Monday morning engine-starter: Jeremiah Wright, racial phrenologist
Good morning, people. I’ll be on Fox and Friends at around 8:15am to talk politics. Today’s engine-starter is The American Digest’s post on Jeremiah Wright’s racial brain theories.
Do you remember nutball racialist professor Leonard (Blacks are “sun people,” whites are “ice people.”) Jeffries?
Jeremiah Wright is the Leonard Jeffries of 2008.

Gerard Van der Leun roasts Wright:
“Different is not deficient.” It would seem there is a profound difference between the black brain and other brains after all. At least according to Reverend Wright. According to this shining exemplar of Barack Obama and the deep scholarship of black liberation theology, black people are right-brained and white people are left-brained. Asian people don’t make the discussion since that would be, well, unfortunate.
If you’re like me you’ve probably been wandering about the world babbling something about racial equality in America that affirms, “There are no differences except differences of degree between different degrees of difference and no difference.” You could also say, “All men are created equal.” How left-brained of you.
Now comes Reverend James Wright to set us all straight. He notes in passing that the right-brain of black people is somehow descended from the griots of Africa. The griots were people who could remember long, very long, poems; proto-rappers if you will. White people had something like that too, but then they invented … writing. Or was it the Asians? I forget since, alas, my griot genes are slim to none.
As I noted yesterday, Wright acted out the differences between black and white marching bands. Jake Tapper mentioned it parenthetically:
“Africans have a different meter, and Africans have a different tonality,” he said. Europeans have seven tones, Africans have five. White people clap differently than black people. “Africans and African-Americans are right-brained, subject-oriented in their learning style,” he said. “They have a different way of learning. And so on.
If he’s this comfortable mocking black/white differences in front of media cameras, I can only imagine what he says in private to his faithful black liberation ideology adherents.

Wright’s speech on black-right brainers, white-left brainers — replete with bogus stereotypes and crude voice imitations — was about as racist as they come and at one time antithetical to what the NAACP was once all about. Again, the Obama campaign and its appendages have set back racial relations a generation. Just ten years ago, any candidate, black or white, would have rejected Wright making a speech about genetic differences in respective black and white brains. Now it’s given to civil rights organizations by the possible next President’s pastor and spiritual advisor — and done to wild applause for an organization founded on the idea that we are innately the same, while being gushed over by ignorant “commentators.”
Blogger FutureMD calls Wright the new Rich Little and observes:
His negation that black people are not different (which, he suggests, is whitey short-hand for “deficient” — a topic he touched on in the Moyers interview), and then going into a long discourse on how genetically superior black people are, was just for starters.
It became too much for me when he did his John F. Kennedy impersonation (to call it mocking wouldn’t be amiss)…saying that no one criticised he and his brother, “Ed”, for having accents, but they do black kids.
I can’t believe anyone with an undamaged prefrontal cortex would suggest that poor grammar/syntax and regional accents are one and the same.
JFK asked not, not axed not…in fact, neither does Senator Obama and that’s why he’s successfully running for President.

I just watched Jeremiah Wright at the National Press Club. I can’t believe what I heard him say.
A guy who sat in this man’s audience for 20 years and who contributed big $ to his efforts cannot possibly be president of all Americans.
It’s not that I hate Barack Obama. Based on his chosen friends, I’m starting to think that he hates me.
Maybe because at this point she is irrelevant.

I used to think Obama wasnt that bad. Then we met his friends, and got to hear what he says behind closed doors.
I really want to ask Wright a couple of questions:
-So how were the Iliad and the Odyssey past down for generations?
-Have you heard about various Catholic orders during the Middle Ages in Europe? They also memorized the Bible and other religious texts.
-So only black kids remember words to rap songs? Does that mean my white friends who know those words are actually part black or something?
-Does me knowing the word to many country and classic rock songs count as the same thing? Or is that different?
-Is this all a big joke? Are we getting Punk’d?

