McCain: Umm, okay, maybe Wright’s fair game after all (w/ video)
Well, never mind what the conservatives say, but if Obamessiah says Wright’s fair game, then have at him:
Sen. John McCain continues to ride a very thin line on the Jeremiah Wright controversy, reiterating today that while he will not make an issue of Barack Obama’s pastor, he will not be surprised if others do.
“I believe that Senator Obama does not share those views. But Senator Obama himself says it’s a legitimate political issue so I would imagine that many other people would share that view and it will be in the arena,” McCain said during a Miami-area media availability, alluding to comments Obama made during his Fox News Sunday interview today. The Illinois Democrat told FNS that “the fact that he is my former pastor I think makes it a legitimate political issue.”
McCain steps up and throws some pretty hard punches there, about Crackerquiddick, the gas tax holiday, terrorism, and capital gains. As for the Reverend, it looks like McCain’s actually bothered to listen to what Wright had to say–about Marines resembling the legionnaires who crucified Christ, and about there being no difference in the U.S. flag and Al Qaeda’s.
He still doesn’t think that NC-GOP ad should run, but says he’s not going to play the “referee” anymore.
McCain could have saved the party a lot of frustration had he just said this a couple days ago, and he wouldn’t have looked indecisive. He may hurt Obama with this, but he hasn’t done himself any favors.

I think today may have delivered another reminder to the dense Senator McCain that he best not ignore or dis Republican conservatives. But you would think that looking at the anemic trickle of donations flowing in he would of figured that out a while ago.

I don’t get it. What evidence is there that Obama does NOT share Wright’s views? All evidence I have seen leads me to believe that he does. I would love someone to ask McCain, or anyone who thinks BO doesn’t agree with Wright, to support this assertion.
Exactly. Why else would Obama continue to go to a church where that hate rhetoric is preached? I certainly don’t see Christ in any of those sermons.
It’s Sunday in Marysville, Wa. and for once I’m having a good laugh courtesy John McCain…Johnny did the same thing with REv. Haggee of Texas…just took the money and his endorsement with zero passion…he didn’t even check that guy’s controversial stateemnts on Catholics. Really funny!

I will vote a straight Republican ticket in November… except for President. That one I will leave unselected.
I understand this sentiment, as there is very little about McCain for conservatives to like…but as much as it pains me, I will have to hold my nose and vote for him, as I truly fear for this country should either of the Marxist dems get in. He is awful, but they are frighteningly atrocious. Having said that, I am flabbergasted that these three are thisclose to the Presidency. How on Earth did this happen? They are in no way the best this country has to offer…

All McCain is trying to do is swing some of the left to his side. That’s all. If he wins, I don’t think he’ll be some sissy liberal. He’s simply aware of his position in this close race and doesn’t want to blow it. Face it, the republican party is still fragile after Bush.

McCain’s War Words: Obama’s Relations with Wright Beyond Belief

Sen. John McCain came out swinging against the Rev. Jeremiah Wright on Sunday and suggested Sen. Barack Obama’s relationship with the controversial minister was “beyond belief.”
Someone must have tapped him on the shoulder…eh?

Why does any conservative think McCain will be better than a dem for 4 years? Have you seen what Arnold has done to CA? A lot worse than Gray Davis. So, I will NOT hold my nose to vote for MCShame because 1. he will likely win because many blue collar dems will never vote for BO and 2. I will not be responsible for the demise of conservatism or feel like biting myself every time McLAme does some idiotic move, like I have been doing with Arnold and Bush. I will not settle for the lesser of 2 evils any more.
Simcoe, I can almost guarantee McCAin will do an Arnold (formerly TErminator) once elected.
IMHO, I feel that McCain is just being diplomatic about Obama, and that if Obama is given enough rope, he is going to hang himself.
Wright = Obama. They are joined at the hip, so to speak. The only difference is that Obama uses his SmothJive to deliver the message; Wright just sticks it to the Man. If you want the message in English, listen to Wright.
This is getting scary. Urban blacks will settle for nothing less than victory. If Obama is defeated in a landslide, it will be bad enough. A landslide defeat is, BTW, not terribly likely — this is not 1872 (the country has moved much further to the left) and Obama is more popular with democrats and able to command far greater resources than McGovern ever was.
And if it is a close race, the outcome will be disputed and America will be in big trouble. It is possible that both parties will disintegrate as a result of this. It is also possible that when the dust settles, we will have effectively a one party state — like the mid-1930s. And under the same ruling party.
I sincerely hope McCain and the Republican Effete are starting to get a glimmer of understanding regarding the racial nightmare that is being unleashed.
McCain’s little holier than thou plan didn’t work, and it angered the Republican base, so now he’s trying to backpedal.

