the bus to Westchester where you can stay will the Hillerator and her trusty spouse. That should about do it. No, for those in the midwest get your tickets to chicago where you can stay with Obamanator and his trusty sidekick, Jeremiah. That solves the problems. Done
aren’t there consequences to not being responsible anymore?
my grandmother spent one weekend at the beginning of winter every year to weatherize her home. she sealed the windows from top to bottom. it wasn’t expensive. she reused the plastic year after year. it simply took a time investment.
liberals want us to believe that poor people actually work 20 hours a day. while i’m sure there are those working poor who do work more than a 40 hours work year without compensating for travel - i dispute the fact that all poor people are lacking time to invest in the place they rest their head.
if you choose not to weatherize your home, then pay the bill that comes.
Man, I with the govt. would weatherize my home. It’s old and drafty, worse yet, a rental so I don’t want to pour tons of money into weatherizing it myself.
Of course, I wouldn’t want the govt. to weatherize my home if it came out of the pockets of my fellow taxpayers, but I’m starting to think I’m the only person left in this nation who thinks that way.
I guess this is a litmus test.
If you feel the FEDERAL government should help you caulk your house.
You are an idiot.
If you believe taking care of yourself, your family and your home.
You are a Conservative.
Where’s Jimmy CAAARRRTAAAR when you need him. He could fix up those windows and give them hugs and kisses while doing it.
…as if politicians can fix anything. If I had my way with a caulk gun, I would seal their mouths. That could fix the global warming problem too.
I’m sure at some point during this campaign Hillary will say she’s a better candidate because she can breast feed the poor.
Ewwww what a nasty thought.
Nixon said it best. The government should do for the people what the people can’t do for themselves.
Here’s a couple of ideas of mine:
Make Dave Ramsey’s “Total Money Makover” required reading in school. Teach children to abstain until they’re married, because many poor people are single mothers. Teach children to live BENEATH their means, and save the rest.
I know all of that will never go over because it requires people to be responsible for themselves, rather than depending on Uncle Sam.
Now Ms. Parrott later goes on to state:
Hmm. I’m looking at the historical poverty levels:
http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/poverty/histpov/hstpov4.html
And after reaching a reasonable high in 82/83 (effect of the Carter years) at 12.3 for all families, and 7.6 for married-couple families, it’s gone down to 9.8 and 4.9 in 2006. And there was another spike in 2004 (should be the effect of the recession of 2001 and 9/11) and since 2004 it’s gone down. So, Ms. Parrott, what did cause poverty rates to go down since 1983?
If you believe taking care of yourself, your family and your home.
You are a Conservative.
Correction, libocrat. If you don’t want the Government to take care of you.
And your reference to Hillary breast feeding the poor. YOU ARE ONE SICK, NASTY, PERVERTED, ……
Well, I guess I’m done with lunch now.
Yes TRE, the thought of Rodhams nipple in your mouth is not a pleasant one.
But get used to it. She is our mommy. It takes a village.
God please let me be wrong.
After the government weatherizes your house the EPA will ahow up and condemm it because they will find out the caulking was a product of China and contains high levels of lead. The FBI will subponea you and seize the property since they have ongoing investigation into the corrupt politican that represents your district and need the house as evidence. The IRS will then show up with a bill for you not reporting the improvements to your house and declaring them on your tax bill. The local government will adjust the appraisal on your home and send you a new property tax bill.
You, ? You wind up living under an underpass. But your house is really energy effiecient and if anybody ever gets to live in it again they will realise all the savings.
Where can I pick some free government Soylent Green?
I’m hungry, feed me government feed me!
Oh, and I need some toilet paper too.
Why oh why did you have to bring up her filthy pillows?! Fetch me the caulk-gun, posthaste, so that I might seal my minds eye shut!
Yep. My husband and I still have this stuff on the windows of our apartment. If only we had known a year ago that we could get an irresponsible mortgage on a drafty house instead of saving and taking care of things on our own.
My parent’s church in the burbs, Christ Community Church, has a yearly Great Day of Serving where they do a lot of those same things. It’s wonderful.
Ah! Stop saying dirty things!
Move over lgm.
Amen on the books Dave Ramsey. “Credit: what we use to buy things we don’t need, with money we don’t have, to impress people we don’t like.”
Before I started driving a truck, I worked construction for years. Several as a heat and air man before I went back into the family trade of trim carpentry. I have seen homes built that are over 5,000 sq ft, heated and cooled, that cost less than $90.00 a month in utilities in the heat of summer. It can be done. But it’s not the job of the federal government to do it.
I work in the welfare bidness, folks. You want some poverty stats? Among married couples of ALL races, poverty is around 6%. Among single white women with children, povery rate is 24%. Among black single women with kids, poverty is 34%.
You want to stop poverty? Four steps that everyone in this business knows but won’t talk about: 1. Graduate from high school. 2. Get and keep any full time job. 3. Don’t have kids until marriage. 4. Don’t have kids until you can afford to.
It isn’t rocket science. Previous generations knew this. The 60s destroyed that.
Ok, no more references to any part of Rodhams body, I will especially refrain from any reference to her ample thighs and buttocks.
On a more serious note: If I vote for Jesus Obama and he gets elected, does that mean Michelle Obama gets to be President in 8 years?
And will the goverment pay for my outstanding college loans and my childrens piano lessons?
Crud… That should read, “Amen on the books Dave Ramsey has authored.”
Welcome to nanny nation, where everyone is given everything.
if you don’t earn it, you don’t respect it.
BANNED!
Not really.
And ankles are fair game.
she is one wet nurse, who scares the crap out of me.
Is that pronounced Hay Sush?
I’ve got a fifty-year old almond tree in my front yard that doesn’t have ankles THAT thick!