For 15 years I lived as a minority in a community where whites were hated . Trust me when I say, it’s almost impossible to not hate someone back that hates you. Wright/Obama’s hatred will beget hatred back and I’m not looking forward to it.

Being a left-handed white woman (and everyone knows left-handed people are very right-brained), I’m really confused about where I fit into all of this. Does this mean that all black people are left-handed or are white women like me a fluke of nature? Follow up questions for Rev. Wright:
Since, as ably-evidenced by your logical arguments, you are a left-brain person, and are capable of objective learning, as witnessed by your multiple quotations of old studies, published no less in the white man’s language, should you then be considered as “un-black” as possible, and your lessons rejected by the black community in general?
Follow up again: Do you then consider yourself to be the “typical” product of the traditional “white” education system, or an “untypical” product?
Additional question:
If you mock Vice President Cheney for his lack of service in any of this nation’s military branches, would you equally mock a President Obama, should he win the nomination and be elected? Cor0llary One: Do you therefore hold President Bush (either) in higher regard due to their service?
Corollary Two: Do you hold Pres. Abraham Lincoln in equal distain due to his lack of military service?
Final question:
As a non-typical, left-brain, logical, African-American, do you feel somewhat entitled to the million plus dollar home being built for you in a mostly-Caucasian community? Do you feel that you’ve “transcended” your race and are superior to others of the same color, who are on welfare, lack college degrees, have no military service, and refuse to seek employment? Or, on the other hand, are they just “different”, opressed by the “white system” and in need of “change”?
If you want to discuss “race” there are those of us MORE than willing to pick up that challenge! I doubt you’d agree to meet us in any public forum. You need to pick better folks than those in the media to question you.

After watching Wright for a while, I came to the conclusion that he is mentally unstable. He lives in a world that has little or no connection to Christian principles or, for that matter, any reality that helps people better themselves and escape the victim status that liberal so love to exploit. Wright is so twisted by hatred that it is hard to believe that anyone could stick around to listen except others who need a weekly dose of hatred to make themselves feel good.
To assume that Barrack Obama is somehow immune from the associates he travels with requires that you suspend reason. Obama clearly chose his associates for his own reasons, and they are part of his personal development — even if he disowns those associates it still leaves the reasons in place to be explored and understood. Obama appears to be more and more a slick race hustler with great oratorical skills.
Not even then… I’ll lay odds on her being in a courtroom somewhere arguing before a Federal judge that the election process was corrupted by the Evilrightwingneonaziconservitives led by none other than Rush Limbaugh!

Well, it seems to me that Jesse Jackson and AL Sharpton are in trouble of losing their positions as un-elected, u-asked spokesmen for all Blacks in this country. Here is this obscure little racist, America-hating bigot who just several months ago, no one ever heard of and now, all of a sudden, thanks to those very things hey is the Key Note Speaker at the NAACP conference as well as making all these television, radio and personal appearances…being given far more credit and attention than he deserves.
The things he is saying…especially in this instance…is single-handedly putting al race issues back over 50 years at least.
Suddenly, all races and peoples are no longer equal. Now, we are being told just how different we truly all are. After 40 years of Political Correctness, of Inclusiveness and of Multi-Culturalism, we are now being told that “Hey…guess what…all races are fundamentally, genetically different and thus we must all treat each race as such”.
Well I, for one, wish they…those that speak for all these races…would have just one fricken convention, seminar, meeting or whatever it takes and come up with the final way that everyone is supposed to be, think and feel. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I hav given up on trying to keep up on what the proper way to treat people is according to the latest Pop-Culture.
I have always just treated people the same, regardless of race, color, creed etc. I, personally, have never treated anyone different based on their race, beliefs or anything else…just on whether or not they are decent human beings.
However, once again, it appears that we are about to, once again, be treated to a new set of rules, a new guideline and frankly…I just don’t care anymore.

Wright’s appearance today spoke volumes about Obama. Noting that Obama is a politician who will do and say what he needs to in order to get elected, Wright clearly portrayed Obama as someone whose core beliefs are in line with Wrights. Their “basement” conversations, according to Wright, revealing the true Barak Obama.

