…maybe you should know what gas prices are before you go on the attack. Ask your government driver to let you know the next he/she makes a stop at that thing called a gas station. Man of the People Larry King actually has to correct her–and does a good job pressing her to explain what happened to her big promise two years ago to bring gas prices down:
Watch her stammer, blink, and struggle to quickly pull a number out of her hat.
I have no idea where she got the “$2.56 on average” figure.
Maybe it was in her Bible.
After King tells her the average is $3.50, she mumbles “Oh, it’s down six cents.”

I’d like to know when Nancy’s going to do something about the rising price of arugula.
It’s about $3.65 in my of the woods. Rather than piss and moan about gas, you know what we do? Adjust. We drive where we want, but we plan our trips a little more carefully, and we cut back on non-essentials (that would include giant TV’s, fancy phone plans, eating out, etc., for you gimme-gimme liberals out there).
Sure, we want gas prices to go down, but when I hear the words government, big oil, profits, all I hear is “we will take from the rich and give to the poor, out of fairness.” It smacks of socialism.

If San Fran Nan is getting the fuel for her taxpayer provided vehicle she may have been pretty close to what government agencies are paying per gallon. The Air Force currently pays $2.97 for Unleaded and $3.01 for Diesel since the Government does not tax itself. Although if fuel is bought off base we pay $4.78 for unleaded so most vehicles are not allowed to far from the base right now. Since it is Friday and I am in a pretty good mood I thought I would throw a bone to this elitist snob liberal idiot. It just goes to show how out of touch all of our political overlords are with the plight of the common citizen thanks to decades of environmentalist/government interference and poor energy policy from both parties.
Oh, the places we can go with this.
1. Do you really think they stop to get gas in the presidential motorcade? “Hang on, Mr. President, we’re gonna top off the tank, the prices are 3 cents a gallon cheaper here.”
2. President Bush didn’t make a promise to lower prices. If you make such a promise and then don’t even know what the current price is, that shows that that you really didn’t care in the first place.
3. What makes you think there’s an equivalent here? I’m sure there’s plenty of people of both parties that take public transportation and don’t know the price of gas. Stop the foolish tit for tat business, it’s just a crutch to hide the fact that you don’t have an answer.

The cost of gas is up because of the futures market so, unless everyone now wants the feds to run wall street too then we have to live with it!

While off-topic, this has been discredited for years but lives on in legend. If I recall correctly, the surprise (this happened in the early 90’s) had to do with technology that could read torn and damaged UPC codes, which at the time most scanners couldn’t handle. Most of us back then just had to wait in line while the checker would try over and over again to have the scanner read the problematic UPC correctly and then usually ended up typing the numbers in, etc.
This was a new development at the time, and Bush was being polite as anyone would regarding someone demonstrating off new technology (a damaged/mangled UPC code being read with no problem even though scanners had been around for a long time).
I think most of the information surrounding this story can be found on any reputable site and in a number of books including the original mis-leading photo.

And now that the GOP is finally taking her to task for making that too-fantastic-to-be-believed promise to bring down gas prices - and then proceeding to absolutely nothing to make it happen once elected - she’s worried that it is an issue which will play against her party in November.
I wonder if McCain is going to consider her out of touch. I’m sure he’ll get the opportunity to say ‘I’m going to propose a tax holiday so you’ll save 18 cents’. Of course it’s gone up 50 cents in the past month so the 18 cents won’t get very far.

I agree with you about the American people being gullible enough to fall for the rhetoric. But far too many people are totally ignorant about economics in general. I have to disagree with you about Pelosi not being able to lower them. The Democraps have blocked every attempt to expand drilling off the coasts and Alaska, for example, that definitely could have helped prices. The Democraps pushed through the worthless exotic gas blends that strain refining capacity. And the Democraps are the first to add to the gas taxes which happen to be far more than the oil company profits per gallon.
The bottom line it that Nancy’s party is totally responsible for this mess. I’m not say gas would be half of the current price but it would be a lot lower than it is.

Pelosi doesn’t really give a damn about how much we the riffraff have to pay for fuel, so why would anyone expect her to know the price of gasoline? Don’t forget that when the democrats won the majority that made her house speaker she tried to commandeer an Airforce jumbo jet for her personal use (so she could spend millions of our dollars for her air travel)….sort of an Airforce 3. The reason given was that as speaker she needed mobility to do the governments work and still be able to visit her constituency in San Fran and to take her staff, family, friends, etc. along with her. Because all former speakers mangaged quite nicely without a personal Air Force jet on call 24/7, there must be another reason. I think the Old Trooper (#20) nailed it with his equation: Money + Ambition + Ego = Pelosi. The personal jet is an Ego manifestation.

How much fuel does your “Air Force Three” use? You know, the Tax-paid Jumbo Jet that you “deserve?”

The fact of the matter is, even if we were allowed to drill in ANWR & the coastal areas that are off limits now, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference as:
1) One does not drill and complete a producing oil well overnight. It takes time & an incredible amount of money.
2) Once you have a productive well, you have to connect it to a pipeline, which doesn’t miracle itself into existence overnight. It takes time & an incredible amount of money.
3) Once you have a well & a pipeline, you have to process the crude & refine it. Unfortunately, all of our refineries are running at capacity. Therefore, in order to bring this new capacity to the consumer requires new refinery capacity, which in turn requires time & an incredible amount of money.
Long story short…. there is no short term solution to high gas prices, PERIOD. “Commonsense” or otherwise.

Unfortunately, I don’t know that there are any politicians in Washington D.C. that have any real feel for what the average price per gallon of fuel is running, because they don’t feel a direct impact by it.
But, that doesn’t excuse Nancy Pelosi for thinking fuel is $2.56 per gallon, when it is averaging almost a dollar per gallon more than that right now.
Heck, $2.56 is cheap, compared to now. So much for our vacation this summer. It might cost as much to travel as the hotel would.
Here’s a word that needs to be used more when talking about our current crop of Political Masters: Kakistocracy.

If gasoline is $1.00 gallon and your profit margin is 5% your profit
dollar is $.05 for every gallon sold… A year later - Gasoline is
$2.00 gallon… profit margin is still 5%… profit dollar in
dollars is $.10. If a year later when gasoline is $3.00 gallon..
and your profit margin is STILL 5% what do you think the profit in
dollars is??? (Hint: 3 x .05) $.15/gallon… excellent…
Now: Let’s say demand is 1 Billion gallons in a year…
Year 1 = $50 Million in profit
Year 2 = $100 Million in profit
Year 3 = $150 Million in profit
all at the SAME percentage of 5%…

I’m not sure that domestic production would lower prices. There would still be a global market to set the price. One good thing about our conservation in domestic oil production is that we can consider it a strategic reserve. If ever there’s a global shortage, we may be the one’s with the supply. In other words, lets use up foreign oil and save ours. One day, that may pay huge dividends.

I don’t think many people where I live who have Hummers or Navigators are too concerned about gasoline prices. Maybe some stiffs who must commute long distances are hurting. Maybe the doubling in price of natural gas will wreak havoc on budgets of those who heat with it. The buzz is we may see oil doubling again in next four years. Regardless of whatever the price is it doesn’t faze that Nobel Prize laureate whose Tenn. home squanders an amount of energy equal to 21 normal sized homes nor slow down his need to flit about in small jets to champion the AGW cause, oops, I mean “climate change”.
