These things have a life expectancy of 10 years or so. As a kid I grew up with a steady diet of “Reagan is stupid / cowboy / Hitler / worse than Hitler” etc. I heard it from my teachers, every boob in Hollywood, Don Henley wrote a song, Phil Collins made a video, and every intellectual was convinced RR was going to start WW3. A generation later all but a few dimwits admit Reagan was correct in his handling of the Soviets. I am expecting in my later years I will be hearing the Bush successful put in place the policies that turned back the rise in Islamic Facism.

Some years ago, I read a story about a couple of folks who sat beside the road and waved at the cars going by – father and son. The son commented in the story that he had graduated from college with a degree in philosophy, and explained he wasn’t working. He said there wasn’t much of a market for philosophers.
Don’t think there’s going to be much market for artists, either. Welcome to the brave, new world.
Linn Benton is an Oregon Community College supported by the taxpayers! What a waste of time and materials! Just what skill does such an “activity” prepare students in order to get a job in the real work place? Any suggestions? I am at a loss to think of one! jb

Just take a look at the classes offered at Oregon state, about 12 miles away in Corvallis and you will understand. I lived for 10 years about 5 miles away from LBC which is located in Albany, Oregon. Albany is considered to be ‘redneck’ by the elitist moonbats in Corvallis. So you can imagine what Corvallis was like. I swear all the Haight-Ashbury burnouts moved to Oregon when they decided to actually quit living on the streets and start a family. And believe me, they taught their kids every bit of their anti America rhetoric.
I dated a woman who was a grade school teacher in Salem, and the stories she would tell me about 2nd graders and their parent was enough to make you want to beat the kids parents with a bat, then go after the kid.
Amazingly you get east of the Cascade mountains and you get a whole different breed of person. Big cattle ranch country out there. Funny how a little hard work can change your perspective on things.

Right after we married I changed my residence to Oregon and adopted her hometown of Prineville in the beautiful Ochoco Valley. I kept an Oregon drivers license and voted there until I retired from the USAF. Hey, Feebs – maybe it WAS an art class, but the art department didn’t have any place to put their prized pieces of art – or maybe the English Department was so jealous, the Art Department loaned them the pieces – sort of like a museum.
The difference between Democrats like Other Side and normal human beings is that, tools like Other Side don’t object to President Bush being portrayed as a monkey in a college English class. And normal humans would.

I agree with #49. Freedom of Speech only seems to apply to those on the left. During the extremely rare times a conservative is allowed to speak at a university they are routinely shouted down, have pies thrown at them, etc. Half-pint Mamoud can speak at Columbia but a Marine recruiter cannot.

I live in Albany, Oregon (home of LBCC) and my wife takes some classes there toward her biochemistry degree at Oregon State University in Corvallis.
Regarding some of the broad-brush statements above about the local area, I’d point out that LBCC is like most any other college: if you want to study your ass off you go to the science, math and engineering departments, and if you want to stay in touch with your inner child then the liberal arts programs are for you. My wife hasn’t mentioned encountering any kind of the foolishness on display in this “English” department, she’s been too busy staying up until 2:00 or 3:00 every night slogging through her chemistry and math homework.
As for Corvallis being some bastion of leftism, I beg to differ. Oregon State University has an earned reputation for being pretty conservative (it’s primarily an engineering and agricultural college). My wife constantly marvels at the large numbers of Navy, Air Force and Marine ROTC cadets in her classes there.
If you want to get caught in a place where it’s perpetually 1968, the University of Oregon in Eugene is the place to be. They don’t call the U of O “The Berkeley of the Northwest” for no reason: its denizens commonly refer to OSU students as “rednecks” at “Moo U.”
I went to the U of
ZeroO for both undergrad and law school; I saw Ronald Reagan give a speech there during his 1980 campaign, the purpose of his visit being that his campaign advisers felt he needed “more practice dealing with a hostile audience” (he got one, too). It’s also where I watched Gerald Ford get shouted down by a screaming mob during a speaking engagement, and where I witnessed a member of the “Revolutionary Communist Youth Brigade” hurl a gasoline-soaked, flaming yellow-dyed bedsheet at Victor Tomseth upon his return from being an Iranian hostage, his assailant shouting “Here’s your God-damned yellow ribbon!”Cut Corvallis and the science/math/engineering departments at LBCC some slack. They don’t deserve to be tarred for the actions of a distinct minority.