I got a strange feeling that Rev. Wright’s rantings may become the new liberal “pet rock”.

lgm is correct in that light has not been sped up or slowed down with in a vacuum. With our current understanding of how the universe works the speed of light is maximum in a vacuum. Within any UNIFORM material the speed of light is a certain speed. It is reduced in speed from its approximate value of c = 3X10^8 m/s in a vacuum by the index of refraction of the material. For example a typical crown glass has an index of refraction of ~ 1.5 so the speed of light in that glass = c/1.5 = 2 X 10^8 m/s. So as far as that argument goes lgm is correct.
But there are theories and some evidence that the speed of light has been slowing since the big bang of ~14 Billion years ago. So it appears the speed of light is not constant over time.
As for the conservation of energy, it is actually the conservation of mass/energy. They cannot be separated. At the sub-atomic level a positron and an electron collide and thier mass is converted completely into energy through the process whose formula is E=mc^2 (Never confuse the formula with the physics, the formula is a model of the physics) So the mass is destroyed and energy is produced. Contradicting the view of Conservation of Mass and Conservation of Energy being two separate phenomenon. It only appears that way at our macroscopic level.

No scientist accepts a view on face value and stops searching, no matter whose view it is or was. The evidence was there in the experiments that the classical theories did not work. As Richard Feynman once said in a lecture. “If it disagrees with experiment it is wrong. In that simple statement is the key to science. It doesn’t matter how how good the theory or what his name is, if it disagrees with experiment it is wrong.”
So Dr. Einstein could have made all the pronouncements he wanted but we would still have the transitor because true scientists do not accept someone’s view as the final answer no matter who he is. Stop getting your view of how science works from Al Gore.
You can say this though, at the beginning Einstein did bring up legitimate criticism of Quantum Mechanics and those criticism s led researchers to more finely tune their theories. This is how science works. All theories must be open to criticism and must prove themselves. In the end Einstein did not accept Quantum Mechanics, which is a shame since his explanation of the photo-electric theory is one of the cornerstones of early QM.

I’m confused about all this stuff about race. I have eight tones, I’m a blue eyed genetic mutant whitey, but right brained dominant. To top it all off, I’m sectoral heterochromatic. All this talk makes me feel weird, because I’m different. Are my civil rights being violated? Are there federal funds available for my condition or am I just TOO different?

Michelle, I saw your Fox and Friends segment and as always you did a great job. I’m a member of your choir. I could not believe Fox would explore Jeremiah Wright’s racial brain theories and sure enough they did not. That would have light that station up for a week. While I will not get into a debate about evolution itself since it is WAY outside my field of expertise, I will say that any and all legitimate competing theories need to be looked at and accepted or discarded as needed. About the nature of science: people learn science from other scientists. Scientists teach theories they think are correct or at least have a chance of being correct. That’s why biologists don’t teach intelligent design. If nobody thought quantum mechanics could be correct, nobody would have taught it and it would have been quickly forgotten. Einstein didn’t believe (some parts of) quantum mechanics. It’s luck for us that he was unable to convince other scientists (and not for lack of trying).

Jeremiah Wright also displays a garish desire to be hip, much like a mother who “parties” in order to hang out with and be liked by her daughter’s friends. Case in point: his “riding durrty” sermon regarding Clinton/Lewinsky and, just now, his smiling reference to the black “dozens” tradition of misogynistic rants against an opponent’s mother.
Both are unusual subcultural references for a “man of God” to be proudly referencing while administering to the spiritual needs of his flock.
In addition, Jeremiah Wright also maintains the “community activist” tradition of adorning the dashiki and selling one’s wares in the poorest of black communities and then “punching out” to return to their upscale white communities.
Other activists who have practiced this commute include Dr. Leonard Jeffries and Al Sharpton.