How about the idea of promoting “personal responsibility” and possibly “pushing” people out of poverty by removing the entitlements that keep them there? I have watched GENERATIONS of people grow up in the projects around here, getting handout after handout then complaining because their dwellings aren’t very nice or there’s no decent area to wash their Jaguar. Well, TOO BAD! Sucks to be you!
And just who the hell is the government to say I have to give even MORE of my hard earned income for ANY reason to the clowns that refuse to work for a living. This is not rocket science, nor does one need a magic wand. Just get off your backside and pull YOUR weight!
Nothing but the truth there!
Teaching kids in school not to spend more than they make…. What are you thinking? Schools are not here to teach life skills, only touchy feel good stuff.
Our church has been going through the Financial Road to freedom program, and I just love the comment our pastor made; If you spend more in a year than you make in a year, you are lost. If you don’t know if you are spending more in a year than you make than you are really lost.
OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FALLS INTO THE REALLY LOST GROUP
Can we please fight illiteracy first? What does any of that mean? I know, the government should fund a system where children between the ages of 5 and 18 can go to government buildings to learn. We can call them - ummmm, schools! OK, that didn’t work, lets fight poverty by teaching children to caulk your home, though that may unfairly put illegal aliens out of work. Drat, this is hard…
libocrat from your post #14 it appears I am a conservative after all. I guess that means I have to get up early everyday and keep working for a living. Rats!
Just when I thought Uncle Sugar could take care of all my needs, but I seriously wonder what I would have to do to get my self respect back if I every allowed the Government to take care of my every needs.
According to New York Times reporter Matt Bai, CBPP is one of three left wing think tanks funded by the Democracy Alliance. The other two are the Center for American Progress and the Economic Policy Institute. According to Bai’s account, representatives of CBPP and the other two Democracy Alliance-sponsored think tanks attended the May 2006 meeting of the Democracy Alliance at the Barton Creek Resort near Austin, Texas. Their role was to “talk about the agendas they were busy crafting that would catapult Democratic politics into the economic future.”
Mayday! Mayday! This is the SS Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. We’ve struck a truthberg and our credibility is sinking.
What the hell is the “Responsible Fatherhood and Healthy Families Act”? Are we going to be paying Black fathers now to do what they should morally be doing in the first place - Raising their children. What a load of crap. I’ve had it up to here with the government taking my money away from me and giving it to irresponsible people.
20,000,000 homes, divided by 2,000 jobs is 10,000 homes per worker?
Do I have that right??
It gets back to “money isn’t everything”. Now being poor is some dreaded disease that the government thinks it can fix. OK really - what is so wrong with being poor?
I grew up poor - in a tiny house with my parents and 3 siblings. We did not have a lot - we didn’t even have A/C until I was 12 years old! (We used an attic fan). Yet I cannot remember being unhappy or feeling downtrodden because of my parent’s financial status. Sure, it was tough sharing one bathroom with 5 other people. My parents drove used cars, we had one TV (no cable!) and didn’t get a ton of junky toys for Christmas. My parents didn’t expect anything from the government. They took care of us without government assistance. But we had each other and I have wonderful memories of my childhood.
People in our country are so overindulged, they don’t even realize it! It’s sickening.
If any of them honestly cared about poverty they would abolish the Federal Reserve. The Inflation Tax kills the middle class, further exploiting the “Two Americas” divide. But the only thing “100 years” McCain, Hitlery, and the Obamicon can come up with is more spending. None of them have EVER addressed the real reasons the the middle class is dying.
Will the government please send someone over to my house and cut my lawn for me? Oh yeah, what about taking my garbage out too.
Boomer, I’m sorry, but you’re really going to have to work.
You see, our socialist friends in the Democrat party need your income to pay their dead beats.

I’m sorry, but do to an increased shortage in illegal aliens the government is unable to provide yard maintance services at this time. We will be able to resume this service as soon as we are able to tear down that pesky fence just to the south of TX….. all 3 feet of it.
Gosh, looks like we have wasted a lot of money the past 6+ years we’ve been homeowners. What, with putting 20% down, making payments on time, keeping our debt in check, looking for ways to improve the efficiency of our home OURSELVES. If only we had waited until next year, Shillary or Obamalongadingdong would have paid for ALL of it!
The price of carbon?
Using less fossil fuel increases the cost? Using more fossil fuel increases the cost?
Sounds like the global warming hysteria — with a new twist — once carbon has a price, the control of it, the regulation of it, will be used to generate scarcity.
The ultimate power grab by liberals.
Hoo–hoo-haa-haa-haa!!!!!!! (evil laugh)
Poverty has been a backburner politically, not because it doesn’t evoke public response, but because…
liberals don’t believe there is anything the government shouldn’t do but have been unable to fix the problem despite spending Trillions of dollars on it since the 1960’s.
Now if all those delightful kids with spray cans would paint old folks’ houses instead of everything else, that would be a start.
This is getting better and better. Not only will they pay my mortgage for me, but weatherize my home too. I can also stop work, and sit at home, collecting a monthly check and food stamps. My wife can do the same. I can declare bankruptcy and keep my new car too, plus wipe out all my credit card bills, in one fell swoop. I can declare hardship and get my utilities covered. Now I will get universal healthcare. Gee, life is becoming interesting. Just sit on my butt and let the American taxpayer take care of my every need. I think I’ll start lobbying for government paid vacations…maybe Hawaii. And, in return, all I have to do is shake hands with any democrat, smile, and promise him/her my vote. Wow!
I would like to add…someone who believes in “but what you can do for your country”, getting a surprise.

20 million homes, 2000 employees= 10000 homes per employee.
Sounds like cattle futures math to me.