There is a significant difference between harmless jokes and political satire and the level of disrespect and vitriol being strewn about today.
There used to be a line between acceptable and unacceptable, but the left has erased it. Publishing classified documents and calling for assassinations are illegal and should be punished. Instead they are rewarded with praise and the perpetrators are cajoled for more.

Their actual student art page has some good stuff, but no indication whether this is or isn’t from an art class. If it’s from an English class it’s dopey. As art, while technically ok (the sculpture anyway) it’s derivative and boring (IMHO).
The liberals are working in the schools and it won’t be long before the “crop sown” ripens. They expect, soon, that the new generation will be so indoctrinated in socialist ideas that getting power and holding it will be easy. They see the day when the Constitutional government is ditched for a new government steeped in the marxist/communistic values that have failed before, but hope for a better result. More like a cult and utopia community, this country will sink into nothing more than a society dependent on the hew leaders for everything.

I have to call BS on that one Regulus, I lived in Cornvalley for two years prior to moving to Albany (in large part to get away from the moonbats that populate it) If you think OSU isn’t every bit as liberal as U of O you’re either in denial or walk around with blinders on. OSU and the city are birds of a feather. I remember my first year there seeing a protest/parade of militant lesbians around the OSU campus and what struck me was their advocating violence towards men, while supposedly protesting violence. I’ve seen that school take nice, sweet little farm girls from eastern Oregon and turn them in to moonbat, man hating lesbian’s by their sophomore year.
OSU is alot of things, but conservative, even in the remotest sense of the word, isn’t one of them. And the fact that LBCC is a 10 minute drive west on 34 should tell you something. OSU offers a class on ‘white privilege in America’ I would bet so does LBCC. I even saw an OSU student write to the editorial page of the Albany Democrat-Herald a year or two ago that ownership and driving of a gas powered car was, among other -isms and -ists, racist. Owning and driving a car was racist!!! And he learned this type of bovine scaterology at OSU.
So please, stop trying to delude the nice people here that OSU is some bastion of conservatism in the middle of moonbat central, it’s not. Is U of O worse? I think it is, but certainly not by much.
However that being said, I am still planning to move back to Oregon and live out my remaining days there witin the next 2-3 years and I am, and always will be, a Beaver backer. Go Beavs!!!

The important difference is that Ms. Coulter is not teaching students. Her sarcastic and pithy remarks are the venue of editorials mostly frequented by adults.
I disagree: teaching students to parrot a teacher’s bias is disturbing on several levels, approaching the level of what certain fascist regimes tried to impose on their children.
Brainwashing and indoctrination are brainwashing and indoctrination, regardless of who is doing it.
These aren’t 5th graders…they are college students (adults). How can you claim they are parroting a teacher’s bias? Bush’s approval rating is under 30%…are you suggesting that more than 70% of this country has been brainwashed and indoctrinated?
I can’t speak to the effort that these students put in their projects, but I know plenty of college students who would prefer not to argue with their professor’s ideology and who would thus be likely to pick a project with which their professor would agree, with the hopes that it would get them a better grade.
I’m not saying that some of these students DON’T hate George Bush, just that some of them are probably just at that point in the semester where they don’t want to think too much about their schoolwork. I’m definitely there–I should be working on a term paper…
And also: how can you claim that they aren’t parroting their teacher’s bias? There aren’t any signs on those monkeys or propaganda posters* that say, “I sincerely hate George Bush and think he is the worst thing ever to happen to the country and the world.”
*I say “propaganda posters” because that is the style of posters which these works mimic. I am not saying that these are propaganda posters