Ok you did not really read my post. It was the observation/experiments that showed that classical physics was wrong. If any scientist in the 30’s would have looked at the experiment and then listened to Einstein and others and stopped investigating and/or teaching the new science of QM because of a word from on high, then he should have been shown the door. Experiment/Observation convinces not the ability to argue the case.
The speed of light in a vacuum is not 1, the index of refraction of a vacuum is 1. It is really becoming obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about. If you were a math major in college you probably took 2 semesters or 3 quarters of physics maybe 4 quarters. Introductory physics that is. Which deals with the subjects at a very superficial level. The upper level classes are where the details and depth are at. That is why they are called survey courses. They are not meant to be complete or comprehensive on any one subject.

I did not argue “in a vacuum” was wrong. That is why I posted “no need” when prompted to “look it up”. I understand how light travels through a perfect vacuum (something man cannot achieve) until you talk about light in space (a vacuum). In the case of light in space, there is evidence of light at different speeds. The other point I made is that man can manipulate light. So, if man can manipulate light, imagine how the universe can manipulate light. The speed of light (for arguments sake) is a constant based on a mathematical computation. In space, it differs and in mans hands it differs.
My argument was to show his point is stoopid – which I did. For him to state things would not have been invented if Einstein had led people in his belief about quantum mechanics was reaching. I just took differing speeds of light to use as an example of how wrong his example was.
I should make my point more clear I guess so people will not get the impression lgm was right – on purpose.
The Obamessiah obviously hears 12 tones! I think sometimes all at once… Perhaps these “tones” prevented him from hearing a single one of Rev. Wright’s sermons over twenty years? I should certainly think just hearing one sermon would be all it would take!
Rev. Wright is correct about one thing; he’s sure not politicking for anyone! He’s in this for the money and clearly understands the benefit of FREEEEEEEEE National Publicity! CNN obviously does too or they would have never had him on. Since they did, and everyone will be talking about “what was said on CNN”, they receive the benefit of the exposure. Always follow the money…

The number we give for the speed of light depends on what units of time and length are used. It is possible to choose units so that c=1. Given that c is a fundamental constant, this is what people usually do.

That would not be c that would be a ratio set up so you can instantly see the relative speeds and that is called n the index of refraction. n = 1.5 would mean a speed of light in the susbstance that is 1.5 time slower than the speed of light in a vacuum. Good try A for effort F for actually knowing what you are talking about.
Since scientists world wide, use SI units why would any of them use strange units that would make c = 1? SI units for speed are m/s or cm/s.

You can never prove a scientific theory right you can only prove it wrong and appealing to a higher authority cannot change that. Einstein was wrong, other physicists new it from observation and there was no way they would be dissuaded because an eminent scientist said so. He would not and could not persuade them the evidence was there.

I’ve just listened to Brit Hume doing a segment with Megyn Kelly about the Jeremiah Wright situation. Brit spent his entire five minutes either bending over backwards to be fair to “Rev.” Wright or bending over backwards to acknowledge that Obama probably does not believe the things that Wright has been saying.
I used to hold Brit Hume out as a huge hero for having been a star MSM reporter who broke with the leftist slant and gave huge credibility to FOX and conservatism in general. And I am sure that most people here still hold that opinion. But what has he done for us lately?
It is not just because I deplore O’Reilly and Sheppard and Geraldo that the FOX star has dimmed for me. The network is just like McCain, abandoning its core fanbase and trying to broaden the franchise. And there is no way that I can exclude Special Report from this critique. The “Beltway Boys” are deplorable. And what happened to John Gibson? When Gibson — a strong conservative voice — had the 5 p.m. hour, Hume never pumped the show by appearing for segments. I don’t believe that Brit — the 800 lb gorilla in FOX political coverage — does not have a heavy hand in the general drift of things over there.
Forgive me, this is a Jeremiah Wright thread. Maybe I should have left it with simply: After the spectacle of Wright’s appearance before the press assn., Brit Hume is busy on FOX apologizing for Wright AND and downplaying the substantive significance of his relationship with Obama.
