Nancy Pelosi’s lost Biblical verse
On Earth Day, Nancy Pelosi quoted the Bible: “The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.’ On this Earth Day, and every day, let us honor the earth and our future generations with a commitment to fight climate change.”
Apparently, it’s a favorite verse of hers. She has used it in official statements on global warming, the budget, Martin Luther King Day, Christmas, and why she’s a Democrat. Jim Hoft has audio chronicles.
Dr. Claude Mariottini, an Old Testament scholar, noted on his blog last year and this year that no such Biblical verse exists.
CNS News asked other Bible scholars for the source of the quote in the Old Testament that Nancy Pelosi keeps invoking.

Of course, Mrs. Pelosi is a typical liberal hypocrite in this regard. She supports population control, but has five children herself, much like Al Gore, who frets about mankind overwhelming the Earth but is a father of four, or Ted Turner, who supports China’s one-child policy but is himself a father of five.
Since Mrs. Pelosi seems to be in such need of biblical guidance, I suppose she won’t mind a backslid Baptist preaching her an old-time gospel sermon.
Because, you see, if you’ll “spend a little time in the Word” — as we bitter Bible-clingers are wont to do — once you get finished reading the Old Testament, you come to something we call the New Testament, which is about a guy named Jesus. Maybe you heard of him.

I guess it all depends on what Bible you believe in. “Bible,” after all, is derived from the Greek “Biblios,” which means book. That’s why the Bible we are most familiar with has “Holy” in front of it – literally, “Holy Book.” I doubt if the “bible” SanFranNan reads from is holy in any way.

Politicians misquote the Bible all the time. They often quote “An eye for an eye” as advocating harsh firm punishment. If you read it in context it means something completely different: don’t escalate feuds by excessive retaliation.
Then there’s the Bible’s prohibition against homosexuality. The Bible condemns in stronger terms such things as working on Saturday, wearing clothes with blended fabric, and failing to forgive debts every seven years.
They are looking in the wrong Bible. I am certain it is right there in the Bible of the Church of the Earth Gods, written by the high exhaulted oracle, prophet and self ordained god of carbon (the dominant god in the cluster of gods), Al Gore.

Actually, it’s known as “Hamurabbi’s Law”, and it meant nothing of the kind. It’s also worth noting that present day law imposes nothing even approaching this level of equivalence, which may help account for the crime rate.
Soap, LGM is right about those particular verses. And 30 is right that there’s misinterpretation and then there is fabrication. Misinterpretation is probably more dangerous but fabrication speaks volumes about the person making stuff up.
Of course, many religious leaders believe in environmental conservatism. This world is a gift from God and should be kept for future generations. I hope there’s no room for controversy there.

I disagree. I believe one of the main reasons that the left has attained so much power in this country is simply that their ideas are so ludicrous that people think it isn’t worth while debating them. It wasn’t very long ago that socialized medicine was just a big joke. If either Democrat wins this election, it could be reality.
Having a Masters in Religious Studies, I gave up long ago arguing stuff like this. That’s why I fear Islamic doctrine and liberal quotes from religious text. Say what you will about ultra Christians, more times than not, they know the Bible better than most…. not always with the greatest of results, though.

OK, before I will listen to Pelosi-ites (lgm for instance) they need to read and explain to me these Holy Bible verses and how it applies to them:
1. Romans 3:23
2. Romans 6:23
3. Romans 5:8
4. Romans 10:13
5. Romans 10:9,10
6. Revelation 3:20
Unless you “get” those verses everything else the Bible has to say about anything is meaningless and doesn’t apply to you.
Bottom line- Why would God’s people listen to the God-less about what they have to say about God?

Not to sidetrack you there Soap, because I agree 100% with the context in which you meant that posting. But the correct interpretation of the original text is “Thou shall not murder”. Killing someone who breaks in your home with a gun who is about to shoot you is totally different than being on the other end of that scenario and willfully murdering another human being.