I think McCain is simply avoiding any issue that can be taken as him attacking Obama on race.

I wish that McCain wasn’t voted above the candidate I wanted to win. I would love to see the nomination process changed. By the time it came to my state, it was already done.
What gives me some pleasure right now is the fact that the democrats are fighting between Obama and Hillary. This division between them is a gift to us. No matter what happens, this battle of theirs is good, and I’m glad to see it last as long as it is.
What gives me more displeasure, is the fact that some republicans are participating in this same situation of division - on us. McCain is going to be the nominee, and the same forces of division and infighting that is good when it happens to Obama and Hillary, is not good when it happens with McCain and everyone who hates McCain.
If you like this, if you keep this up, this has no other purpose than to help elect a President Obama. Keep that in your mind when you keep bashing McCain.
Sometimes the tipping point in elections in not from Republicans, not from Democrats, but the horrid section of America called ‘independents.’ these undecided voters can decide the outcome of the election.
Did anyone end up actually voting for Rudy? That campaign went through tens of millions of dollars and ended up with as many delegates as Hunter.

Answer: RNC and state GOP primary rules, plain and simple. In short left wing dems and moderates gave us McAmanesty.
Watch and see who the RNC is supporting and what their candidates are saying, in state elections, that will tell you a whole lot about what’s going on and where the party is headed.
Nov. 4th ‘08 is going to be a sad day in America.
All of us are formed and molded by our associations. Obama specifically chose Wright’s church. He was not forced to attend and, frankly, he was a large donor. There is an important difference between associations from work where you can’t really pick and chose who you work with and for — and a church that you attend voluntarily. Obama shares many of Wright’s ideas, and to think otherwise requires suspension of reason.
Ok, let me get this straight. McCain doesn’t like the Rev. Wright ad becuase he doesn’t think Obama shares the same views as Wright. He does however, like to attack Obama over the Bill Ayers connection. Does he believe that Obama shares the same views as Ayers? If so, why hasn’t McCain attacked Obama harder. I guess that’s what you get when you have to pick between 3 democrats. I would propose closed primaries next election cycle.

McCain continues to offend his conservative base with his attempts to make nice with the Democrats. All you have to do is take a hard look at Hillary vs Obama - as that is what is going to be coming down the track at you full force. If McCain had a brain and really listened to his advisors, he would shore up his base and stay away from trying to defend Obama against problems of Obama’s own making.
It’s pretty bad when your political opponent has to tell you what is relevant in a presidential election. McCain’s holier than thou act is wearing thin. Seems that the only reason to vote for this RINO will be future supreme court appointees.

I was a lot kinder and much less profane that the Kos Kids will be. My point is that McCain better find that intestinal fortitude that got him through captivity pretty soon and back it up with some integrity or he will be toast.
I’m still in shock that the GOP leadership worked so bloody hard to find a way to prevent me from voting against the Dims, even another Clinton - and worked so hard to offend so many Conservatives, that a few million of them may even vote for a Dim, this year.

McCain is liable to put Johnny Sutton and Fred Thompson on the Court - the Fred Thompson who claims PERJURY BEFORE A WORLD AUDIENCE is NOT an impeachable offense - who as a Watergate Prosecutor was chosen to head the committee to investigate the Clinton CHINESE GOVT DONATIONS to their campaign funds AND SUCCESSFULLY DIVERTED THE COMMITTEE to a skewering of GOP Politicians for minor infractions.
